Don't know if this has been discussed, but I didn't know this. I had to get a new SIM for my wife. I ordered directly through the NET10 BYOP site to make sure I got an actual BYOP SIM. Anyway, when activating\transferring her service there was a new option I'd never seen. It was $60 a month unlimited talk and text with 3.5 GB data. This means if you sign up for auto-renew you are looking at $55 for 3.5 GB of data. That is a great deal. Most prepaid plans only offer 2 GB or 2.5 GB.

Hi everyone,
Recently bought a tytn II, haven't bought a plan yet but most likely I will go with rogers...
anyone else using their phone with them? just wondering if they offered up unlimited data plans and how's the $$$$
This is my first phone so Im a total noob to this, the forums been great but I have read that some people get charged unknowingly from roaming charges.. how does this happen? Don't you only get charged if you browse the internet or send/receive email?
not to be rude but there is a rogers website. but unlimited data? hahahaha $65 for 1 GB
so which plan are you using?
right now i am using the 10MB for $5 promo they had going on a while back, but to get just regular data you need to claim to have a samsung a706 (as well for vid calling) as some reps might put u on the new windows mobile data plan which is $15 for 2 megs.
If you can make it happen then by all means get on the normal data plan and Opera Mini 4 mind you minimal browsing should be done regardless but opera gives you more bang for your buck.
If i were you, id go with Fido. Much cheaper plans than Rogers. I currently pay $18 value pack. I get Call display, Voicemail, 1,000 text msg, plus 12 MB internet plan.
Since Fido is under Rogers, you get the 3G network as well.
Hello,
I have a problem to solve, here is the situation:
next week i will go to the usa for about a month. i have an unlocked nexus one and need some data plan to connect and to use voip to call family/friends. do you know if t-mobile data plans (i want to use 3g and i think that n1 works only with t-mobile) will work with voip, or is it blocked completely?
budget: $50/month with no termination fee...
thx for all the help.
There are two versions for different radio bands, one for t-mo one for att. I don't think either provides prepaid data cards.
As evilkorn pointed out, you do need to figure out what radio bands your nexus uses.
Tmobile Radio-
If it's tmobile, then it will be fairly simple to do, but it will cost you $60 a month, with no contract. Tmobile offers two kinds of plans, one with contract, and one without. The one with no contract is called "Even more Plus". For $60 you get 500 minutes, unlimited text and 5GB of data. Here's the link: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/cell-phone-plans-detail.aspx?tp=tb1&rateplan=Even-More-Plus-500-Talk-Text-Web
AT&T Radio-
If it's AT&T, it will be tricky. You'll have to get an Ipad plan, which is $30 a month for 2GB and no contract. You then change the APN settings on your nexus to match an Ipad. Here's a link to do that: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=177297ea7cd4781c&hl=en
But to get an Ipad plan, is very tricky. You'll have to use the method suggested here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=928196
Since you aren't from the USA you'll have to go to an AT&T store to buy a SIM, instead of ordering it like they suggest.
Hope this helped and good luck!
thx for answers!
i have got tmobile freq nexus one (so it works here in europe)
shouldnt the data only plan be sufficient? tmobile's Even More Plus Smartphone Unlimited Web & E-mail or Even More Plus webConnect® Overage Free Plan? or i need to have plans with talk minutes which i dont need at all...
It appears you could use one of those (I'm on At&t and not to familiar tmobile plans), but I didn't even think about there being an activation fee. So even with the $39.99 data only plan, you would still have an additional $35 activation fee.
You could try calling tmobile and tell them your only going to be there for a month, and if your lucky they might wave the activation fee. After signing up over the phone (because there is pretty much zero chance they would do this in a store) you could then go pick up a sim in there store.
Let us know how it works out!
T-Mobile has a $40 data only plan as well.
I am trying to help a friend who recently bought a Captivate without a contract. He currently has a Go phone Sim in it but he can not use data without purchasing a data plan from what I can figure. I am used to dealing with CDMA phones and don't have a clue about anything concerning sim cards so I figured I would ask on here. I have a boosted evo that I pay $35/mo for and he came to me asking how he can get a deal like I am getting because he pays more than that for just voice and text. And he would prefer to keep the Captivate instead of getting a CDMA phone
Basically I am wanting to know if there is a prepaid GSM provider for central Illinois (or nationwide for that matter) that has an unlimited plan for talk, text, and data? From what I could find so far he would be looking at the $50 he already spends for talk and text plus another $15-25 for data depending on how much data he wants to use if he stays with the go phone sim. The phone is of course unlocked already.
He could go with Straight Talk. I purchased a reconditioned Nokia E71 from the Straight Talk website. Why a E71? most of the phones on Straight Talk pay as you go, have locked sims and phones so they wont work with another network or phone. The E71 has an unlocked sim so although the PHONE is locked and is useless without that particular sim , the sim card from that phone can be used in any phone. Cost? Forty to Fifty bucks for reconditioned Nokia E71 (don't try and sell phone. If someone else tries to activate the phone with another sim YOUR Straight Talk SIM bricks.) then the plan is fifty bucks a month for unlimited talk, text and web. He can Google Straight Talk android apn settings to get data working. Voice and texts will work immediately as soon as sim is popped into android phone.
Straight Talk now offers a plan where you buy the sim card from them. Works with most gsm phones.
Att
Hey!,
Att now has a plan that is 50 dollars a month for unlimited everything. (go phone) If he has a go phone card you might as well just stick with that!

The unlimited everything only applies to non smartphones. You will get unlimited calls and texts with this plan, but data is extra and ridiculously expensive. Go straight talk. I just switched from that plan to the straight talk unlimited plan. 5 dollars less and I get "unlimited" data.
Thats not true. I have the captivate and I have the unlimited everything plan and pay 50 dollars a month.
My vote's for Straight Talk - $45/mo. http://straighttalksim.com/ Works very well on my Captivate with CM7 though the "unlmited data" is, like everyone elses', subject to throttling. I never go past 2G though so I haven't had any troubles. The SIM cards are also available for T-Mobile phones if you get better coverage on their network.
A little confused. Given the fact we do NOT have LTE and won;t be getting it until late 2013 (or maybe don't need it) Why not just get s $50 unlimited everything GoPhone plan?
What am i missing here. I am off contract and thinking of calling ATT and putting our shared 700 min $15each MediaNet, no messaging at $100 a month on two $50 unlimited GoPhone plans. We would gain messaging and unlimited calling.....That is a huge benefit for the same money.
I don't see the disadvantage to this other than not getting subsidized phones..ATT already does not recognize our i9100s and offer the SGS II on their GoPhone site so our SIMS should work..Seems to me all ATT has to do is pull a switch and transfer out account to a prepaid account. The it would not matter which phone we use..(maybe iPhone is a no no though)
So what is the downside? We still would get the same MediaNet 3G+ data I think. IF ATT saw pour phones and changed our plan I would change anyway to the GoPhone .

Cause it looks like you have to buy a smartphone package along with it in order to have data on the phone. For 500mb a month that adds an extra $25 a month and that is the max you can get. So yeah that's probably why
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Missed that..All I saw was $50 UL Everything but did not distinguish between phones....Makes sense now. Thanks
1. Go into a TMobile store and buy the SIM prepaid activation kit They are not supposed to sell these without selling you a plan at the same time but my local mgr offered. Beg for one or order one online. If you are super desperate, buy a prepaid TMo phone and use the activation #, SIM # and the NEXUS 4 IMEI. Sell the $29 crap phone on craigslist. Cut the SIM or go into TMobile and get a new microsim for free. You could return the crap phone since they only deactivate the IMEI but thats unethical and you still need a new microsim as they must have the SIM to return the phone.
2. Activate your SIM with the $30/mo 100 minute 5GB data. You can use TMobile refill cards or credit
3. Check APN settings and enjoy
I also have a Net10 (ATT) $50/month plan w/ unlimited everything (no official details on data cap, cust service said there wasn't info or a cap).
Speed tests are around 5mbs for both providers. T-Mobile should be faster depending on the area due to network. I've seen up to 10mbs for T-Mobile. For t-mo voice use GrooveIP/Google Voice.
As for me, I'm getting a second TMo prepaid kit and paying $60 for two lines; one for Nexus 4 and one for ATT AWS modded Note 2.
Enjoy!

Net10 and Straight Talk are essentially the same company. If you call N10 support ST will answer. Figure that you will be throttled at 2GB after your first month. When you do get throttled, don't waste your time calling customer support, 45 minutes and they still don't unthrottle you. Post in the NET10 forums about slow data and you will get a response from an employee to PM them your imei and they will unthrottle you, usually in less then 10 minutes after you PM them during business hours.
Also for the TMobile sims without a contract try the prepaid webpage. You can use these for the $30/month plan.

Good on the store manager. I wasnt that lucky. Finally ordered it online.
Grr, t-mobile EDGE only in my hicktown, very fast in the state capitol. It's so cheap I think I'll keep Net10 in the Nexus4 and Tmo in the Note 2.

I was so incredibly frustrated on failing to get a SIM locally that I explored other options. My first success was buying a prepaid phone and cutting the sim, second was the T-Mobile store whom informed me that he would sell the SIM solo which is not common.
