Has anyone used an application alled "Layar"? BRILLIANT! What it does is find the nearest search result near you and display how far you are away from it.
For example, search Macdonalds and it will search for the nearest Macdonalds and show you on a map when you point the phone camera in that direction! Brilliant if you feel lost or just want to find somewhere!!! Give it ago from the apps market.
This app has been around ages, I never found a use for it though.
There is also plenty of other apps that do just that as well

I only just got a HTC Hero G2! So still gettin used to the apps e.t.c. I think if your somewhere you don't know then this app could come in really handy.
Seems to keep crashing on BeHero 1.3.2. you load a layar then it goes to the screen where you can see through the camera and then jumps back to the layar selection screen after about 5 seconds - anyone else got that problem?

+1 on BeHero for me aswell, tested on another ROM and all was good.
using the neo rom 2.0 and it seems to crash on me as well...just me or ???
lol @ u all for having modified roms.
Layar doesn't work on the Legend (see here), so I suspect if you're using a ROM based on the Legend ROM, you'll have the same issue.

Dave
Most just cool but not useful until I recently found a layer for UK Postboxs - exact locations and when last pickup is.
can anyone confirm if this works anywhere internationally and not just uk?
Does anyoe else's tab do this
When I scroll in a webpage or app, and I stop scrolling but still have my finger pressed on the screen, the screen starts to shake a little until I move my finger again, is it just my tab or is it a common thing?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
the only thing i can suggest is that you are slightly moving your finger, its sensitive so might look like its shaking?

Mine does that too. I wouldn't be too worried about it since it only happens in the web browser for me.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Tab using XDA App
its not defective, its cause your holding your finger on it, especially in a web browser if your zoomed in a page and scroll it might happen.
its just your finger moving a tad bit that the tab senses. Also it might be catching two touch responses from your finger, not the tabs fault. Its the way you use it really.
Dont worry. The tabs touch response is pretty sensitive, which is VERY good thing trust me. Its better to be responsive then crappy on a touch tablet.
Sorry, but yes, it is a problem
I'll respectfully disagree. I have the same issue in my galaxy tab, and I've tried several others, this behavior is found in just a few.
I've made a video and a drawing test to illustrate it. I've put them in a page in a domain that I own.
(XDA still doesn't allo me to paste a link, but the address is fgfaria.com )
I've tried an app called touchscreen booster, which appeared to be appropriate from its description, but didn't notice any difference.
But there is a very intriguing point. It doesn't look like it's a hardware problem. I have installed touch test app, and with that the touch is perfect, no shaking. Also, specifically in youtube app, when scrolling the list of videos, it doesn't happen.
I need to find out why it happens pretty much everywhere, but not on youtube app and touch test apps.
Just to make it even more complex: as you'll see in the picture in the url above, towards to the right edge of the screen the problem is much lighter or doesn't happen.
If someone can help, that would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks,
Fabio
I'm getting this problem too. I get TERRIBLE shakiness when i hold finger input especially in google maps.
I highly doubt it's a hardware issue because this only started happening to me ever since i installed the italian gingerbread rom.
This this GB rom giving anyone else the same issue?
Same problem here
I am also having the same problem, installed an application called "Touchscreen Booster" but no avail.
Strange thing is that the problem seems to not happen on Youtube application.
I also have GB 2.3.3, in my case, the overcome room 2.0.0
One possible solution
Did you guys check the url I've sent? (fgfaria.com)?
Is your problem just like mine? In my case, I had the problem since Froyo 2.2, and still have it (the same way, no change) after an update to 2.2.1.
My GT is not rooted, and I'm waiting for gingerbread to be made available through Kies in Brazil to proceed with the update.
Another interesting thing is that most touch test apps behave normally (no shakiness).
Possible good news: I've found an app in the Market called "ILITEK Touch Utility".
Unfortunately I couldn't use it in my GT as it appears to require the device to be rooted. But it has several features from calibration to screen software reset. Hopefully this may help, specially as it seems to be a software issue.
Let me know if this works for you.
Regards,
Fabio
mine does EXACTLY the same thing as per your website.
the app does not seem to fix anything...
sigh...
at least good to know someone else is experiencing the same problem.
The problem is app specific
Hi all,
In addition to touch test apps and youtube app, there are some other apps that don't present the problem. One specific interesting case is the one of the HelloListView tutorial presented in Android Developers website.
I've followed the tutorial, and created this illustrative app that just creates a list and allows you to scroll up and down. This specific app doesn't present the problem we've been discussing. I've made it available for download as apk file in the end of that same testing page (fgfaria.com)
That application being so simple and not presenting the problem, and the other apps that also don't present it, makes me think that the problem may appear when some specific library gets included in an app. Possibly something related to hardware acceleration, for example (just guessing, no specific reasons to believe that).
If only we could isolate the cause of the problem, we could notify Google and/or Samsung and influence a new patch release.
This is as far as I have gone so far. Ideas, reactions?
Regards,
Fabio
Or the libraries being used in this tutorial include some kind of filter not used in problematic apps...
I posted about the same problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096698
I've included pics from my tests. Notice how before I installed the custom rom, the lines were perfectly smooth. This definitely has something to do with the software. We need to have one of the rom devs look at this and find out what might be the cause.

hi grukko, thanks for your comment!
To me, the most intriguing part is that the behavior happens in some apps, and not in other. I have done a very similar test, which I've published in the address http://fgfaria.com
As you see in the thread, the problem doesn't happen in youtube app, and screen touch test apps and in the list tutorial app I've created following instructions in Android Developers website.
Can you check if your problem is the same checking if youtube doesn't "shake"?
Thanks!
Fabio

Your test results look similar to mine. I just tried youtube and it does not shake.
New discovery:
It may be a hardware problem (at least in my case). A friend, in another forum noticed that the jittering only happens in screens with a light background, specially white.
This can be quickly tested, by opening a web page that has a white and a black part. Zooming in the white part (so that all background you see is white) and keeping the finger still, the screen starts shaking. If you move to the black part, zoom and keep you finger still, no shake at all.

Fabio
Anyone? There is a solution for Galaxy S (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844216&page=3#). There must be a solution for Galaxy Tab 7 too...
Touch screen issues
Count me as another member of the shaky touch screen club! Anyone found a resolution yet?
No luck yet. Official upgrade to Gingerbread is not yet available in Brazil. I'm waiting for this upgrade to check if things get better, but I'm not so optmistic, as I've seen reports from many people to whom the problem actually started after the upgrade. Does anyone know if the problem has already been officially reported to Samsung?
Nope. Not mine, the tab working flawlessly
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
i have the same annoying issue on my GT P1000 with gingerbread 2.3.3 Kernel: 2.6.35.7
i also have the vibration on Youtube app and any black background slightly.
Hi All,
I am very new to galaxy tab.
I am running on official gingerbread, flashed following the guidelines on the site. Other than a checksum error it went smoothly and working just fine.
I have another problem though. When I hold it in portrait mode, trying to move up and down with my finger causes the screen to shake.
Somerimes more sonetines a little less but it is always there.
In landscaepe mode it almost does not exist, working smooth.
I tried doing a lot of search but could.not find anything on it.
unfortunately I did not pay attenrion if it was hapening on stock froyo, did not stay on that long enough.
Charging or not does not affect it.
Being suspicious about screen protector I rwmoved it but no change
Did anyone else experience anyrhing similar?
Thanks in advance for help.
Same problem here
Hi, I have the same problem here, I did woked on froyo for about a day or two, and the problem was not there, I upgraded to Overcome 2.0 and the problem is now there.
Similar to you, on landscape the problem is less evident, but still there.
In my case, on you-tube application, I don't have any shacking.
I hope someone finds a solution, problem seems to be software-based.
I just checked it, you are right, youtube does not present the same problem.
Lets hope for a solution from the experts.
Cheers
anyone?
this shaking is driving me nuts......the screen shakes so much when held down down that it pretty much renders google maps unuseable.
HELP PLEASE!!!
is it a screen sensitivity issue that we can tweak or something?
i've been googling for a month for answers now but no luck...
please please...
Similar topic in XDA
Hi guys, there is a similar topic here in XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14354988&posted=1#post14354988
I have the same problem in my Galaxy Tab, and I show in a page in fgfaria.com
I now suspect it may be a deffect in some specific feature in some library used by some apps and not used in other apps.
I installed Android SDK in my PC, and created an simple app following a tutorial, with a list of countries that can be scrolled up and down. In this very simple app, the problem doesn't happen, just like youtube.
I've found an app that could potentially solve the problem, but my GT is not rooted, and can't use it. It's called "ILITEK Touch Utility" and it's available for free in Android Market.
Let me know if it's useful for any of you.
Regards,
Fabio
My tab does exactly the same thing as per your weblink.
The app i have download but once i hit the calibrate button, I somehow get denied access.
Any way around it? This shaking is getting old......sigh

Hi Chris, I believe the denied access is because the GT is not rooted. The app must need access to pretty low level adjustments, and only rooting the device would make that possible.
I have the same messages in my GT, but rooting is kind of my last option to solve this.
My current options are:
1) Wait for an official Gingerbread update
2) If that doesn't solve, I'll contact my factory warranty
3) If they deny this is a problem, or if they can't fix it, I'll try rooting and using this app
While the first option is not available, I'll continue my search for another fix.

Fabio

Another possible explanation for the problem not happening in the app from the tutorial is that libraries being used include some kind of filter not used in problematic apps...
mine shakes but not noticable,.. i didn't notice this on froyo
Hi,
Thank you all for responses. I have been searching too but did not find anything.
However I have a theory.
The screen shaking phenomenon does not happen (or unnoticably little) when you are on a dark screen. Web browser included.
Is this your observation too?
Cheers
mine do shake even if its dark, originally i found this "bug" couple of days ago, when im in bed late at night, i initially thought that the shaking was via my finger, and was surprised to see this post a while ago
Note: My tab is rooted because I'm currently running the Overcome 2.0 RC1 rom.
*major headache *
Fully agree! Mine shakes only in light background! Same problem, but in this case, it looks more like a hardware issue than software (intuitively, at least, hardware is more likely to be affected by screen luminosity than software). The solution though, could be a software filter of fast screen movements...

Anyone found a solution yet?
Has anyone tried subj with sideloaded app keeping screen on all the time. (Like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbondarchuk.android.keepscn ) ?
Would be interesting also to compare mostly black and mostly white watchfaces.
This is something that I really would like so I will try to get this to work on my Gear. I'll report back in a few days.
Thank you for sharing.

I have tried three different versions of these types of apps and none of them worked.
They either wouldn't install at all, or if they did they would immediately close saying "XYZ app has closed unfortunately.
If anybody gets one working correctly, please post the results

Did you make sure to move them over to /system/app?
Its a wishful thinking but Id love to see a MotoX style face for the watch. (Dynamic Notifications App mimics this).
The clockface would always be on and the notifications would only light up those portions of the screen and youd just touch and see what you have waiting.
Hi, I'm using a pebble classic and I want to use an app for searching my smartphone. I installed three different caller-apps on the pebble, but every app needs a companion-app for the phone. These apps should be in the playstore but don't. I guess they are to find "somewhere", but I don't know where an what the names are. Can anybody give me a hint?
Thanks for help, Manfred
no idea what version pebble classic runs but ive used github.com/C-D-Lewis/dashboard on mine and it will make a noise if its in bluetooth range via the matching app on the watch.
