Hello everybody,
I have to write a letter of reference for me in the name of my professor.
Sadly I am not sure if it's grammatically correct and if the sentences are understandable at all.
It would be really great if you guys could help me out by correcting it a little bit.
Thanks in advance
This is a personal recommendation for *****.
My name is Prof. Dr.-Ing. *****. I’m the head of the Institute of concrete structures and structural engineering at the University of Technology ***** (Technische Universität *****).
I know ***** as a student of civil engineering. He started his studies on April 1, 2010.
***** is a very purposeful person. He is kind and polite on every occasion. Teamwork as well as working on his own are tasks that he can fulfill reliably as he has proven with different papers.
He has successfully managed to pass the syllabus of 8 semester within 7 semester and thus outstripped other students of his field. He has always shown a high level of motivation and has fulfilled his duties to the satisfactory of the faculty.
The internship at ***** suits his studies very well as he is majoring in statics and structural engineering. I highly recommend ***** for an international internship in the United States.

It's still clear that English is not your first language, but I'd prefer to see that and appreciate the effort made. It sounds like a glowing reference to me
"managed to pass" seems like you barely passed. It's better to change it to just passed.
Other than what archer said above, I don't see any major problems.

I asked him to write me a letter of recommendation. He said I should set up a letter in his name as he didn't know what to write. He will now take a look at it and hopefully sign it.

One of my teachers asked me to do the same when I asked for a letter of recommendation for college.
I have also written my own letter of recommendations in the form of Experience letters. Since I don't want to bother HR manager I write the letter and put sign also...

We are a group of physiotherapists that have been forced to do a survey about junk-food and peoples thoughts about it, please take your time to answer these questions.
Why aren't we investing in long-term solutions such as improving the quality / nutritional value of the soil?
Why do you think fast food has become so widespread, despite the poor quality?
Why are people still "uninformed" about food, although knowledge is available?
Why do scare campagns do poorly in your country. if they do ?
Do you think that people who drink alcohol or smoke should have to pay for treatment of diseases related to lifestyle, and why?
what country are you from?
Thanks in advance.

Baaaahahahahahahahaha...wait, what's next? oh yeah...hahahahaha Priceless
i think i will learn more english than phone knowledge.
my mobile is meizu m9 and i cant find much of it.
reading books and novels taught me good English
The best thing I know to do is to start asking questions and never stop.
Sadly, too many of us here in the U.S. don't care and don't take pride in being able to write properly.
I know I'm new here (in fact I'm *brand new* as of today) but if you have questions, I'm certain there's others on here like me who can help.
Remember: we learn by doing.
I learned English at a strip joint.
Assuming you're in China, get a girlfriend who can't speak Chinese.
Join more activities with people from different countries.
I'm not a proponent of the "immersive" approach to language education, tbh. I don't believe it really works all that well, and I do believe it is an extremely resource-intensive, inefficient approach.
But then again, that's just me talking.
I just got rosetta stone for arabic. The pronunciation is killing me. Can't vouch for it though, just started it.
Cable television helped a lot with my english, back when I was in school (20 years ago)

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I'm saving up for a backpacking trip to the Middle East. That is is some beautiful land and culture yall have out there. Just so much untouched land. I've backpacked around America, but never been outside the US.
EDIT There is one thing that you can help me with. Besides Al Jazerra, what other news sites would be good to watch/read to learn more. Also, do you know of a good way to learn the alphabet and writing? Thanks.

best advice is to hang out with people who speak the language you want to learn, Then ,read out load every day that language (gets your mouth used to saying the words). That was the biggest help for me

Immersion is pretty well proven to be the fastest way to learn a language actually. I studied Spanish for 5 years in high school and college and learned more Japanese in the first six months I lived in Japan without studying for one minute than I learned in 5 years of Spanish classes.

Here's my question on that point: Do you attribute immersion itself, or that by living in Japan you had a credible "need to know" as opposed to a merely arbitrary academic requirement and/or interest when you were still in school?

I agree, I think that is the point of immersion - that you are forced to find ways to communicate in the native language. The best advice I ever got about learning Japanese in Japan was from a fellow American - he saw me keep looking in my English to Japanese dictionary and told me to throw that thing away and get a Japanese to English one. Instead of looking up words in English and then trying to say the Japanese word I saw there, I would listen to the Japanese speaker telling me something, look up the word IN JAPANESE and then find the meaning on my own in English.
Using the words I learned in an authentic context day after day was the only way I learned to use them naturally.

Well, just like Btros said, he took Hebrew in school and can't function at all in it. The difference is that when you take a language in school, unless you actually have a personal passion for learning another language, or that language in particular, you don't really have a need-to-know and so you don't really learn it.

I suppose one could stumble through this sort of process, but it just seems like a very painful one. For one, how can you look up words in a language you don't know? I mean, if I were listening to a Japanese speaker, I'd have enough of a time trying to hear the individual words, let alone ever attempting to reconstruct their spelling and, from there, look up the meaning of the word.
Without at least some formal instruction, how can someone actually know what they're listening to? It's not like any of us native speakers speak. like. this. when. talking. to. other. people. in. the. real. world. and yet, without conversations being had in that manner. we native speakers speaklikethiswhentalkingtootherpeopleintherealworld and that is basically impossible, aurally, to pick apart when you don't have vocabulary.

Like the title states... I'm pre-enlisting into the Marine Corps next summer, and I've recently gotten into XDA. I figured I'd try to find anyone else on this Forum in/joining the Military.
I almost signed up to the British Army when i was 16 and have always regretted not following through with it. In my work i have a lot of colleagues who are ex-military and they're all great guys. Every one of them deserve the utmost respect for serving their country.
If it's what you want to do, don't let anything stand in your way! Keep us updated with your news and hopefully in future you can tell us stories about your Boot-Camp and Tours of duty!
I'm also in the process of joining the USMC. I'm just waiting for my backround check to come in but its been two months already .. I think its because I had to put in a waiver but hopefully my waivers go thru ..

When the military are used to police the civilians in their own country you know that something is wrong! Any soldier that raises a weapon to one of their own deserves everything that IS coming to them!
Good luck my friend. The people will always triumph in the end, be patient!
I deeply believe in Karma. Not as some supernatural, occult force...just that everyone has everything that's coming to them! Live your life as a good person and good things will come your way. Live your life as an evil bastard and that's how your life will end.
Live by the sword, die by the sword. What goes around, comes around. Pick your metaphor! The good will out...

There's no politicaling going on around here! So how's everyone finding their HTC, Widows Mobile phone anyway.....?
Edit: It's a shame that there have to be divisions, borders, territory, politics in real life. We are all one race and we all share the same planet. XDA is my favourite site because the things that bring us together knows no boundaries. I now have friends all over the world, all good people, and like the other 99% of the worlds population we all want the same thing! A long and fruitful life and good health for ourselves, our friends and our families.
In a forum of 4 million members i would say that XDA OT is the place to come to find friendship, understanding, respect, fun, sadness, joy, and laughter. We have member aged from 14 years to 60 years, from every walk of life, from every nation. We don't fight, we don't hate...we laugh, we share sorrow and we spread happiness. I would be a lesser person if not for the people i surround myself with here. I learn with these people, i share with these people...these people are my family!*
*The mods are especially awesome!
I was born in the military. My mom was in the Army and had me right before her Unit was deployed to Grenada or Panama or some place back then. She had the choice of signing me over to the custody of the US or get out of the military. My mom was born in the military, too. On one of the Naval bases in Hawaii. My grandpa was in the Marines. I got accepted in high school but backed out when a mess of things happened and none of my family wanted me to enlist, but rather go in after collage. Got rejected when I was 23 for enlistment and again when I was 25. Too much trouble making when I was a kid. Maybe we'll get in another world war and open the draft again. I'll join then, they won't reject me then.

Quite the opposite, i reckon they're still not used enough. Of course it's become easier to do online but people are still reserved and reticent to be polite to strangers. Natural reaction i guess. Perhaps the fact that people are being polite online may carry over to real life eventually?
Personally i've always found myself being awkward in real life social situations and heartfelt stuff just makes it worse. Gotta be drunk for that stuff! No such problem saying Thanks, please, sorry etc on here though.
I don't think the mods will like that. A "thank you" is a thing you'll have to deserve.
I will however 'Thank' any currently serving, or previously serving, member of any of the Armed Services on principal.

"Daughter of mine, you're going to bed soon so turn off that computer and go brush your teeth".
"No daddy, we don't go to bed at this time and i will play this some more, and then i will watch television for a while...", in the sweetest voice imaginable, as if she's explaining the way things are to a total idiot.

Okay, humor is a great way to make an entrance, so I will post a short story I wrote. Loving the forum so far, and have learned so much!
Anyway, before getting the Galaxy S3, I talked it over with my iPhone and Siri, and they said it was okay if I brought someone new into the household and relationship. Anyway, I brought the Galaxy S3 home to meet the "gang".
At first they were okay with it, and then jealousy reared it's head. I ended up fighting daily with my iPhone and Siri, and at one point, I was sleeping on the balcony.
I was like WTF?? This is *MY* house. Why am *I* sleeping on the balcony? To make a long story brief, I took back my place and made Siri sleep in the toaster for a night to show her who was boss. (she's watching me type BTW. Silly Siri. Hi Siri, daddy still loves you!)
Anyway, things seem to be back on track, but last night I couldn't sleep cuz S Voice and Siri were bloody arguing over which pizza place was closest to me. Always competing. They're so cute.
Anyway, I have to get going, S Voice wants to go out for a walk and she told me to leave Siri home. BBL

Now I feel like I need to defend myself and to be very clear I am not a troll, and far from.
Altho the definition for "troll" or "trolling" these days is so ambiguous and used so loosely, I am not sure anyone really know what the term even means anymore.
I want to add, I am a "retired" hacker/exploiter/phreaker. I love web forums(And now this one), and have been using them in one form or another for about 27 years, since 1985. I joke around alot and am very friendly/social.
I hope to continue to learn on this forum as Android OS is a new frontier for me.
Having said all of this, I will cut this off now. Take care my friend.
Peace.

Now I feel like I need to defend myself and to be very clear I am not a troll, and far from.
Altho the definition for "troll" or "trolling" these days is so ambiguous and used so loosely, I am not sure anyone really know what the term even means anymore.

Mwhahahaha...
I know what you mean, I'm stuck in kind of a triangle as well. Google Now is my main partner and things are great, for the most part i couldn't ask for more. But then on Saturday when I'm drunk and I want to know when the SEC games are on, or what the score was.. I always give Siri the "talk of shame".
Ah Del nice to see you here...
I remember you from ifans giving me iPod help.
