[Q] need a bit of help/advice - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, this may seem a bit noobish but this it's the first HTC iv s-offed
anyway a couple of questions:
1 - im s-off on hboot 1.54 with supercid and im currently unlocked but want to go back to stock for a while? do i need to change my cid to run an RUU? if so why?
2 - even tho my phone is and int version can i actually make it a dev edition?
i know they may sound noobish questions and i have read threads and im a bit confused with a few things. we only ever had s-on the one x so this is slightly new to me
thanks

you can install any RUU with super cid. but if you want to update your device ota after the ruu, you will need to change cid for one that match the region of the ruu. i.e if you run a .401 ruu with super cid, it will install fine but after you need to change cid to HTC__001 for OTA.
edit: same for dev edition, just run a dev edition ruu with your supercid and after installation, change cid for one that match dev edition for ota.

[Q] [S-Off related) Can you change MID without modified HBOOT?

I have a T-Mobile HTC One (MID PN0713000) and I have been trying to test if my HSDPA on AWS band would work if I flashed a Dev Edition RUU. (I know there wouldn't be a way back without a T-Mobile RUU if I did lose the band, but that's fine.)
My problem is that the RUU is failing even though I have changed my CID to BS_US001 (Dev Edition CID) because my model ID doesn't match. Developer Edition (and AT&T) MID is PN0712000 versus my PN0713000, so it is not allowing the RUU to run. And even if it did, you can't get OTAs without a matching MID, so it would defeat the purpose of flashing a different RUU anyways.
So my question is, besides some modified HBOOT methods that I've seen, that I'm not in the mood to try due to a high risk of bricking the device, is there any way to change the Model ID of the device?
With Super CID you can flash any RUU but you will have the issue you said regarding the MID come OTA time...

That's why I wanna see if there is a way to change the MID. Only point of flashing a Dev or Euro RUU for me would be to have a stock device but still get OTAs faster. And same would apply to the Google RUU if/when it comes out, which will also probably be a different MID.

[Q] S-OFF / SuperCID / Relocked

Hey there
So I have been reading a bit about S-OFF and SuperCID because they keep getting mentioned on the forum but I never really took the time to know the importance of them. I was wondering if someone can take the time and briefly explain the benefits of each? From what I understood, S-OFF lets you install RUUs that may be older than the current ROM you have - as in you can install a 1.27 even though you are on 1.29 at the moment. Is that correct? And I read that SuperCID lets you install ROMs from any carrier - it would change your CID to 11111 or something like that which is universal and not locked down to a certain carrier or region. Is that information correct or am I missing something? I'll be looking to change CID when 4.2.2 is officially released for the One because my region always receives it last, so would I need S-OFF and SuperCID for that or just one of the two?
And the last thing is the bootloader. I have always thought that it was not possible to change the bootloader status from unlocked to locked, but rather from unlocked to relocked. I came across this thread, though, and it is confusing me. Is it or is it not possible?
Thank you.
you answered your own questions. as far as locked/relocked. S-off lets us do anything.

[Q] HTC One debranding

Hi all, just wondering if someone with some knowledge can help assist me debranding my HTC One. I came from Samsung devices, and knew the ins and outs of rooting, flashing roms etc, but HTC devices seems so over complicated after reading through various forums.
All I want to do is debrand my Vodafone HTC One, and install the international uk firmware, and be able to receive ota updates in future.
I have been reading about changing Ruu, changing CID, and im just baffled by everything, although slowly starting to gain some knowledge.
Please I would appreciate if someone could give me the correct procedure to do this, do I need to unlock the bootloader before doing it? Already registered on HTCDEV website, just havnt unlocked bootloader yet.
I have spent hours reading info, and my head is practically going round in circles lol.
What do you mean by debranding? Do you mean putting a custom Rom on it?
Edit: I missed a section of what you said. I believe you have to unlock the bootloader, turn security off, and get Super CID.

Thank you, So I need to unlock bootloader, get s-off, then install supercid. Then all I do is install the international stock rom? and I will receive ota updates?
I believe so, but you must have the international stock recovery on too for the OTA updates to work.

All the following is dependant on having an hboot of less than 1.54. If you are already on hboot 1.54, you will not yet be able to s-off and follow this process until an exploit is found for the 1.54 hboot. To check this, turn off your device and restart it whilst holding the volume down button. The information will be displayed.
1 Get S-Off http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
2 Install super cid : fastboot oem writecid 11111111
3 Run RUU 1.28.401.7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874
4 Change cid to generic : fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
You will now receive ota updates to 2.24.401.1

Run revone, unlocked bootloader and s-off
change CID to HTC__001 or 11111111
run RUU for international M7 i would start with PN07IMG_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.16_R_Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_318486_signed_2_4
once this is on the phone you should get all the OTA releases bringing you up to date.

Thanks for that info mate. I just checked and im on hboot 1.54, which means I wont be able to do this at the moment. Was that RUU you state an exe file? I guess I don't have to root or install any custom recovery to do this? First I need to wait on an exploit for sboot 1.54 to get s-off. Also it might be easier for me going down the custom rom route?

Until s-off is achieved for hboot 1.54, your only choice is custom roms. This should be fine as you are already updated to the latest firmware through Vodafone.

Ok cheers. I thought that I needed to be S-Off before I could install any custom rom, but I could root and install custom recovery with s-on?

Ok, now here goes lol. My understanding so far is that in order to install any stock ruu I must first get s-off. As im running stock Vodafone firmware, the CID must match this firmware. If I get s-off, I will be able to install any CID and stock rom, as long as they match one another. and as im on hboot 1.54 just now, supercid wont work yet, so s-off is a no no at the moment. I can still root and install a custom firmware though.

Debranding using an international CID

Hi, my dad will be buying a HTC One from Vodafone and as all networks do they come with a network CID. I know when people change their CID it seems it is always a super CID, but is it fine to change it to a CID like HTC_001?

In order to change the CID you will have to first s-off the device and that will not be possible if it comes with h-boot 1.54 which is likely.
If however it comes with h-boot 1.44 then s-off will be possible and you will be able to change the CID to whatever valid ID to suit.
Yeah i know about the S-OFF bit, and i guess the 4.2.2 ruined the S-OFF trick :/ My One X although unbranded which is nice can't be S-OFFed
Thanks for your answer

[Q] Developer Edition flashed to GPE, back to Stock?

I know, this question is asked a lot but I haven't been able to find any threads that reflect my exact situation so please hear me out!
I have a Developer Edition from launch and recently wanted to try out making it a Google Play Edition, so I did that.
Got S-Off, unlocked, rooted, flashed with the GPE RUU
However I find myself missing the camera features and now that 4.3 is out and with rumors of Sense 5.5 I'd like to go back to Sense
Here's where I'm confused: My custom recovery is gone since flashing the RUU and my bootloader now says that it's locked, even though it's a Developer Edition. I understand that the Google Play Edition doesn't come with an unlocked bootloader so my assumption is that the RUU simply resets it.
Here's my tl;dr version of the question: Do I need to go through the whole unlocking process to go back to sense? Can I just flash the RUU for the Developer Edition and automatically get my unlocked bootloader back? I didn't change the CID or any of that, all I did was flash the RUU.
Thanks for any help!!
Edit: The only thing truly confusing me is the fact that the bootloader got locked (or so that's what is says)

Do you still have s-off? Then you can flash a dev edition RUU to get back sense.. If you want to keep s-off, flash a 4.1.2 RUU, get s-off and then ota update to the latest version.
When you flash the dev RUU, you'll get back your unlocked bootloader.

Just curious at this point.

Some say you lose s-off, some say you don't..Afaik, an RUU is the safest way to go back to s-on. So to be on the safer side get the dev edition RUU for a 4.1.2 base and flash it.. If you lose s-off use Revone, then ota update to the latest 3.xx base. This will also update your hboot to 1.55, so make sure you're s-off before upgrading, as 1.55 cannot be s-offed yet.
Ps: Always use the thanks button

so as long as the you are s-off, you can ruu to any version even if you are at 1.54 hboot?

You need to downgrade the HBOOT first following post #2 in the GPe conversion thread, and then flash the RUU. You will NOT lose S-OFF but you will lose all data on the phone so back it up first

So considering I'm S-Off with the GPE RUU flashed, hboot 1.54
Will the S-Off allow me to directly flash the 4.3 RUU exe from htcdev? Will I maintain S-Off?
I'm just a bit confused now as you guys somewhat told me the opposite things, I appreciate the help though, getting great information

I'm not sure, here's what I found today...
I was running the leaked Sense 5.5 system dump and FW and wanted to go back to the 1.28.401.7 RUU so I could get the official update. Not an issue I thought as I'd just flash it and away I go as I'd done in the past when on hboot 1.54. It gave the 155 error about not being the right RUU even though I'm S-OFF. So I flashed the hboot in the GPe conversion thread #2 which put it back to 1.44 and the RUU worked fine so it must be something with the new 1.55 hboot that stops it working. I can't be certain but it worked for me

Hmm, I have hboot 1.54 not 1.55, so it sounds like I may be able to flash right to 4.3 with the .exe (at least from what I understand)
If it is incompatible it should just give me an error, correct?
I'm willing to take the extra steps but if they're not totally necessary then I'd much prefer to just go down the simpler path
Also, I've got CID BS_US001, what are the benefits of changing it to supercid? Would I get OTAs such as the Sense 5.5 faster?
Hopefully I'm not being a pain, I'm trying my best to learn.
You should be fine on that HBOOT, just try it and if it works it works! If not, you'll get an error and then you just following the second post in the GPe conversion thread

Yep, go ahead and try, if it gives you an error, post back.
AFAIK, the dev edition BS_US001 gets OTAs the quickest, so you could keep it at that. SuperCID will allow you to flash any RUU/OTA, even of a different region/MID/CID
Nope, you're not being a pain We're all trying to learn and help here
Good news, I tried flashing the 4.3 RUU exe from HTCDev and it wouldn't work so I just took the longer route and flashed 1.44 hboot, flashed stock 4.1 RUU and then exe flashed up to 4.3
So I'm back on Sense and I'm happy, the only thing that was a slight setback was my bootloader, for some reason it did not unlock after flashing the Brightstar RUU so I went through the process on HTC dev and reflashed the 4.3 RUU to get back the flashlight and other apps lost through the unlocking process. Maybe I should have unlocked it through fastboot while on the GPE ROM? Not sure, but either way I'm back on Sense, bootloader unlocked and S-Off maintained so a huge huge THANK YOU from me.
Now I'm just waiting for Sense 5.5!
You guys are awesome :good:

Newbie move I suppose  haha
I've been rooting and flashing ROMs on my Androids since the G1/Dream believe it or not, but with every new phone/manufacturer there's always new terminology and steps to be taken so I feel like I start over every single time, which honestly isn't much of a bad thing, keeps things exciting (even though HTC made the G1 but that was what feels like ages ago now)
Thanks again guys, it's hard not to feel intimidated but it's been an extremely pleasant experience learning from you. This is why xda is by far the best site you can find for these things.
Cheers
