Hi,
My daughter is using the i8190.
The device is self rebooting itself, on an unknown basis.
The device was never rooted, and is using the original stock ROM (Android 4.1.2).
Nothing was installed recently.
The main suspect was the availability of free storage, but there is 1.07 Gigs of available storage, which is reasonable.
Another suspect is Whatsapp, in which she gets thousands of messages per day.
Any ideas what can cause those reboots?
Thanks!

It can be a cause of a used battery. Take it out and se if if it wobbles on a flat surface. If it does, replace battery asap.
There can be more reasons for this to happen, but battery is most likely to be your problem since it's not rooted or anything.
Don't know about Whatsapp, but maybe try to remove it a day or two to see if there is any difference.
The battery seems to be just fine.
I'll try to remove whatsapp (and disconnect my daughter from her friends world.. Hahaha..).
Hi
I had the very same problem with my stock ROM (4.1.2 also). Since I rooted and changed ROM I've seen these way less than when running stock.
A fiend's girlfriend had a major issue with her battery, it began to inflate to the point it can't be held on the phone. He bought her a new one and problem solved.
So my conclusion here is that S3 Mini's batteries are defective. They are cheap to replace, though. But now I confirm my suspicions.
The battery seems to be just fine, no visible inflates..
Currently, I've asked my daughter to remove some photos and I'll also remove whatsapp.. and see who the device will work
I would check my battery as I have a similar issue

I am running the stock V10c ROM with 0405 Baseband and root.
Until recently I had little to complain about, but since last Saturday my phone has a horrible battery drain.
It turns off within 6 hours after I unplugged it even tho I did not use it and it was sitting calm in my pocket. This happend for the third time now since Saturday.
I was suspecting the recently installed Vlingo or Google+ Apps, but after removing them I still have the same issue. I recalibrated the battery yesterday but the Phone turned off again today.
I recharged it just now and it got incredibly hot like it has never been before.... this is very strange.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Have there been any recently updated Apps that are said to cause battery problems (Google Maps got a recent Update...)?
Any suggestions?
(I hope that damn OTA update comes soon and fixes this otherwise I'll have to update it manually or will have to install a custom ROM.)
EDIT
I flashed MoDaCo's MCR Fr19 and the Problem is gone.
I guess a factory reset would have solved my problem as well, but since I had all the work with backing up and restoring anyway I have chosen to go with a nice custom ROM.
Everything works like a charm again!
I used to get horrible battery drain, and generally the battery stats would have a mind of their own and change at random..... sometimes a phone restart would fix this, sometimes not. This was the biggest problem I had with the phone, but by no means the only problem.
I was always on stock, but since flashing the newest Modaco ROM (FR19) I've not had a single problem, the phone actually works as the piece of high-tech gadgetry I expected it to in the beginning. It's been nearly 2 weeks since switching to a custom ROM, and finally I'm loving this phone. I was reluctant to do it earlier as I waiting for the official LG updates, but after all their tardiness I decided enough was enough and went Modaco.
My advice: if you're unhappy with the phone as it is, try at the very least 1 custom ROM (both Modaco and Cyanogen are popular) and see if it improves your experience.
I have this problem too sometime
Only solution is to turn off the phone and turn and everything become normal
But after sime day if use same happens again. I suspect there is a program start to run in bg non stop
Btw i am in fear edition 12.2

Ermmm.... correct me if im wrong, but to my knowledge v10c roms uses 622 RIL.. which has a 622 basebnd too.. why are still on 405 baseband? I really recommend 622 baseband as its the least power hungry baseband I've used since 405, but then again, some other factors might affect ur battery too.. but alot of ppl give positive comments on 622 baseband
.. shld give it a try.

@Crofteh
I am generally a big fan of custom ROMs and always used one on my last android phone, but I liked the stock LG ROM enough to keep it until Gingerbread would arrive. I hoped to test official LG GB without wiping and then upgrade to a GB build of MoDaCo or CM.
That is what I thought, but who knows how long LG will still need for GB.
@Netuser
Thanks, I also suspect some App to uselessly run non stop as the phone feels warm near the camera, which indicated SoC load.
@tablights
I have the unbranded German version which came with a V10b ROM and a baseband number I forgot. After updating via the LG PC tool it changed to V10c and 0405 Baseband. Since that there was no official Baseband update for my phone. As far as I know, the German Vodafone branded phones got the 622 Baseband in last weeks update.
I will try to manually update to V10e via KDZ updater since it apparently does not wipe in the procedure.
Should the issue still persist I'll give MDC r19 a try.
I think the best bet to avoid the heating problem is to remove the micro SD card. Or try another one not greater than 8G. Don't use 16G or 32G - less costly for you if it burns out.
How is that related to the SD card? My 16GB card worked flawlessly all the time.
Same here
Hi,
I had exactly the same Problem, Phone got incredibly hot, was always warm even in airplane mode and died after 5h in stand-by. I tried all Basebands, different ROMs, reseted the battery stats several times, tried charging and uncharging several times. I logged the battery usage and got it down to maybe 20mA which should give me something like 75h in standby, still the phone shut off after 5-6h. I didn't use a SD-Card so it had nothing to do with that and it didn't change with different Software so i'm sorry to report: it may be a hardware problem. Either the battery broke or the handset itself didn't survive the temperature and is now draining (you could try another battery).
I sent my in and DHL lost the packet so no more Info from my side
btw, i also had the german version bought at Amazon.
Good luck finding the Problem !
I hope it won't be necessary to send it in. At the moment I am trying to rule out all possible causes. I signed out from the google labs project that lets you download parts of maps, since I activated that shortly before the problems begun and I could imagine that constantly downloading maps could cause high battery drain.
I have no time to do a custom ROM install including all backup and restore stuff atm as I am busy writing my diploma thesis for the next two weeks. But I will try that if nothing else helps. If that does not help, I will send it back.
Did you get an replacement or a refund?
If you got a replacement, does it have any issues like backlight bleeding ?
If you got a refund, did they pay the price you bought it for or the price it costs now? Cause there is a steep difference in price from then to now.
Juice Defender?
I had the problem and the problem is solved after I install juice defender.
I'm still in the process of getting a refund.
I think they will pay what i payed. But it is exhausting getting them to do anything and while i do that I'm back to my good old and terribly slow G1
Good luck with that!
Would be nice if you could let me know how this was resolved so that I can decide what is the best way to go should things not get better.
Thanks!
hey all,
i got my galaxy note now 3 weeks ands it's rebooting random all the time. at a service point i let them do a factory reset but that did not work. does anybody know a solution for this problem? because i dont like to send my note cause i will not have a few days sow if anyone got a solution i like to try it.

Suffering from the same here
I think its related to one of the apps - I will start removing my installed apps one by one from tonight - Will keep you posted with the updates.
Also, if anyone out there had the same issue; please advice!
I had the same issue on previous android devices..I managed to get around it with numerous hard resets. Also I believe that a certain combination of apps will cause it too..but i don't know which ones. I've got a dell streak right now, and its been stable for a few months..having said that, it still randomly reboots once in a while but no where near the consistency it used to.

I had this problem too and it seems to be an installed app problem, particularly any that change the wireless settings in some way or apps that stall when accessing the external SD card at boot times.
this is exactly what happens to me guys, same problem.
Random reboot and this happens all around the clock, no matter if it is day or night or if the phone is in flight mode...
Frankly I don't want to uninstall my apps one by one to check what app is causing the issue because I have no time to spend on it...
I hope that someone with more software skills than me (I am just an user) will succeed to fix it...
cheers.
Do you have Dolphin browser installed?
If it's the case, don't search further...
What's the problem with dolphin browser? I constantly use it and never had a restart. Is OPs phone overclocked or undervolted?
Which rom and kernel are being used?
mine is also rebooting every once in a while for no apparant reason. Mostly when I unplug it from the USB cable but not always. This happened from the first day on. I never did a factory reset but considering it now since the SMemo app is not working anymore (no strokes are visible) and I am out of options.

why would you need to pay anything if the phone is under warranty ?
I also have this issue, I found out that its the power button..

Dolphin is a well known app for causing random reboot, since SGS 2.
Not for all users but for many:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321612&highlight=randomly
But without Dolphin installed, I really don't know...
I think it's the SD card causing these problems.
My reboot problems all disappeared when I removed the 32Gb sandisk card. I replaced it with a 16Gb card and was very careful about which apps I installed on it. Now whether it was the card size/brand or the selective apps that resolved the issue I can't be sure. Having Dolphin's cache on the phone memory instead of the SD card might also be a solution.
But it's worth investigating if you have reboot problems with external card installed.
Hi guys,
As soon as I got my Note, I rooted it and flashed a custom rom. Never had problems with reboots so far.
So, for a change I though setting it beck to stock was a good idea, with the upcomming ICS update.
As soon as I flashed the stock rom with odin, and it was back to factory situation, the reboots start happening. Every 3-6 hours the Note rebooted. Got in contact with Samsung (NL) and suggested to execute a factory reset, so I tried that a couple of times. But no luck, the reboots keep happening. I thought maybe it was an hardware issue. I have no Sdcard, only my SIMcard, which was a bit warn out, so I order a new SIM. But still, the reboots keep happening.
Then I decided to root my device again and flash a custom rom (Rocket-Rom), and guess what? No more reboots!!!
I hope this helped.
To me, I think automatic reboot is somehow still acceptable. I experienced two times auto power off. Both were happened after I charged it over night, unpluged the charger and left it without unlocking the screen, drove to my work place, and found it dead
I'm only having it for 2 weeks and I haven't rooted it.
it maybe a usb charging issue which is causing so much grief to many note owners. Mine has a defective usb port and it makes my note go crazy, including reboots and makes the note think its charging when its not even connected to charger at all.
Using note since dec... Faced such problem 5 or 7 time whn my phn was nt rooted... But nw its working fine... Using rocket rom v 20...

Hi
I am new to Android world. So please handle with care
I used to use an iPhone. Recently (bout 3 weeks ago) I bought a galaxy note and am loving it.
I was going through a lot about Android system and found out 'rooting a phone'.
so I rooted the note and installed Rocket rom v22, GoLauncher Ex and few apps like Setcpu, Adfree, Bank, Xchange etc. I don't have games or many apps on my phone.
My phone turns itself off randomly every now and then. during phone conversation it rebooted itself once so far. and when my phone is stand-by, I found my phone is turned off.
I am not sure why it's happening. Is there any settings i shouldn't set?? or ???
Could anyone please tell me how to fix this issue?
If the phone is faulty, I need to make my phone as the same as when I first got which I am not sure how to :-( yet
The first thing to do is go completely stock. Flash the lastest stock rom and see if that fixes the problem.
When using ICS ROMs there's a known bug called Sleep of Death (SOD) that is similar to what you're experiencing. The phone simply won't turn on the screen and you have to press the power button for several seconds to turn it on again.
Almost all GNote users experience this issue so don't worry about it. Going back to stock will not solve the problem.
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Before the rom v22, I had v19. my phone still did turn itself off several times. after flash the room v22, it didn't happen as many as v19 so I am not sure that the ICS causes the issue.
anyway, I will try the one you suggested and see how I go.
Thank you

I am more worried about the alarm. if the phone turns itself off while i am in sleep, i won't be able to hear the alarm going off.
well if that happens again, i might have to get a alarm clock.
i was thinking of setcpu app might cause the issue... not sure though.
Thanks for your help
I experience the same issue when i was running stock. I've tried several stock versions but the problem still exists.

I have definitely never ever experience SOD when the phone is stock and lock.
The only time i did experience SOD is when i change to modded kernel.
I'm running stock with cf root and have never ever experienced this, so not all notes are affected. That would really suck!

Never had Sleep of Death on stock rom.
I am on stock ICS Rom n it has happenedwith me twice.
My GNote goes dead randomly and only starts up after pulling out battery.
Weird!
Install an ICS from Clean
Start from a Stock ICS rom using PC Odin, then follow my Post as follow :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26772618&postcount=12
Try another rom other than that you had, or a higher versionof it.
The MIDTEAM v1.4.2 is Good and Stable.
Good Luck
I had this problem most of ICS ROMs on my Galaxy Note. SO I guess it's an ICS related bug and it is very uncomfortable to have to reset it to unlock it .
I too have tried several Stock ROMs but it still gets into the Sleep of Death at least once a day.
I guess that it should help to have a Kernel that changes the Deep Sleep settings...
Of my 2 GNotes, one of them had this problem. Happens when you put the note on the table with small drop or whatsoever.
The problem disappeared when inserted 3-fold 80g paper between battery and the edge of battery compartment. The battery tolerance is not so tight so when small drop (like putting on the windowsill) happens, the phone shut down.
The problem completely disappeared after inserting paper.
Of course, more professional would be go to Samsung repairs and show it and ask for replacement - either battery or phone internal casing. You can reproduce the problem by turning the screen on and dropping phone 10cm into hard surface.
But I did not bother.
I won't say that yours has exactly the same problem. But check the tolerances of battery 1st. Sometimes solutions are too obvious to see 'em.
I upgraded from stock to CM9 3 days ago and my Note has turned off several times a day since then. Never before upgrade, so I don't think it has to do with battery being loose in its compartment - not in my case.
I am loving ICS, but I will have to downgrade to gingerbread to get rid of this irritating bug.
this is happening to my galaxy nexus!!! yeah it turns off at random like sleep of death and small drops can trigger it. if i knew this could happen i would have never rooted
lol root itself has nothing to do with it.
if small drops cause it, and paper adding in compartment fixes it. its the gap between battery and whatever should fixate it.
if it occurs during deep sleep, dig into logs what you can find there. Also check roms/kernels feedback if others have it with that version. Many ways to illiminate possibilities.
I miss some good analyzes in this is issue from those experiencing stuff. Android I guess is not user friendly that way.

Galaxy Note Sleep of Death on 4.1.2 JB
I'm still trying to figure this out... I had hoped that with Samsung Stock upgrade to 4.1.2 it would be fixed but its not... anybody still experiencing this problem?
Things that I have tried
Move all apps from Internal SD Card (USB) and format
Factory Reset
Paper wedge between battery
Opened and re-connected all connectors to Motherboard
Install CPUSpy (deep sleep is OK)
I'm at wits end now, and this problem is very apparent. I havn't wanted to flash to a custom rom, because I've seen reported that it still happens with whatever ROM whether stock or custom
Any more ideas on how to make the Sleep of Death go away?

Please, any ideas?
Hi I have a strange problem with my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (I9000M) running 2.3.3 stock.
Description:
a) Booting the phone would show the big S animation and bong sound however after that the animation repeats in a loop with no more sound. The phone never reaches the home screen. I notice this mostly in the morning when I wake up.
b) Usually during the morning when I wake up to check the time the screen doesn't turn on but it seems as if the phone is still working; the chime for plugging in the charger sounds. (I thought the battery was dead but it was actually at 60%)
What I've done so far:
a) I brought it back to the vendor and got a new phone.
b) Holding the power button would turn off the phone, then I would turn it back on. Sometimes it requires that I pull out the battery which results in losing all my data on the internal memory like a factory reset.
Question:
I'm highly concerned. I've gone through two of these phones and problem "b" is always a prelude to problem "a". I'd like to know if there is a possible solution and/or what the problem might be?
Note:
a) The problem started happening a day or so after I started using Samsung IM. (Skype was installed but never used)
b) The problem started the morning right after I installed Skype. (I have since uninstalled Skype, it's still happening )
You should not be losing data on your SD card by pulling the battery.
Did they give you a new phone or a refurb?
What's the build number of your phone? Should be a number under the battery in YY.MM format.
Hi Black Rose
I was talking about the internal memory not the sd card.
It's a new phone.
The build is 11.11.
If you are running stock 2.3.3 and having those issues, I think the phone is faulty.
My wife is running 2.3.3 on an 11.03 build and has no problems.
The fact that you are losing data when you pull the battery sounds like the internal memory is failing.
Alright, thanks. Do you have an idea what causes the screen to not turn on for the second phone? (This new one doesn't loose internal memory on battery pull)
I had that happen to my own phone (also an 11.03) once with Froyo 2.2 and once with 2.3.3.
With Froyo I was able to plug in the charger and the phone "woke up".
The only time it happened on 2.3.3 I received a couple of notifications at the same time and had to power it off to get the phone to work again. It never happened again in the several months I was running 2.3.3.
Okay!
Thank you Black Rose for giving me some useful information. I was just worried that this would lead to something a lot worse.
Much appreciated!
This is my 3rd phone had the exact same problem as you I heard it was something with the mother board there is a board in here dedicated to the problems with the gt-i9000m

Hi, i'm trying to find out what is the problem with my friend her samsung s5 mini, (running android 4.4.2, full stock unrooted).
Almost every day her phone freezes for no reaseon and needs battery to be pulled or it simply random reboots while she sleeps and then her alarm doesn't go off in the morning as the phone is waiting for her pin number after restarting (she says turning of the pin is not an option).
Is there someone who found a solution for this or what might cause the problem? i told her to install an app to auto clear background apps and also suggested to take out micro sd card for testing but the problem remained.
Also factory reset didn't solve the problem

This seems to be a common error with the S5 mini. There is a whole thread in the German Android forum about this issue. Also the German Amazon product page for the S5 mini has about 40 users complaining about this problem.
Some users report that the reboots start after some weeks of usage. First it just reboots once per week, then it gets more frequent until it reboots once per day.
Factory resets or firmware updates do not help. Some users sent their phone in for repair but not with huge success.
But not every device is affected by this. So far I did not notice that behavior with my phone (G800F).
I guess it is a hardware issue as not every device is affected and the error gets worse after some time.
The only way to diagnose what's wrong with the device is to check the adb and kernel log (at least the last kernel log before reboot might be available at /proc/last_kmsg). But this would require rooting the device which in turn would void the warranty. It would also be interesting if those reboots also occur with CM 12 (installing this will also void your warranty).
So it seems that sending the device in (without a great chance of repair) is the only option that Samsung gives you without loosing warranty.
Alternatively you also might want to wait for the official Lollipop release and hope that this will fix the problem.
If someone with this problem already rooted his device it would be interesting to get the log files (adb + kernel) of the times of the crashes.
Thanks for your reply, so it might be a hardware problem after all
