Help regarding which rom to flash

Hi all,
I recently upgraded my virgin XZ (no root, no BL unlock) from middle east generic 4.1 to the 4.2.2 TW generic using flash tool (still no root and no BL unlock), i need to know which rom is recommended even if custom or stock and whether it will atleast make battery life better.
Another question is do i only lose sony BE and keys if i unlock bootloader or does anything else also deletes them.

if you are willing to unlock your bootloader, Carbon is the way to go. its the smoothest rom for our device and very battery friendly too. the downside to unlocking is the loss of BE and drm keys. but trust me, you wont miss it.

Just quck question: let's say i will do this i need to do the following?
1- back up original stock
2- root stock
3- back up TA and keys, etc.
4- unlock bootloader
5- flash carbon rom
6- root carbon rom
Did i miss something? Note i dont have any recovery software like twrp or cwm.
Also will flashing such rom fix volume loudness issue?

If you need to ask such a question you're probably best sticking with stock for now.

Rooting is it really worth it?

Hi I am new to super smart phones like the z1, I'm the type of person to want to hack things and make them beret but I'm also the type of person everything goes wrong for. I want to know if it really worth rooting my phone what I would gane and if it worth the risk,? Thanks

1. Easily backup your apps + data to your Ext sd card (no PC required)
2. Remove bloatware (pre-installed carrier apps that you cant remove without root)
3. Full customization of your xperia z1. Examples: change your navigation bar layout, add 3 dot menu bar, customize your status bar, assign different actions to your hardware buttons, increase/decrease height of your navigation bar etc
4.Flash custom ROMs and kernels (if your bootloader unlocked)

5.Overclokking.
6.Improve Battery life with Frequencies and Governors.
7.Full access to your System phone.
8.Modified build.prop to make uncompatible, compatible apps.

anyone who is asking this question shouldn't mind if he needs root - you need root ^^
there should be no problems if you read the instructions and immediatly ask questions when there are problems

So if I root my phone will all the stuff I have on there already stays there or does it wipe it. What happens when new updates come out? My warrenty stops to doesn't it? I would have to flash a stock rom if i have any problems? so the phones functions all work the same Ie connecting a ps3 controler? Just worry I'm going to screw it up or loose things to gain things

Unlocking bootloader might do that, but not root.

So rooting my phone will give me more control and customisation. Still keeping installed apps and game progress? Un locking bootloader will change everything and loose everything?

Exactly.

First thing I do when I get a new phone. Root the thing. Grab titanium, get CRT an I'm happy again. . Yea its worth it m8. 100%

You don't loose anything when you root the phone.
When you unlock the bootloader than yes you will loose a few features such as Bionz and also the Xperia Throw.

First question is what version of firmware you are on. To get a fully functional root on 4.3 firmware (with write to system ability) you need to unlock the bootloader first.
You can have a partial root on 4.3 that will still allow use of Titanium Backup or Xposed Framework. To get root you need to use Flashtool to downgrade to old 534 firmware. Than root with vroot (check out my channel for video). Than install dual recovery. Once you have root and recovery flash a prerooted rom. I would highly advise using monxdified rom.

i have 4.2.2 is that what you mean by firmware ? i wanted to ask is it worth it whats the point in having a website where you can post question you want answered to then only be told not to ask any just read other peoples dont make sense

When you go to Settings>About Phone under Build Number you will get the firmware that you are on. To root the phone you need to downgrade to .534 firmware. This place is to ask questions, but there is a search function for a reason. When you ask the same question for 100th time you just flood the forum. Your question on why you should root has been answered. If you want to find out how to do it read on the respective threads.

I did a backup of TA partition, then I updated to 4.3 (290) and unlocked bootloader in order to flash TWRP and flash SuperSu. All was nice, except for x-reality didn`t work (which i dont care so much) but I didn't know if BIONZ camera image processor stop working too.
This is my only concern. I want to know if its possible to have unlocked bootloader and root without loosing BIONZ processor. I tried restoring TA partition while unlocked/rooted, but it became in a soft-brick which I only could solve flashing a ftf.

When you unlock the bootloader you loose the DRM keys.Technologies such as X-reality Engine or Bionz will not work with bootloader unlocked.
When you restore your TA do it on the same firmware that you did the backup on. There have been issues reported when trying to restore backup from 4.2.2. on 4.3

But it's possible to have a working camera without bionz working? (such it happens in 4.3 after unlocking bootloader).
I can only do TA backup in 4.2.2 (534 or 257) because are the only rooteable versions. And I only can unlock bootloader in 4.3 because it's the only version which doesn't lose camera functionality. How it's supposed to be root and restore TA in 4.3?

The camera works on 4.3 when bootloader is unlocked. You are going to loose bionz and x-reality. You cannot relock the bootloader on 4.3 if you want to have a functioning root. It's either one or the other. When you restore TA you will relock the bootloader.

Some questions from a first timer

Until a few days ago, I didn't want to do anything involving rooting with my Xperia Z just in case I messed anything up but since Towelroot came out, I went ahead and used it to root my phone without any problems but now I have some questions.
Now that I have root access on my phone, if Sony releases an OTA firmware update, does this close the root access?
My next goal with my phone is to try and cut out as much bloat as possible from my Xperia Z but I'm worried I might get rid of too much things that I might render it bricked. Is there some things I should leave well alone?
Also thinking about trying custom roms but I'm overwhelmed by all the guides so are the guides even from years ago still valid in 2014?

Updating firmware will remove root
If you remove system apps you wont get OTA
Custom roms require unlocked bootloader which will void your warranty and you wont get OTA
Look up in the forums for latest guides

OTA shouldn't remove root. Root gets removed if you flash with flashtool, sus or pcc

If you remove something wrong, just flash a ROM again. But like always said: Don't remove something, if you don't know what it is.

Like androidtweaker1 said, unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty. The TA-Backup includes some unique data from your device(!), which will be removed for ever if you unlock your bootloader. That's why you should make a TA-Backupfirst, to keep this data.
There are 2 ways how SONY take a look at it if you unlocked the bootloader:
- They take a look in the servicemenue
- Or they take a look at if the DRM-keys(which are included in the TA-Backup) are in your device
If you relock the bootloader only, they will see in the servicemenue that it is locked. But if they take a look at the DRM keys and they aren't available, it's clear for them that you unlocked your bootloader.
If you want to send your device to a repair center, just relock the bootloader and restore the TA-Backup. There are also some threads about it, so don't be afraid to search for it. And one more thing: Never, and really never restore the TA-Backup from an other device, it will hardbrick your phone!

I'm about to jump on the wagon and get a Z3 Compact to replace my Nexus S. My Nexus S is long overdue and the Z3C would be a significant upgrade.
My Nexus S is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. Of course, I have found the appropriate rooting procedures and unlocking bootloader topics for the Z3C. I would like to at least root the device to get Titanium Backup and the Xposed Framework. I have some questions however :
Are there any issue to just root the Z3C without unlocking the bootloader ?
I understand the unlocking the bootloader will cause issues to some functions due to DRMs security keys. Is rooting causing any issue on the Z3C ?
Is it possible to still receive Sony's firmwares updates OTA after rooting ?

Nope. There is a way to root Z3 compact without losing DRM keys.

Yes. You will still get the updates. However if you have a custom recovery installed or something modified in the system folder, the update verification will fail. Thus, rendering the update function useless.

But I don't see any benefit into unlocking the bootloader of the Z3C at the moment, since it should be supported for some time. Unlocking the bootloader just gives the ability to install custom roms, correct ?

Yes. It could also be the reason why. I am not 100% sure on the technical details but based on my reading, OTA performs integrity checks (could be hash checks) on the system files before applying the update. Meaning if one system file fails to match an item, the OTA will not install itself. Also, I read that custom recoveries are one of the causes for failed OTA installation. In my experience, after I downgraded to KitKat and root it using Giefroot, I successfully installed OTA for the .77 firmware. However, during this case, I still don't have Xposed and custom recovery installed.

How to root Z3+ single SIM

Hello,
I find the rooting thing very confusing.
I have a locked bootloader, is there any way to root my device without unlocking the bootloader? (for example with oneclickroot)
If I unlock the bootloader, what functionality do I lose?
If I understand it clearly, I need to unlock the bootloader, then fastboot the TWRP recovery and then within the recovery I can flash the supersu.zip package?
Also, do I need a kernel with the Sony security disabled if I just want to root the stock ROM? (SONY RIC, SELinux)
I hope someone can clear these things up for me....

By unlocking BL you lose X-reality,Bionz and some sound fuctions if I'm not mistaken but I think there is a way to restore them

I unlocked my BL long time ago just because I needed root, I wanted so bad because I need to install cerberus antithief app and some other features.
Then noticed that camera was so slow, video is so lag, so better don't use it and record videos, somethimes color has a lot of contrastbut automatically goes normal, in sound quality and calls I really didn't notice anything bad.
Now that I upgrade to the last firmware, ther is no safe way to root it again, untill now I think I should never unlock my BL...
I have the dual version E6533.

With galaxy and htc I could play around with Sony z3 and plus no root without sacrifying basic functionality... Next phone will be a galaxy s7 or iPhone 7... If possible both... Galaxy for sports iPhone for business and non sports

Basically, there's no way to root any Xperia devices since the Z3+ generation with BL locked. Beacuse Sony update their BL so that you can't replace the kernel even if you rooted the system.
