Gear Manager 1.5.120903 - No Additional Notifications on S3 VZW? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hey all,
I seem to be running into issues all over the place over here. For starters, I'll drop a summary. All items are stock with no custom roms or root.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3
Model: SCH-I535
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: I535VRUCML1
Kernel: 3.0.31
Build: JSS15J.I535VRUCML1
Hardware Ver: I535.10
Network: Verizon
Gear: SM-V700
Software Ver: JDQ39.V700XXUAMII
To start off... I, for an unknown reason, don't have access to the samsung app store on my S3. I signed into my samsung account, but still no dice. Has this been renamed or combined with another app? I also tried to download the samsung app APK and install it, but got an "Application not installed" error. /shurg
Side stepping that issue, I downloaded the Gear Manager APK (ver 1.5.120903) and installed that. My previous version was 1.2 and had none of the "added notification" features. It installed its 20 sub applications without issue, and I connected my gear to it. After connect, it updated my gear software to the version you see above. After a reboot of both devices, and a reconnect, I am only able to get the same basic notifications that I had with the old version...? Any thoughts on why that is? I don't have the "More notifications" options to adjust it. I also tried the ATN apk to sidestep even this issue, but that fell apart as well. lol
Hopefully I provided enough info to give you guys a good picture of the issue. Let me know if you need any more data.
Regards,
CIS

I have the same phone. I searched the samsung app store through my browser and there was a prompt to download it to the phone, Then I was able to update the gear manager. It looks like you need to also update the gear. In the gear manager click on the GALAXY Gear and click software update and everything should work. Good Luck

The GEAR manager and the GEAR firmware are seperate from each other.
to get the full notifications, you need the GEAR firmware to be MK7.

just upgrading to the most recent Gear manager wont get you all notifications, you have to update the firmware on your gear. use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463743 download the UK version of the firmware ( ending with MK7 ), get the gear into download mode and flash the firmware you downloaded using the Odin flashing method.

Gear Upgrade
GM All,
I tried to upgrade the Gear firmware, but it gives me an error about exceeding the number of allowable downloads, and asks that I upgrade it using Kies... which also gives me an error about my version of firmware not being upgradable through Kies. /sigh
Is there an alternate way to upgrade the Gear firmware? Even if I have to root it... This thing is pretty much useless to me without the advanced notifications.
TIA!
CIS

Resolved
I just saw a note in another thread about installing a latent version of Kies to allow for support of devices that are not running newer versions of firmware. Going to give that a shot. I'll post my findings shortly.

The earlier version of Kies found the device and updated the firmware to MK7. All is working well now!
Thanks to everyone!

Applying Tizen To My Gear 1

I see that you can do it using Samsung Kies, but I need a couple questions answered before I attempt it.
First, my gear is rooted, but I still have the original stuff in it. I never flashed another rom or anything. Also, my Note 3 is still on 4.3.
Will I have to unroot my Gear before going to Tizen? Will it work with my phone even though I'm still using Jellybean?
Sent from where the wind begins....
I'm still on 4.3 and Tizen works absolutely just fine for me!
The trick to getting Tizen is flashing the first release first. Flashing the 2nd release first reports firmware encountered an error. My gear was rooted and all I did was use Odin to flash Tizen right on top of Android.
Flash this file first right on top of your rooted android. NE9

Reboot and make sure it works.
Now flash the latest Tizen release. NF1

[Q] Unable to update T-Mobile Note, Gear VR not working

I have a stock rooted T-Mobile Note 4 with TWERP recovery installed and when I attempt to set up the Gear VR I get a notice I need to do a system update. I then get a notice saying the device has been modified in an unauthorized and to try updating via kies.
Anyone know of a solution to this? I'm DYING to try the headset and am at a loss at the moment. Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

I was exactly in the same shoes. All I had to do was download Kies 3 and boom. Installed latest firmware. Good luck, it'll blow you away straight from the Intro video. I've never experienced anything like this before in my life lol.
.
Kies wouldn't work for me, had to flash the update via odin. Here's the link to the update thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2902574
Had to re-root and reinstall TWERP after, easy enough though.
So far I'm loving the VR. Pretty amazing stuff!
i had the same issue trying to download update via LTE. switched to wifi and it downloaded fine

anyone has a rooted rom working with the VR...I'm on the latest update from the t-mobile with the rooted rom... Dynamic 3.0 I'm waiting on my VR, mainly would be watching movies on it, and probably some soft-porn videos....like a stripped dance?

Some basic questions

I just purchased back after selling 2 years ago this great gadget . It has been one of my extremely rare changes of mind as i underestimated its capabilities...
I have some basic questions in case someone can give me a tip :
I now own a motorola e and have no Samsung device to pair it with , what should i do?
the watch is updated to last tizen fw via kies and is on factory reset form so i have no access to its settings
I need to make it work independantly if this is possible or via the moto e...
I also managed to flash the last tizen rom based here via the instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...evelopment/rom-tizenmod-3-0-skin1980-t2850353
my moto e is not rooted running 4.4.4..
thx for any help
On 4.4 you can still make just about everything work properly without a Samsung phone. Never tried without root tho. Your best option without rooting would be simply trying to install gear manager apps the normal way, download and install.
I have best luck with 502 version of gear manager personally, the later versions I never get to work properly. Go to this thread and grab the 502 version as well as gearmanager stub, install both and reboot. Enable bluetooth if you havent, dont connect tho, just enable then run gear manager and it should install whats needed. If it gets stuck saying connecting for longer then 30 seconds or so cancel it and it will finish installing, if not restart gear manager and it will.
On a rooted device you manually drop the files in place, set permissions and reboot then continue. It should work the same. Here is a tutorial on doing it but I don't want the un-needed crap from Samsung running on my phone so I do it the way I posted above and just download the apps I want from here. More maybe available from the galaxy store but honestly, that's enough for me and my needs.
Your other alternative is running null rom on your watch, thats based on Android, more info here. Any needed files can be found on my copy.

AT&T Tab S 8.4 - SM-T707A Lollipop upgrade released

Hey all,
Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB
manually checking shows nothing for me
Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

Not sure it will work.
Maybe try to adapt the method given by ashyx here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/guide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484
It worked successfully for me on the T800

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

Turn off automatic date and time and manually advance it by a day, and try again.
When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.
im not rooted, performed a factory reset, and my device still doesn't see any updates. Can somebody provide a link to the ROM?
Same situation here - no root, no mods, no available update

The OTA gets downloaded to /cache. If you are rooted you can see it. But the OTA is not a complete ROM, just a differential to the ROM you have.

still nothing

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

John.
After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge won't run Samsung Pay

I have this phone, an SM-G925A running Android 5.0.2, and I can't use Samsung Pay. I called Samsung about it, and they told me my phone needs an update before it'll work, but when I try checking for the latest update, my phone sits there for about 5 minutes and then it tells me that the update has been interrupted and to try again in 24 hours. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and trying the update and I get the same message.
When I was on the phone with Samsung, we went to a website that listed all the updates that have been sent out to AT&T models, and apparently mine is 4 updates behind.
My phone isn't rooted, but I don't mind rooting it. Only thing is I read somewhere that if Knox gets tripped, Samsung Pay won't work. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can update my phone to the latest OS so I can run Samsung Pay? I don't care if I need to root it, if there's an update I can load on my phone manually or what, I just want some suggestions on how I can fix this and run my phone the way it's supposed to run. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Use odin and flash the last fils (of7) , u don't need root to do that .

Or take it to a Best Buy and have the Samsung rep flash it for you.
