With all the news about the Ubuntu Edge and Canonical's plans for Ubuntu Touch to be the future of convergent computing, you may have forgotten that Canonical is still working on Ubuntu for Android. Ubuntu for Android is essentially the same idea as Ubuntu Touch, where you get a full Ubuntu desktop environment when you dock a mobile device, but with the difference that the handset runs Android, not Ubuntu Touch.
Canonical engineer Victor Palau is showing off Ubuntu for Android running through a Nexus 4, which is hooked up to an external monitor via a Slimport HDMI cable. As you can see in the video, it does give access to full Ubuntu, complete with workspaces, and the Ubuntu Software Centre. But, as you can also see, the Nexus 4 struggles with the system. Windows stutter when moving, and overall performance is slow.
This could very well be partially due to the system not being optimized properly for the hardware in a Nexus 4, but part of it could simply be that the Nexus 4 isn't powerful enough. The Ubuntu Edge is planned to have the "fastest available" processor and "at least 4GB of RAM", while the Nexus 4 has a year old Snapdragon S4 Pro and just 2GB of RAM. Now we can see that "convergence hump" that Mark Shuttleworth talked about yesterday.

Trinity with Linux

Hi all,
Does anybody know if it´s possible to run a linux distro in htc p3600? What distro?
Thx in advance
have a look here

Linux
Thank You so much Computman.
these releases really sucks !!! it's for linux purists that just claims everydays "i dont like windows", if they don't likewindows they must take an iPhone and crack it.
for sure windows isn't a very good thing, but it works. these linux releases aren't usables !
you're right simkard.windows works
i like Linux very much. At home, my pc is configured with a dual boot for Linux ubuntu 7.10 and Win XP pro SP2.
But you have to know one thing: i installed XP only to play games which haven't be ported under Linux.
Linux is more stable, more friendly and it use your resources better than windows do.
Have a look on Ubuntu and its 3d desktop . It's really beautiful and works very well with standard graphic cards.

For me, Linux is rich through its community and will never stop growing. Possibilities are infinite.
It's why i prefer Linux OS than Windows. It's easy less, but passioning...
So, it'd really like to see a linux gpe ported to my HTC P3600 with air-crack implementation LoL
hello...
this is intersting me too!!!
we have something new?

WM6 zzzPhone Freakin Awsum

Yall Gotta Have Diz First Came Custom Rides Custom Homes now a Custom Phone.
The fully-customizable zzzPhone has launched. And when we say "fully customizable," we mean FULL customizable. With phone which comes with a 3-inch touch screen, 2GB memory, and 3-megapixel camera, runs on Windows Mobile 6 and is available for US$149. But that doesn't stop there. You can customize not only your phone's color, but also its features (higher megapixel, Skyper in your phone, etc), which would, understandably, also add to the price. We can't wait to see if the zzzPhone becomes a hit because if it is, then the major players in the industry are given something to think about.

I like the idea of pick your own options. Hopefully this will catch on. Thanks for sharing, I will be keeping an eye on these to see how they stack up quality wise when so user data is available.
sounds good, but there is always a catch....either a lack of something or something you don't want.
Just found this info, and it appears that the zzzPhone is now going to be running a non windows mobile OS. Possible Google Android in the near future.

Ubuntu gets a make over

For all you Ubuntu fans -- Ubuntu has gotten a make over, it looks great, but there are some things I'm not too impressed with; one is the window buttons and how they're on the opposite side (Looks "Macish").
Here's a preview::

Go to the website below to see their new Logo, Desktop (new theme as well), and Boot Screen, among other things.

Hmmmm, not bad.
Looks good. I don't like the buttons on that side either.
looks a lot like a mac
Protip guys:
OSX is based off of Unix... So, yeah, maybe OSX looks like Linux instead.
It's VERY easy to change the side of the buttons, do not let something so small deter you. Remember that damn near everything in Linux is customizable.

Looks good,... but they probably still haven't included via graphics drivers for my netbook

Marshmallow ->>>>> 4.4.2

Since I'm running Linux on my computer I can't say I'm liking what's going on. I guess they streamline it more and more so newbies to Android can feel comfortable. No Marshmallow for me again!
we dont have m yet
What's running Linux on your desktop got to do with an Android phone?
Android is closer to Linux than to Windows I think. Lollipop can be compared to Windows 8, and KitKat to Windows 7, which I read one say, and I agree to that.
and we'll forever miss the glorious days of ICS/jellybean which is comparable to windows vista, sure a bunch of phones didn't work well with it AT FIRST (just like vista having driver issues on crappy pre-built pc) but it ended up having the best feature set.
everything from wiimotes, to best music player, jellybean how we'll miss you. (ironically vistas wmp was the best out of any windows..) sigh. seems everything is all downhill from then on.
LOL! Well said! 4.1.2 was the best android version ever!
Its just getting more worse with every new version of Android. Just like the Microsoft Windows
Yes, same with all software Why can't they leave it be when it's working fine... All 'bout the money
Not true at all. Windows 10>>> windows 7>>8 as lollipop (smoother, faster -at least for me)> KK>>>JB/ICS.
And I am not a newbie
Marshmallow > Xtrestolite 1.5 (4.4.2) > CM 12.1.
The lock screen in Xtrestolite froze often. Phone ran hot too. 75C at most. Don't know if it was a Xposed module or what. The short story is that I did a full wipe, flashed Lollipop modem and bootloader, and then CM12.1 nightly, which works great.

Why I switched from Windows to Ubuntu

In the organization where I worked previously, I was managing the operations for a couple of Practices. One of them was Microsoft Practice. This gave me access to licensed software from Microsoft. From the OS to MS Office, we were entirely on Microsoft products. After working there for over a decade, I joined another organization where we were more into Android Programming and Open Source code. This required a change of the OS. Not that it was mandatory, but I thought it was good to make a complete change. This was not my first exposure to Linux. Two decades back, I was a big fan of Mandrake Linux. This time I choose Ubuntu.
In my view, there are some straight cut differences between Windows and Linux
The Windows UI is clean and beautiful to look at. The range of compatible software is massive, and almost all hardware works with the correct drivers.
This cannot be said about Linux OS's. The UI in most cases looks incomplete, not everything works, and every time you buy any hardware component you have to specifically ask the vendor if it would work with your version of the OS. Also, the command line is a constant companion, and occasionally you have to check the net for commands to execute some mundane task. The Linux OS's have come a long way from the early days, and most devices can simply plug and play. Most of the essentials, like Docker or the Jekyll site that I need for my work, works perfectly in the Ubuntu system. I have been using Ubuntu for the last 4 years now and have the same version on a PC and Laptop that I own.
Will I ever switch back to Windows ?
Hmm, I do not think so. It works for me, and I am a perfectly satisfied customer.
This is my story. Do you have a story of why you switched your OS ?
