[Q] Cannot root my LG Optimus Black P970h v30B [france] ICS (4.0.4)

Greetings everyone,
This is my first time coming here and learning how to root android after 6 years with iPhone (2g - 1st Gen 16gb, 2007) LOL!
My friend gave me a phone LG Optimus Black P970h (Puerto Rico - Claro) with Android 2.0.2 Froyo stock factory V10A. I decided to upgrade it to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich V30B [france] since I could not find anything else and from what I understand is the best version.
Then I downloaded Unlock Root v3.0 and followed the instruction: System Settings > Developer Options > USB debugging.
Then connected the phone to PC with USB and checked [USB connection type to: "LG software"]
After clicking "Root" it appear: "Not detected any device, check out the correct way to use". Same thing happens with Unlock Root v3.1.1
Any help is much appreciated!
Cheer!

Once you have connected the phone do not choose anything when it comes to ask you if you want to select any type of connection. Then retry with unlock root.
PS: IMHO the v30c france is the best

Downgrade to Gingerbread
Hi gustavo83_pr, I had the exact same problem as yours before.
I tried so many one click rooters but none of them can really root ICS 4.0 for P970.
I had to downgrade to gingerbread.
Once you downgraded, you can use unlockroot 3.0 without any problems.
You can use Flash Tool to install gingerbread.
Hope that helps.
ICS can be root with unlockroot :
- install usb drivers
- check unknow source
- check usb debug
- choose type of connection usb slow loading
- use unlockroot

Method 4 : ICS (V30X)
Caution, this method is a full flash ! EVERYTHING on the internal memoy will be lost !
•Required : installed USB drivers, Smartflash, V30B (FRA) or V30B (EU) binaries, UnlockRoot 3
1.Flash your device (the PDF guide in UPK may help noobs) | Ignore this step if you have already updated your phone through B2C or PCSuite
2.Unplug it (this is important) and boot normally (don't put your sdc yet so overall process will be shorter)
3.Do a factory reset (settings > backup & reset)
4.Ensure of LG software connexion type is selected (settings > PC connexion > USB connexion type)
5.Enable USB debugging before pluging the phone (settings > developer options), then plug
6.Install UnlockRoot, run it and follow instructions
For getting a working custom recovery, refer to the tutorial "Recovery for ICS" below
Again this morning with V30F canada and yesterday with V30D Orange

Question: If I downgrade to Gingerbread, then root, can I upgrade again with ICS already rooted?
Thanks!

Thanks for the guide. Before I do that, there is some problem that I am encountering.
I installed both USB drivers & LGMobile Support Tool. Followed the program procedures and then it say "upgrade available", so I clicked this and another windows popped "Phone Update" and there was 4 steps: Analysis, Download, Update, Complete. I am stuck at Analysis stage, it say "Problem with communication between cell phone and PC. I suspect I have problems with USB cable. I will try to find another cable and try if that solve the problem.
Let me know if those new V30F and V30D is any better than the current one I am using V30B.
Thanks!

I suspect I have problems with USB cable. That may explain why I could not update through that program and had to do it manually and also that could explain why I cannot root with unlock root v3.0
I will try to find another cable and try if that solve the problem.

Yes, if you flash an ICS custom rom.
Almost all custom roms has all the files required for root to work.

V30F is not bad but there is a lack of langage, V30D have carrier bloatware but read and write SD card is better.

check following
settings > security > unknown sources > ticked
Settings > developer options > USB debugging > ticked
How to enable developer options? Go to settings > about phone > keep tapping on build number until it says "no need you are already a developer
Also when you are running root script, check prompt on phone. sometimes it disappears quickly if u fail to click ok
They have adb drivers in flashtool drivers...Or you can just downgrade your phone and root using kingo root or towelroot !

They restore your phone with the ORIGINAL STOCK ROM and everything that your phone has installed (Including Recovery) is lost. You don't have any recovery installed. You have to re-install it again.
Hit thanks if I helped.
After a visit at the mobile center the entire device will be resetted. Meaning official software and no recovery (Sony has no recovery build in so it seems). So yeah, you need to root it again and instal a recovery.

Have you enabled USB Debugging option from Developers Option..?
If no then do it. If you cannot see developer options then go to settings -- about phone -- tap o build number 7 times and you'll unlock developer tools option.
Then enable it and then connect your phone to compter via USB and do the necessary steps to flash CWM.
Also you on locked bootloader or unlocked bootloader.?

1. Check USB debugging is connected and your PC has properly installed the drivers for your phone. Also make sure your phone has prompted you to authorise the computer you're connected to.
2. Check no ADB is running in task manager before you try this, check flashtool isnt running or anything else that may use ADB (PC companion etc)
3. Try a different recovery
Oh and stupid question but you have re-rooted your phone first right and SuperSU is confirmed working updated and allowing rooted programs to work?

[Q] Boot loop, no usb debug, no cmw

Hi all! like most I have joined with a problem
I Have an xperia SP-C5303
I successfully rooted the device with the Towelroot app, Then used the sony mobile flasher by Androxyde to flash cyanogenmod 10.2 onto my phone. This was all working fine.
I used CMW to install an update downloaded through cyanogenmod. When I rebooted the device it was stuck in a bootloop. The device connects top the computer in flash mode, but will not accept a flash because somehow "USB Debugging" is not enabled. It was obviously enabled before because I had already flashed the device.
ADB drivers are installed but to be honest Im a bit lost now. Does anyone have any ideas how to turn on usb debugging so that I can flash my phone again?
Korbey
I can connect to sony mobile flasher in flash mode but flashing fails at the end with the program saying "For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings" how can I activate these when in a boot loop?

I would like to know if your Xperia SP has its bootloader unlocked?
The error most likely appear because you have no drivers for Xperia SP. Yes you might said that you installed it already but let's try again. Navigate to the Flashtool installation directory, which is C:\Flashtool by default. Then go into drivers folder and run the installer therein. Please tick fastboot drivers and flashmode drivers. Scroll down a bit and find Common drivers for Viskan board. Tick that as well and continue the driver installation.
After everything is completed. Close Flashtool and open in again (in case you've disabled UAC, please run Flashtool as an administrator). Then retry to flash a stock ROM's .ftf file.
