I got an old Motorola sd9 headset I've been using, was given to me for free and I think it's dying. Audio cuts in and out all the time, seems to get worse in my pocket and the buttons at starting to come off. The audio is the biggest thing. Is this just a nature of the beast? Which one does everyone recommend? I just din wanna buy another and have the same issues. Seems when I stick my phone in my pocket it cuts in and out even worse.

Well after 2 hours of reading reviews and having 6 different headsets in my cart, I ended up buying the arctic sound one for $27 off amazon. Biggest selling point was the first review was from a former SD-9 owner complaining about how the SD-9 would intermittently skip for no reasons, and the Arctic sound one had flawless signal. There were many other factors too for my decision, but that was the ultimate one. I mean there was a nice GoGear headset that looked a lot like a jaybird I was very close to buying and then one review mentioned having the same issue I'm having with my SD-9. I also really wanted one that went around the back of the neck. Also 4 star rating if I recall, the other one was another generic one similar design with a 4 1/2 star rating. The one review comparing it directly to the SD-9 was the tie breaker. Wish me luck!
repost after you have a chance to test them... i have the Moto's also and have always had the intermittent sound problem. I would love to replace them.
Will do!

Kept meaning to report back but I kept forget. Anyway the arctic sound headset is awesome! Audio quality is world's ahead actual has bass an fits just as nice. I've used them probably 4 hours this far and no signal loss what so ever. Only times the signal cut out were the phones fault: ie accessing data, syncing. A lot of reviewers complain about the build quality but for $27 I expected worse. Imo people think that motos have great build quality because of the unibody design but truth be told they are no better than this set. And that's another thing, the arctic sound actually fold up and come with a case for easy pocket storage when your not using them.
There are however 2 things moto does better. First is the lightweight and stylish design of the sd9. It looks good on your head. The arctic sound looks ridiculous. You look like your wearing a star wars droid costume with the arctic sound while the sd9 just looks literally like 2 pairs of Bluetooth headsets stuck together. The other problem is button layout and feel. With the sd9 I could easily skip, pause, or turn up and down the volume as necessary and the buttons were hard and stuck out so you could feel them easily with your fingers. The arctic sound pair isn't as well thought out. Their are 5 buttons on the right side and no dedicated call button, instead there is a gigantic "multifunction" button that controls power, call, and play and pause buttons through various button combinations that can get confusing. For instance voice dialing is holding 2 seconds, power off is 5 seconds. Redial is tap twice, play and pause are default. The skip forward, backwards, vol up and down are arranged in a cross pattern around it. They don't stick out very well so you gotta kind of feel around to push the correct button.
Inspite of these minor shortcomings overall it's a better headset than the Motorola and a steal for $27. Highly recommend

I had those Motorola SD-9hds also. I would keep the phone near to my face and it would still skip?! I was so frustrated. I spent like 70$ on that!
But I finally got fed up and bought the plantronics back beats. Best investment ever.

It was a relief to know other people had the skipping issue too. I was worried it was just the nature of the beast. I thought it was my captivate originally causing the problem but then I upgraded to the vivid and same issue

Can you kindly tell me if this Jabra Wave works on a Android phone for Skype's Calls?!
Maybe trying yourself?! if anyone has it
Or which one does work with Skype
Please
Thanks...
Been using my headset for a week and no skips whatsoever till I get almost 50 feet away from it and even then its limited. Excellent pair for the money

Sorry if this is a silly question for some (I have not owned a HTC before).... With the bundled earphones, one press of the mic button pauses the music.
A double press dials the last number I called....
.... It would really help if I could change to the next track instead.
... Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I don't believe its possible.
The freebie urBeats headphones which you can also find online from phone stockists who separate out the bundles, include a next and previous track button. You might look for one of those instead.
The NEW urBeats headphones which are officially sold in retail packaging have 3 buttons but only the middle one does anything.
Even though HTC own Beats, they seem reluctant to issue an official Beats headphone with full track button support and instead favour iPhones/iPad support.
Only seeing 1 red button on the 'phones. Guessing all it does in 'answer' but I could be wrong. Think I need to RTFM

HTC supports next/previous buttons on the headphones. What it doesn't support is the volume up & down buttons since it was patented by iOS for their products. The only reason why this patent doesn't work on nokia/sony etc. Is because they are using different jack technology.
Sony, Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung etc. headphones does not work on iOS & HTC products and likewise. Well it works but not perfectly. The connectors in the ground and the left speaker of the headphone is switched to the opposite sides.

My phone was made in May and I am wondering if it includes the HDR microphone. Is there a way to check by way of a file other then just recording something really loud.
Just record something really loud... go sit in a car with the volume turned way up... up to the point your ears start to hurt
These Nokia mics are to die for

Easiest test to do is find a big ass subwoofer, put your phone near and record. If it comes out distortion free you're gold
Most of us here dont have the proper ear to actually test this out. I wish there was a method of actually finding out
I had to RMA my One today because the camera is blurry no matter what. Just will not focus.
When I receive a new one back from HTC, what are the chances I won't have the HDR mic? Any way to check the hardware (menu test, etc) to confirm?
Bumping an old thread up ... ive got the same question
I'm a HTC One user..and i had to search so many pages just to find out all the basic problems with HTC One device..so now i'm making a specific thread for this..
This list will help those people who are planning to buy HTC One, have planned to buy HTC One or have already bought HTC One.
I'm gonna list down the problems with this device in 2 categories..first the very common problem with the device and second the rare problems that only few people are facing..
This post will be regularly updated depending on the people comments..so if you have any problem with your device people do comment on this thread..i will read each and every comment and update the data..
Common Problems
1. Gap Problem : The gap between the speaker grill and the body..both at top and bottom. Since HTC is promoting this phone as 'ZERO GAP' phone..this manufacturing fault is unacceptable.. http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/628/img2897q.jpg
2. Camera Problem : I have personally faced this problem.
Picture : http://i.imgur.com/vQ0b0np.jpg
Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p7a9tdNVYo&feature=youtu.be
Thread for this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
This problem is noticeable when you take pictures in low light. By default if you take a picture in a dark room..the picture should be black..since no light source is available..but in defective HTC One it's red/purple.
Again this is totally unacceptable since HTC has marketed this phone as the best phone for low light pictures..
3. Loudspeaker : This problem was there in my first device..when at maximum volume..there is a hissing sound from the speakers.. This sound/vibration is also visible when calling someone..or when you play music at max volume.
Again HTC has marketed this device as the phone with the best sound speakers..so i have no idea whether HTC has a Q&C dept or not..because the quality is really poor..
4 Dead Pixels : Many people have reported dead pixels..
5. Proximity Sensor: The proximity sensor is not working in few devices.
Other Problems
1. The home and back button weren't working properly..but after the update i think it's working fine.
2. Few people have noticed purple tint in the center of the pictures taken by the camera...
3. Mic problem
4. Death Grip
5. Cracked Camera Glass
There is no possible solution for the above issues..the only possible thing to do is to get it repaired or replaced..
I have already got one device replaced and will be getting another device replaced this week till i don't find a perfect device!
So please do let us know if you have faced any problem with your HTC one..so i can make a check-list for the new HTC One users..so that they can buy a defect free HTC ONE!
I had to return 1 phone because the back mic didn't work so I had no speakerphone. I have read that HTC has since changed the type of mic being used during manufacture.

The easiest way to test is to take a video in HD mode as it uses both mics to record video sound in stereo. During the recording run your fingers over the 2 mics one after another.
When playing it back you should hear the noises from your finger touching the mics.

Just for those who have no idea where the mics are..there are two small holes..

2. Top-Right Corner on the backside of the phone

Shouldn't there be an option to choose no issues? I slapped a Mophie case on my One and immediately rooted and flashed Android Revolution HD and have had zero issues. Coming from having every single iPhone since the very first I have to say I am really happy with this device. Freedom!!!

Well. Honestly, I don't see the gap issue since mine is black so I can't really tell. The only problem I've had is 7 dead pixels and with a 1080p screen, the only time I was seriously able to figure that out was in recovery mode at night when all the lights were out. So, I don't really see any major problems.
I have a flawless phone besides a bulging volume rocker and the biggest issue - TERRIBLE signal... No dead pixels that I've noticed, speakers sound fine, maybe a little buzzing but nothing out of the ordinary...
Coming from an S4... Which was flawless... I'm not happy about the signal issue and the usual fanfare of going through ridiculous steps to unlock the bootloader, get S-OFF, etc., but it seems like a decent device. Definitely a much better screen overall than the S4, not very laggy (I haven't gone to 4.2.2 just yet because I literally just started using it today but the S4 blew me away how quickly you could use it from power off to power on but the lag goes away after Sense loads) but I'm having radio issues all the way around (except the "death grip") - my GPS doesn't want to lock, mobile handshakes not only take forever but I can't get LTE with my case on, etc. And the speakers really aren't THAT impressive. The S4 is similarly loud although I heard HTC turned the volume down on a firmware upgrade because people were complaining they were too loud so who knows.
I just might have to start the damn warranty exchanges for the signal. *sigh* I see HTC's quality control has not improved over the years...

Just saw your video..and according to me this much drop is acceptable..the plastic part on this phone is meant for signals transmission..so if you block those areas..it will automatically effect the transmission..
Let's us wait for more response..

Please write a mail to HTC if you are unhappy with your device quality..

They should at least know the problems you are facing with this device!
I read lot of posts where people is asking himself if the nexus 5 vibration is normal or not (seems like a truck). I'm here to CLARIFY the question. I can do this because fortunately i bought 2 phones (1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend) and i have 1 faulty and 1 not.
To explain better i can 100% says that the sounds i listened into the defect thread is exactly like my phone (the faulty one - 32gb white) and the other one (32 gb - black) is totally DIFFERENT AND NORMAL, so guys i know lot of you are happy to have a vibrator in their hands but trust me and check with someone else you meet : is FAULTY ,the right one is normal, like any other phone (to be honest isn't a good quality vibration like my htc one for example, but it doesn't sound loud as the faulty).
and few words about this:
I know guys that everyone here loves google, me too, but i'm objective. If you sell a phone and for example os is not 100% stable, i can understand, i wait updates and it's ok; if you don't put a 2$ earphones inside, i can accept, but if you sell phones with dead pixels, dust under screen, faulty and crappy vibrator motors, faulty screens, faulty buttons with rattle, here is a question of QUALITY and PLEASE don't say me that the phone is low cost. I PAID 410 EUROS, not 100 and if go to a market and i buy a cheap phone (100euro) i don't have rattle or something like this. We can say that they don't do quality control process properly and that a BIG company like google MUST check this and the data that confirm my ideas is the form that users here have compiled: only 38% of phones are resulted with NO DEFECTS, all others with SAME PROBLEMS, so it's not just a feeling. It's a Real problem...
my suggestion is : DO RMA until it's possible, my MONEY wasn't with dust, or it wasn't rattling...
hope to have done a useful thing

it's okay, he's European.
I paused every single time i saw those "...". Damn it lol
Lol...I´d suggest waiting for the 2nd or 3rd charge or just replace the motor yourself (it is glued to the BACKPLATE, so it´s VERY easy ) - at the moment with my personal experience, there are more faulty motors than correct ones..it might just be something like the Power Button rattle, easy to fix. I have had hands on 5 devices (including mine) - ALL of them did that Chirping sound when typing on the keyboard ( all of them were black, if it matters ). So RMA´ing now will most likely not result in a perfect device. You just might get a worse one..
So again: Wait a few months and then RMA -> until then JUST DEACTIVATE the vibration on keypress - this is an easy fix as the chirping noise only occurs on very short vibrations rhythms (e.g typing on the keyboard)
Here a sound example what everybody is talking about:

Greetings and sorry for the bad English grammar - I´m European aswell :S
I'm very confused about what is written in the OP.
What is wrong with the vibration motors? I noticed mine is not as strong as the one in my GS3, but that's about it.

I just did a bunch of typing on the keyboard while keeping the phone near my ear to hear what it sounded like. I didn't hear/feel anything abnormal.
I tried slow one-letter-at-a-time and rapid typing.
Crap...I was hoping for it to be "normal"...guess I have to RMA then..what a DRAG! Waiting again for a new device and transferring ownership from the previous owner..seriously, why is this so hard, google?
