If you want advanced options i suggest that you first enable 3 button combo and than go to download mode and flash custom kernel via odin

What exactly and how do I create a nandroid backup? I keep reading about it but not sure exactly what it is! I did make a backup using the cwm app that comes with chainfires kernel.... Is that a nandroid backup? Any help is greatly appreciated. I just want to have a backup incase i brick like many others have!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The one you reboot into cwm then start? Yep, that's a nandroid backup.
I am not sure about ChainFire's CWM but boot into recovery
Vol Up + Home Button + Power button simultaneously while booting
Select backup from the CWM menu
Select full backup(there might only be one backup option)
Let it backup
You have just done a nandroid!
This is pretty useful as well and describes what it is:

Guys am in ICS LP8 INDIA. I could get that pointer in text box but if I touch the pointer it doesn't pop up select, copy, paste icons???? How enable this back?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
It's on the top right of your screen... 3 buttons for copy paste and so on...
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7000 mit Tapatalk 2
Some apps, stupendiously dont have that functionality, but when you press on word you want to copy paste, you get that box in top corner.
You will find ICS manual on Samsung website, on the note page. Handy for cross reference

Ok its tricky, reboot, try replying with qoute, then press on word untill you see as attached.
If it still isnt working, then it really sucks. Maybe someone else has seen this before?

WTF???? This really sucks... Still I don't get it I can see a blue single arrow...that's it. It doesn't do anything when I press.
Edit: and I don't get that option anywhere in the phone!!!!

Crap that sucks. Best I can suggest is revert to gb by pc odin, in gb do factory reset from dialer, wipe everything and then pc odin ics, again. And then perform the rooting instructions to the letter.
For install guide see dr ketans thread.
Unless someone has better idea?

Whatever you do, do not perform factory reset unless you have safe ICS kernel.
BTW, double tapping words or tapping and holding on text for a couple of seconds pops out cut/copy/paste menu.
In certain applications for example - Gmail, there's even search option.
Hope this helps.
Corrected if double tab doesnt work.

If stock kernel is the safe kernel, then I'm the CEO of Samsung and I'm going to give away S3 to every Note owner for free...kidding.
Please read the PSA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
All stock ICS kernels including CF-Root kernels for ICS have superbrick bug.
Your device would get bricked if you perform data wipe/nand restore using those affected kernels.
DAFUQ, Franco R3, SpeedMod 3-3 are safe kernels.
Kernel used in official cyanogenmod is also safe kernel.
All known Gingerbread kernels are safe kernels.
Before you start flashing custom ICS roms make sure you read the respective OPs throughly.

It seems you were away from the forum for a while.
Dig in Q&A and General section, you would find a lot of bricked my note, write failure threads.
I have Safestrap downloaded, but I was wondering about CWM. Is safestrap the same thing, or would I need to use CWM in custom ROMS? I've looked but couldn't pull anything up. Just wanna know what the safest rout would be.
Safestrap is for phones with locked bootloaders since we have unlocked bootloaders now Safestrap is no longer needed which is why CMW should be the route you take CMW also saves sapace by only have one rom loaded on your internal sd instead of having a stock rom and a custom rom like safestrap did.
So it seems I am gonna download cwm then. Thank you :3

Dear All,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) device rooted via ODIN as shown here. I am currently on Abyss Kernel and have Ginger Bread v2.3.6. A yellow triangle also pops when the phone is booting up
I have ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.1.5 installed on my phone, but when I got to the recovery mode, volume buttons DOES NOT let me choose anything other than to reboot the phone (which is the first option).
I have downloaded latest ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.2, but not sure how to update it.
I have tried updating through ROM Manager, but sadly it does not lists my device out there.
You will need to upgrade to a newer version of Android first. Then you can get a custom kernel which will have newest version of clockworkmod

Thanks for the suggestion. I had earlier tried upgrading from Samsung updates, but I guess it is not possible after rooting the phone. I am looking for other options now.
Please suggest me some, any links will help me out.

Many Thanks again. I really appreciate all your help.
Just a last question before I begin downloading the ROM. My device has below baseband version and build number.
Code:
[B]Baseband version[/B] : N7000DDLC1
[B]Build number [/B]: GINGERBREAD.DDLC1
Can I download below Stock JB ROM ? I guess this will unroot my phone (not bothered, just asking).
N7000DDLSC N7000ODDLSC - India
I hope the yellow triangle which I get while booting up (after rooting) will not matter. Right ?
Thanks a million in advance. It is because of people like you, that we get our life back.
You can install any version of jb you like, but it's worth sticking to your region. You will lose root, but can flash phillz kernel through stock recovery to regain, very simply. yellow triangle doesn't matter until you need to claim warranty. To remove, run triangleaway app from play store.

Hello,
This post says that if I am using Gingerbread ROM, I need to "First wipe cache and data", but my volume buttons DOES NOT (my buttons are working well otherwise) let me choose anything other than to reboot the phone (which is the first option). I was trying to follow this video.
Alternatively, can I do a factory reset as below, also shown here as Method 1.
Code:
[LIST=1]
[*]From the homescreen press the 'Menu' button.
[*]Press 'Settings'.
[*]Scroll down and tap 'Privacy'.
[*]Press 'Factory Data Reset'.
[/LIST]

you can use ADB for wiping data.
There is no need to wipe data now. Just go ahead and update.
