[Q] Google Music cache on SD Card using directory bind - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'd love to buy this phone, but first I need to be sure I can keep offline songs from Google Music on the SD using a direct bind or a SimLink.
Can I get the feedback of a few users here?
Thx.

adding new music

When I add new music to my sdcard via PC or downloading through the browser it doesn't show up in the stock music app.
I can open the file directly through a file explorer or browser download screen and it will play but it will have no options eg: no repeat or add to playlist
Has anyone come across this? Once I restart the phone it will show up correctly.
I noticed there is a media scanner in spare parts or dev tools but it doesn't help.
mine shows up pretty quick, where do you put the music onthe sd card and how do you dismount the sd card?
Had that problem too, a long time ago. Probably even before I got my Nexus and used a Galaxy Spica. What I did was download songs to my SD card over the network using ES File Explorer. I think Android doesn't really monitor the SD card, all it does is scan when the SD card is mounted. This way, if you use USB to transfer media from your PC, and then disconnect it, it gets mounted again, and the media scanner will run and find the new files. Any other way is probably broken... maybe you can trigger a scan by unmounting and remounting the SD card (from the settings menu)...
I remember there being an application on the market, sdcard rescan or something that did that.
yup, thats normal, if you copy music to the sd through an application. android does not monitor the filesystem for new music files and only scans on mount (which happens on bootup).
but yeah ther was an app for that. does anybody have the name?

perfect.
thanks for the mount tips too. makes sense.
or if your rom comes with "Dev Tools" just open media scanner.
Good one, forgot about that.

Make the music app refresh???

What's up XDA. I sometimes download music to my N1 directly, but I've found that by doing it this way the music app takes forever to refresh and recognize the new music. (Even though the new files are stored in the 'music' folder) Is there a way to force a refresh in the stock music app?
FYI running Paul's stock rooted version of FRF83
I download music on mine too, the best way I figured out to do is just unmount your SD card and remount it.

Thanks that did it.
Or in spare parts you can do a media refresh. It is also in the SwitchPro Widget.

[Q] Spotify storage.

I can't get Spotify to use the external microSD 16GB card to store my offline music. I've been in contact with Spotify's support and they told me that the app automatically selects the largest storage unit by default. Still after factory resets and re-formating of the microSD card Spotify still stores everything on the internal SD card for some reason.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!
Hi.
I had the same problem and spent ages searching for an answer until I found this link on the spotify forum.
All you need to do is uninstall Spotify download the version from the link below, install it, then sync. It works!!

MicroSD

Hi there,
Are there any "app2sd" type of apps that is actually working with the Xoom / HC3.2 ? In fact, are there any apps that are working with Xoom / HC3.2 yet ?
I mean... what is it good for ? Storing documents and media files ?
Sorry for the stupid question... I just canĀ“t see this 32GB MicroSD sitting there empty...
If your Xoom can read external SDcard, you can store anything on our sdcard, except games/applications data cannot store on sdcard.

Double image & cant play music

I have searched the threads multiple times and always got only temporary answers.
I have had ppl tell me to CLEAR DATA under the apps --> Media storage.
It looks good after immediate bootup, but after 1 hr everything is now double or even triple.
Also the music files play only within a 30 minute timeframe, after that it only says "Can't play the track you requested"
Can anyone give me a permanent solution to this problem??
I am presently using ICS Stunner 1.4.26.1
Are you using the stock player? I've had this problem myself and i noticed that some temporary files were saved on my internal storage (with the music on my external). After i set my music folder as the default music folder it stopped duplicating everything. I haven't bothered to look for the duplicates, so i'm not sure where they're hiding at.
Using PlayerPro.

make sure that the mount points in kernel are correct. Do you have your camera pics saved in internal or external storage?

Yeah i really need help with this as well.
Any chance you are on speedmod? I had this problem as well. I think it's because in speedmod internal and external SD are switched.
