Warning: I can't say it won't brick your device, but it worked for me. If you do brick, just ODIN flash back to 4.3 ML2 here. This procedure will not work on the i9295 since it does not have AWS in the hardware.
This procedure downgrades the modem firmware to a known version that is vulnerable to the AWS unlock exploit. After that, we can flash the modified i337 QCN to the device that enables the AWS frequencies. You can not upgrade back to the ML2 (or newer) baseband after this is done, Samsung patched the exploit and you will revert back to non-AWS unless you redo this procedure. MF1 baseband should work just fine on the 4.4.2 OTA but I have not tested it yet.
Step 1: Backup your device just in case you brick. You don't want to lose your personal stuff.
Step 2: Follow the directions this page and install the MF1 modem.bin file with Odin.
Step 3: Once phone has rebooted and everything is back up and working normally, follow this page exactly to AWS unlock the device with the modified QCN file from the ATT S4 i337, but dial *#0808# instead of *#7284#
Step 4: Enjoy AWS/LTE frequencies on Android 4.3!
Side Note: There is a possibility you might need to manually add your carrier's LTE APN's to your device.
This is my first S4 Active "hack" that I developed, hopefully more to come!

Yes, LTE is really that fast in Orlando. Now you see why I put so much effort to stay on T-Mobile. $70 a month unlimited everything with no bandwidth throttling.

Prerequisites:
A PC with Samsung Drivers installed, S4 Active i537 running the latest OTA 4.3 ML2, SIM unlocked for another GSM carrier (tmobile, etc). My device was rooted from these instructions but I don't believe root is required. This *should* also work on the latest 4.4 release, but I have yet to test.

The ML2 modem is not compatible with the known exploit that enables AWS. If you flash the ML2 modem after unlocking AWS, you will lose AWS.
Darn I was supposed to post this a few weeks ago, thanks TwoStroker37 for actually getting it up! This is definitely going to save some people.
FYI this same method of downgrading to the MF1 modem also reopens the phone to a free SIM UNLOCK exploit. RegionLockAway in my experience was able to SIM UNLOCK my S4a on ML2 with MF1 modem. That SIM UNLOCK will stay even if you flash back to the ML2 modem. AWS unlock, as OP stated, is currently not compatible with ML2.
If there are people here who would be willing to donate to a pool to AWS unlock 4.3/4.4 PM me, I have a contact who may be able to create a new mod for us... but I don't care enough about it to pay for his services personally.
Somebody knows some method to unblock SIM card,

Region unlock apk worked fine to me on MF1
---------- Post added at 02:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 AM ----------
well for people having the "not phone" probem here is the solution:
Use this trick to get out off the “not getting the (0) detection on QPST”:
1) enter *#9090# on dialer
2) CLICK on the #2 – DM/DUN over HSIC
3) phone should reset; just connnect the cable back in and try QPST again"
then continued as per OP instructions.
Thanks to @Cuda70383
If this not working try use DM + MODEM +ADB instead of RNDIS + DM + MODEM, it worked for me

You will not be able to take an ota with a rooted rom. The rom must be unmodified in any way for the ota to succeed in the upgrade. So your only chance is to either unroot the rom or factory restore the rom. If you factory restore, remember to backup your data.
iam on stock rom and I can't factory reset it show me the same message

You just said you were rooted, and you can not be rooted to take an ota. I am pretty sure of it.

Root=no upgrade. FleetPhone is saying because you are rooted your phone will not update. You can't have root.
Guys....it's not about being rooted. It's about NOT having STOCK RECOVERY, *or* about changes that were made to /system.
Usually just being rooted won't stop you from taking updates. But you can NOT take an update without Stock Recovery. You probably have TWRP recovery still installed - this will prevent the OTA from installing.
Aside from that, any significant modifications to /system, for example Xposed will need to be uninstalled first.
If you can't figure out the problem, use RSD Lite to flash the entire 4.4.2 ROM, then you can take the OTA.
NEVER DOWNGRADE. You can only do this because you are still on 4.4.2 and haven't updated to 4.4.4. Once on 4.4.4, any attempt to downgrade will likely result in a brick.
Good Luck :good:
You must hide root with SuperSU & use STK recovery

Nope, not unless you unlock through the China middleman. Just search 'China middleman' and you will find the thread.

I have AT&T Moto X with unlocked bootloader and root. All I did to take update was restore stock recovery and apply 4.4.2 system.img to ensure there were not system changes and my phone accepted update fine (didn't lose anything either). Then I got root back I installed TWRP and SuperSU again. Done.
You can do all of this with the MotoX tookit. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/tool-moto-x-toolkit-v1-4-0-t2477132

Ok, your problem of not being able to take the OTA... that is because of how SlapMyMoto works, and tricks it plays to give you root and write protection disabled.
If you want to take the OTA, you will have no choice but to flash completely back to stock (using RSDLite) and WILL lose root. For how, see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515
Keep in mind that with a LOCKED bootloader, you will NOT be able to DISABLE Write Protection when on 4.4.2 and above. If on 4.4.2, PIE or TOWELPIEROOT can be used to root, but write protection will still be enabled, so root and changes made by root apps would be lost at power off/on or "hard boot" and root apps done have the ability to create files in /system and such. There is no root for 4.4.4 with locked bootloader. For more see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/one-stop-shop-how-root-moto-x-confusion-t2826159 its not a very long thread, so please read ALL of it... including Post #70 of that thread
And before you ask... No, if you are on 4.4.4 you can NOT fully downgrade to 4.4.2 or lower. If you are on 4.4.2 you can NOT fully downgrade to 4.4 (aka 4.4.0) or lower! If you try, you will likely brick your phone or set it up to brick with future OTA's. (this is true for locked and Unlocked bootloaders)
IF you have an ATT, Verizon or Republic wireless, you can try the China Middleman thread in the general section to see if you can get a bootloader unlock code if you want to root and disable write protection no matter what ROM is on your phone.

Thank you for help and quick reply you made my day
At&t rom is fkn awesome in batery life
Hi there this is my first post so excuse me if i'm unclear about stuff. if you need any info just gimme a shout and i can find it for you!
I have an M7 on O2 (UK), I've had it pretty much since it release in 2013.
Upon getting the phone i immediately rooted whilst on Android Version 4.4.3, it's the Sense Version too (i don't know if that's relevant or not).
Anyway it's been a while since this, and i've lost a lot of the knowledge i had on Android & Rooting etc.
I'm looking to un-root my phone to get the OTA Updates which have been alerting my (very annoying) since 2013!
Last week i began watching tutorials and reading up, a few days in and i gave it my first attempt..
I first re-locked my Bootloader successfully and then tried using the RUU Software but was unlucky with numerous versions (i'm still unsure about how to find the RIGHT one). After hours & hours i was at and end and couldnt seem to find the right one for my phone and i gave up.
Since "re-locking" my Bootloader i've been facing an issue where every time i power up or restart my phone it boots in the Bootloader's Fastboot mode, from here i have to navigate to 'reboot'... the phone then restarts and this time round i get my usual home screen.
I'm unsure as to what direction to go now as i'm scared i will brick my phone, i guess i have 2 options;
A. Continue to try and return to stock and then decide if i wish to re-root (probably not)
B. Unlock the Bootloader once again (only this will wipe my phone, and i can't find the original stock rom thus leading to a brick i expect?)
Hope someone can help, any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

not sure about the unlocking maybe try with Tmobile if not buy the unlock code and yes its expensive..
to go back to stock firmware if you were on 20i
i would say wipe in twrp then go into download mode... make dure you can go into download mode first.
install LGUP phone drivers i assume you have them.
select in LGUP upgrade so KDZ will show up select it. then close the LGUP program , open it now tick the refurbished so this way it wipes everything and press start and let it finish flashing.
heres KDZ 20i and if you read LGUP link

I can install "LG-H81120i-Flashable.COMPLETE.zip" directly with the TWR, clicking on install, select the .ZIP, and reboot? The other form of LG Up do not know. "Download Mode" not know what that is.

After figured out how to flash any firmware without change the radio, now I'm going further to flash any RUU into my Sprint hTC 10. Not really Debrand but still promising
Before we start, please read my old TUT for more experience: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-10/how-to/tut-flash-firmware-sprint-htc-one-t3458721
Now we start. As everyone already know, the only reason we can't flash any RUU because It'll lock your sim card and your imei and we all know the method to debrand any hTC one or ever other version of hTC 10. That's why I am going to do the same method.
1/ S-off, Change CID, MID (Super CID if you want)
2/ Download RUU that match your MID
3/ Download the Sprint radio here https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3JWmvvPdlHZYUdGVUVraGZsZmc
4/ Flash radio
5/ Check Radio version. It must be [email protected]
Ok, now U can use your hTC 10 with working radio. For someone isn't using sprint simcard, Unlock the simcard using this following method:
6/ download any Sprint carrier supported rom like Viper, Leedroid, etc
7/ TWRP
8/ Choose carrier as Sprint inside Aroma, flash it
9/ Unlock sim card following this TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/nv-unlock-sim-t3314755

1/ S-off, Change CID, MID (Super CID if you want)
2/ Download RUU that match your MID
3/ Download firmware update that match your RUU carrier for most compatible here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=3387520
4/ Open your firmware update zip file, delete radio.img, save it.
5/ Download the Sprint radio here https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3JWmvvPdlHZYUdGVUVraGZsZmc then import it to your firmware update zip file.
6/ Flash the RUU
7/ Flash the modified firmware update zip file.
8/ Check Radio version. It must be [email protected]
Ok, now U can use your hTC 10 with working radio. For someone isn't using sprint simcard, Unlock the simcard using this following method:
9/ download any Sprint carrier supported rom like Viper, Leedroid, etc
10/ TWRP
11/ Choose carrier as Sprint inside Aroma, flash it
12/ Unlock sim card following this TUT http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/nv-unlock-sim-t3314755

Of course at least everything works like a charm in my phone because I'm using cook rom Sprint carrier.
I still don't know what happen to your phone. In theory, you can convert to 2PS65 by this method. Change your RUU, your MID but I can't confirm there won't be any error because I haven't test in any original RUU. I only can confirm this method won't brick your phone and won't lock your imei then u can unlock your sim card manualy.
When I test with Ledroid, US Unlocked, applications still turned black so I'm back to Sprint carrier.
So sad but until now, I can't find any reason cause those troubles. Maybe because the different of hardware between 2PS64 & 2PS65. Too bad but so many people had trouble using Sprint phone outside original carrier.

Have you flash the full RUU ? after U flash full RUU of other carrier, does your radio still [email protected] ?
U can back to original Sprint RUU and try again. U also can dump your own radio.img and put it into the firmware update.

My bad, hTC 10 can flash radio through bootloader. Please reboot into bootloader, flash radio using fastboot. You don't have to mod the firmware again.

After figured out how to flash any firmware without change the radio, now I'm going further to flash any RUU into my Sprint hTC 10. Not really Debrand but still promising

This actually saved my mobile network, long story short, I flashed an unlocked US, played with AOSP, then tried to restore my nandroid after RUU back to Sprint. Long and short left me without mobile network which freaked me out. I went 4 hours trying to fix this with flashing modems, wiping, RUU'ing, then I ended up doing exactly this (without first finding this post). So skip ahead to now, I find your post and then the post on Viper, so I did just that, I flashed the open US mode, the installed Viper, selected Sprint and low and behold its working. Thanks for this post!

Best news of the day, I've updated to US Unlock Nougat 7.0 and suddenly all the black screen gone. I don't have enough time to test but at least, the dialer, google map and some other app I knew would cause the black screen in Mashmallow now no longer black screen anymore.
Just update to latest US Unlocked with US Unlocked CID and MID then OTA to 7.0
U will lost root and TWRP. Maybe, we have to wait for a few day for a new TWRP

Cant confirm cause I'm traveling outside US so I'm using another carrier. Now the Nougat only available for US Unlocked so I need someone to check with sprint Carrier. Buts yes, U need to flash Sprint radio. I can confirm U can unlock your sim card with my old radio.img.

Confirmed. Nougat will fix every problem about black screen.
Still no TWRP and also no root
First of all, i have a bootloader locked XT1254 with SU4TL49 firmware. I use Nova Launcher and was just looking through Nova Shortcuts hoping to make a GSM/UMTS switch on my home screen. I came across BandMode under Settings, and accidentally clicked USA Band. After that my SIM couldnt find any network, i tried everything: Clicked USA Band, Cellular, changed network mode to Global and back to LTE / GSM / UMTS. I even tried everything in the hidden Phone Menu (RadioInfo). After nothing worked i tried Factory reset twice, but still the same.
The phone detects the SIM and shows the SIM contacts too, but cant find any network operators. I know the last thing to try is updating firmware to Marshmallow, but that would also close the window for bootloader unlock if i later need to repair the firmware through custom recovery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Screenshots on how to kill the Network and also get to hidden Phone Menu are attached.

So, go ahead and unlock your bootloader right now. What are you waiting for? You still have Wi-Fi, right?
By the way, Sunshine works with Marshmallow now -- just not the most recent Marshmallow (MCG24.251-5-5, earlier this week). You can re-flash Su4TL-49 firmware or the first Marshmallow image, MCG24.251-5.

Besides unlocking your bootloader, the first thing you can do is try to re-flash your Lolllipop radio:
firstEncounter said:

Code:

If that doesn't work, then re-flash the entire SU4TL-49 firmware or flash the first Marshmallow image above. But go ahead and unlock your bootloader!

Before your reply here i got to the radio thread and tried flashing SU4TL49 radio. BUT what i did was flash all 3 files (radio, GPT, bootloader) as instructed in that thread. Next thing i know my baseband is Unknown and no IMEI is being shown now..... The problems seem to be stacking up.
Was some file not compatible? Do i flash any files from SU4TL44 zip now?
EDIT: FINALLY!! After flashing GPT and Bootloader of SU4TL49 i flashed radio from SU4TL44 and the command fastboot oem config fsg-id ""
Everything back to normal now! :good: :highfive:  :victory:
Thanks to your reply on the other thread about 2G not working i found out about radio flashing possibility otherwise i was thinking nothing is possible on a locked bootloader :highfive:
Now go unlock your bootloader.
