This problem looks alot like the defective screen problem on the Z ultra
My phone had been working fine for months, then I was swapping Sim cards and when the phone was off inbetween cards I dropped it (don't know if that matters)
But now it turns on can feel it vibrate, makes noises when pressing volume key, led flashes like I have messages - Except nothing comes on the screen at all.. backlight comes on, and that's it?
Any idea on a fix?

Yesterday I made a call on the XZ and whilst I had the phone against my ear the screen switched off - this I fully expected - what I did not expect was that at some point during the call I had to press a number to get through and when I went to press the number the screen refused to switch on!! Obviously I could not press the necessary number or indeed end the call. It took me almost ten minutes of hearing the automated message trying to reset the phone (I pressed all the button combinations I knew of and even invented a few myself just in case...) without any luck! I had an idea and removed the SIM from the phone, the bl%%dy automated message still continued, I then inserted the SIM and the screen went on and the phone finally rebooted without me pressing any keys!
I had noticed before this, that the screen did remain off after my calls, but as the other person usually hung up I never really took much issue with this behaviour.
Has anybody had this problem before? My phone is rooted, with the 434 stock firmware and locked bootloader.
Do not have this issue on .434. Didn't have it on .350.
Did you install a screen protector because some of them can mess with the light sensor
Press thanks if I helped
Same issue here...very annoying!

Screen protector. Issue comes up a lot. Screen protector.
I had the same issue, I even tried to test the proximity sensor via service menu: it turned on when I got my hand near the phone, but it wouldn't turn off. I removed the screen protector, now it works just fine.
After a while I suddenly got a similar issue where my screen would not turn on when calls came in.
In the beginning i could push vol+ or powerbutton and it would turn on.
Then nothing worked. Call came in and I had to wait for the call to end before the screen could be turned on.
Tinkered around with apps to find the culprit, aaand zilch.
this was on .350
After updating to .434 (global), everything was back to normal
-C6603
-Unlocked bl and root
-No screenprotector, or anti-shatter film for that matter
Hi!
Because I didn't get any answer in the help-thread I try it this way.
When you receive a phone call on your XZ, does the screen turn on again when you move the phone away from your ear?
This problem drives me crazy! Every phone call (active and passive...) the display of my phone turns off (as it should) when I put the phone to my ear. When I put the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't turn on again. I always have to press the power button to enable the display again. In rare cases, the display turns on as it should. But when a phone call is longer than a few seconds, the display won't turn on again.
The only reason for this problem I've found on the internet is the usage of a screen-protector. Actually I have a screen protector installed, but is has a cutout around the proximity sensor. I've also tested the proximity sensor with an app - it turns on/off correctly when I move my hand in front of the phone...
Does anybody of you experience this issue? I've tried a lot of firmware versions, but it's everytime the same... No matter if I use CM10.2 or different stock roms...
I hate it so much - not being able to stop a call before being redirected to an answering machine only because this piece of shi*** refuses to turn on the display during a call.
I'm looking forward to your answers - I can't imagine that my XZ is the only one that shows this behaviour.
Regards
is there really nobody with any screen on/off during call problems? can't imagine that my XZ is the only one... or is there an android-"feature" I donn't know?
I've already removed my screen protector... but nothing has changed...
I also have this problem frequently, i enabled power button to end calls under accessibility setting so if i press it, it ends the call, so could be partial solution to allow you to end calls, but not a real solution at all if you want an option not to end the call but to have the screen turn on only. Let me know if you find any other solutions

Actually stopping phone calls isn't my main problem. But it annoys me that I can't check the current time by removing the phone from my head for a second. Also when I have to interact with an answering machine (windows activation hotline for example^^) - everytime I have to input a number during a call this f*cking screen is off and I have to press the power button.
Don't people use their XZ for making telephone calls? Am I the only person on earth who uses the phone for other things than watching movies and surfing the net?
I also want to know if this is a general Jelly-Bean problem... If so, replacing my phone with another one would be meaningless.
Press the power button twice to activate the screen during call.

Pressing the power button ONCE also works to turn on the screen during a call. But that's the point. I do not want to press this damn power button. What does the phone has a proximity sensor for??? When I start a call and remove the phone from my head after a few seconds, the screen will mostly turn on itself. But after a while (a minute or longer) moving the phone away from the head will not turn on screen anymore...
Is it too hard for phone manufacturers to build a phone that can be used as a phone? If I wanted to have a tablet I would have bought one...
Problem solved. I have a Nexus5 now and it is just awesome. May the new owner get angry with this piece of sony sh*t.

Hey, recently I bought a Sony Xperia Z (C6603) off ebay. The phone is working fine so far, except for one thing:
The power button is VERY sensitive. If I only swipe over it with my finger, it treats this already like a press.
Comparing it to my other C6603 (I want to give on of them to my parents) with a working power button,
I can see that the working button sticks a tiny bit more far out than the overly-sensitive one. Also, the sensitive one doesn't give that typical "click"-feedback when pressing it.
Not only do I fear that this would accidentially turn on the screen whilst being in my pocket, but also it's a bit irritating while actually using the phone (initially I thought that the LCD was defect until I realized that it's only flickering because my finger touched the button lightly).
Has anyone else experienced this and/or knows a solution? I guess since the device is waterproof opening it (and closing it after) is bit more of an effort and is thus not too advisable. But who knows.
With the case on it's a bit better but still an issue.
tl;dr: Power button is VERY sensitive, is there any easy fix?
Also, is there any app that could tell me how often the screen got turned on during the phone was in my pocket? Just to know how much this is an issue.
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
I have an Xperia Z, and yesterday I've dunked it twice in a swimming pool for like no more than 5 sec. all the laps were closed but the water got in anyway, it stopped working for a while then after one day It dried out and I used Hair drier to dry it more now the phone works just fine but the power button doesn't seem to respond. instead, the volume up button can now start the phone and the volume down can shut it down, the speaker does not work anymore, when I plugg it to the charger the power indicator doesn't go on. And the touch screen is working but the brightness on it is too low barely can see anything, and yes I checked the brightness options and evrything is exactly how it's supposed to be.
So, did anyone had this problem and will the screen regain it's britghness in the next few days or I should maybe replace it.
Help me please.
Thank you
Hi.
Well, coming from a similar experience, I'll have to tell you that I had my display panel replaced. Though, mine wouldn't work at all. The phone would turn on and even give out notifications (with sound) but with no screen. And it was only after the replacement that I found out I don't have vibration anymore (someone said, however, that my vibration panel is dead due to the overuse of glow for closing the back cover).
Well the vibration on my phone works just fine but the speakers are dead though
Hi all, I have an old Sony Xperia V that's been working perfectly for a good few years now, but recently it's developed this infuriating problem with the touchscreen, where it randomly acts like somebody is holding down the onscreen back button, and you have to turn the screen off and then on again to make the problem go away. Sometimes it also does this with the homescreen button, but most of the time, it's with the back button. This problem has gotten to the point that the phone is almost unusable, as it does it every single time I turn the screen on, if I turn the screen off and then on again (as mentioned earlier) the problem usually goes away for a few minutes, and then comes back again, making the phone extremely frustrating to use. Any ideas on what the fault could be? I've never put custom firmware on this phone, and I've never used it underwater. I've cleaned the screen many times with no effect on the problem, and I do not have a screen protector covering the display.
