After the latest MF1 update from Verizon, my phone will not connect to 4G LTE network. I am not rooted, and wondered if there is something I can do without rooting to fix the problem. I do have the app "phone info" and had it set to CDMA (auto prl) so the phone would quit searching for a 4g signal constantly as I'm not in a very large 4g area and use only when needed. I was wondering if maybe when it updated, it saved that as a "default setting" and if so, is there a fix?
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Chris

I am in a fringe 4g area where I don't have a really good signal, so I want to force to 3g but the option for preferred networks is grayed out. Anyone else have this problem?

I was able to install LTE onOff from the market, but I should be able to do it in the system settings.
Go to the Dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* and then go to Phone Information. In the lower half of that screen you'll get every network option you could ask for. Go "CDMA Only" for 2G data only and choose "CDMA Auto (PRL)" for 3G
Thanks for that, buy we used to be able to switch between 3g/cdma and LTE in the settings menu. I am just trying to figure out if it is an unfinished part of the leak or something permanent of ics.
My phone is always in 3G mode (AT&T Unlocked) , the 4G mode is always on...any way to toggle 2G and 3G modes? How to disable 4G, there's no 4G in my area

I don't know how an unlocked phone works but I'd say download Phone Info from the market, open it, go to phone information, and set it to WCDMA Only for 3G, GSM Only for 2G, and LTE Only for 4G. Assuming you're on jellybean that is. If you're on ICS then search in either general or Q&A in the Atrix HD forums for a thread called build.prop and do the steps there.

I did exactly that before you replied. Works fine, saves battery. Thanks mate

Hi
If possible can you pls help me on this as I'm also facing the same issue with this device the method mentioned above doesnt seem to work on mine.
Thanks
Add APN or use app "Network"
I also wanted to shift to gsm network only to save battery.
I installed a app named "Network" by "Philipp Magelow" and changed the mode to "GSM Only" and later added a APN(which was not added by default)
Now I could access Edge data, which is sufficient for daily apps.

My problem is different: I live in los Angeles. I have very strong lte signal around my house. And I know that the tower in my neighborhood is done. However, I just can not connect to lte. When i toggle the airplane mode, the lte signal shows up, then disappear in s second. It seems that the network does not like my phone. The weird part is the the phone worked with lte only at one And only one sprint store. I already updated prl, profile, and check the SIM card. The problem stayed. Please help.
Go to settings>mobile data>network mode and make sure its lte/cdma and not just cdma

I'm looking for a method that will allow me to manually select what sort of mobile internet to use (LTE, HSPA+, EDGE).
This is for two reasons mainly:
1)Better battery life on 3G vs LTE
2)With a data cap I'd rather have lower speeds where I can control data usage better
3)All 4.2 ROMS do not show the mobile signal strength indicator on LTE but does show up for HSPA+ etc
I have tried several methods shown in various forums but to no avail. Also even unselecting 'automatic' and manually registering 3G under 'network operators' does not seem to fix this.
I am using T-Mobile in an LTE area.
Thanks

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and you can choose network options.... If you are on stock att or bell it will not work and you should download an app called network which also does the same...

thanks will try it out.
Also, *#*#4636#*#* works on Mexican Retail (confirmed). And this fixes the problem for network signal indicator (not for LTE though)

I have tried but everytime I click on lte or any other network it automatically flips right back to WCDMA.
I recently got a sim unlocked gs4active (i537). I rooted the device and used app quarantine to quarantine the files so that I can create a hotspot using my 4g signal. that process worked well. however since I got the fone I am unable to use any internet apps (eg google play fb twitter ) using my 4g signal. when using wifi these apps works as it should, however when using my 4g signal I always get the no connection error message. it should be noted that when using 4g signal I am able to use wats app and viber to chat but I cant send/ receive any sort of media (eg photos and music). can some lend some assistance on whats wrong here
Are you sure your apn's settings are ok? Are you talking about using a 4g lte network or a 3g network? I'm probably in the same situation as you since I have a sim unlocked sgh i537 and I'm using hspa with any issues.

Have you tried the obvious? Unquarantine those files and see if it works then - that way we'll know what end to start trouble-shooting in.
Good luck!

I was experiencing this problem before I quarantine the tethering provision file so I highly doubt quarantining this file was the cause of this problem
just to be sure I just tried un quarantining the file to see if it works ...... and it doesnt
try this :
go to settings- more networks- mobile networks- Access Point Names- then hit menu , then- reset to default.
and make sure your Mobile Data on phone is enabled.
wow!!! this works!!
thanks a lot ... now I have a perfectly working s4 active
