Hey everybody,
I recently upgraded my Galaxy S2 for a Xperia Z. I am currently running CM11 KitKat after a complete wipe and clean install. The OS works fine and very smooth, no bugs except for one thing: My sound playback sometimes lags with a disturbing, scratching sound. At first I thought my sound files might just be corrupted, but the problem persists no matter what type of playback I am using (Playback from SD, playback from internal SD, and music streams), they all seem to have the same problem.
Does that sound familiar to any of you? Any suggestions what I might try short of a full wipe? Thanks!

Happen to me too. Maybe u should ask those at FXP / CM team.. they know better
This issue seems to be on most kk ROMs based on cm or aosp. However, there seems to be a fix but haven't seen any improvements in the roms I've flashed. Pretty disappointing because audio is a huge part of my daily phone usage.
Do you remember what the bugfix was? Or along what line? Maybe I can find out more with a less generic search term then "my audio sucks, and so does yours"

has anyone found a solution yet I really need one.
hey! mate try this ROM.... i just flashed it and it's awesome...
http://www.blinkenlights.ch/ccms/android/yuga.html
tb\his doesnt have the issue as the 4.3 blobs have been merged... and the battery life is like Awesome..... Awesome....
I have the same problem on both CM11 as well as Omni Rom and even the infected version of both. Could it be related to an app or something? I've just experienced this a week ago or something like that. Also happens on videos (YouTube, MX player) and is really annoying over time, especially when everything else is blazing fast without lag.

Would help to know what ROM you are running.
Sound glitches have been fixed in the latest official and unofficial nightly ROMs. You either have not updated or you have one of those devices thats just gonna have issues with android (battery, sound and wifi are the most common)
None of this is new info. Please search the thread for whatever ROM you are using. If no audio fix is mentioned then you need to change ROMs. Once again you use the SEARCH function to find what you need seeding as audio issues are common

Im using the official nightlty from june 18th
There's always been sound problems. They are slowly getting better. A new one I'm dealing with is the infamous 'Machine Gun' sound.
Also, as I run apps for extended periods of time (such as Cut the Rope, or Apollo), the sound will start to get muffled. A solution I use is to close the app, and try reopening it.
A small gripe.

Do you have an explanation or link to a thread with an explanation as to why some devices are just gonna have issues and others won't? Part of me thinks / hopes its just because things are still a work in progress. I have no issues at all with spotify..crystal clear. But then some games like magic piano are horrendous..and other games like mini motor racing only have some popping in the main menu..game play is fine.

the cm9-based roms' (owain, nova, pandroid) sound is EXTERMELY small and broke that even l can't hear the sound
except incall sound and earphone sound (i mean while i jacking my earphone, earphone works fine)
i don't know the reason but i'm sure this isn't any installing problem
CM9 ROM for O2X tend to have lower volume than stock, but not so low as to be complained. I have tried all ROM above and never experienced that.
Maybe something is wrong in your configurations..maybe some app is limiting it.
Or it maybe hardware problem of your speakers!! If you still have warranty, contact the supplier. (Flash stock ROM/unroot before that!!)

Have you checked it after wiping everything and flashing the ROM but without restoring the data? It can be some of you setting that makes sound off, and that specific setting data is recognized in Domination, nova, paranoidandroid but not in stock and other CM9 kangs.
Its a weird problem as actual sound drivers have nothing to do with ROMs. And there is no similar complain in ROM thread either. I guess you just have to work with working ROM and try above ROMs after they get an upgrade.
i have noticed the same. early builds of cm9 the sound was fine (unlocking screen selection etc).. the further on we have got the sound seems to be getting quieter.. only fix i seen was in qwians builds they had a system volume slider in sounds this helped alot with sound. not as good as stock but better than normal cm9..
hope this helps
Im experiencing quite the opposite, cm9 roms seems to have louder sounds compared to cm7.
Sounds issue i facing sometimes my phone speaker just dead in some sense that i play music and sound altough is play but no sound at all

You should try changing rom, I can not say this for sure as I never tried Jellybeer, but I can recommend flashing Paranoid Android by Utacka. It's smooth and works for everyday use.

Hello everybody,
I updated my Xperia Z 3 days ago. Everything was perfect, until I plugged my KossPorta Pro headphones in and played some music (I am using PowerAmp player). I noticed sound is now more distorted, less enjoyable and less crispy. Last 4.1.2 update .307 had better sound. I am not sure about stock player cause I am using PowerAmp for Bass and Treble EQ and better customization, but anyway I never ran into problem with poor quality sound on my Xperia Z until 4.2.2 update. I tried everything (factory reset, wipe everything, other update versions) but still same. I am quiet dissapointed, good quality music is very important for me.
Somebody with same problem?
Any suggestion?
I don't have the same problem. Have you tried other head-ear phones?
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
I tried, but quality was same. :L Btw, I downgraded yesterday back to .307 and sound was great. I went again to 4.2 and but nothing was changed, poor quality again. I really like 4.2 update but sound is important for me
No audio libraries are changed due the update, you're imagining the changes
Sent from my Xperia Z
I carefully checked sound quality between 4.1 and 4.2 and there IS difference. Anyway, do you think there is problem with PowerAmp player?
I use stock Walkman and FM radio - no discernable difference between builds.
Maybe it's PowerAmp issue then. It's driving me crazy to be honest..

Hi,
I had AICP 1708 installed an from one day to another there was no sound anymore. No music playing, no calls (mic isn't working, too), no sound at all. The music player crashes when I want to play a mp3 file.
I already went back to sony stock rom and did full wipes and clean flash of AICP and CM 12.1, but no changes.
Has anyone an idea if it could be a hardware issue? But why is the music player closing with " An unknown error has occurred: 1 "
Thanks in advance

Try flashing stock again, then see if it's fixed.
and if one music player doesn't work, try another one.
If it still doesn't get fixed, it's probably a hardware issue.
Tried that already, no sound...perhaps speaker is broken. Is the mic also Brocken when the speakers are broken?
YouTube doesn't play movies at all, only a error message...
Could a logcat help to find the Problem?
Thanks

May I know if in Stock ROM the sound is okay?
Sure, sorry...
These was no sound in stock, too...so I think speaker is dead.
The strange thing is, that every player which should play mp3 files crashes...only MX player is able to play movies, but without sound...

I once faced errors with audio too once, but I find out that my audio cable is not connected. But this is because I did a disassembly. And probably i didn't connect it properly. Have you recently disassemble the Xperia SP?
If you have the guts, you might want to disassemble the Xperia SP and reseat the audio cable and the speaker cable.
No, haven't opened the device yet, but it fell down in the carpet a week ago. But audio worked...
But ai could give it a try and have a look at the cables inside

If you are going to try then here is the animation video that I refer to when I am doing the disassembly: https://youtu.be/NPlbQ_KGPuA
Also, please quote my posts, otherwise I will not see it. Yes I didnt see your post, but thankfully when I read the Q&A subforum I saw this thread has unread posts. lol
