Ok So I bought some adapters (see attachments) to charge mi Z1 via the magnetic port, So far I dont have problems, until the KitKat update, in all JB versions I can charge it without any problem, I have one charger in my room and I use another for the school (different cable, different power source, different adaptor) But after the KitKat update there is a point (mostly when the battery reaches almost 50%) when the phone starts to get some overheat, there is even a point when stops charging (maybe for security I suppose) I left it in the night and when I wake up the battery is at 60% + -, and the phone its hot as I was playing with it, it only happen via the magnetic and only with the kitkat upgrade, anyone else having this behaviour? I have do a update via PC Companion, and after notice these behaviour, a complete wipe with SEUS, same results
any idea?
BTW If i charge the phone turned off it doesnt get overheat..... and charges normally

I'm charging my phone with the dock (which is obviously magnetic) but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Of course I dont touch it while it's docked , but I haven't noticed the battery stop charging or anything. could be your charger.
I'm using magnet-USB cable (not adapter) and there's no problems with it..

When I'm charging (mostly overnight ) when it get full charge, it starts to discharge when it's still plugged.
I've tested. In airplane mode and closing all apps but the issue persist.
I haven't tested in another plug because I charge it st night to use it as an alarm.
I've disconnect the original charger from the plug and I've heard a strange buzz from it.

When your phone core goes above 40 degrees celsius, it automatically decreases the voltage taken in from the charger. An app must be causing your phone to work while off.

I'd make sure that I close all apps and wait to cool it down before I plug it to the charger, I'll root and remove some stock apps to test it.
Also please give me feedbacks if you hear a strange buzz from the wall adapter when you unplug it, I get this even when the phone isn't connected.

My GT-N7000 yesterday developed this issue:
When I boot it (no USB cable to power it), the battery shows empty (grep battery icon, with a charging circle).
A second or so later, it switches to show a half-full battery, with charging dots below. and it vibrates for about a second.
Again, another second ro so later it goes back to showing an empty battery and the cycle continues.
If I attach a UCB charging cable, it boots fine, shows the battery as 100%
If I remove the charging cable, it loses power. When switched on again, this all starts over.
I saw this on ICS (4.0.4, stock, German) and there i also had the battery icon in normal more switching between
charging and blinking to not charging. I found a recommendation that upgrading might help, so I
did apply the JB update I had downloaded a few days ago, but this does happen
under JB too (OTA German 4.0.4, then flashed with Phil's-stock plus cwn6)
Is there anything can can be done? Is this a hardware issue or something that some form of total reset might cure?
As it is, I cannot use the phone w/o having it externally powered through my powerbank or car charger.
This happens with two batteries, so it's not the battery that is broken
I really think this one is battery problem as I have experienced the same thing..
are the batteries you tested New?
just my 2 cents.

No, I've had both a fow a while.
I may buy a third just to test but I fear I may have to get a replacement phone soon , sniff
Though I would suggest that you get a new set of batteries...they solved the problem for me.
While you are at it, please search the forum for another solution that worked for me- "cleaning the micro-usb slot"...its an easy process but needs to be done a little carefully.
either of the two would definitely work for you...speaking from experience!

Bro..i had the same problem..this morning, when the phone showed 100% in charged mode..as soon as i unplugged the charger..the charging %age goes down to 15% immedietly.. i went and bought a new charging port(only that usb charging port = very small),removed the old usb port and soldered the new usb port to the note..This works like charm..but this probably void the warranty ..so,if u want..its upto u..i wont recommend it but it works like charm for me

Hey guys,

Output: 5V 1A

Unfortunately its not possible for me to charge my s3 mini with this external battery.
The cable and the battery is okay, tested that with other devices.
Anyone can solve this problem or has it too?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick answer but that doesnt work
also when the device is off and i turn on the external battery the device turns on and gets into a load mode or something (it doesnt even load at this Point, seems so that it just init the "turned off charging" dont know how i should call that )
same Thing when i restart the phone with external battery plugged on, there just happens nothing, normal boot process without any hint of charging^^
Ahh really? I had same issue and my method seemed to work are you trying with ur usb cable that came with the phone or the one that cane with the battery power. Try both out

What do you mean with "the one that cane with the battery power"?
Ive tried a lot of different usb cables they work all with the original charging-adapter but None with the external battery
tried it with the Amazon Basics usb cable, original Samsung data cable and the cable from the old Motorola xt 720 ^^
But thank you for the answer
strange.. when device is off can it charge or it doesnt charge at all with the samsung data cable. If it does charge while off, when its charging turn on the phone and it should charge as well.

Sadly that doesn´t work too. The device is doing absolutely nothing when i restart it from the turned off charging. Its like it wouldn´t know that theres a cable that wants to Charge it.

My external battery has also 5v.. and 1A should reach to Charge
Same problem here. No matter what external battery pack, this S3 mini is not detecting the battery pack as a charger. All of these packs work just fine with any other phone: tried with 2 SII, i8910, different Nokia phones, Blackberrry's etc.
I suspect that somewhere in the kernel there's no "3rd" unknown source or it has odd values, or it's somewhere else, but definitely soft problem as phone usb port works fine and recharges just fine from PC or laptop with any and every usb cable. Same goes for wall chargers. I haven't tried with car chargers just yet, but might do so. Just the phone is not mine, it's my wife's phone so I can't just take it with me.
Any suggestions?
Just a quicky: Is your phone trying or connecting to a PC in MTP mode?
XXAMA2 rom here and it always has only MTP or Picture mode, maybe this triggers something if on external power pack?
Edit: BTW, even when phone is turned off it won't charge the battery from the 3rd party external battery packs... weird.
Edit2: It started to charge out of 2.1A port on external pack after 5 minutes... then continued to charge once the phone is turned on. Later I unplugged it and plugged in again and it won't charge if the phone is on. Oh well, at least it can charge if first turned off. At least that when on the road and without wall plug...
Even more strange is what I'm getting now when plugging to Duracel external pack - phone starts the music player on it's own and starts to play... I think it's defo something related to MTP or such...
Strange. My power bank works just fine. The charging indicator shows when I plug my S3Mini with my power bank. (Cheap chinese brand. 5200mAh, 1.0 A)
Usually when the USB indicator showed up when you plug your external power source, the cable is the one with 4 lines (two for transferring data, and the other two for receiving electricity needed for charging, or +/- ).
Try using the USB cable with two lines only (electricity lines only, without data transferring lines)

Well, after trying all USb cables I have in my house I found one that is CHARGING IT!!! I dunno what wires it has or not and I don't care ATM. Point is there's nothing (EDIT) wrong with battery packs nor the phone. It all still indicates damn MTP kicking in where it shouldn't IMO. Dang Samsung for screwing it all up yet another time.
Still, I'm happy it CAN work all right, so no more depleted battery when on the road / trip
Thanks for a great suggestion there!

Yes. The only way to figure it out is to peel it off, which is not a sensible thing to do anyway.

So i'm having the same trouble with my powerbank, tested with 3 different S3 minis, and all have the same result, also tested my powerbank and cables with another 2 different cellphones (Sony and LG) and worked fine...
Also tried using stock ROM, same result...
When i try to charge with the phone on doesn't work, but if i turn the phone off it works, i made a video showing:

Any suggestions?
I'm running maclaw's CyanogenMod 11.0 20140610, there is any LOG to see what happens? where can i access it?
Hi,
I have scoured through the forums and googled for many days, I was not able to find the definite answer to solve my problem. The problem appears to be that the battery doesn't charge up, however, many signs show otherwise, I would like to ask if anyone here knows which part of the phone actually does the battery voltage sensing.
Firstly, I have tried charging my phone while it is switched off, several hours of charging only yields 10+% of charge. Secondly, I tried changing the battery of the phone, makes no difference. All these was done with different USB chargers and different charging cables. Then, I tried rooting and unlocking it and flashing cyanogenmod, problem still exists. Lastly, I tried flashing the same firmware version once and then a different firmware, still does not solve the problem.
Some things that led me to believe that it might be the fault of the battery voltage sensing circuit component of the phone are that when the phone is in recovery mode, I can unplug the charging cable and the phone does not power down. However, when the phone boots normally into android, the battery indicator would appear as 0% and unplugging the cable would shut down the phone.
BTW, my phone's warranty is already up. Is there anyone that has the same problem or some solutions to this problem? Thank you in advance.
JM

I dont think calibration is the problem since he fleshed CM and other roms and atill have battery problem.I think you should try to remove batery from device and charge it on separate charger. If that doesnt help you will need new battery.

Hi,
I have already bought a new battery but it still doesn't charge up. Would it be due to other hardware failures?
Well that is unfortunate but it appears so. except if you didn't do full system wipe before flashing other roms.Did you?

Have you tryed cleaning the charging port out mine was full of dirt and had same problem.
battery life
I turned the phone off took battery out and then used a needle and managed to get fluff and dirt out of the port which I didn't see until I shined a torch in. But you have to be carful not to damage anything. I also had a problem with my phone only charging to 92% that ended up been cause it wasnt a geniune lead. cheers and good luck
My Huawei has a problem charging the battery, charging time is too long. He needs two hours to fill from 50% to 65% ?????? Does anyone know how to solve the problem?
How are you charging it? via a computer? What kind of charger do you use if you don't use a computer? The stock one that comes with the device or a different one?
Have you tried using a different charger for the phone?
I've never had any problems with charging my huawei ascend p7 and I'm using the stock charger that came with the device.
Also charging from my laptop seems to work fine for me.
Also, are you using a custom ROM?

I tried with a stronger charger and charge the battery quickly ....
I use samsung charger from very beginning, since from few days I'm facing this late charging problem
Hey, I got the same problem now. I do the same as alway (= same charger, cable, the same apps using, same android version, etc.) and now it got very slow charging unreasonably. I tried to change chargers, cables, plugs, but the same story appears.
to charge 1% up takes more than 3 -4minutes, before it was 50% less time...
