Flash the latest SuperSU. Backup first!
http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip

That's exactly the file that i flashed to get the semi-root. Can't make changes in system with this one.

[Q] Fix Android 4.4

Alright here is the situation:
-Xperia Z with STOCK 4.4.2 update
-Locked Bootloadder without the ability to unlocked it (says it's not allowed for some reason)
-Not rooted
-No custom recovery
I want to apply this patch - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/fix-4-4-lags-xperia-z-t2767303
(Qualcomm dalvik patch)
both files are ZIP files so "flashtool" is no help.
How do I do that?
Thank you.

If you're unable to unlock your bootloader, the only way to root and install the custom recovery required to flash those files is to downgrade, unfortunately.
If you don't want to do that, you will have to wait until someone discovers an exploit to root 4.4 directly (if that ever happens).

[Q] Should I update to 5.0.2?

I just a replacement model to be able to unlock my bootloader, root, etc. I am currently on 4.4.2 and was wondering if there is a method to root 5.0.2? If so, what are the steps?

The same steps are required to root the phone on 5.0.2 as on any other version: Flash twrp recovery, flash the latest SU.

[Q] Questions about root and OTA

Hello everyone, I'm new here, my nexus 6 is on stock 5.0.1 and waiting for update to 5.1, here are my concerns.
1. How can I root my phone without unlock boot loader or flash a twrp recovery( I Know if I got a twrp recovery, I can not get OTA).
2. If I need unlock boot loader in order to root, could this affect ota?
3. If I rooted my phone, can I get ota in the future?
Thanks.

Thanks. So this means if I want to root my phone, I will have to unlock boot loader. And is there anything I can do if I want to update through OTA after I rooted and unlocked my phone?

As long as you flash the stock recovery before an ota you'll be fine
Actually any system modification including root on Lollipop will prevent an OTA so in answer to question 3, no.
Basically need to flash stock system.img, recovery.img and stock boot (if you changed the kernel).
At least thats what I'm about to do.

You have to downgrade to 4.4.4 and root then flash a pre-rooted lollipop rom using recovery.
Can't we just flash a 4.4.4 kernel that recovery, flash SuperSU and then reflash the 5.0.2 kernel? Cause I'm seriously lazy to go back to.4.4.4

Do not do this ****. Flashing an android 4.4 kernel on android 5.0.2 system is the BEST WAY to brick your phone.
Remember, always flash KEBB (Kernel, Elabel, Bootbundle and Baseband), never kernel alone : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574764
I recommand :
- Downgrade to Android 4.4.4
- Root and install XZDualRecovery
- Flash a pre-rooted Android 5.0.2 firmware
So I did this. Flashed 4.4.4 kernel with recovery. Flash SuperSU. Flash back 5.0.2 kernel from the ftf. Root doesn't seem to work. But it's there. Then I proceeded to use NUT's lockeddualrecovery installer using option 1 (rooted with SuperSU). It rebooted with root working. So yeah. That's how I rooted mt device

there might have been issues with 4.2.2 , 4.3 , but I dont think there is any issue in KitKat and Lollipop for just flashing Kernel of the same build the phone is running
and what about phones that have bootloader locked ? how can lollipop be rooted ?

Maybe you mean DRM keys.
IMEI is impossible (or almost) to lose on a Z1...
And then, no, you won't lose your DRM keys unless you unlock the bootloader.
i have rooted my z1 with the help of custom kernel. flashed ihackers kernel with recovery and installed supersu 2.46 zip in twrp and reflashed stock lollipop kernel. root works fine using titanium backup without any problem.

If you both have flashed ftf and you do not have root then first install dual recovery by selecting option 3 which will install dual recovery. Then you can flash super su zip.oh and don't forget to enable USB debugging.
Cheers

Firmware update problems after rooting

Hey , im new to rooting and the forums so sorry if somethings are not properly explained.
I recently managed to root my uk variant m7 unlocked to any service with the latest twrp recovery.
I have recently found the venom rom which i would like to install to futher customize my rooted device, but i need to upgrade my android to 5.0.2 and i am currently on 4.2.2.
in the toolbar it says 'system update avaliable' and after installing it says 'system update ready' and im guessing this will bring me to 5.0.2 firmware. after clicking on it it reboots my phone and for some reason enters the recovery. from this point i do not know what to do.
so to summarise, i need to upgrade my m7 from 4.2.2 to 5.0.2 nut when i do it enters my twrp recovery and i do not know what to do
system details:
HTC One M7 UK variant unlocked to any service
rooted with SuperSU
Stock rom (4.2.2)
Stock kernel
Thanks

You can't update your phone in its current status. You need stock recovery installed, unmodified /system files and /data/preload which is deleted during the htcdev bootloader unlock process. You'll probably need to use a RUU or something else.

Unfortunately, this is not really relevant info, post the output of "fastboot getvar all" command, remove your IMEI # before posting.
so i have to unroot my phone
great this is going to take a while :/

A factory reset only wipes user data. Root files are stored in /system partition which is not affected by a factory reset so short answer no, like I said you'll probably need a RUU or something else (stock odex rom/nandroid backup/guru reset rom) to reset your phone back to stock. Post the output of "fastboot getvar all"

Its possible to download the update elsewhere and install it through twrp recovery?
If yes, where i can find these updates in zip form?
If not, what's the simple option to install the update?
thanks

If your phone is S-off, you can download the Ota zip files and install them incrementally (can't skip a version) using stock recovery. That doesn't change the fact that all files in /system and /data/preload must be unmodified.
Imo, the simplest way to update if your phone isn't stock is with a RUU. If your phone is stock, reflash stock recovery and update with Ota, if it's stock and soff you can update with Ota zip files if you can find all the ones you need.
