HTC Dot View released in Play store
http://www.talkandroid.com/201377-htc-releases-dot-view-app-to-google-play/
When can this be ported to Nexus 5 (and a relevant case manufactured!

really cool concept but I don't think there's a way to port it without fully porting the entire sense rom.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Yeah I saw this on mkbhd's YouTube video review of the m8. Its a pretty sick feature. Surprised Sammy didn't think of it first with all the other gimmicks they have
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

One thing the article in the link got wrong is that there is no external display on the case, instead, there are a semitransparent hole which will display what ever is displaying on the screen on the phone.

We can but hope!

I'm sure that is super Dependant on the sense framework

Chameleon

Hey guys, who has tried out the new chameleon launcher? It is pretty good. Very intuitive. Although, i feel like there is not nearly as much customization. Does anybody want me to post a video?

is it released already to playstore?
Yep

Aww man! I was saving my Google play store gift card credit for this and I just realised that I only have 7 dollars left over so I can't buy this. I hope there is a sale for this app in the future

$10 is way too much for just a launcher I think... looks cool though.
It looks good, but I thought even $4 was to much for Nova...
I might be a little guilty about it, buy it is pretty good. The main feature that someone would want with this is the changing, which means it will take you to a home page at a certain time, depending on location
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
So what's the big deal about this?
I don't see anything special about this launcher. Plus $10 is way too much for a mere launcher, especially considering they used Kickstarter to gather their fund in the beginning.
It is just new. The main reason to buy it is because of the gos integration thing. So say you are a t school or work, it will take you to a customized place for those things
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Awesome concept, apart from price, the only use provided widgets, laggyness and lack of customization is a big downfall but they should get fixed seeing that it's only v1
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I don't actually know how practical this thing is by putting on a whole bunch of auto-update widgets clunking on the home screen to suck the battery.
I'd rather keep my home screen as minimalist as possible.

It should have been fixed in beta. There's no reason to bring something out of beta if there are glaring bugs and lack of features. Especially with a $10 price tag. They should have just had an open beta instead of charging people to participate. I mean Kickstarter.
I use it, I love it, doesn't affect my battery doesnt slow the tablet down(only full storage seems to do that). Ten bucks for something that you have the potential to use for the entire time you use android is not much when looked that way.
To the other guy wondering why they went on kickstarter first then just to sell it later. Let me explain people need food, drink, and a place to stay and or work. So kickstarter to fund the app and be able to pay people to work on it. I didn't have to rebuy it or anything, so
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I got it earlier this morning and it's pretty nice, I dunno if I'll use it as my daily for a while though. I really wish it could use other widgets though... And they better not charge for new ones.

+1
I keep my home screens bare or to a minimum for this very reason.
But the location thing is cool I guess for people who need something like that.
Personally, I'll pass... $10 is way too much foe an app like this, IMHO.
Sent from my ADR3010 using Tapatalk 2
The developers probably got rich off he funding from kick starter and re now recouping their actual costs trough the ridiculously high play store price. I don't see the Point of such a radical launcher departure. The novelty will soon we're off.

it's a neat idea, but let's be honest, no one's gonna use that changing homescreen feature. And it doesn't auto change, a popup comes up and asks u if you want to change homescreen. Kinda defeats the purpose, especially when it's only a swipe away.
True. It isn't as great as stock, but could be useful

I wonder if any developers here on xda with HTML skills be interested in converting existing apps into Widgets for this. Like a chameleon dedication thread of popular apps with API converted to be compatible with this launcher.

Are you happy with 4.2? (poll)

I'm debating switching over just to try it, just want to have a better idea if people like 4.2 or not. Thanks.
Not really. Its not polished at all and is laggy. I also prefer cm over stock and hate chrome.

Other than lockscreen, l like it
Nah, I quite like the dual notif box's, one for quick settings etc.
But hate how it keeps scrolling down, off screen etc.
Also, MY NEXUS IS SO SLOW AND LAGGY NOW, FEELS LIKE THERES 100GB of data on a 16GB tablet its that rudy slow.
Some app won't work.
1.I love MX Player but not supported android 4.2
2.I can't see TWRP backup folder when connect with PC

I think it's a good update.
My favorite new feature is definitely the keyboard
S'ok
Like = Gesture Typing, new settings drop down - Epic!
Not Sure = WIDI - This could be cool as no MHL on my Nexus 7 but not tried yet and possibly expensive
Don't Like = New lockscreen - Just looks nasty and feels slow and pointless
Love it! It the best Android experience yet! IMO
Sent from my SPH-D710/Nexus7 using Tapatalk v2.4.1
If I don't go away this weekend I will have a chance to install it. I almost did it yesterday but was so tired. I definitely want to try it though. I know I'll miss AOKP.
The only thing I like is the gesture typing. My nexus 7 has seemed much slower since the update and I hate the dual drop down menus.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Swipe typing is really nice, animations on the app switcher look pretty cool. But does feel a touch sluggish on general use. Plus Bluetooth audio is screwed up, audio keeps stuttering really badly. Notifications seems half a step backward to me, but not something I'm overly bothered about
It's ok besides these issues that are really getting me frustrated. Can't get old pics to show in Gallery, even though they are there and are in the same file location that pics taken with 4.2 are. Pics taken on 4.2 show in Gallery show in Gallery...? Can't find the newest TWRP backup in file explorer, but it shows in TWRP. Total opposite for old backups.....they show in file explorer, but not in TWRP?
Oh...the USB-debugging hidden thing had me mad at first, but now think it was kinda funny.
It is a SMALL update, very small.
I don't care about the keyboard, since I don't use dictionary (not possible with slavic languages, and I use TWO).
I don;t particulary like new notifications/settings pulldown. It is ugly and extends over the edge f the screen, even if empty.
I don't like new lock screen. I prefer to have weather icon on it than stupid widgets which might provide private data before UNLOCK
I have a feeling it is slower, only slightly, though, than 4.1.2
Several apps don't work, including my favorite TSF Shell
"Blink to logon" is a good idea, but I have glasses and it doesn't work very well for me
So, all in all, a HUGE FAIL.
Thanx god it is a small update, who knows what Google would manage to f*ck up in MAJOR update....
My only issue is that the quick settings notification area aren't actual toggles as opposed to shortcuts to settings. But overall happy.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
4.2 is just preparing us for 5.0 and you could tell in the new clock app.I think they are going to change the color scheme to red. The camera icon is also different and in 5.0 there will be more changes. For now we are basically beta testers of an early build of 5.0
4.2 is very smooth though
4.2 seems to work pretty well. Smooth and relatively trouble free so far.
Went all the way back to stock/unrooted/locked
Updated ota to 4.1.2
Flashed 4.2
Unlocked/rooted applied 720p video patch
All is smooth

Your Best Features of Android/Nexus?

What do you think are the best features that your nexus 4 is capable off.
Personally I think the fact you can use it as a gaming console (ps3 controller and hdmi output) is a fantastic feature of the phone.
Also the fact I can use it as a tablet type device by reading pdfs (essential for work) and as a media centre with the music and films.
What are your favourite features of this phone and of android in general?
This could be a useful thread for people to learn about things they weren't aware of . So what aspects do you enjoy the most?

The communities these devices generate.. All the way back from lurking SDX Developers to present day to being a heavy poster on XDA.. I've enjoyed every minute I lurk and post on these boards. You meet some interesting folks, you have some great laughs, some not so great arguments, and more importantly constantly learning... If you're willing to listen.. There is always someone around here willing to help another person out.. All you gotta do is ask.. And if you get bored.. You can pick any thread in the development section, start from page one and just read.. You're bound to learn something new..
The best feature of Android is IMO that it is open source and the best feature of the Nexi is IMO that they run clean Android and have full fastboot support.
having used an Android phone since the OG Galaxy S (Captivate), i've really come to love that the Nexus isn't locked to any particular carrier, and has no bloatware. in the past, i've always felt like i had to root and ROM my phones the moment i got them, just to get rid of AT&T's craptastic pre-loaded apps. i've had my N4 for nearly 3 whole months and haven't found a NEED to mod it at all (i still may in the future because of a desire to, but the need isn't there).
that's why i love the Nexus...

I've been firmly entrenched in Apple's ecosystem for almost 30 years, and while most apps still exhibit more polish on iOS... Android is catching up.
Nexus 7 was the first Android device that impressed me, and Nexus 4 is more of the same. While I initially missed the ability to communicate via AppleEvents to my server, I managed to solve that problem and there is now very little iOS abilities I miss on Android.
best feature is that i bought one for $220 from a friend of mine

Change from S4 to One is it worth to loose some money

Hey guys. I got an S4 from my job. And today I saw the ONE in a shop and I got to use it a bit. I liked a lot. But if I'm going to change it I'll be losing some money. And I'm a bit worried of HTC future also.

its not worth losing money over changing imho. the only s4 flaw that worries is me is potential burn in if you are heavy user in bright environments. Check the s3 screens on demo at your local store. nasty burn in on them...
The one all the way man. The s4 may have a bunch of cool features but how many of them do you use? And just look at it... It's freaking beautiful compared to the plastic crap...

Its tricky but if possible spend a little time with One. Not just couple of minutes but little more than that.
There are niggles with even One. Those who own the device will most of the times give you biased opinions. As owner of both, I would not feel it will be sound advice to tell someone to ditch S4 in favour of One and on top of that lose money in the process.
Rather than make another long post about it, I will link to my previous post in locked thread. That thread had to be cleaned because fanboys on both sides just made it ugly in there. And in the end mod had to delete all but OP and my post

Think twice before making a move. One is beautiful device, but S4 is equally good(not in terms of looks) and probably more functional with more traditional way of doing things which are universal to most android handsets. One takes completely different path.
Development for both phones wont be an issue. S4 and One both have great development work going on for it.

This is what I am talking about. Blind one sided view of things. Nothing on One works like stock android by default unless you change the Sense 5 launcher with something else. Not even simple wallpaper changing or creating shortcuts and dragging tray icon apps etc. Even these basic things are done differently. HTC specifically have gone their own way about almost everything with One. Some people love it, some hate it. I dont like it.
And development will not be an issue. S4 has been out for less than a month. One had shortages but it was in hands of lot of developers early.
S4 already had Omega and Wanam ROMs, two top recognised developers for Samsung phones. More will jump in eventually. It is just matter of time.
TWUI is more functional than Sense 5. It may not look as elegant as our sense to look at, but it works just fine. It might have colour scheme that represents brazilian rainforest, but it is functional and most actions work like stock android. So even if someone is coming from likes of Nexus 4 or older Samsung phones or even any old ICS or JB and even gingerbread, they will feel right at home.
S4 may not be as good looking, as well built phone as One, but it is no slouch. Definitely not something that is worth less than One or something you need to throw out to get One and lose money in process.
It has its share of problems just like we have our own share of problems with One. And that is something lot of people here wont accept (that One really does have issues ).
I still use One as my primary phone, that does not mean I am ready to tell someone to ditch his perfectly fine S4 to get One.

The One is only okay.
I've extensively used both the One Dev. Ed. and the GS4 and you're not missing out on anything. I am currently using the One and trying out various launchers. IMHO the GS4 had a better phone, calendar, email app, and I really miss 4.2.2. Don't be fooled by the unlocked bootloader: I've literally installed every custom ROM on the One. The difference between the screens is negligible, yet the autobrightness of the One is more functional and CM 10.1 has excellent autobrightness (unfortunately, the screen would go black every time I made a phone call. I like Blinkfeed, but am disappointed by Sense. The GS4 and the One are my first Android phones and I would readily choose the GS4. I have every intention to sell my One and buy the 32gb GS4.
Disable the s4 gimmick features and the phone will speed up

Actually, with regards to embedded videos, it does not seem to work anymore for those that I have in my Pocket articles.
Just a "Couldn't load plug-in" error message.
But other than that, i think the new dialer does mirror my usage style of not keying in numbers all the time, but just that few contacts. nice feature there.
1 - ART. That makes me keep my Nexus 4 and now only waiting for Nexus 6 next year
2 - The new dialer. A think Google got a point here.

- The dialer: It seems a lot less...bland...and I feel like i want to use it more. (Bonus points for the fact it brought up the name of the take-away i've been using for the past few weeks that I never knew the name of)
- The hidden UI when browsing fullscreen content also makes that bit of a difference to me
Dialer is cool. Like the full screen browser too and overall better battery life.
All the new UI related things, and ART as internal thing.
PrOn Pages dont lag on Chrome when Art is enabled

Art, GEL, and dialer ui is helpful.

Gel question.
It would suit me much better if I could remove search bar from homescreen.
Any idea for that?

Nothing much. It's an incremental update, hyped by blogs and obsessives. Roll on android 6.00

Yes but you're not going to like it. Uninstall Google Search completely from your device, then install the AOSP launcher from CM11 rom, it's the same as Google launcher without the Google Now integration. It doesn't gone an extra row for home screen either, but it does show more apps in the drawer.

Yes the dialer has been my main frustration for a long time, having no t9 support. When it did, the limited display of 3 contacts with only name + number was somewhat dissapointing, especially since htc implemented that feature from day one it seemed.
I do miss the opportunity to switch functions using a swipe though (the dialer pad button is a little hard to press wile on a bicycle ), but overall I think it's a huge improvement, especially with the mentioned bonus point that it identifies numbers from businesses that are not in my contacts!
I like how Google didn't give us transparency on stock /s
I would say the new dialer and music lock screen are my favorites so far
