I just flashed UNOFFICIAL][Build 1.2] Slim ROM 4.3 and now my previously purchased apps are not showing as purchased in google play.
Anyone had this or know how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

Searching for 'multiple identical questions' is, as you know, standard practice here at XDA. Please don't assume that I failed to follow protocol.
A fruitless search it was. Hence my post.
Having said that I have since had a small degree of success simply restoring with TB
Kind regards

Posting here because I still can't be sure I've found the answer.
Now, does editing the build prop really work? I've been reading that it doesent work for paid for apps. I have a nook HD and have recently done a mod to 10.2. Some apps I originally bought in the nook store but have been using the gapp. But others are from the play store.

Hello all. New to the forums and android devices. First thanks for all the info posted so far. Its been very helpful. I was wondering how you all stand on security apps for example Lookout, wavesecure ect. Is it something thats needed or just a piece of mind deal? And what would you reccomend? Thanks in advance.

Every time I flashed a ROM on my Touch Pro 2, one of the first things I reinstalled was Lookout.
I've actually used it twice to find my lost phone..
Naturally, it was the first thing I installed when I got my Captivate :3
Couldn't live without it.
I've read some reviews/comments listing concerns about the Privacy Policy of the software. Some say they utilize/sell your private information.
I'm not sure if the concern is pretty valid, or if it is some folks that are obsessive about privacy.
Any other apps to look at? I want to be able to track my phone if stolen or lost, etc.
I have Lookout installed mostly for the lost phone feature. The anti-virus can't hurt I suppose.

I've searched around, but haven't found a straight answer; maybe I just missed it. Can anyone give me a simple answer on what an Android ID is, is used for, and why it is important?
Any information is appreciated.

Here is my understanding and someone correct me if I am wrong.
Android ID is an unique ID to each device. It is used to identify your device for market downloads, specific gaming applications that needs to identify your device (so that they know it's a device that was used to pay for the application) and such. The importance comes when we use leaked 2.2 ROMs which is pretty much every ROM right now out there for the captivate. The leaked 2.2 ROMs (at least for some ROMs) have a bug where every device that flashes the ROM has the same android ID. This results in having to try to re-download a market app over and over again and failure to register to play the game you bought.
In order to fix it, a random android id generator has been implemented on many ROMs at boot so that every device that is flashed gets a different ID. Also, you can go back to JF6 (stock 2.1) and check your android ID by downloading "Android ID changer" from the market. Once you write down your android ID, you can download the same app in 2.2 and change your android ID that you've written down.
That makes sense. So it seems that if I can download apps from market okay, I'll be fine until my next flash (I'm a junkie, I'll admit it). I'll make sure to pull my ID next time. Thank you for your help.

No problem.
So, might it be that there's a boatload of people using the same ID to access the market? And the market only allows x number of connections per ID?
Hence, when I retry enough that my app finally does install, it's not random at all; it's because there are less people using that same ID at that moment in time?
Confirm or deny anybody?

Not sure why we have to retry when we have the same ID because I am, myself, a noob. But yes, that is why you have market problems. You can always fetch your ID from stock 2.1 and change it to your original ID in 2.2 and see if the problem goes away. Also clearing cache from market should help.

Sounds reasonable. I'm pretty sure this is why I wasn't able to download Pocket Legends through the Market (i eventually downloaded it from the developer's website).
This a why ROM flashing is so off-putting to me. Of all the threads I've read on flashing a ROM for the Captivate, this is the first mention I've seen of this issue with device ID and how it can affect Market access. It's not even in either of the Wikis. I know you seasoned flashing pros think the process is so easy and that we're just babies for having any trepidation, but the info is so fragmented and scattered and the forums are littered with posts from people who are having/had problems related to ROM flashing. I really wish there were just one definitive place with instructions on the process, a list of the benefits and negatives (like this) and links to any and all necessary downloads. A lot to ask? Maybe, but it would probably reduce significantly the number of people having problems or asking questions. Just sayin'.
I think the Android ID issue isn't being acknowledged enough. It should be one of those warnings in every "things to know before flashing" threads right next to "back up your files to your computer."

I have to agree on this one. I was getting really frustrated with my magic with market problems and it was when I moved onto my captivate that I figured out the android ID issue. I would make one if I had time.. but then again I don't know that much

Agreed. I got into the habit of bookmarking every useful tidbit, even copying and pasting the best information (like the answer to this thread) to a local text file, but I do still wish there was a more centralized location.
I must say though, that designgears is pretty good; the Wiki answers a good deal of questions, and not just those exclusive to Cognition. The Wiki's Reference page is here, and it's worth reading through, to be sure.
Edit:
Also, more on topic, I accessed the Market at 4am CST and updated one app and installed another without any delay. Seems there's a lot of us using that same Android ID for the Market at peak times.
new phone old id
So if I write down my android id and purchase a new phone (bigger faster better) could I import the old id so my apps that I've purchased will run on the new phone or are they going to look for the device id?

Your apps are attached to your Google account, it doesn't matter what device you use, if you connect on the same account, it will download them.
If you don't have it here it is. This is the newest version of the market. Im posting it because its such a major update and I know people are gonna want it early instead of waiting for it to show up in roms. I've tested it on Apex (latest version) and it is working perfect. I do know that the movies wont play on rooted devices so dont rent or buy movies. But that isn't a program issue that's a restriction that Google has imposed on us and considering everyone reading this is gonna have a rooted phone, most likely, its important I tell (warn) you about it. Also if for some reason you have an issue with me posting this don't bother me about it. Im just posting it for the people that want it. Also if for some reason you dont know how to install just go into the system apps folder then remove the old market and paste this one.
EDIT.... There is another thread that I didn't notice before I posted this so if you wanna download from that thread that's fine. Its all the same though.
Love it

read the edit in the OP. Fair enough?
This new market is baked into the rom that Im currently, and I've gotta say that it seems so much smoother than the last android market release, and the layout of the apps and info makes it a much more pleasant experience IMO. Thanks for posting the .apk
Hi,
I have searched for any information on Carrier IQ and the Samsung Focus S but have not found any. I have a Focus S and would like to know if anyone knows if this software is integrated or installed on the Focus S and if so, can it be removed or disabled? I had a long converation with Samsungmobile via their Live Support chat function and they less than forthcomming which makes me immediately suspicious.
Many thanks in advance
Your phone is safe. No WP7 devices have CIQ installed.

Hi,
I'm typing this question on my phone using the xda app, so I might have missed a post pertaining to my question. I do realize that the specifications on these particular tablets aren't that great, but I still enjoy using mine. I used an application here in the forum's to disable the amazon app's that I didn't want to utilize. So now my tablet more closely resembles an actual android tablet. I've got the google files app installed on both my tablet and my phone, it really does a decent job of keeping them rid of junk files. Over time though I've noticed that my tablet has slowed down, just like when using the popup keyboard, sometimes it takes a second or two before the desired character to appear. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so were you able to correct it, and if so how ?
Thanks,
David

Hi,
This is the wrong forum for talk about the New Fire 7 2019, instead, use the correct forum please
About your tablet, the described behavior sounds pretty common due the poor hardware and the lack of RAM on that device. I I would try to unlock/root it and install LineageOS 14.1 to see if the performance goes to better... If you don't want to switch to LineageOS, at least fully-uninstall the junk from Amazon with root.
Regards.
Hi Rortiz2,
Sorry about posting in the incorrect forum, if I could contact a moderater, I'd ask them to move my post to the correct forum. Can you please let me know how to contact one ? Also, thanks for taking the time to provide the information I was needing.

Fully concur having owned several generations of Amazon's least expensive gizmos. There are 'tricks' that yield modest improvement (eg: establishing a static swap file; tweaking swappiness) but the most effective generally need root. A factory reset will speed things up for awhile but you'll loose personal data and customizations.

No need to move unless you wish to continue the conversation; responses here are what you'd get in the other sections/threads. There are plenty of existing threads that discuss performance on these low end devices. Most conclude with similar outcomes.
Hi,
Supposedly a forum moderater has already moved my post to the proper forum. Sorry for any inconveniences I might have caused.
