Do you have custom recovery, like twrp installed? If so flash this
https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z12uvzfjetqqfx4jl04cjl1aoor5ezninhc

So I'm completely stock. I used to be rooted but I was wondering if it's still the same process such as unlocking boot loader and installing a custom recovery?

How do I put a new rom on the HTC One?

With the GS2 I just got the file, put it on Odin and it was done so I have no clue about HTC phones. My phone is unlocked but has my networks firmware on it and I cannot update to newer firmware unless I get the stock firmware I'm guessing. So I'm just wondering where I can get that and how I do it?
Thanx.

Just about everything on htc phones is done through custom recovery.
If you have bootloader unlocked the you will need to flash a custom recovery I recommend twrp. After that just make a backup then download and flash a rom.
You can download and flash roms with just the phone no computer needed once you have the custom recovery

No I mean my network doesn't lock the phone but you get their firmware which is annoying. I have no idea how to check the bootloader, never even heard of one before, everything was much easier with Samsung lol.

Custom ROMs are tweaked so more than likely it will be snappier and more battery efficient compared to stock ROMs. Also some custom ROMs have different themes, wallpaper or look than a stock ROM. The only ROM I know that doesn't have ANY visual changes is ARHD ROMs by mike1986.

You need to flash a custom recovery to be able to flash a custom ROM. Read the guide that was mentioned a couple of post above. The steps år basically like this.
Unlock the bootloader through the HTCdev website
Flash a custom recovery
Make a nandroid backup of your stock rom from recovery
Download and copy a custom ROM zip to the SD card
Flash the custom ROM from recovery
No, Samsung was not any easier to modify . I have rooted and modified several devices from both Samsung and HTC. You just have to learn the steps.

[Q] HTC GPE can't update to 4.3. Status 7 error

Guys,
My HTC ONE Google Play Edition received the 4.3 update notification, but when I tried, it gave me a status 7 error and refused to install the update. How can I solve this? I'm using stock kernel, CWM recovery, and it's rooted.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for reply!! May I know how I can restore both the recovery and ROM to the default one? Should I follow this?

You have to flash only the stock recovery and relock the bootloader
And yes, use that guide.
After the update will be installed

Thanks guy!! I will check the post thoroughly later. However, just one more quick question. Since my device is an original GPE, it looks like all I have to do will be just a fastboot flash recovery & fastboot oem relock? Seems like from that guide, most steps prior to these commands are needed to turn a normal HTC ONE into a GPE one. Am I understanding correctly here?
Thanks again.
Relocking boot loader not necessary. My boot loader is unlocked.

Is better if the relock isn't necessary
Guys, thanks for you guys help. I've stocked it back to stock recovery, and have the bootloader locked back. Now when I start the phone, the little lock isn't shown anymore. However, I'm still having 2 issues here.
1) The 4.3 update isn't there anymore!! It doesn't come back even I did a clear cache/force close on the Google Services Framework.
2) It's still showing my phone is still tampered. I booted into the recovery, and it's now the stock one. Is that normal?
Thanks.
Normal because you're rooted
Thanks guy!! I could upgrade successfully.

[Q] got a new VZW Moto X - root first or OTA to 4.4 then root?

Hi All,
I just got a new X yesterday and it's running 4.2.2. I heard there's a root method for 4.4 so I'm wondering if it's better to root now, then flash a stock 4.4 ROM or take the OTA to 4.4 and then root?

Does this guide work for the Verizon moto x? In step one it seems to imply that it only works for Sprint and AT&T. I apologize if this is a dumb question however I just want to make sure before I start.
Thanks

Thanks for putting that together dray; I had one question about installing TWRP. It seems like this is the case based on the instructions, but I wanted to be sure, is it OK to install the twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img even though I am running 4.2.2?
I have my bootloader unlocked already (VZW DE and gone through that process via adb) and have been trying to figure out which custom recovery to flash.
TIA

did you get the twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img to flash successfully on 4.2.2 on your Dev edition?
I used mfastboot to flash it and when I try to go to recovery it just boots to Android/

Yeah, as dray_jr mentioned, after you flash it, you have to select recovery rather than rebooting.
This video also helped me (youtube.com/watch?v=sw675ipX-ds) (I don't have enough posts to hyperlink).
I actually followed the video but dray's instructions are the same process.

Desire 628 hboot or hosd needed

Hello everyone. I'm attempting to assist @arindambag recover his device from a soft brick.
If anyone with a rooted Desire 628 (2PVG) could provide a dump of their hboot or hosd, it would be greatly appreciated.
The version doesn't matter. It is only needed to generate a key file for the RUU extraction tool.

It seems that some people were able to root with Kingroot on the originally released rom, but, as far as I know, there's no way to root yet after updating.
With no custom recovery (yet), root will not be possible unless another vulnerability is discovered.

Then is there any process to go back to the original rom? I mean revert this update? If we flash the original stock rom before update? Then we will be able to root it with KingRoot

If you can s-off, you should be able to use any RUU for your phone or change regions with a CID change, but I'm not that familiar with the HTC mediatek devices, though.

It is really difficult to support without the phone or images.

Since Tathyajit has the same model and also in working condition, can we extract the hboot or system image file from his phone and check? Just a thought. In that case, we need to guide Tathyajit how to do that, if required.
Without root permission,is it possible to extract hboot and system image file.
@Tathyajit: Please share your getvar info so that we can know the model and version of your phone.

If you can find a way to get root on your device, I'll be able to provide instructions to extract what I need to decrypt the RUUs for all Desire 628s. Unfortunately, without root and no custom recovery available at this point, the only way to fix @arindambag's phone is via a RUU that is not available (yet).
Need help please, could able to install the RUU for version 1.17.400.1 and the phone also started successfully, but suddenly the phone went off and now it's not starting. I tried all combinations of Volume Up, Down, Power, etc. but could not able to start. Once the charger is connected, pressing the Power button shows the Battery icon once and then again the phone goes off. Pressing combinations of hard buttons, I could able to listen in my PC that connecting/disconnecting sound is coming but nothing getting displayed in the screen.
At one point of time, the HTC logo screen did come but the phone again going to the black screen.
Any suggestions would really help me.
Check this if you could find what you need
I have root via kingroot on a purchased outright medtech HTC desire 628. If you tell me how to go about getting any info that would help let me know.

Its really simple mahn... Just download TWRP builder. Grant root access and upload your boot image. Make sure you have backed up your current boot.img . When the custom twrp recovery is ready, the app will let you know. For me, it didn't work. Then I contacted the developer and he did some tweaks and sent the recovery for the second time. And it worked!
