Their hearing you is the mic, not the speaker. I wouldn't fool with it, I'd bring it to a DSC (if your local store isn't one, ask where the nearest one is) and ask for an exchange if they can't fix it there (which they probably won't even try).
Make sure you have EVERYTHING backed up - all you'll get back are your SIM, your SD card and your battery. You'll have to reinstall everything.
(This is the kind of bug that limits the lifespan of a firmware developer to about 25 years, after which he turns into a tree and refuses to accept mental pain any more. Or there's a timer in your phone that shoves a sound insulator into the mic after it's been on for 2 seconds. Thinking this way is WHY firmware developers refuse to think after a while.)

Before I go ahead and void my warranty...

I've had my AT&T banded N1 (with Rogers in Canada) for nearly 2 weeks now and I've been waiting to make sure everything works properly before I potentially give up my warranty by unlocking it. One thing that has been bugging me though is the call quality.
Everyone raves about how clear the call quality is on these things, but based on my phone I don't really agree. When no one is talking the line is dead silent (so silent that I almost think that the call has dropped), but when the other person begins to talk a light static or crackling background noise starts and once they finish talking it goes away and is completely silent again. If the static was there all the time I might not even notice it, but since it stops and starts during pauses in the conversation it really stands out. This happens on both the handset ear piece and with the headphones that came with the phone.
Has anyone else noticed this? If it's normal so be it, but if not then I might as well try and get it fixed before I do anything.
I don't have the at&t version but that does not sound normal.
Crackling is normally a sign of a speaker problem but I wouldn't think the headphones would also produce it.
seems i have the same issue...
i havent noticed any noise like this, but i will go test it and see if i have it too.
It's the speaker, for some reason the Nexus One comes with a slightly-too-loud speaker volume setting built in and you need to turn the incall volume down one notch from max. At least that solved my problem, hope this works for you!
have just called Google Tech Support and the guy suggested me to blow into the earphone couple of times and see if it helps
if not, do a hard reset
if not, call for warranty...
Since I get this noise in both the handset and ear phone speakers at all volumes I have to assume the problem is with my radio.
It's too much of a pain to get warranty work done outside of the US so I'm just going to learn to ignore it.

[Q] Crackling from earpiece speaker

Hi,
Anyone has encountered crackling in the earpiece ? I am getting it everytime I place a call the moment I press the call button.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers

I was going to make the same question but found your post.
I recently bought two galaxy S and one of them has a problem with the earpiece: when making a phone call there is a crakling sound (like an interference or electric spark). This does not happens all the time and it is very low but when it starts usually it continues into the conversation and sometimes can be quite anyoing.
I realized this because I have two phones at home and becasue I test every bit of hardware of them , in order to exchange the phone asap if I found a hardware problem.
Maybe this is a common fault: take you SGS, make a phone call and listen very carefully to the earpiece before the rigntones start. Do you hear anything? I can hear a soft crakcling or pure silent depending which pnone I use.
As it is now, it is not a big deal but I am worried the crakling sound would increases in the future. Do you think I should try to exchange/fix my phone now that it is on warranty and I have not root, mod, etc..?
I got mine fixed by Samsung service. Replaced motherboard.

Any way to shut off Noise-Reduction while call with speaker

Hello folks,
i purchased a Note 9 and I am getting in trouble because I cannot use the phone as i used to do before. When I have a call with someone and I use the speaker for free-speaking (or the usage of a car-mount in combination of the headphone jack connected to car while driving) the in-built noise-reductions destroys nearly every call. People cannot hear me correctly, because the noise-reduction is so hard, that it cut offs a lot of the words I speak. The result is, that people cannot understand me.
I contacted Samsung for this and they verified that this is a common thing for samsung phones, because their intelligent noise-reduction should turn out every other sound - sadly it also removes the own sound. I can only speak with speaker mode, when the phone is on my desk or in hand and there is no noise. Even when I have the phone in the sink while washing my hands (common corona-stuff) people cant here me correctly anymore due the filter of the water-noise.
Samsung has no option to turn off this "feature" and the mic works perfectly for recording audiologs or whatsapp-voice notes.
So my request now is: Is there any way to get rid of this noise-reduction-feature while in Call?
I could imagine that maybe root gives access to this function or maybe also a custom rom. Can anybody help me with this and giving me a good answer ?

Question Zenfone 8 problems with speakerphone during phone calls

Hi,
Has anyone have such problem with speakerphone during phone (or whatsapp/viber etc) call that
All MIC's passes tests OK, record and then play my voice very well and loud.
But when I call someone or someone call to me and I active speakerphone to put phone away from my ear - there are mess like echoes, some robotic voice like signal excitation and interference started each time for person on the other end of the line. Person hears himself more often than my voice. So it's impossible to talk normally on speakerphone. I hear companion very good, but for him it's mess. But if I deactivate speaker and use earphone (in front of my ear) - then everything is ok for me and person on the line.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Problem persists on each FW which means that problem is hardware. I checked all mics in ,12345+= test utility. Every single microphone is ok. But it seems that when they work together - sometihng is going wrong. There are 3 mic's in this phone. First one is located on board 90AI0060-R10010 (bottom left corner), and this part can be replaced, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Second one is located in top upper part on main board and it looks like it can only be repaced by replacing motherboard which is cost a lot of $$$ which is not acceptable for devices not covered by warranty anymore (unlocked BL). Third mic installed on board 90AI0060-R10020 under back cover (where rear camera is located) and also can be replaced, price about 10USD.
But where is controller/unit which operate by these mic's?
Is there anyone who has or had such problem? What part(-s) were replaced is service under warranty?
Hi
I hat similar problems. I tried a lot of adjustments at the apps and the phone. Set the phone to factory settings. Nothing helped. Even the upgrade to Android 12 didn't change anything. Finally I sent it for warranty repair to Asus workshop and now I am waiting to get it back. Hopefully tomorrow I can tell you the result.

Ok, please also let me know (if possible) what part(-s) will be replaced.
There are 3 microphones in our phone. And I guess two of them are operate during phone calls on speaker. Main mic on sub-board which is located at the bottom of phone and second one - noise-canselling MIC which is located on motherboard (top part of phone).
Hi, today I've got it back. The workshop protocol says they made a firmware reset (same I already did before and told them). And the result is, the fault is still the same. This was second time I sent it for repair. First time the WLAN module broke down. They changed the motherboard and after getting it back from the asus workshop the the speakerphone function didn't work any more. You can see, there are absolutely specialist at work.

Low front speaker volume during call and test SM-N950F

Hi,
I have a Note 8, now about 4years old. I began having issues with front speaker during calls about 2 years ago -about 2 months before warranty ended. First it was intermittent, about every 20calls, the speaker was so quiet, if I had aircon working, I could not hear anything.
During a period of about a year, it came so far that every call is problematic. I had a company phone with 2SIM so I put both in and I was ''happy''. BUT STILL MY 1000€ phone had speaker problems after 2-3years.
Now I got around - read got time to tinker - to fixing this issue and get my nice powerfull phone back in use.
As I was not to carefull with water (rain drops) on my phone - its IP67 or68 even - my first thought was that the speaker got wet. I ordered China replacement and bought 5pcs just to be sure one will definitly work.
Tried it with all 5 pcs + original and resault was the same. LOW volume. Yes I checked the contacts and cleaned them but no oxidation or any other clear issue with the HW.
I started googling for the problem and found that this was a problem on Samsung phones, though ''very'' rare. Solutions were usually in the line of restart/farctory reset/check settings of the phone and it will be OK. Tried factory reseting/settings.. and no luck, still have the problem.
Now I found a site with info on how to get inside Diagnostic SW in the phone. Got inside, tested and result was low volume.
I also found some info, that if the top mic had dust in the hole, the noise cancelation did somehow lower the output volume on the front speaker - not sure if this is legit info, I don't see how noise cancelation could interfere with received sound output. Just to be on the stupid safe side I removed the protection film on the case for the mic and cleaned it. No affect.
Now I do not know where to turn, if this is a SW or HW issue. I will be calling the Samsung distributor in my country tomorrow to ask what would be the solution, but from my previous experiance I am predicting the response - no solution or your motherboard needs replacing with cost of about 500€.
Just to get the idea how low the volume is - My wife and I bought same phone on same day, so I have a good comparison. Yes she does not have any issues and no I will not open her phone to check for my ''dead'' speaker funcitonality.
If I call the phones and put her on lowest sound setting, mine is still about 30% lower with setting to max. This result is same either phones are in same room or in different rooms - just to be sure the noise cancelation is not interfering.
Do you guys have any ideas/experiences with this issue? How did you fix it?
If you suggest reflash the phone, where can I find original ROM?
Hope you guys can help me.
Thanks.
