[Q] Sony Xperia Z volumes up automatically/ power button dont work - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

cutting story short,
1. washed my phone (flaps tightly closed)
2. now volume increases automatically
3. then it is turned off automatically and booted in safe mode.
4. volume still increases and power button dont work
5. and now, it cant be opened by any power button combos
6. charging it causes it to vibrate 1 short - pause - 3 short - pause - 1 short - 3short and never stopping
7. laptop cant detect the phone..
help me please..

Are the water indicators still white? If so consider sending it to repair.
When did all this happen? It might help letting it run out of juice...

It should be better if you turn off your phone for a period of time to avoid malfunctioning. You can use a hair blower to get rid of water that might be present inside your phone. After that, take a deep breath as you turn on your beloved device. :good:

Power/lock button doesn't work

I woke up this morning, and when I press the (Power/lock) button, it didn't wake up the phone, after several intents I managed to unlock it by pressing it many times. What could be the problem?

It might be just the Rom! I noticed that OB roms has this lag before the screen wakes up. Or maybe it's a hardware malfunction. in any way you can remap your G-button as Power/lock!! And I recommend you doing it ASAP if you don't use the G/button, as if ever your power button REALLY stops to work, how will you lock/unlock it!?
I had this issue too.
While pressing hard in the screen, where the LG logo is at, made the button work.
I opened the phone, the flex connector was weak and didnt make good contact, but seemed ok... LG quality sucks.
I fixed it by tapping a bit of tape over the connector, so when closing the phone it makes some force over it.
I recommend thinking twice before buying LG again. My phone also dropped from a chair (half meter) and the camera broke up.
I also fixed it with a replacement...but...Life's Good

[PROBLEM] Broken Power Button. Need Fix.

As the title says, my Note started acting up weird. I could barely power the screen on, and sometimes when I wanted to power it off it'd get stuck and reboot ( because the button gets stuck for a long time, thus reboots the phone) and opening the power menu's.
I only have to touch the power button VERY lightly to activate it.
My temporary solve is to wake the phone with volume rockers and I've installed an app to power it off. But if I ever need to reboot the phone or just simply boot it up, I'm gonna have a problem. Same with getting in recovery.
Is this fixable in some store, or even by doing it yourself?
Thanks for reading.
seems of a physical damage issue. take it to a service and check what they say
the switch is replaceable or u could remap the power button to the home button that is what I did with same problem
SEARCH ....so easy a caveman can do it

Is it hard to replace by yourself? I already saw they sold it in a shop nearby for €20,- so that's not too bad.
Could you easily do it yourself? Then I'll order it and try that.
watch some videos about anatomy of note on you tube and decide yourself
you have to remove the board witch is not hard but then you have to unsolder the little switch and solder in the new switch so if you are comfortable with soldering then it is not that

Bootloop

hello, just a question. after installing the trinity custom rom, i installed the fullscreen toggle app. aftr that my phone just turn off, im not stuck on the sony logo, my phone shows the sony logo and after that, it shows again. i tried to hold the button at the back but it doesnt turn off the phone and doesnt vibrate.i hold it for 15secs and up but the phone turn off and turn on again after 2 secs. by the way, my phone is charging if i connect it to the charger. i cant connect to the flashtool. how can i fix my phone?
will i let my phone just become low battery for it to turn off and then charge it again? how long will it take for it to become low battery? my phone is heating up because of the on and off thing.please help me.
I had this issue and sent back to Sony under warranty, had notice to say should be back in 24-72 hrs.
If you don't have option to send to Sony try phone store and get them to remove battery and flash stock again....or if feeling brave do your self

Glad you got it sorted.
How did you turn off as your original post said you couldn't, just in case it happens again to me when flashing mods.

i hold on the power button (sleep/wake button) and the off button at the back. i hold them at the same time. after feeling 3 vibrations, release the power button. the device should turn off now. when you feel one vibration. it doesn't turn off the phone. the phone will just boot up again.
isnt there a soft reset button on the back of the phone (you know the button you use a pen to press it).

Hi, I have the same issue and I try this solution but it didn't work for me.
Because I want to try the trinity vengeance rom and I'm scared that if I have a bootloop, I can't turn off my phone.
Sorry for my english ^^

Hi, your problem is solved?
Edit: I found the solution in the other topic in Q/A.
I hold the power button with volume up and the off button at the back.
I wait 3 vibrations and the phone turn off. Thanks to xda community

Thanks to your guides I have found out a full solution for this. I'm come from Trinity...'s rom and have bootloop too.
1. Keep the device connected with PC by USB cable
3. Open and prepare a firmware in Flashtool
4. Flashtool notifies to have your phone connected in flashmode --> It's time to go
5. Press and hold combination of Volume Down + Power + Reset
6. After 3 times vibrating with GREEN Led blinking, have your fingers relaxed and your SP's been in flash mode then :good:
7. Bear in mind that you should be careful for the next time playing with Rom and mods!

Ok so i just got out of work and went to look at my phone and i pushed the power button and nothing happened. so I held the power button to see if it just shut off ad that also didnt do anything, so then i tried charging... still nothing, volume down + power... nothing. Can you guys please help me with this? I have absolutely no idea whats wrong, and it makes no sense because I literally hadnt changed or done anything with it all day, and i havent changed ROM's recently either(running Insertcoin 6.0.3 if that makes any difference).

Hold down both power button and vol down until hardware lights start blinking and keep holding until it reboots.

ugly.
if it's under warranty take it for repair.
For anyone returning to this thread looking for the solution to the qhsub_dload problem, i contacted HTC and the only way to fix it is to send it in for repair.

i am quite late... but if did it boot up using these tricks?
(original thread: [GUIDE][FIX] Solve Bootloops and no OS on phone!
Basic issues and troubleshooting? Here it goes
Q: I can't start up my device, not even the soft buttons are lighting up!
A: I know, it sound strange, but you have to do the following thing:
Hold your HTC One below a bright lights source and hold the power button for about 15 seconds or even longer. The charging light will light up. Then hold down the volume down button and try different key combinations!
Q: I still can't boot up my device!
A: Hold volume down and volume up button and the power button for about 90 seconds. If this doesn't work, try holding your phone below bright light again
could be memory problem
it could be a memory problem, do you have enough RAM? sometimes the phone also restarts if it lacks free RAM for its apps to be run

Completely bricked Xperia Z

I was just playing around trying to move apps onto my new micro sd card. I rebooted several times. But suddenly when I rebooted one more time, the screen turned black. It was supposed to reboot into recovery (CWM). So I tried to turn it on again. Nothing happened. I also tried to press power button + vol up. Nothing happened. No light when charging either. I really really really need some help

Does your phone vibrate when you press power + vol up? Can you get it into flashmode?
If your pc recognizes the phone as qhsusb_dload or something like qloader it's hard bricked and there's nothing left you can do..

No flashing LED, no vibrating, nothing.
I'm afraid to say this but it seems your phone is hard bricked... Try to do a rubber band across it so that the power button and vol up buttons get pressed all the time and plug it into your wallcharger. If that doesn't help bring it to your local sony service centre and let them repair it although they will very likely charge of a service fee.
Good luck mate!

Thank you, I will try that. It is really weird, the last thing I did was pressing the restart in recovery button.
I bricked my phone while trying to unlock bootloader (didnt wait for the command prompt to complete the process) and later my pc was recognizing it as qhsusb_dload. But my volume buttons were working and I used the Sony update service to restore it.

You should leave it for charging for a while and then check, maybe the battery is dead.

It is very possible, frequent restarts eat away alot of battery, and you never know maybe it was on while you saw a black screen thinking it was off.

I'm just saying, I've put my phone into the charger trying to charge it and turn it on. The LED won't turn on when I put my phone into the charger. I also tried the hard reboot keys power + vol up.

Then its probably very hard bricked. You should take it to Sony and let them figure it out.

Did you also try the rubber band method? Putting a rubber band across the phone so that power and vol up buttons are pressed while it is on the charger for several hours?

If you see a flashing blue light, when it is not plugged in, it's because the bootload was entered improperly and is in safe mode. The only way you can fix it, is to do a system wipe via Sony Companion and reinstall stock ROM. It's an Xperias way of bootlooping into a safe mode when it's locked.

Too bad Sony doesn't implement an ADB OTI. Otherwise you could flash ROMs even with factory lock and never brick it.
i am experiencing the same problem right now. hadn't touched the tablet in a couple weeks, i seem to remember turning it off because it was really low on battery and the charger wasn't near. now it is just a black rectangle.. LED never responds, charging doesn't do anything, doesn't show up on ADB or flashtool.
seems like it is some problem with the firmware or hardware since all the android devices i've owned have always charged (with the LED on) regardless of the condition of the software (hell my one x that busted open and the screen doesn't work still charges and hooks up to the computer)
i would love to get this fixed because sony tech support pretty much bent me over today.
