[Q] Problem Rooting Razr I XT890 4.1.2 JB. Unlocked Bootloader - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, im fairly new to this site. I have used it before to help root my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro and wasnt a member at the time.
I have recently purchased a Motorola Razr I XT890 that was already installed with JB 4.1.2. I was questioning whether to root the device or not as i already have one rooted device. I finally came to the conclusion of rooting and followed TheRazrGuy's method which can be found on youtube (im technically a new user so i can not post outside link : / )
I then proceeded to watch the next video by the same YouTube user (TheRazrGuy) and came across a problem. I can get as far as 6.30 in the video titled 'How To Root Any Motorola Razr Running Android 4.1.2 (Official)' and cant get any further. When going into the stock file manager, i have no option of 'Remote Storage' and am unable to find the option elsewhere on the phone.
My USB Debugging is on and the Phone is connected to both the computer and the Wi-Fi and is in the correct mode (MTP?, cant remember exactly)
I know the video mentions that it is for different models but the title of the video states ANY Motorola Razr.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also much thanks to TheRazrGuy, i think he is somewhere on the forums XD

root for FRG22D

Hey guys,
Trying to help a buddy at work unlock his driod1 - he updated to FFRG22D - now any of the single click root methods do not work..
My phone is a nexus1 and did not have these issues: As I am not a Droid owner / user I am hoping people in the forums here help to get him rooted.
I would like to get him on to ClockWork - so we can flash CM6 on his droid.
Can someone point me to a good guide to rooting this?
Cheers,
hey if he is OTA FRG22D can you please post his build.prop file for me to take a look at, it can be found under /system on phone memory, i am working out a market fix for rooted frg01b users like my self, i wont update until after frg22d is rooted for real but i can spoof the version and fingerprint if i have that file contents
i found what i was looking for after a while, thanks.

Have you had any luck? My buddy had his phone replaced and the new one has this update, but he would like me to root it again for him.
can you not just download the old froyo, put it in the sd as update.zip, flash that then root?
FRG22D hotspot app
I have the OTA FRG22D stock unrooted. In-order to root it, I used the following procedure, from droidforums:
"Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version". After installing the custom recovery:
"MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.sbf", I was then successful installing a wifi hotspot app

The one click root apps do not work with FRG22D. The exploit those apps used was patched with this release.
The FRG01B & FRG22B stock/odex/deodex only work for devices that are already rooted. Meaning that if you do manage to imstall them you will not have root.
You need to do a *sbf* back to 2.1 or2.01.

I'm new to the Droid 1 I came from the Eris and it is easy!!!!
Okay so I did it with out even having internet on my pc or Linux laptop which thank god I finally got internet today!!!! Use the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin method... Super easy I actually downloaded using my D1 transfered file from my phone to Linux laptop and changed the Windows commands to Linux commands and it worked and then I went in to market and flashed Clockwork!!!! Oh and yes I'm on FRG22D the phone came as a replacement for my Eris and it already had this build on it... PM me if you have any questions...
hi all,
i just get used moto droid, i check the firmware seems already using FRG22D
how to check wheter my phone has been rooted or not ?
thanks before
Try using a root required free app from the market and if you are root it will work if your not it wont... Easy as that!!!!

It doesn't.
The method that RodNoc_eR just mentioned above just worked for me. Here's the link again: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
for those of you who are doing this the complicated way, THERE IS a ONE-CLICK METHOD, since I cant post links, Google SuperOneClick, download and find instructions, its pretty much as easy as downloading the .zip, extracting it to where ever you want, right click on SuperOneClick application and Run as Administrator, make sure USB debugging is checked, DO NOT mount as USB storage device, click root button on the program, let it do its thing, and wa-la!
You have acheived root! Be sure to download the Custom Recovery of your choice, which is as easy as DLing Rom Manager from the Market and flashing ClockworkMod, I just did this and am now happy I spent time searching and not typing commands into the SDK, super easy and it works for the DROID 1 FRG22d, I just did it.
Enjoy!

You can flash a stock fxz through RSD lite. From there you can update. If you want root still, you will need to root again on ICS and then use OTA Root keeper to save root when you upgrade to JB. Root access isn't holding your phone back from getting updated, it won't update because the previous owner deleted system files.

Thank You ... I did find RSD Lite 5.7 MAC and have it installed ... now what ?
++ I think RSDLite is Windows-only? Duuuh ... can this even be done on a Mac ? ++
I assume I must find the stock ICS Rom for the Atrix HD, download it and somehow point RSD lite at it ???
Are there instructions ??? I am pretty good at following those instructions if someone can point me to them ???

[Root]Root your XT925/XT926 running Jelly Bean

[INSERT TYPICAL DISCLAIMER] I will not, can not, and shall not be held responsible for acts of durr. These instructions are fairly easy to follow and involve a little bit of android adb knowledge and a few fastboot commands. If you can not grasp them in about 30s reading, please, pay someone to perform this task for you and do NOT risk bricking your phone. Your warranty is now void, and all damage can, and may, be permanent. Thank you.
So, after fiddling around with trying to get the downgrade to ICS working, then rooting, then saving it up to JB, I said screw it and tried the method used on samsungs and it works. Lovely.
EASY TOO!
All you need, is...
1) Unlocked bootloader. If you don't have this, and aren't willing to have this, leave now.
2a) epinter's CWM recovery -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973904
2b) CWM / TWRP for the XT926 developer edition
3) Chainfire's SuperSU (Donate to this guy, he does a **** ton for the android community! ) -- http://download.chainfire.eu/298/SuperSU/
The process is SIMPLE.
Follow epinter's fastboot directions for installing cwm on your XT925 or the instructions for CWM/TWRP for the xt926 (Haven't tested, only have a 925) and from there, install the SuperSU package from your SD Card. Reboot, test, done.
As of time of writing, the current and 100% functional version of SuperSU is v0.99, I can not guarantee earlier version will work, however I assume that later ones will.
Thanks works great.

Xt926 cannot be unlocked unless you have the developer edition. Also there is a CWM and TWRP recovery for us (xt926 developer) so I would fast boot flash that instead of the one for XT925. Otherwise, awesome thread.

Let me clarify
The root package will work on ANY phone running jelly bean.
The trick is getting CWM/TWRP/Any insecure recovery installed first.
If you can flash .zip's you can install this root method.
I've updated the post since the xt926 is different, and I was tired and lazy before.

Right. There is no root for jellybean on the non dev. The utility returns you to ICS then you root and protect root through the OTA.

So, just to clarify what these steps actually do (I like to understand the reasons why things have to be done to make them work);
1) Bootloader unlocked: This allows you to install the Clockwork Mod
2a & b) Install Clockwork Mod: This installs an appropriate Clockwork Mod image file that epinter has created for this model phone. We then use the AP Fastboot option when rebooting (by holding down that horrific combo of volume and power buttons) to fire this up.
3) Because we're now using a slightly modified...ermm...image?...whatever, it lets us run the SuperSU package directly from our SD card, allowing it to get its' initial root access and we then use the SuperSU app to grant superuser rights as we fire up each app as per a normal root.
Sound right, or have I totally misunderstood things? I'd love to go ahead and do this (I'm in Australia with a XT925, so although I've not yet unlocked it, I can), but I use my phone for work, so I can't really screw it up. I did have root on ICS and loved it, but unfortunately, I didn't know you had to protect root before accepting the JB OTA update, so I lost it then (but still have things like Superuser installed).

Ok I got that. XT926 here. But all the directions I'm reading say that you need root to install CWM, because you need to rename a system file. So if I'm trying to get root through these steps, which requires root to install CWM...??? What am I missing...
I tried installing TWRP, but I get the same screen as CWM when trying to get into recovery (open android with ! symbol)
With twrp you don't need to rename anything. I have it installed. Fastboot flash it, press volume down + power for 10 seconds to simulate a battery pull, then quickly before it reboot press the Volume up + volume down + power combo to pull up the menu, then enter recovery. The trick is to not let it reboot after flashing twrp the first time. Once in twrp make a backup and it will overwrite the stock recovery. (This is all for the dev edition XT926.)

Alright, thanks! I got it now with TWRP. Looks like I kept missing that crucial "prevent bootup" step.
I am curious though, how this would work for someone (with the dev edition) who wants to keep CWM since it does not auto-rename the stock recovery? If I'm not mistaken the process would go like this:
1) fastboot flash CWM
2) reboot into CWM before phone boots up
3) use CWM to flash SU package, obtaining root
4) boot up phone, which causes CWM to be overwritten
5) now with working root, rename stock recovery using file explorer app
6) repeat step 1, and boot up phone keeping CWM since the stock is renamed
Wow that was simple.....many thanks man

[Q] Galaxy tab P1000 root-flash process

Hi,
I'd like to install CM to my tab. I've read its quite complicated, and you can brick your device quite fast. Could anyone provide a detailed and relatively safe solution to upgrade from 2.2(!)?
Do I need to root first, and install cwm?
Thanks a lot!
Theoretically you don't need root, only need cwm.
But for 2.2, many has locked bootloader that prevents flashing non samsung signed stuff.
So you need to root to then check the bootloader if it is locked. If locked, then apply a patch. That is why root is needed.

Hi,
Here is what I did:
I was on Froyo too (P1000BVJJ2, Orange France).
I rooted the Tab with z4root with no problem
Then checked if bootlooder was locked with SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00.apk (from Chainfire): it was unlocked
Then flashed Overcome 4.1 (follow the guide)
Then flashed AOKP SGT7 JB-MR1 (from Stimpz0r)
Then flashed CM11 (from terenceng)
No problem at all. You can follow my steps, but don't blame me if it does not work for you !
