It was a simple 4' drop to tile.
Part of me is surprised it took so much damage, part of me is surprised it's taken this long. There have been some quite impressive drops this phone has survived.

Yeah they've pretty much proven 4 feet straight drop on the screen will break any smartphone screen. I was thinking about this the other day, my glasses aren't made of glass, they are polycarbonate with a polyurethane scratch resistant coating. Wouldn't that make more sense for phone screens than glass? There's a common misconception that gorilla glass makes a difference, nope it protects against scratches, not falls.
Not to mention the odd design choice of tampered glass as opposed to having polycarbonate surround the glass so it absorbs impacts. Google literally made the world's most fragile phone with this thing

It's been dropped from that height more times than I can count. I think my back wasn't level, because if you placed it on a flat surface you could watch it slide itself off.
It also survived being thrown at a wall (headphones + coworker = bad time). This one hit just right it seems.

You can probably send the email to Product Support (that being an official Samsung Product). There's even a LiveTalk option.

Let us know what they tell you.
Well I talked to them on live support thought i was getting somewhere and then got a message please call 18007570280 for accessory support. I'll call in a bit. But I can't believe it got this bad in only five days

The LG Nexus 4 has something special that we haven’t seen on other Android smartphones in a while now – great build quality.
New LG Nexus 4 sports a new rear case?
Ever since it was released, we’ve praised the pure Google phone for its exceptional build quality and styling that even rivals the likes of the iPhone 5. However we did have some complaints about rear glass that seem to be more fragile than we hoped.
Well there may be some bad news today disguised as something good. We’ve been informed by many readers who recently received their LG Nexus 4 that the smartphone looks a little different than what we saw last month. Supposedly, LG may have modified the rear crystal glass case of the Nexus 4 to make it less susceptible to cracking.
On a sad note, the LG Nexus 4 now doesn’t seem to glitter like the earlier batch. No matter what angle you hold it at or lighting conditions. it seems to have lost the glitter effect.
At this time this remains unconfirmed but give that we’ve had a dozen readers complain to us about their findings already, there may be something different about the newest batch ship from the Google Play Store.
We’ve contacted LG about this and will update this story once we get a reply on what is possibly a new LG Nexus 4.

I'm sure we'll get 3rd party back replacements. But still, this would suck huge monkey balls. I love the glass back.
excellent news. instead of a sparkly fragile discoball glass back we can have a sleek, plain black, more solid glass back
win-win in my book
I actually liked their original idea with the glittery back. But oh well if they did the back side more cracking safe then it should be OK.
if that makes them produce more quickly and fix the glitches then am for it
I ordered mine when they still had the glittery back, it looks very nice but I'd rather have a durable backing to my device.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
the glitter may seem nice but in my situation i will never see it with this phone case,
i dont care what the back looks like since i dont look at it when in use
would rather a tougher back so it won't look bad when its all scratched but shinny disco ball it is.
How does removing the glittery pattern make the glass more durable on the back? If I recall, the pattern is under the glass. So if they just removed what was under the glass, isn't it still the same glass?
Btw, if anyone has gotten one without the design, Id like to see some pics please. Just curious, want more than the one in the OP

No space in between the back and the glass. So I presume that the plastic can sit flushed against the back glass pane to provide more strength?
I placed my order about a month ago and should hopefully get it in the next few weeks.
From the devices I have seen, personally, I love the original back and would almost rather not have one if it did not have the back.
Call me crazy but from the first time I saw it, I wanted nothing more than to have the phone in a bumper case and show it off with pride.
I guess I will just wait to see what style of back others get that ordered the same time I did and decide if I want to sell it.

I know this is HTC One forum, but I had an HTC Evo 4g and within about 2 weeks I noticed cracks in the band. What eventually happened is it cracked near my volume button and actually separated one day when I pulled my phone out of my pocket. Had to use black electrical tape ever since. It's nothing more than a ROM flashing gadget and game console for my niece now. Google htc case crack, and you'll see a lot of hits. Pretty common thing with HTC.

It's kept in a case in the inside pocket of my jacket. This thing is being cared for like a new born child. There was a slight imperfection around the volume rocker that I noticed when I received it. That's very dissappointing then. I really am confused how it cracked like that. Even the lowest of quality plastics don't just go crack up without any reason. It's like...
lol!
These fractures are typical result of bending. I suppose the plastic element got bent before it was assembled and passed the QC unnoticed.
I've checked mine which I have had for 9 days and no cracks whatsoever. I do have the small gap problem at both the top and bottom of the phone but it is very small and I am not going to switch it since so many people have it and I will probably just end up with another device with the same problem. The gap doesn't bother me that much anyway.

mine feels kinda loose on all the corners except the bottem left, but its not like a loose where the case is going to fall off or anything its like there is a tiny bit of play. i've noticed that trying to take this case off is kind of difficult but not extremly hard it's just weird, all in all a good slim case i think, only had it on for about 12 hours thou

feels a little better than the phone itself, i can't say anything about the other colors because i have the black one and it feels good on the phone. there are no lips around the screen so i wouldn't recommend setting the phone on the screen part as the screen will be touching the surface
My clear came in today. It def makes the phone easier to hold. The clear scratches very easily (in fact I think it came with light scratches) but I expected that from reading the reviews. I like it because its really thin and doesn't add that much bulk.
I picked this up but haven't put it on yet. Kinda worried about it scratching the phone with its rough edges...anyone put on and take off the case multiple times yet? Any scratching of the side bezels or back on the phone?

I put mine on and took it off a bunch of times. I don't think I like the case at all. I doubt it will protect the phone at all during a drop. About the only thing it will do is protect the back from scratches which i'm not that worried about.

Go check around the bezel of your note 4. Fractures galore. I'm not talking about the fine scratches around the chrome area but the white or black frame bezel area to be precise. Two particular area of interest are on top near the IR blaster and also below next to the S Pen. Each fracture area is symmetrical in shape and pattern. Seems to be a flaw with the antenna region that flows under the bezel.
Edit.. Infact all four areas of the bezel which have the gap in chrome finish for aerial posses this marking on the frame bezel area.

Just went over mine meticulously and am happy to say I dont have any cracks or marks on the black frame. Theres definately very small fine scratches on the silver edge but it is almost unnoticeable thanks to Otterbox Commuter.
No scratches, a mere rectangular shaped fracture on each area next to the 4 chrome gap area on the bezel. Glad yours is okay.. I doubt mine is an isolated incident. Also worth noting my loop has a built in led.

Some nicks but no cracks. No scratches on the screen and it landed on its face. GG 4 is amazing.
I keep wondering of samsung gets all the materials from the same place. But then I decided that some people are just brutal on their phones.
Heres some pics each corner where the aerial is looks likes this.

uuh.. no. not at all.
no chance of microscopic scratches on a decorative metal band resulting in structural failure of the band.
the microscopic gaps are there for the antenna not because you chipped chunks off your metal band.

i think it is not normally visible using a normal look at it. and i think it is the antenna.. sorry for saying this but if you want a perfect phone then why not make and design one ?
