[Q] Wechat on KitKat - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed KitKat on my device, and installed wechat, after opening wechat i realized that when i touch People Nearby black screen comes and program closes, It look like hat wechat cant get google location so it cant get my location to search other people near me
Any solution?

What ROM are you using...
Kitkat is acutally in UNOFFICIAL/ALPHA-Phase so bugs are there, i think we should wait for nightlys ...
Have you restricted any rights for the app with the privacy guard? Maybe disable it for this app and test a second time ...

Getting unknown unwanted notification

Hi,
Got my LG Watch R yesterday and still sorta getting to know it, but last night around 2am, I got a notification saying "16mins to Work", despite not working and being a student and directing me to a place I've never been before.
I don't even know when or how I set this notification (if I did) or how google thought I would want to go there.
I think it may be a notification from google maps, as there is an option to navigate when you swipe to left a few times which opens google maps on your phone.
Any help would be massive appreciated.
Hi,
It's an information coming from Google Now and I never found a solution to stop it. In Google Now you can settle your Home and Work location and it works with these. Unfortunately, even if you don't give a Work location, it sometimes comes up with an info anyway... :silly:

Thanks man, seems you're right. Opened the google app and I can see it there. This is very annoying, what if you don't go somewhere everyday or you're off from work? It seems theres no way to even mess with the notification settings.

Chinese phone- l10, whatsapp and other apps not running in background.

Hello,
My dad bought the p9 not so long ago in China, EVA-AL10C00B386, android 7.0, EMUI 5.0, he stopped using it shortly after because if whatsapp was no open in the background, he would not receive any notifications.
My phone died yesterday so I'm trying to use his p9 now, not only whatsapp doesn't receive notifications when offline, I noticed that you can't use whatsapp on your pc either ( since it requires your phone to be connected when used), so I guess whatsapp (also telegram, but I guess it's a general problem) just doesn't run in the background when the app is not active.
I've been searching online for a fix, but I only found irrelevant solutions.
Is there any way to fix it? and if not, will installing a different rom fix the issue? if so, is there any specific rom I should get?
EDIT: I enabled developer options, and in the Running Services, whatsapp and the rest aren't running, so why is the phone blocking these services?
Thanks
try to use protected-apps to receive notification
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/152649/what-is-protected-apps-in-huawei-phones
I can not find the protected-apps options, I looked every where, and under Battery, it doesn't exist, the closest option I found was settings -> battery -> close apps after screen lock.
And I already disabled it for everything.
For me worked to add a widget on my homescreen of the app you want to run in the background. With the widget the phone is forced to run the app in the background. With Whatsapp for example you can add the widget with all of the chats.

That's good to hear that it worked ?. You could also make Whatsapp to a system app. I don't know why but that works also but you need root for this.

Android Auto various problems

Hi,
at the moment i have multiple problems with Android Auto.
Long time ago it worked at my phone without problems.
I can't tell since when exactly the problems appeared.
I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi 4x with Android 7.1.2
Headunit is a Kenwood 9716BTS
Problems:
- AA is not able to start Spotify.
when i plug in the phone to the car AA is starting normally.
when i then go tu music it says, that there is a problem with Spotify.
when i start Spotify manually before pluging in the phone to the headunit it is working.
- no WhatsApp messages are appearing.
i get no info when i get a message, but i can send a message without a problem-
- Google Assistence Voice
when i ask with "OK Google" it doesn't come any sound.
it looks like it is maleing something, cause it takes a few seconds till the icon, while saying, disappears.
just like it is saying something, but i get no sound.
while navigating or writing WhatsApp messages the sound is working normally...
Do anyone have any of these problem or know how to fix it?
I tried uninstalling AA and installing it new, but no difference.
Frank
Frank, I might know what the issue is if it is running MIUI on your Xiaomi. Go into 'settings' and then 'manage apps' and look for the programs Android Auto uses and open it in that setting.
For example your Spotify -> check that 'autostart' is switched on as it is switched off by default. There should also be a 'Battery saver' setting, change that to 'no restrictions' as it might stop the application. If you use Waze etc then do the same for those applications.
And please there are so many takers and runaway people on boards here. Let us know if it works or not, you help other people by sharing.
thanks for the tip.
Autostart for Spotify was deactivated. Maybe thats why AA was not able to start Spotify.
I will try it after work.
Energysetting were already deactivated for Spotify and AA.
Now there is just the problem with Google Assistant, where i don't get a sound with AA.
On my phone the Assistant works fine, just with AA i get no sound.
I have something in my mind, that it has something to do with some codec settings, cause long time ago i read about the problem... but i don't find this anymore while searching for the problem

i have changed now the mm.enable.qcom_parser in the build.prop
hope it works, when i try it at evening
Cool, feedback very well appreciated... and I guess this goes for everyone!
Miui and permissions might also be an issue. I change roms on a weekly base (don't ask why ... thx xda) and I have yet to find the procedure so it works every time. Most of the times I already set the permissions before I start up AA. Same thing with Whatsapp, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it helps to uninstall Text to speech in the Google Play store and reinstall it.
The only thing you MUST do is test these things when you are standing still and not while driving!
Spotify start problem is solved withe the Autostart option.
It must have been changed with some MIUI Update...
WhatsApp Notification and Google Assistant sound problem is still there....
I'm trying to google again to find anything about it

But the '- no WhatsApp messages are appearing.
i get no info when i get a message, but i can send a message without a problem-'
So you don't see a popup? Does it show as a message on the main AA screen?
Can you maybe make a small video of it. (you can pm me if you don't want to distribute)
i don't get a popop and also i don't get an info on the main screen
After changing mm.enable.qcom_parser to 245389 Google Assistence is finally speaking to me again
I think after next Miui update i have to change it again.

Weird, I run the latest versions of Xiaomi.eu on my Poco F1 and that seems to work perfectly. Might be worth posting a bug report on the official Xiaomi website, but don't get your hopes up high.

Go to settings > apps and permissions > permission management > choose an app and go to "Single permission setting"
I think the main one is "autostart", but i turned on the first few to be sure. Worked for me.

You also might change the battery settings for those apps. In settings - battery you can change the intelligent app management to more battery use in background allowed. This did the trick for me...

Eventually enabling "mobile data use always enabled" in developer settings might help. Or disable the stupid network assistant / intelligent wifi ect.
You have to disable com.vivo.pem through adb shell command. That process kills apps to save battery. After that all notifications will come without problems

If you do not like the UI change it or get rid of the mobile. For you it is horrible but for most of users not. It is a matter of taste.
Good luck with it.

Thx, very helpful
use a third party launcher to get rid of google page (lawnchair launcher 2,nova launcher)
and make sure you haven't locked homescreen when adding contact shortcut
I accidentally found a way to remove the Google feed.
I tried installing 'Breeno feed' from APK mirror. The phone required rebooting before it appeared on the left of my homescreen.
Most of the features didn't work properly, probably due to my phone being from the UK. So I uninstalled it (on app menu shows as 'Quick Glance').
After uninstalling it, Google feed no longer appears on my home screen, in fact I can't swipe left at all now
It stayed gone after a reboot and hopefully won't cause any issues.
Just thought I'd share this info and hope it can help someone.
After another reboot today Google feed reappeared..
So I just quickly repeated the steps and it's gone again. I guess it doesn't remain after a reboot.
Hi I've upgraded to this phone today from my find X2 pro and I saw this thread so I extracted the Smart Assistant apk from the find x2 installed it on the find x3 and it works fine but you only get weather, calendar and step counter features with my apk I've attached below if any of you want it.
Edit: there's a bug with weather not updating but otherwise it's better than having google on it I guess
Install apk and reboot.

Yh it doesn't update for me either I'll have to let people know that
There is another solution for disabling it completely which was shared by wedaxi on reddit:
Hello, maybe it's late to leave an answer but this is how I removed the google feed completely from the home screen.
You need to enable developer tools on your phone: https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/dev-options
Download Android Studio on your computer (this is the easiest way to install adb wich you will need, but you can search how to install adb independently)
Connect your phone to the computer with usb cable (you can also connect the phone wirelessly but the cable is the easiest method https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb)
Once you are connected use this command from the computer console to disable google feed app
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
This only disables the app, it does not uninstall it, to do that you probably need to root the phone and I just don't recommend it.
I'm sorry if this method is not the easiest, this is what I did after not finding any other solution and It works.
However the Goolge-App and Lens won't work afterwards!
Hey there,
I found a way to "disable" the Google feed without installing another launcher.
If you hide the Google App in the Privacy Settings, when you swipe left, nothing happens. The icon at the bottom which indicates how many pages there are is still visible but honestly it doesn't bother me much.
Hopefully, Oppo will add the option to hide the Google Feed page.
Cheers
