As the title explains, my device keeps popping up a window telling about waterproofness and that my external ports (USB port, Micro-SD card slot, SIM card slot) are OPEN but they are closed tightly... Could this be a hardware issue or software one? Thanks for your answers and help!

You should try to reinstall your phone with PC Companion or Sony Update Service, don't forget to save anything u want to keep on your phone before doing anything.

Don't worry, it's just a reminder, nothing more. There should be an option which you can tick so that you will not be notified anymore.

Oh wait does he means the advert that pops and says to be sure that flaps are well closed? Because this only pop when you plug something on the USB, if the port is closed that shouldn't advert you...
The phone itself cannot detect of the ports are open, it is just warning you.
When you next get the pop up just click on the "Don't show me this again"

The phone knows when the usb is pluged or unpluged, that advert you when you unplug it, u can't plug the usb cable without removing the flap so the phone knows when the flap is supposed to be open...

D'oh. Of course, but that is not what the warning is about. It just says to ensure all the ports are closed and it cannot tell that on its own. there is no sensor detecting if the post is open or not. Also, the usb port is not the only one with a flap. The phone cannot tell if the micro sd card or sim port flaps are open.
So just click on the "Do not show me this again" option and all is good.

I've had not luck with any button combination, battery pulling, pulling/installing the usb jib etc.
I have had NO luck.
I have noticed that the phone will go blank and NOT show the (phone-!-desktop) icon.
Please advise. Any and all attempts to put the phone into download does not work. The Jig actually just keep the phone screen, that's it.
The screen/ phone shows the 'phone ! computer' screen.
You are trying to use the jig with the phone powered off, right? Trying to use it with the phone on will not work at all.

yes, and to try recovery mode.
no go on all
Doesn't matter if you use a JIG and and you get a random screen you always try to see if ODIN sees it....

ODIN recognizes a device. What then? Reinstalling anything failed.
Then its not the Jig's issue its either you doing it wrong or a faulty cable. Basics run ODIN as admin and put your phone in DL mode. Connect your phone to a Mother board usb hub and that should work. If that doesn't work then your cable could be faulty.

Yes sir. OK. I'll look into the cable question. It may well be the cable as I've experienced issues with it when putting movie files on the phone to play on TV in the past.

You were right on the money. Bought a new gigaware cable from the shack and was able to just simply work the ODIN magic on the phone. Wow. I'm amazed at how some problems have such simple solutions.

This post saved my phone. thank you for those words of WISDOM.:good:
I bought my Z when it first came out in Norway, and the only times I've ever opened the external flaps were when I first inserted the required cards, as well as three times when connecting it to the computer using the USB cable. For a week now, sometimes when I open my phone, it gives me a message that reads "(Title) Water Resistance (Message) Please close the external connector covers to secure water resistance." I have the option to prevent it from telling me again in the future, but it makes me a little worried, as I do not know if this is a warning (implying something is wrong with my flaps, since it does show up when they are tightly secured) or a reminder (just a normal reminder to make sure I know to close them). My question to you is whether or not anyone can answer the question. I looked through the user manuals, searched the webs and these forums, but couldn't seem to find any information regarding this issue. I just simply need to know if I should have it checked out or not. Any replies are highly appreciated.

It's part of SmartConnect , it's just reminding you to check your ports are closed because you just unplugged from usb port or headset port. You can disable the notification next time if you want.

I also selected do not remind again while i was watching a movie on the phone when it was charging... I cant find the setting to reset that warning so that it reminds me to close it. Can you show me exactly where. I looked in Smart Connect already. Dont see such a setting.

My stock rom M8 is answering and making calls in speaker mode all the time. Also, the home screen is allowed to rotate. I've read a bit about some other phones having this issue caused by a bad USB port. Has anyone reported issues like this with the M8? Plug in a USB cable and it's back to normal. The USB cable doesn't even have to be connected to anything on the other end for this to work. Unplug the USB and the screen comes on a couple seconds later with the issues back again. I'm hoping someone can tell me I don't have to replace my USB port to get it fixed.
Phone info:
Stock Sprint rom
Running ART (changed animation scales down to .5)
Only using 10B of 32GB of phone storage and 10.5GB of a 32GB SD
Factory reset the phone and it didn't fix
Using Tasker for managing Ringer profiles and mobile data connection
Chrome installed and updated
All phone updates are updated
Always use HTC charger and charging cord
Phone is babied (It sits in a case on a microfiber cloth on my desk at work )
HELP! My ears can't take anymore of the auto speaker mode.

It looks like your phone thinks its always on "Car Mode". Some cleaning of the usb connector might be able to fix it.
There is an extra pin in the phone usb connector that detects when its connected to car dock, desktop craddle or in usb host mode.if something is bridging it to the ground pin, this can happen.

I cleaned it with part of a Q-tip and some glass cleaner, then probed around in there with a needle. Nothing looked dirty. I ran a usb cable in and out a few times to see if it would work something out of the way. I'm leaving it dry out now (just in case it's a little moist) and we'll see what happens.

I spoke to HTC and our last resort before sending it in is to re-flash the stock Sprint RUU. Are there instructions on that somewhere? Or, is it better to just root now that it's somewhat busted?

Hello.
When I try to power on the phone nothing happens.
The only thing I can feel — is a little vibration.
If I plug the charger, vibration becomes periodical.
Nothing more.
I can't plug it to the computer.
Windows doesn't see it, even doesn't show it as unknown device.
On *nix systems there is even nothing in dmesg.
So, is there any chance to resurrect the device?
That vibration let me hope for a miracle.
Thanks.

Yes, really, using this program.
It is not the matter of program or drivers.
I've already wrote that there is even nothing in dmesg, like I plug empty usb cable.
As I think you should take it to a service center of Microsoft to check status of your machine seems problematic

try buying a separated batt charger... once the batt is fully charged, it will boot up. no worries on software... it might be due to hardware... the charger pin (usb charger and data connection) might desolder due use and time... and if you where impatient, maaaybe it also might have damaged main board charging fuse...
it is repairable... but hard and not soft.
Guys,
I have few questions hope experts can solve.
Questions:
1. How to install xap from phone (not PC)
2. How can I access C: drive (like PC):crying:
Hi, hope you guys have a good day.
As title mentioned, my device can't use MTP and my pc do nothing when i put usb on my pc port. It's just charge it. That's all. No MTP option. Just it charge. My pc also do nothing. No device software installed icon and nothing happened.
Try to format my device and format my Windows (using Windows 7 convert to Windows 10 and revert back to Windows 7 because my laptop is slow) but still, no luck.
Other function it's fine. Just no MTP not working.
Have somebody experince this before?
Thank you for your reply, have a nice day and stay save.

Hi, thanks for reply
Tried install drivers from Sony website but nothing happened. I use original cable that comes with box, same...no luck. Change with other cable (LDNIO cable), still same.
Sometimes, it detected but mention as "usb not recognized" but it happened in very rare situation.
..and i wonder, is it about water damage on usb or is it software issue or hardware issue? My phone got wash once (wash once with plain water (got sticky choco on screen) since i bought it on december 2020).
hey bro try this. connect your device and open your device manager on your computer. see if any of your drivers have a X on it if it does or doesn't try this driver installer .. its completely safe and I've used it my self

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for late reply,
I've sent my phone for warranty to the shop where i buy it. I've already tried your 1st method but nothing happened but sometimes it says "usb not recognized". Not try the "driver installer" you give since i have sent back my phone for warranty.
I'll keep updated about my phone status in a few days. Thanks bro!
Hi, sorry for late update. Just got my phone, the technician just replace PBA board and my MTP function work again. Only my device not water resistant since they don't replace my back adhesive.
Will do it my self.
