FYI-Foxfi Bluetooth Tether Work-around Gear Watch - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I have been following XDA since my Droid X and Nook Color Hacking days. We have come a long way since then.
I have been doing a lot of reading on how to get internet to the Gear on mu primary phone without rooting or custom rom, here is what I came up with.
I have always been taking advice from them and now its time to give back. This worked for me and I hope you can use it to work somehow for you.
Method 1 : My old phone I recently took out of service is a Verizon Motorola Razr Maxx running rooted 4.1.2 Stock Rom.
I used SQLite Editor to flip the bit to eneable the native hotspot tethering, ( I have unlimited data ).
My current phone is Samsung Galaxy S4, Non root running 4.3, compatiable with the Gear Watch. So I take the sim out and put into the Razr Maxx to get cell service, Then I can pair the watch ( after putting the custom rom on ) to the Maxx. Turn on Bluetooth tethering and I had internet on the watch.
That was a pain because I lost the gear manager and I had to keep flipping my sim from 1 phone to another.
Method 2 : Much better till something better comes along.
My Samsung Galaxy S4 is a stock non rooted 4.3 rom with Foxfi running on it, no root and it works. Here is what I do:
I start Foxfi on my primary phone (Galaxy S4 ) to start wi-fi tethering, enable Bluetooth to connect to the Gear Watch with Gear Manager, all ok.
I connect my Razr Maxx to the Galaxy S4 via WI-FI hotspot, make sure I have internet on Razr Maxx, all ok.
Enable Bluetooth on Razr Maxx and connect to my watch, then I go into settings on Maxx and enable Bluetooth tethering in native Hotspot section. Enable Bluetooth tethering for internet on custom rom settings under Bluetooth>paired devices>razr maxx settings>allow internet access. The Gear Watch is on bluetooth internet via the Maxx.
I know, 2 phones, 2 radios running on both phones. I got to admit I thought the internet would be slow on the Gear doing the extra hop to get there but it wasn’t.
I hope I explained this ok, this is my first tech post to share, Enjoy

I have the custom rom on the watch, you still need to get the watch to the internet via bluetooth.

[Q] Galaxy Tab Sprint - how to use bluetooth internet?

Hello people!
I've got my Galaxy Tab from US and now i'm really dissapointed, because it is CDMA-version. There is no CDMA-providers in my area.
You could think that it's simplier to sell this device on eBay and buy european, but it's really hard in Russia. Our major postal service is worst, in the best way they will deliver your item in US in a couple of months, but there is big chance to loose it quite.. and there's no responsibility..
So maybe someone knows the way to attach cellphone via bluetooth and use external 3G-internet? I think it's called DUN-client, but i can't find it.
Also i want to know if i can add other languages in Android. I applied 'custom-locale' from Market and set Russian, but the most part of interface (General settings, Calendar, etc) still in English.
Thanks!
I was curious of doing to same. Is there a way to, lets say get a blackberry to share its internet via bluetooth to the tab?
if you have a rooted android phone you can use wireless tether, it supports both BT and WIFI tethering

Galaxy Gear + S3

Hey guys,
Yesterday I bought Galaxy Gear. I currently own Galaxy S3 that I would like to pair with Gear.
I'm on custom SlimBean ROM with Android 4.3. I have installed the APK Gear Manager that is floating around the forum here (around 17mb), it installs without the problem, but when it comes to pairing I get a little popup that some part of Samsung SDK is not supported and the connection is being broken. Did anyone else get it to work with S3?
I have time till next saturday to decide whatever I will keep it or not, maybe there will be a solution by then. I can always return it to the store.

update us if you manage to get it to work considering samsung said that it will pair with teh s3 once it updates to 4.3 :good:
sure, no problem, but my hands are tied at the moment, unless someone have some other idea how i could possibly pair it.
Can I ask does the watch display basic functions I.e time, camera etc ? Or is it stuck a the pairing icon?

maybe there is a way to go further, but i don't see such option. it's stuck at pairing and only display battery left.
gear got gs3 and my gear paired without any issues. My gs3 is stock rom, downloaded the gear manager from Samsung app store and it all worked fine! There are some things that don't work - s voice, weather, can't install any new apps from Samsung app store but pretty much everytjing else works (calling, transfer of pics and videos, changing clock face, etc). Any questions, pls ask!
Rooted Stock Rom on my S3 and it paired fine with my 1st Watch (That went back to Best Buy, since I wasn't paying $300 until it was fully working - and my new one will be here tomorrow - had to take the 30% deal).
So it paires and the functions that worked, worked well ... Like the previous post - No apps / etc ... But Calls worked, pictures, etc

No, it's not rooted, I installed the earliest version of the manager and that one seems to be the only one that works. Today stupidly I went to Samsung app store and tried to install the new version... as the install wasn't working I deleted the version I had - and this was a mistake as new versions seem to be compatible only with 4.3. After searching this site, I've found the version that works again thankfully! so if you click here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484065&page=4 and install the app from the last post - this should work. Let me know how you get on.
for anyone curious, using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 and this Gear Manager apk: http://depositfiles.com/files/pmgqxv9c5 will get you paired up with your Galaxy Gear.
Everything connected right up no problem.
The only issue is no notifications, which is the main reason I wanted this but its only a temporary issue. Hopefully.(c'mon 4.3 update :fingers-crossed
Camera, calls, even incoming calls, work fine, can change app settings and everything. I was even able to load GamboyColor AD and play some pokemon on it lol.

Bluetooth internet tether with gear.

Anyone knows the easiest solution for BT tether to a rooted GN3? I don't want to put Safestrap on it right now. I don't want to pay $10 for Easy Tether which is the solution I found on the gear thread. Thx

The easiest and free way is to safestrap with xnote on rom slot 1 (leaving stock intact). BT tethering worked with my gear on Null 17. But the screen is so small typing was annoyingly difficult. BT tethering is also very slow. Downloading Tasker on the Gear play store took a long time. I got gmail installed but the small screen and slow tethering really made it impractical...after a day I went back to stock rom on the phone and flashed the gear back to stock (actually the leaked ML1 firmware, it added the alarm apk)...YMMV
I ended up getting it to work with EasyTether free version. I thought I could do some cool stuff with Tasker, but can't think of any.

[Q] wifi tethering without rooting android phones

One of the main reason for me is to root my phone was "tethering" and even though I don't really use it on daily basis, I would like to use it whenever I have a need for it and that's why I root my Moto X and right now still stuck on 4.4 (not even 4.4.2) and now 4.4.4 is about to come out and even more so incline to jump on it, not to mention Android L is coming soon too)).
So, I'd like to get an opinion on ClockworkMod Tether (no root) - Android Apps on Google Play.
... or what's my other alternatives? in best case scenario I'd like to use android-wifi-tether (wifi tethering, no cables) but I understand once I switch to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 I will no longer have this ability due to not having root.
I used to use FoxFi (WiFi Tether w/o Root) - Android Apps on Google Play a long time ago and it worked great, I'm not sure if this will work for Moto X on 4.4.4 though.

You are correct. Your only option once on 4.4.2 or above will be USB Tether. The ClockworkMod tether you have linked has been reported to work fine on 4.4.2 -- no idea if it will continue to work on 4.4.4.
EDIT: have you considered the possibility of unlocking your bootloader (which is permanent and would allow you to use wifi-tether)? I realize that you are using a Verizon device, but you might check the thread titled "China Middleman Back??" in the General sub-forum. Apologizes if you have already tried this method and he didn't have your code....
Good Luck

Urbane LTE 2nd Edition

So I decided to hold on to my Urbane LTE 2. Currently I'm a bit annoyed at the fact that the watch needs to be tethered to the phone albeit via wifi or over LTW, the phone needs to be online for all Google functions to be able to work. Annoying!
There is no proper whatsapp support that I could find. Whatsapp is a integral part of my daily communication. I think I use it more than making phone calls or texting.
I was wondering if there is any way to install a full Android system on the watch as has been done for the Gear S.
I would highly appreciate any tips and secrets etc. I love this watch and really want it to be a standalone and independent device. I do not want to carry my Note 5 with me anymore.
Thanks in advance,
F.

Old thread I know but did you ever get your watch worked out? I have my Urbane 2 and Note 5 working together as well as a Gear S and both need the Note 5 on and connected via at least LTE or wifi to work properly. I don't carry my Note 5 much on weekends as there's no need any longer with these two devices. 'ok google' works on the Urbane LTE gen 2 just fine when connected remotely.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used my Urbane or Gear s in months since I'm using the Finow 3G. I would still love to be able to use the Urbane LTE 2 4G with full Android on it.
