Hello everyone!
Can I install native HTC apps (Contacts, Dialer, LockScreen) on my rooted HTC First? I hate these native Android apps, they absolutely uncomfortable, and that blue holo design make me cry and puke.
Thank you!

I happen to like Android, but I downloaded and flashed JMZ's very fine Sense 4.1.12 port to preview it. All I tried worked well and all of the HTC apps are there. --Larry

I've trying it, installation process was normal, but on the boot I have freeze on white screen with "HTC One" logo. Had to go to the rooted stock.

Just got my NC a few days ago, and decided to root. My software version is 1.0.0, and I was following the instructions on nookdevs.com. I downloaded the boot image to my sd card, put it in there and hooked it up to my computer. It was supposed to boot up, although with the screen not turning on. I was directed to wait five minutes and then power it off, remove the sd card, and then power it back up.
So I did that stuff. Now I just have a blank screen and no boot animations at all. I removed the sd card and tried to boot without it, and I got through the first screen which says something like "the future of reading", and then it just stays blank. My computer will recognize that there's a device hooked up to it, but i can't open it up to even put anything on it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
the 1.0.0 autonooter does not reboot on its own. I just waited a few minutes and took the sd card and rebooted and i saw the new animation on startup. Have you tried holding down the power button for several seconds to let is power down and then try to power up again?
Hopefully that worked... it says it's installing a "new software update". We'll see if this is it. Thanks for your help.
Okay, so it booted (with the droid boot screen), and it looks like it did before I did the autonooter. My understanding was that it was going to take me to a setup process kind of like the android phones. Am I missing something? Again, many thanks.

if you got a different boot screen, it probably worked. do you see the android market in your apps list?
That's just it... I don't have an apps list. It looks exactly like it did before I did all of this. It's very confusing.
Try rebooting.

That didn't help, either. It's the damnedest thing. I know it didn't have the droid boot screen before (where it says it's initializing), but it seems like that's the only thing that it changed.
I would try to update to 1.0.1, but the file from bn.com keeps showing corrupt when I download it. This blows.
Also, when I go to extras, I now have a Youtube icon, as well as a softkeys icon.
go here http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting and follow it step by step (except for the NC rebooting itself part). i'm not sure what to tell you. i do a lot of phone hacking on iphones and before that, WM phones, but this is my first adventure with an android device.

Thanks for your help... these are the instructions I followed earlier, but I think I'm just going to repeat them and see if it works. I've rooted my android phone and had no problems with it, but this is just a different beast all together. Again, thanks for your help.
What did you use to root?
When the nc boots to what you say is the stock launcher, can you open extras and see if superuser is there? Some of the root older methods do not install a custom launcher.

I used autonooter. Followed the directions to the letter for software version 1.0.0. I didn't see superuser in my extras after "rooting", but I did have the softkeys and youtube icons and they weren't in there before.

love this!! .. would it be possible to get a shutdown animation too? cause there's one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10926995&postcount=4 but it's not compatible with cwm3, nor does it have your customizations which I love.
Thanks

Thanks for reminding me! I had originally intended to do just that, but completely spaced it. I've attached it here and updated the OP. Certain kernel limitations forced me to shorten the sequence.

shutdown works perfect! love it!! thanks!!!
why am I dumb?
I can't ever get any of these to work...I install custom ROM's and widget mod's through CWM3 all the time, and boot ani's just never seem to work. I'm running Viper ROM now. I've downloaded the .zip, boot into recovery, choose install .zip, go to the file, install it....system says, it was installed properly, reboot..same boot screen as before.
what am I missing?
UPDATE: The shutdown loaded correctly, and it's awesome....still having issues with the bootup though. harumph.
This worked, but then I started getting a bunch of FC's. Then I ran ROM Manager permissions fix and it got rid of most of the FC's except for google framework which is very important. I have no idea how this could have caused these issues. But after restoring my nandroid backup (Thank God I backed up!) everything was back to normal.

When you three-finger-boot into ClockworkMod recovery there's a backup/restore and it's called nandroid backup. It works very well backing up everything on your phone system/data/settings, everything.
The custom ROM I have came with the ROM Manager apk (which is run on the phone). It has an option to fix permissions which corrects the file permissions of all of your apps and data for root access in case permissions get corrupted. Sometimes when you install a new mod/zip the file permissions either get corrupted or are not given (I'm no dev, so I don't know the specifics). If you get a lot of ForceCloses this will fix them in most cases.
I don't know exactly what happened, but I'm 99% sure it was from installing this shutdown animation and after restoring (again through CWM3) it works fine now.
Hope that helped.
I booted into CWM right after posting that and found the fix permissions option you were talking about. I had already been performing the nandroid backups, but didn't know they were called that. Thanks for the quick response!
I'm still not able to get the boot animation to work though. The power down worked, and it's pretty cool....anybody got any ideas?
Good looking out bro, This animation always stayed in my Moment as a back up cause I liked it so much.
maybe this...?

That's the same kernel I'm on. Should work just fine, perhaps there is some conflict with the new ViperROM? Haven't tested it on that ROM since I first released this. I know they have lots of modifications, even to the kernel I believe.

You need to have a kernel that supports boot animation chnges. Mammon was the one who did this for 2.1, I believe he was the one who did it for 2.2 as. Well.

hey quick question. i am running the same rom as you (SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2)and when i flashed this i hae random things fc on me as soon as i get into the phone. like mms and email. any ideas ?
I got the pre-rooted ics rom on my Vivid. Now, everytime I restart my phone, it goes into this "Android is upgrading" screen and starts "optimizing" applications. IS there any workaround to this?
*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, my phone still boots up after that, but it gets annoying having to sit through that screen every time I restart my phone.
Also, I get no audio from any apps but my music app... No music from videos, games, or any other app... What is with this???
mines does the same thing, and mine wont let me message, just says please wait.....
Same thing here. Mine takes about 30seconds to reboot, so i don't mind. Got used to that years ago, when i had a BB9000.
same here, but only when I choose restart. If I soft boot, power off and manually turn it on it does not do that.

Here you go guys. Just update to the official release. Should solve the problems.
So I'm guessing no root for now?
I think its an ics thing. Was not rooted before updating to ics and my vivid does this. I think its an ics self check deal

No, you can but you have to have the correct recovery.

You might want to pull the dialer/phone apk from a stock rom and install it or re-install Cyanogen with a full wipe or go back to stock and see if works there.

I think your options are limited.
1. Flash a nandroid if available
2. Run a RUU
I have noticed a lot of people coming from Cyanogen having boot-loops.
Hey everyone. Just decided to post this for anyone using the wonderful RaptorRom by LarryBoyG that would like AOSP lock screen for whatever reason.
Get a root enabled file manager such as ES File Manager
Go into system/priv-app
Rename HTClockscreen.apk to HTClockscreen.apk.bac
Rename HTClockscreen.odex to HTClockscreen.odex.bac
Reboot system
There you go aosp lock screen

1)HtcLockScreen.apk.bac (the ? kind)
2)HtcLockScreen.odex.bac (the ? kind)
3HtcLockScreen.apk_bac (the ? kind)
the first one (apk) I changed to.bac
second on I changed odex.bac
the last one (#3) was there like that and I left it as is
Not sure why and not sure if I should get rid of one and if so which one. Hmm
Maybe I will switch back, and try again from the beginning. Bummer

NO, no change the other day.
Im going to try what you suggest. After remnaming files, reboot then connect to computer, run commands laid out in the article and Bam I hope.
Now earlier, the setup wizard started but I got a "google servers failed, blah blah notice" I tried several times again after and never could get the setup wizard to start again. I know Im close, I can feel it.
So after the wizard runs, then what......reboot or should the lockscreen just change. and how do I go about adding the widgets to the lockscreen or are they just on by default?
Appreciate you sticking with me buddy, either way it turns out.:good::good::good:
