Hello,
Recently, I've tried to flash my phone with CM11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587481 ), but it got into a bootloop, showing the CM logo with the circling arrow. So, I tried flashing another ROM, still bootloops. Stock ROM, bootloops.
I tried to reformat everything, but formatting in /data and formatting in /sdext comes up with an error:
Code:
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/stl13
Error formatting /data!
Code:
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Error formatting /sd-ext!
The Dalvik cache won't wipe either, trying to wipe it the screen just flashes slightly and the menu pops back up without a message, implying the Dalvik cache just doesn't exist anymore, I think.
I've googled this situation, browsed the forums for a while, but no one seems to have had this problem, at least no one I know of. There was someone on a HTC One, who claimed that it might've corrupted his partitions and that he had to fix it with ADB. I have no idea how ADB works.
Another option that pops up everywhere without explanation is "Use Odin to flash stock ROM" . I tried that, but Odin doesn't detect my phone, and windows gives an error that the device is unrecognized.
Does anyone have any idea what to do? I am at a loss here. The things I've tried, summarized:
I tried flashing several other ROMs, including stock.
I tried reformatting /data and /sdext, which both gave errors.
I tried reformatting the dalvik cache, but it didn't do so, without giving any message.
I tried flashing stock with Odin, but couldn't, since Odin didn't detect my phone.
I flashed CWM again, without success.
I tried searching for similar problems, but no one seems to have them.

Flash back cwm5....then wipe/data reset and flash any other rom cm7/9/10/10.1/10.2...cwm 6.0.4.2(something like that) is a must for flashing cm11 which won't allow flashing other versions except cm11...

That's the whole thing. Wiping data doesn't work, and flashing any other rom keeps the bootloop there.

Version is 5.0.2.6.
Reflashing CWM and installing CM10 was the first thing I tried, I'll do it again right now to see if it makes any difference.
Update: After a really glitchy screen popup and the screen turning a bright lightblue color, I got stuck in the CM9 boot animation.

Have you flashed cm11 using cwm 5?
Better Flash stock rom using recommended odin version. Use windows 7 and Install samsung usb drivers or kies(don't run kies)...check your usb cable if it doesn't detect even after these steps..be cautious...don't brick your phone..

Yeah, I flashed CM11 using CWM 5. I'll see if it can detect my phone after I installed Kies. I tried installing standalone USB drivers first, but it didn't give any installation window. I'll try Odin again after that, and I'll give you word when I did it.
UPDATE: Odin now doesn't detect my phone at all anymore. Can't flash stock rom via Odin. I'll try my laptop now.
You cannot flash cm11 using cwm5, you need cwm6 to flash it(is it maclaw cm11)...grab a pc running windows 7, install kies, get odin 4.38 and cooper.ops files and your conutry's stock rom, goto download mode, flash it..follow a sticky thread in your ace section...even if it doesn't detect your phone, try opening odin with administrative permissions....even after this doesn't help check your cable, might be a faulty one....last option- goto samsung service center

I think our stories are crossing each other a bit here.
At first I tried to flash CM11 with CWM5, which caused the bootlooping to happen. After that, I could not format /data, /sd-ext or the dalvik cache. Now, I cannot flash ANYTHING without entering a bootloop, and Odin does not recognize my phone at all. Tried three cables, another additional computer running 7, it just won't show up. Gave a call to service center, said they won't be able to help me, since it's been over three years since I bought it, which sounded a bit weird.

In my run to restock my Tab after trying CM9 on MTD so that I could do a full wipe and reset to see if I could clear up the problem I had with the unit not going to sleep I ran into an issue.
I screwed up the the reflash with Overcome, which ended up with a probably partial formatting to EXT4 on the /system partition.
Currently I can get to download mode and boot into recovery and it will respond to ADB commands and Odin says it's flashing when I try to send it images. I've attempted to reflash Overcome from scratch and see if it would format the /system partition but it still just hangs on the boot screen.
In Recovery I can't mount /system or /cache.
Is there a way to format the partitions in this state so I flash the ROM and Kernel?

First thing I tried.
Well crap. So I tried it again for giggles even though I tried it yesterday thinking that was my best bet since it was responding in Download and Recovery. And bloody thing flashed and started working.
Well cheers for making me do the thing again.
There you have it.
As long as you can go to download mode, it is always good to try and retry.
glad it works.

Did you performed Full Wipe on ICS Stock Rom ? If so then its unfortunate to say your note might be bricked.
I advise u stop flashing stuff when you clearly don't know what your doing.

It is not a good sign. Looks like a case of superbrick to me due to emmc bug. Probably will need repartition with custom pit or adb.

Hi guys,
I normally try and work this stuff out for myself (as you can tell by my join date and my post count) but this has me stumped..
I was attempting to change ICS rome and somewhere in the process something went wrong...
After many unsuccessful attempts of flashing, stock ICS & GB, Abyss.. I checked the partions for errors and found the actual size of p-10 was different than the reported size by 1kb.
So, tried the e2fsck fix- it reported that it had corrected some errors.. I tried flashing again and agin- no success.
I then deleted the partitions, recreated them and reformatted in CWM. ADB reports no errors on any partition. When I try to load an ICS rom, it installs then hangs when it gets to the screen where you select the language.
I can successfully install a GB rom, but after a couple of minutes I start getting errors- then the affected app closes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Which ics rom were you on originally before you tried flashing to which ics rom? Did you perform any wipes while on ics? Does sound like you have a good understanding of emmc bug and partitioning so forgive me if this all seems mundane.

Hi,
Well i was trying to rooting up my phone for trying out Cynogenmod 9 (ICS 4.0) .....
The files i transferred to the sd card :
1.) recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix
2.) upd_1
As instructed on tutorial guide... first i installed clockwork 5.... its done without any errors.... after that i tried "upd_1", which aborted installation with some "(status 7)" error..... after that i rebooted cell and gone for factory reset..... after that my ace got stucked up on boot loop screen.... cant go any furthur..... same step repeats many many times..... but no result......
I tried 2 guides....
1.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
2.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552695
I'll appreciate any help regarding my boot loop problem.....
Thanks & Regards
Status 7 error relates to errors in updater script,it should not have been ignored like that.Furthermore,upd_1.zip is a root package for GB roms, not ICS roms,so wrong bin file there. Can you get to download mode? Or,atleast recovery?
Same problem
Hi I have the same problem just keeps cycling through the Samsung boot screen on a loop. I can get into Download mode and also I can boot into recovery. I downloaded a stock rom S5830XWKPN_S5830SWKP6_S5830XEUKP1_HOME Then I used odin 4.38 and clicked on OPS and used cooper_v1.0.ops and then clicked on one package and clicked on the zip of the stock rom I downloaded. Everything seemed to go well, but then the phone got stuck on this loop of the Samsung boot screen. I hope that you can help please.
Best regards Wez

Make a wipe in standart or full wipe in custom and flash again with odin! It will surely help

Is the phone bricked? I have tried using packages from Odin and One Click Unbrik but they both fail, I can get into download mode, but I cannot get into recovery mode. It just says ARM9 or something whenever I try. Is there a solution yet?
i fixed my phone i kept on having boot loops after falshing single packing so i turned the phone off then hold power and home till you come to recovery option wipe cache and i think its factory reset or full wipe so do both wipes then reboot phone WALA my phone was working hope this helps and dont forget to tick thanks button :good:
boot loop with other issues too...
hi there guys. I'm new to this forum and also to flashing...
but anyways I had a good look before flashing my phone but still messed it up...silly me
I tried rooting my phone via SD card(first clockwork mod ace 4 followed by clockwork mod 5 as said in tutorial) then upd_1 and then cm9. But after installing clockwork mod ace 4 I get :" E: failed to mount/ system (invalid argument)" same happens when trying to wipe cache partition/ data/ factory reset.
I can get into android system recovery no problems and also into odin download mode (where it gives you the warning and prompts you to press volume up if you still want to continue. It is also stuck on the samsung screen if I don't press anything.
But when trying to connect the phone to odin in order to rectify what I've done (with the one package methode, either gingerbread or cmw9) odin won't detect my phone. I used several different cables, original samsung cables, changed usb ports (directly off the motherboard) but to no avail.
heimdall will recognise the phone as far as I can see (when you click on detect device it says: "device detected") but I cannot find the right files I need to use for heimdall. I would very much appreciate any help and advice. Please point me in the right direction, show me where to download the correct files and which ones and please bear in mind I'm a noob. put it as plain as bread for me please :good:
just flash clockworkmod 5 and format system and data...
do a complete wipe ...clear cache,, wipe dalvik
then mount system and data and install any of ur modded stock or cm7... enjoy
---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------
many roms are pre rooted plus u dont need rooot access to flash rom
to flash CustomROM u dont need to root first our ace simply flash CWM 5 and put your CustomROM flashable .zip to your sdcard and then fullwipe (data, cache, advantage) and done.....
most of CustomROM now can directly flash from previous or Other CustomROM without flash to StockROM first..

Guys I really need your help.
After "succesful" flashing the official German ICS 4.04 ROM with PC odin I can't start up my Note again. It hangs at the bootscreen.
I can still get into downloadmode, can flash all the ROMS with PC Odin succesfull but after booting it gets stuck at the bootscreen.
I can also still go to recovery, wipe data and cache but after rebooting it always stuck on the bootscreen.
If I go to recovery I see the errormessage:
E: failed to mount data <invalid argument>
E: copy_log_files_to_data : : can't mount /data
In recovery i can still root my phone and flash Abyss kernel. Also with the Abyss kernel i can flash al ROMS succesfully but they all stuck at the bootscreen when i reboot.
Does somebody know how to fix this problem?

You are not supposed to do wipes running stock ICS kernels. GB kernels such as abyss are the only safe ones (to avoid the Emmc hardbrick bug)....If I were u I would try to flash a stock firmware with odin.
If you get stuck and nand write or factorys.img then u are bricked....:crying:

And yiu have error on data partition rather than system rom.partition so u cud flash successfully non wipe ROM, but if you try flashing wipe ROM then it won't compete. So.if your device is under warranty then send it to service centre. Confirm you have flash countwr zero to.reclaim warranty.

My flash counter is on 1. I have the Chainfire triangle away, but that's an APK and I don't know if I can flash that. Other problem I have is that the shop I bought my Note is bankrupt so I don't know what to do for warranty. Do you know if there is a Triangle away file I can flash?
If it it is not booting then it won't work.
You will.need jig .

Check that cwm you are using is for galaxy ace.
If is for ace still not working then Try latest CWM version..

This problem is caused by updating recovery to 6.0 by Shaan.
Noticed that this problem is not just for me. It's widespread now. Next try would be to flash recovery gamma tar from odin.

i tried flashing recovery gamma tar using odin, but again the same problem.
it flashed perfectly using odin but on trying to go d recovery mode, it gets stuck on d galaxy ace screen.
i think my phone's recovery files have been corrupted.
Is there any way in which i can add a new recovery file or something like that??

Heyyyy Rishal try the cwm-recovery-ace.tar.md5 file from this thread. Flash from odin
Tried.. But still no result.. Same problem..

Flashing through odin deletes every single file on your phone. So there is no chance that CWM 6 causes this. Also i don't think the problem is widespread!
If you can get me a logcat and dmesg i might be able to help..

Sorry if my post ever offended you. It's just because the whole issue started after flashing cwm6. Im glad you are happy to help. During which process do i need to get a logcat? While booting into recovery?(haven't tried getting a logcat of a boot process before)
Yes. Flash the recovery. Boot to recovery and grab a logcat as well as a dmesg.
Pastebin both. And don't worry. I don't get offended easily!

Hey Rishal flash stock recovery from this thread
And bring the zip for cwm 6 tomorrow.PLS
i flashed CWM 5 using odin, but that also gave the same problem.
Is there any stock recovery that i can flash using "odin"?
Aditya: u gave d link of stock recovery which has to be flashed using other recovery modes, which is not possible in my case as the other recovery modes r not working.
Try deleting all except recovery.img from stock rom.tar file

Its not possible to delete files directly inside a .tar file.
i have to extract the recovery.img and then change it to .tar file.
i flashed that file using odin but it stopped suddenly giving me a yellow triangle error because of which i had to reflash again.
now i have the stock recovery working again.
I am facing a similar issue. Please do post your solution here if anything at all works
That wasn't the right way to do it. Download total commander and then remove other files from stock rom.tar file WITHOUT EXTRACTING. Did u renamed the recovery.img to recovery.tar and then flashed as one file in Odin???
Another way is to push recovery.img through adb.

Could you please elaborate the problem you face and how it all started in the first place?
Since we were facing constant reboot into recovery problem, we flashed stock Rom entirely through Odin to get back stock recovery. However flashing any version of cwm would make the problem resurface. The only cwm recovery that works is cwm6 by shaan. Confused why??

Since the CWM 6 by shaan is working, i tried to install a zip through it. the zip was successfully.
but on switching on the phone, it gets stuck on cynogenmod screen(not the samsung screen)
The reason is that i cannot wipe data/cache.
on doing a factory reset, the log is something like:
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Error mounting /cache!
Skipping format...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs fa(the next thing is out of the screen) ...block/mmcblk0p2
formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure (something-something)
Data wipe complete
So this means that there is some problem with the cache, data mounting..
I also tried to mount cache and data using mounts and storage but it shows cannot mount cache and data respectively.
P.S.: Every time i get into recovery or flash something an error like this comes at the bottom:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
So there is some recovery file in the /cache folder which is causing some problem
(recovery working is a progress. thanks adityabhagat95.)

My phone was running 2.2.1 Froyo. I tried to upgrade it to 2.3.6 using process mentioned here. http://androidadvices.com/update-galaxy-ace-s5830-official-gingerbread-236-xwktm-firmware/
The Odin completed successfully and restarted the phone. But the phone was running spanish language. I was getting an alert after every 3-4 seconds. But i could not read it as it was spanish. I restarted the phone and it went in boot loop. The phone keeps rebooting every 2 seconds.
I can't get into recovery mode but I can get to download mode.
I have tried flashing many ROMs from sammobile.com but none of them is working.

Is reboot into recovery working? If yes (don't tell me the problem is solved), in recovery format cache and data thru mount and storage option. (Maybe the data and cache partition are still using rfs. ) tell me if it works!

Flashing a STOCK Rom from Odin must not cause a bootloop. Reflash the stock Rom from recovery (again )and then reboot into STOCK recovery to wipe data ( factory reset or whatever its addressed as).
Yes I can reboot into recovery, but I dont think the problem is solved or else the other recoveries would also work (its just a progress)
I tried to format data, cache, system but all of them failed as it was unable to "mount" the respective folders.
I did not try d format sd-ext, as I thought it was not required...
There is surely some problem with d cache, data or system files...
