Is it possible to disable full screen keyboard on the stock keyboard?
The keyboard shouldn´t be full screen.
Are you sure you have a stock phone?

The stock keyboard in a Sense rom is my fav. In landscape, the keyboard and type window take the full screen. In AOSP roms there is usually an option to disable that, but I'm wondering if it's possible to do that for the stock HTC kb on a Sense ROM.
Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

I imagined the keyboard taking up the entire screen.
I have no option to make it smaller on my sense keyboard.

Wuts good XDA-Developers Q&A
well i'd like to kno is it possible to get a better keyboard for the Hero build JacxSki v2.1 for the G1/Dream cause i was useing "HERO2 - Freedom of choice 1.5.4JAC-SKI BFS-211" and i like that keyboard but on both of these build theres no "Landscape" mode for the keyboard so can you change the keyboard layout at all or can i change it and get Landscape too some how
the onscreen keyboard (AKA HTC_IME) should be the same for both. Chances are the app you're using doesn't support auto rotation.
you mean the rom im useing doesnt support auto-rotation rite? im sure Hero does thou pretty sure it does that dam rom can do everything else

No, I mean the app you're using doesn't auto rotate.
When you say the landscape keyboard doesn't work, what do you mean?
So the app rotates, but the keyboard never opens when you tap the area for text input. A screen shot would be nice if you know how to use adb.
I feel like this is a stupid question so forgive my ignorance if it is but would it be possible to create a keyboard that uses the prediction and keys of IME with the features of the stock froyo keyboard? (I mean the ability to insert ! . , ? after each word and being able to slide your finger up for additional characters)
This seems like it would be impossible but then again, this is XDA so you never know
anyway, thanks!

I know its not quite what you're looking for, but a bit of work has been done on a keyboard manager to set different keyboards for portrait and landscape mode -- its still a WIP but its promising.
I used CM6 for a while, but still find that DDv2.8 flys on my phone and reverted back to it. The only thing I miss is the Android keyboard on CM6, it had a few tweaks that I preferred over the keyboard on DD.
Is there an apk or a .zip that I can flash to get this keyboard? I really miss it =(
Moved to Q&A as not development

Those tweaks are because it's a 2.2 rom/keyboard. It won't work on 2.1, there's no framework for it

Do you mean the stock android keyboard?
Maybe, not too sure. Its the black keyboard with the 1-9 across the top. Also, after you press space bar, the !.?- functions all pop up in the option tab so you can easily end the sentence. In the DDv2.8 keyboard, you have to click on the corner # button to launch any punctuation. Does that make sense?
Hey Guys , can't v get the tap sensor to work on Customs Roms like MIUI , CyanogenMod in Optimus 2x???
stuppid question , but what for is the tap sensor ? wat does it?
I'm guessing he means the stock ROM feature where you tap the edge of the phone to bump the cursor along.

Have to say I love that feature on the LG keyboard and it's the reason I still use it even if layout and functions (like long hold for nos etc) are better on other keyboards like the GB one

The GB keyboard has cursor keys, which I actually find more useful than the tap function. Just swipe up from the space bar to show them and swipe down to hide them.

Er, no it doesn't. No idea what you're using, but it's not the GB keyboard.

Maybe I should have been clearer. I'm using Keyboard from Android 2.3 by Steven Lin from the market, which does have that feature.
Ah ha, yes that makes more sense. Just had a look, not a bad idea really.
I upgraded to LA4 and realized that letters are a lot smaller that the previous firmware I had. My fingers are too big for a tiny keyboard. I mean we have 5.3" screen what is the point of shrinking the letters that much?
Anyways, how can I get my old keyboard back or a keyboard that is bigger than the LA4 keyboard?
I liked the bigger keyboard better. the new one is too small for me.
I would appreciate it if some knew how to get the older keyboard back instead of reverting to an older rom
hi, maybe im wrong, but could it be that you guys have been under settings->language&Keyboard and have set a tap to an option that called 'one hand operation' ? if yes delete the tap and you have your old keyboard back
Also smart keyboard on the market, allows you to increase its keys to whatever pixel size you want :-D

I am not a big fan of 3rd party keyboard apps but in this case I will try that. Thank you.
Any other suggestions are welcomed.
I use hacker's keyboard from the market. There you can set the height of the keys if you want to.
tap*talked via GT-N7000 (GB.XXLA4)
yeah.. smart keyboard pro should do the trick..
