Hey guys!
Love this forum, had used it before to help my girlfriend mod her Nook Tablet 16GB to CWM 10.1.
Anyway, I just got the Nook HD last night from a black friday deal. My questions are:
1) What is the latest version of CWM 10.X that works on Nook HD?
2) After I install CWM, and I wish to downgrade to factory version just as if I bought it brand new from the store, where can I find those procedures?
Thanks!
Update #1:
I figured out the answers, thanks to this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500
The answers are:
1) 10.1.3 is most stable release, but there is 10.2.x nightly build.
2) Using CWM, make a backup of the stock OS. In the event I ever want to default back to stock FW after CWM, all I got to do is boot into recovery, and restore from image from the external SD card.

I am a noob to rooting a nook color and was wondering which image would be recommended at this time? It is my wife's nook color and she is got 1.1.0 update on it and we are running windows xp on the desktop right now so any input would be greatly appreciated. Oh and she has a 32gb microsdcard in the nook that is blank.
If by image, you mean Andrioid version, I'd stick with rooted stock Eclair, if I were you. It's all well and good to expermient, but it can be rather time-consuming.
Personally, I'd say to use AutoNooter and follow the instructions on NookDevs. Make sure to use the right version (1.1.0 in your case) and good luck!
Thanks for the input
FYI, it was completely non-obvious to me until I asked here, but apparently you can root (or not root) the stock OS and alternately boot off an SD card at your whim.
Is it recommended to update to 1.1 before rooting? or It doesn't matter? Any advantages?
I am really liking the Monster Root Pack from thecubed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870
Rooted one of the NCs I have from 1.1.0 and have found it extremely stable and all facets working beautifully! Have some minor issues with Dolphin ND but prefer Opera anyway. Burnt the image to a 2GB Class 2 mSDHC only installing the root and GApps. Installed CWM later. thecubed did some sweet work on this. Almost foolproof IMO.
Give it a whirl.
I'll tell you I read through these forums for 4 days before I finally rooted my nook. Used Auto nooter and then realized that I bought this thing for full use as an Android tab and the next day I looked into CyanogenMod 7. After 2 days of trying to do the dual boot (sd card boot), I gave up and finally just flashed CM7 to the internal
Yesterday a friend of mine brought his nook to me. Saw how much I could do that he could not, and had me root and flash CM7. It is so easy if you follow the instructions on the CM nook wiki page! Including time to format the SD card (which takes the longest) and install, it was less than a half hour before he was up and running as a full tablet. THe instructions, although they seem brief, are great there. Follow it to a key and remember to ask questions if needed.
Hey everyone-
This is my first post here but I've frequented for awhile. I'm currently using a rooted nc 1.0.1 with the latest cwm version. I've decided to bite the bullet and put ginger on since all of the awesome bluetooth business, but I have a simple question- I am definitely down with learning all this sd card reformatting business for cm7, but if I'm looking to install phiremod straight from rooted 1.0.1, can I simply flash the zip after backing up? Do I need to prepare anything?
Bwahaha question answered. Currently booting that sheit.
I installed manualnooter-4-5-18 with no problem. But when I install manualnooter-4-6-16 device gets stuck on colorful Nook Color logo show.
My version is 1.3.
I also need some advice:
1. Isn't it better to use cm-7.2.0-encore instead of original OS? I can't decide.
2. Shouldn't I update to more recent versions of nook software (higher than 1.3) then mod it?
Thank you for software and support

It depends on what you want.
If you are invested in the nook store with lots of purchased apps or want to read interactive kids books, stay with stock. If you stay with stock, upgrade to 1.4.3 (you can get a CWM flashable version by looking in my tips thread linked in my signature) and root with Manual Nooter. I think it is up to 5.08.20.
If you are not invested in stock, definitely go to CM7.2. It is smooth and very stable.

So I decided to go with CM7.2 but
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
says it only works with 1.2. I got the link to wiki from here.
And one technical question, does CM7.2 remove original Nook Color OS completely? If so why its version matters?

Yes, if you install CMx on EMMC it will replace B&N ROM on the device.
That is an old instruction... The reason that method only works with 1.2 is because they have you rooting it and installing CWM on EMMC. By making a bootable SD and installing CMx from there, there is no reason to root the B&N ROM before installation... so you can install it regardless of ROM on you NookColor.

So I just copy the CM into the flash (that I had made it bootable with CWM) and install CM from there. I create a backup using CWM.
First off, hi all ^_^ !
My name is Yuki and I am new to this Forums and flashing (so please bear with me).
Today, after experiencing of the terrible lags for the umpteenth time, I decided to go ahead and flash my phone with the CyanogenMod 10.1 Alpha 6 Rom as found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094554
However I am new to flashing and I just want to run a few questions past you guys before I go ahead, just in case. Also I am amazed for the support and software for this device
So this is what my device is running atm:
Model:
GT-I9001
Firmware:
2.3.6
Basisvers.:
I9001XXKPO
Kernel:
2.6.35.7-1207170
Buildnr.:
Gingerbread.XXKQM
First off I already downloaded and plan to install CWM 5.5.0.4 following the steps of this tutorial, however I before installing CWM I plan to save my data with Install AppBak, SMS Backup, Call Logs Backup.
Here the tutorial:
http://androidlegend.com/install-clockworkmod-recovery-cwm-on-samsung-galaxy-s-plus-i9001/
After this I plan on following the installation guide from the CyanogenMod 10.1 Alpha 6 thread.
However I still have some questions after reading the threads:
Will the CWM 5.5.0.4 work with the ROM and or my current 2.3.6 Firmware?
Do I have to remove my Simcard (I read somewhere that certain flashes require you to remove SIM and external SD)?
Will installing CM 10.1 hinder my phone from connecting to 3g?
Is there anything else you could recommend me before I go ahead and flash my device (e.g.: Is CyanogenMod 10.1 the best option for the I9001 etc... or maybe a good video tutorial on flashing)?
Thank you for your time and thanks in advance for your answers!
Greetz,
Yuki
stupid me didn't backup and i upgraded to the hd+ and want to return the hd to office max. i read leapinlar thread and for the life of me i cant find the zip download or directions on how to return to stock on hd. i have cm 10.1 installed with custom recovery. sorry guys lots of info on the pages and i must be missing it or i am confused lol. i tried to change the npk to zip and do it but i get a bad error. forget it. found them. hope it works
Make a backup of what you have for use if flashing plain stock fails. There are links to plain stock files in item 6 of leapinlar's Android Development thread about Stock and Extras on the first message. Be warned, I had trouble with it before I restored a stock backup I'd made prior to installing cm 10.1. Once stock is onboard you can use the advanced menu to reformat the internal data and data/media (sdcard). You can also reregister and do a deregister once stock is onboard. BTW, OfficeMax here stipulates a 15% fee on returns.
