New to nexus from htc-need pointers:) - Nexus 5 General

Hello all! I finally kicked off Verizon and left for t mobile and now finally have a beautiful nexus. I'd like to think I was helpful over there, but I'm so lost. There is SOOOO much more development here than my old HTC phones.
Can anyone point me to some good battery friendly ROMs and kernels? What do you guys like? I'll be sure to check out the battery results thread to thanks, and I look forward to talking to you all!

Congrats on your new phone and welcome to the Nexus 5 forums!
There are no such things as battery friendly roms/kernels as the battery life pretty much depends on how you set up your device and the way you're using it! Browse here and there(especially the stickies) and you will stumble upon tons of info!

this http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/best-rom-kernel-threads-t2477889

I suppose I worded it wrong. I'm looking to tone down the confusion, as there are tons of options. Plus saying I'll be commenting all over the place. Thanks for the heads up though

[Q] Let's make a poll

Is there a poll about wich rom are we currently using??? It'll be good I think just to know what's the most popular...
I'd like to know why it has not been created. Will it be good to make one?
Wanna read your opinions.
Firefly 2.5 great

The only problem is that most people here switch from one ROM to another really quickly. Not only that, each ROM will change versions a lot so it's really hard to keep a track of what everyone is using.
It will get locked because best ROM threads are not allowed. The personal preference for me is not what you would potentially like...nor would your phone work the same as mine on every single ROM.
Exactly! There are good ROM reviews out, it would be best to have a read/look through these (especially the MobileTechVideos ones).
One other VERY CRUDE way I use is to check the number of views and replies a ROM topic has... It more or less tells me how popular a ROM is (like I said, very crude... and popular != best)
You want to know which ROMs are most popular? Just look at the ROM threads in Dev and see which ones have the most reads and posts. That's a pretty good indicator of which ROMs are being used by more people. No poll needed.
You are so right guys ... that's what I'm gonna do!
Thanks for your comments.

N7 coming in a couple days, question....

Hey guys,
Just bought a N7 yesterday, should be here in a few days.
Whats the best ROM/kernel combo for this thing?
I'm lazy, its Sunday, i don't feel like searching all over the place until i get two more cups of Joe in me.
Running xylon 10 and tiny kernel on my gnex now.
Thanks and stoked for my new toy.

Then Have those cups of Joe and get to reading.
There is no such thing as a "best rom" only what works best FOR YOU. And since none of us are you... How would we know what you would like the best?

YET AGAIN
ALL OF the roms and Developers are great. These people all work together a a community effort... They do all of this free of charge and are not in a competition. To me this is a very tasteless question to ask... Try reading thru the rom developers threads and device for yourself . Try a few if you must.. But Please do not ask people to just these Awesome Developers..
On another note Threads like these should be avoided.. We have a Off Topic Thread for such post and simple Questions..
Welcome to the Nexus Forum .. HELP us make this a the most awesome place for Nexus support and Development By keeping it CLUTTER Free and Supportive for all users....
Erica Renee ..
Congrats on your purchase. Quick question, did you get the nexus 7 with hspa+? Also, I'd have to say that the nexus 7 has been my best Android experience yet. I'm currently running MoDACo ROM and love it. There isn't too much out there for the hspa+ model but MoDACo runs great for me. Good luck...

These types of threads are not tolerated, as other posters said, roms are suited to each individual. What one my like, the other may not. So you'll just have to try out a couple after reading the rom threads.
Also, there's an off-topic thread you're more than welcome to ask in.
So without further adieu, thread is closed.

New ROMs.

Same old same old. I know a lot of people here love the vanilla android and that's OK. But I find myself thinking almost every ROM in the nexus4 forum is pretty much the same. Small tweaks and other features but for the most if you have seen one you have seen them all. I pray one day we get a sense port or maybe the optimus LG interface. At this point I would even rock touch wiz or motoblur. Anyway the point of this post was to get other peoples opinions on what they would like to see here in the nexus forums. Also if you known of any roms that really stand out and give a different look, then feel free to discuss or leave suggestions......

develop a rom yourself, ill try it. otherwise the post is rude to all the developers here, spending their own free time getting these roms to us. thats just my 2 cents.
OP, lets not do this....
And a lot of Members are happy with the Free Development being done, but I would suggest if you feel the work/ROM's are "same old", you can take up Developing and share with the Community.
Thanks

Asking for a rom built for gaming is apparently dumd.

So I asked the question is there any rom built especially for gaming and got judged as an idiot . Is my request so crazy? I mean I like gaming on my phone and I want my phone tweaked for gaming everyone uses their phone how they see fit. Devs make roms for various reasons such as bloatware removal, speed, theming, etc. What's so idiotic about wanting a custom rom built for the gamers? I'm sure all of you are geniuses and my question was so beneath you right . Well I got a pm and a dev is working on it so I guess I'm not as shallow as the judgmental trolls would believe me to be.
So you start a brand new thread? Seems like a waste.
And if you really wanted a ROM for gamers I would suggest that you learn to build ROMs on your own so that you can customize it exactly how you want.

Tablets work the best for games. They have the best support for controllers. Sprints offering a galaxy tab 3 lte for $49.

Calm down, bro. Nobody called you an idiot. There were just questions as to the actual need for a gaming-specific rom, when gaming works fine on basically any rom and there aren't really any apps that require power beyond what this phone already offers. If someone is building one, I wish them the best and hope the result gives you what you want. I just personally don't see the point.

Umm, No, if that was the question you asked.
But that wasn't the question you asked.
You asked,
Can someone make a rom that is built for gaming or is there one I'm missing

Nothing wrong with that at all. And acutally there are some that are better used for gaming and some even (I know of a couple for the E4GT) that were developed for it. You can find some by searching and then trying them for yourself. Then modifying them to meet your needs as best you can.
Thing is, is that you must remember that we can only read the words you write down how you right them. Words matter.
Also XDA is not about 'making things for you or anyone' it's about developers making things they like and sharing them with others to gain input.
Most often the developers here go out of their way to help and support others and teach what they know - hence the term developers forum.
Questions asked are not 'beneath' me or most.
However there is proper etiquette, decorum and respect. There are also rules for posting too.
XDA is super for those who have gone way out of their way to search, look, read, search/try/load and search some more to find what they're looking for.
You seem to have taken the advice in a personal negative manner and got butt hurt and had to start a new post just to show us..
Good luck.
Yes, it is in fact dumb, both the request and especially the way you asked it. First of all, what does a "ROM built for gaming" even mean? Do you want a ROM that plays games better? Is there a particular game that does not play well on what is one of the most powerful devices out there? What would a gaming ROM actually give you that the stock ROM does not?
It would be one thing if you came here and said that a particular game does not run well and asked if there is a ROM or configuration that can give an improvement, but you made a nebulous request and are surprised that people didn't particularly care for it. I'm not even a dev and I thought your request was in poor taste.
Enough trolling and such, some mod please close this thread. It seriously has no point to anything.
Thread Closed... PM sent please refrain from opening another thread.

Question bout roms

What's the best rom for the note 3 att I'm on 4.4.2 any suggestions I am confused bout which ones will work I'm not a new just confused any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I'm running DK is pretty solid. But there's other options to. I've tried a few but had to come back because of other ones separating group messaging. But all you can do is test the waters and see what's right for you.

A moderator will probably tell you
" XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation."
Or they might say " ROM comparison threads are not allowed.
We recommend trying a ROM, seeing if it fits your needs, flashing another ROM, see if you like it better, and then repeat over and over and over again. Flashing over and over is after all what XDA is about.*"
