How come mine doesn't auto update? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I'm still figuring one the HTC One (M7) that I got, and I'm pretty new to this so I apologize if my questions are basic, and I would really appreciate your help! I looked through a ton of material on this forum and other websites, and been exploring my phone but I haven't gone to unlock the bootloader or flash anything yet, since I am worried about the repercussions of doing something wrong and bricking my phone.
Long story short, I bought my phone off Amazon, its an AT&T unlocked version, and I recently found that this meant I cannot make use of the hotspot tethering function. If it matters, I am primarily going to use my phone in Singapore.
Here's my phone info:
Code:
C:\fastboot>fastboot getvar all

My first question is:
My software version is stated as 3.17.502.3
However on the HTC website for HTC One ATT version it says the latest software version is 5.12.502.2
But when I run the AT&T Update on my phone, it says that no updates are available.
Why is this so...
The second question is related to the first:
Since I am going to use the phone primarily in Singapore, should I just flash it to a non-ATT ROM, which would presumably remove the 'lock' on tethering? If I choose to do this, do I need to change the CID (using SuperCID or other means) to enable me to flash to another ROM? I just need the vanilla HTC Sense without all the useless ATT add-ons.
Thanks for your help!

Ok custom Rom will cover your every need
ARHD MaximusHD are custom Rom based on stock Rom & not modified much & don't have crap carrier add on
So you have to unlock boot loader install custom recovery
Install custom Rom
I saw your hboot still on 1.55 so get S Off using firewater it will so much beneficial
& you're not happy with custom Rom then you can convert it to any other country Rom
Unlocking boot loader
Install custom recovery
Install root
S Off
Change CID according to your needs
Change MID according to your needs
Flash stock ruu exe or ruu zip according to your needs
That's it

Thanks for your reply...
i actually spent the whole night up last night figuring it out and reading all the info here and other sites.
In the end I managed to
unlock bootloader
install custom recovery TWRP
install root SuperUser
flash to Android 4.4 KitKat Sense 5.5 (stock from HTC)
it seems to be working okay and i did not need to S-off or change CID/MID (which i feared would result in bricking, since those seemed much more advance)
I took a small gamble since my Hboot was 1.55 and i didn't know how would differ from other versions which the guides used, but so far it seems like things are alright.
was a fairly steep learning curve since this is literally my first smartphone and I had no idea about 85% of the jargon.. but after a while I managed to figure most of it out haha.
but really appreciate your help too! thanks!

Cid mid change not brick your phone
Modified firmware cause brick
Must do S Off
If you stay on your stock Rom WiFi hotspot will available ?

[q] htc one bicked - start up loop (cant find ruu file)

I'm a complete newbie to this XDA so would appreciate any help possible.
My HTC One is Bricked and wont go beyond the HTC logo screen.
I've look at all the different forums and threads and I cant find one particular thread to guide me through the process.
The simplest way I can tell to get my phone back to stock without rooting and doing s-off is to use a ruu file, but I cant find one any where for my phone.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction:

There is an RUU for your One. The only issue is that ur S-ON and the RUU is for a lower firmware version than the one you have. To flash the RUU, you will have to downgrade your firmware, which needs S-OFF
Post the output of your getvar all. It'll help a lot
And do u have custom recovery?? What exactly did you do which bricked the phone ??

Hello, Thanks for helping out. I have a taiwan build of the phone, for some reason I got the message prompt to upgrade to kitkat and sense 5.5 ( the release isnt officially out in my region) I'm thinking I got it because of the firmware build of my phone, once i tried to upgrade thats where the stall happened.
To get S-Off i need to root my phone from my understanding is this correct ? I dont have a custom recovery will post the get var here.
Thanks again.
Since you bricked your phone, I'm going to safely assume you were at least on an unlocked bootloader. If that's the case, you can download the TWRP recovery image onto your PC and boot into it off your phone with the fastboot command "fastboot boot (recovery name).img". Once there, you can go to TWRP's advanced settings and turn on ADB sideload to install a ROM. After that's done, go back into fastboot and flash the boot.img from the ROM separately before booting the ROM for the first time (since you're S-ON). That should get your phone back on.
My friend did the same thing the other day and that was how I got theirs working again.

That only works on hboot 1.44, "fastboot boot ...." was patched/broken after 1.44.

That's not needed on the M7, it'll get flashed automatically during the install even with S-On.

Which RUU file do you recommend I can downgrade to. The version I have is 3.63.709.3 is there a site with ruu files. I have the latest ota file from the htc website, is the ruu file in there ?
Will try the procedure today and re post here.

[Q] Flashed Wrong RUU Trying to go back to Stock, Booloop and Recovery Won't Work

Hey guys and girls. A little backstory:
New to android
Use Cyanogenmod Installer
Get Purple Camera. Need to go back to stock.
Stumble upon guide by nkk71 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
Botch last step
So I found an ruu with my CID and MID, but it was the GPE ruu not the ATT RUU! The ATT RUU zips don't list CID and MID so I assumed I should not use them and all that matters is matching those.
I had locked and went back to s-On when following the guide.... big mistake.
I've since unlocked and tried to root so that I could go back to S-Off.
Flashed several different correct recoveries and none will work. I am erasing the cache, but nothing works. I've tried the most recent versions of CWM and TWRP and can't get anywhere.
What should I try next?

Sorry to hear that, I thought my guide was pretty clear
please post
1- a fastboot getvar all (excluding IMEI and s/n)
2- a screenshot of your bootloader
3- more details of what you have flashed (with links to the threads)

Your guide is very good and I thank you for it. I just messed up. I think it would be good to clarify that a person should reboot after flashing RUU before going back to S-On. I had the impression that was my only chance to go back S-On.

Technically, you can, but shouldn't reboot the OS because of the OTA notification, which may make it tempting to take, but I'll try and rephrase the guide.

bootloader is unlocked, good... do NOT try and lock it!!
reflash TWRP and a custom ROM (you can try ARHD 31.6 or similar), and get S-OFF using rumrunner and/or firewater
i'm off for tonight, sorry about the mess
The stock att RUU's would almost certainly have the stock CWS_001 Cid. You just need one that is the same or postdated to your current hboot version since you are s-on now. Unfortunately, now that you are s-on, you will also need to relock the bootloader to flash an RUU. I would do that and then use firewater/rumrunner/latest s-off method to get s-off and unlock boot loader. Then you want to fix the "relocked" flag to "locked", and s-on again, and get it repaired.
I would try to get S-OFF where you are now.
I'll keep this here just in case
Otherwise, you can use the 3.xx RUU.EXE: http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
this will upgrade to hboot 1.55, and rumrunner and/or firewater should work on it.
(remember you need to relock bootloader for that to work with S-On, that's why i'm recommending to try where you are now, so you don't lock bootloader)
there is also a 4.xx RUU but do not use it, because it will upgrade your hboot to 1.56, making it even more difficult to S-OFF.
and once you're S-OFF, you should use this ruu.zip for my guide (which is for PN0712000 + CWS__001):

I was able to get TWRP (newest version) and ARHD (31.6) running. I then got S-OFF using Firewater. I'll use the RUU and follow the guide again.
I saw another one of your posts that suggested S-OFF may not effect warranty claims. Any further thought on that?
Thanks again for all your contributions.

It's really very country/carrier/people specific, in theory, S-Off shouldn't matter as some phones accidentally ship S-Off (ok, it's very very very rare), but S-Off shouldn't void warranty https://twitter.com/htc/status/377422743626842112
Then again, in practice some carriers/technicians may try to use any excuse to refuse warranty.

[Q] Htc M7 Soft Bricked Need Advice

Hi guys,
I have gone through the the forum and have read up on the issure, I have made some progress, I need some expert advice on the last few stages.
The Htc one M7 is soft bricked, i have unlocked the bootloder via the htc site, i know how to use ADB and fastboot command line. I have installed TWRP on the phone, now i can see my phone as a drive on my computer. the phone is still S-ON
What i want to achieve:
Put a stock firmware on the phone and thats that.
Not too keen on putting customs firmwares, if there is a Google Edition firmware, that will be a plus if not then the firmware with sense 5 or 6 etc.
The CID is 332 ( could this be an issue)
I just need the phone to work as normal with stock or google play edition stock.
Do i need to get s-on to S-off? whats the easiest way. what firmware would work for this cid-332, do i need to change my CID to get best firmware, these are the stages i need advice.
Thanks a lot guys.

you seem to have a carrier that has never released a RUU or any useful files really. Did you make a Nandroid backup of you stock software ?
If you have no backup the best you can do is just flash an international Rom that matches you firmware version like this one
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358543706
During install choose No to stock recovery and No to installing the Radio

you'll be able to flash it but you will never get ota uptades using this version because of your cid and mismatch between software version and firmware version.
Its not possible to return it to stock .599 so you should either s-off it and do a conversion to another version or use custom roms.

flash a close to stock rom and s-off using sunshine
once s-off, change you cid
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
then change your MID to PN0710000 using this tool
and finally, flash a x.xx.401.x RUU.
or if you prefer the dev edition version:
change cid to BS_US001
MID to PN0712000
and use the latest ruu 6.07.1540.2

and finally, flash a x.xx.401.x RUU.
or if you prefer the dev edition version:

Deleted OS with no backup (Solved)

Hello, guys. How you doing?
UPDATE: it's solved, i got back to stock rom after flashing this: https :// fl1.androidfilehost.com/dl/2k6GKx4IJOgIhD09zRzbzw/1441027324/95897840722641610/Reset_rom_6.07.1540.2.zip?
Now I'm going to do a BACKUP haha
I am with a HTC ONE M7 Internation/Unlocked Soft-Bricked, with no OS... Here are some information:
- Using TWRP 2.8.7.0 custom recovery for M7 (latest version)
- Unlocked bootloader
- Rooted (at least I did it before wipping my OS)
- S-ON!
- HBOOT v.1.57
- Already have ADB/Fastboot on my PC
- Modelid: PN0711000
- Cidnum: HTC__332
Here's my tale:
I tried to install RUU M7 Lollipop ROM, from HTC's website. But, at the very beggining of the instalation (4%), the RUU software said it lost my device. I did it while in fastboot mode, because it was the only way RUU recognized my phone. Then I could not install Lollipop ROM by RUU method, so I decided to flash a Lollipop ROM Unlocked Version for One M7.
I knew that for doing it I would need to install some custom recovery on my phone, unlock its bootloader mode and install on my PC ADB and Fastboot. I did all of this; the bootloader unlocked I did from HTC's website guide. So, I put on my phone a ROM in zip extension, boot it on recovery mode. I read that I should wipe data, cache, calvik cache and, maybe, system. And I did it... with NO BACKUP of original ROM --' I know I was stupid...
So I wipe this partitions, entered Install menu and tried to run instalation of the ROM zip file. It didn't work!!! Some error: "E: error executing updater binary in zip..." And I tried to flash different ROMs, all of them showed this error...
Then now I am with a Soft-Bricked HTC ONE M7 which has no OS. Some pics of my status: https: // w w w .dropbox.com/s/ruyen2ikn0u5i0u/Soft-Bricked%20M7.rar?dl=0
I hope you can help me
Please, help me :crying:

There is not much available for 6.15.599.101 version, you'll probably need to use custom roms or convert to another version. There is a 6.15.599.101 ruu available at irfile.com but you will need an acount to download it (paid account) http://www.ir-file.com/portal/index.php?dir=Firmware/HTC/HTC_Android/M7_U/

This rom is for the Developer edition version CID BS_US001 and MID PN0712000, By flashing this on your phone, you're far from being stock, you will not get any ota updates and be stuck on this version.

Oh, thanks :/
So, what is the best path to follow to get Lollipop? Should I pay 25 bucks for Sunshine, change my CID and try to flash correct Lollipop rom? Is there another way to get Lollipop rather that one?
Are there so many new and interesting features on Lollipop or should I stay on KitKat 4.4.3? I don't know so many custom good roms; can you recommend me some?
Sorry for asking so much questions. I know, probably I'm bothering you '-'
PS: Now my system asks for an OTA update to Lollipop, but it's not possible... Probably due to what you said about my flashed rom being Developer edition's one.

Either pay for sunshine so you can change your CID / MID to convert your phone to another version using a lollipop RUU or pay for an account at ir-file.com so you can download the .599 ruu and then take all ota updates.

Many ppl likes lollipop and probably as many ppl doesn't like it. I think its better to try it yourself and see what you prefer. Some ppl likes the new features and other ones are complaining about battery drain and lags.

All custom roms are good, it all depends what features you need. The best you can do is to read some rom threads and choose one that fit what you need, try it a few days and if not liking it, flash another one. If you want good battery life and no lag, I would recommend GPE roms, if you need what HTC Sense have to offer, then choose a Sense based rom like ARHD, Maximus, InsertCoin, NuSense ....

Because your CID and MID doesn't match the rom version you have flashed. Developer edition is for CID BS_US001 and MID PN0712000, yours is HTC__332 and PN0711000, In order to receive ota updates, you must be 100% stock either be flashing the .599 ruu for HTC__332 / PN0711000 or by achieving s-off, changing your CID / MID and flashing another version ruu e.g: changing your cid to BS_US001, your MID to PN0712000 and flashing a dev edition (.1540) RUU.

I was reading about Android Revolution HD, it seems good. I really like Blinkfeed (Highlights) so I guess I wouldn't flash a ROM which doesn't have it. I think ARHD got Blinkfeed, right?
Can I flash this ROM on my phone? As far as you know about my specs.

Upgrading to stock from custom 4.4.3 ROM via RUU

Hello,
I have a number of questions before I jump in and update my phone, so I'm hoping to get some advice on the best way to upgrade from a 4.4.3 custom rom (ARHD 83.1) to the latest stock (rooted) rom - it looks like the custom 6.0 roms aren't so stable at the moment, so best to avoid them for now?
I'm also looking to update my radio with the hope of getting a better signal, or is the radio not really affected by the rom version? Hoping to get better battery life and general stability too.
I understand that I can't just install a custom 5.0.2 rom (e.g. ARHD 93.0) or custom 6.0 rom via recovery (as I normally would do) because of firmware/radio miss-matches? I need to update this first (must be S_OFF) before I can flash.
Some details:
M7_UL
HTC_039
Unlocked
S-ON
HBOOT-1.44.0000
Current: 6.09.401.11 / 4A.14.3250.13
Carrier: Telstra (AU)
From what I can tell, my two main options are either using ruu.zip/ruu.exe or Guru Reset.
I'm S-ON, so I can use Guru Reset, but I can't seem to find the latest firmware with this.
I understand I can flash ruu.zip/ruu.exe with S-ON if the firmware is newer?
Am I better off going S-OFF now (it's easier while on 1.44?)? Do I need to be S-OFF?
How do I know which firmware version to choose? Can I jump straight to 7.19.401.2?
Will OTA work after this?
Does it matter if I use x.xx.401.x (WWE?) or x.xx.908.x (Optus?) or x.xx.841.x (Telstra??) ... I don't want any carrier software, but I would like the best radio for my carrier (Telechoice/Telstra).
I understand that HTC_039 is Optus, but my current firmware is using WWE - these don't have to match?
So, if I need to do S-OFF, should I just use revone using this method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4BWxtjaamM and this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63834144&postcount=6943 .. or using the toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364445 ?
Then, which is the preference for ruu.zip vs ruu.exe? e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybu7fZa41so
Once all is installed, I can re-root and install xposed for stock rom tweaks? I may or may not need to reinstall TWRP...?
I'd just like to be sure of what I'm doing before I start as there's so much information out there and I don't want to brick my phone!
Any help and advice is much appreciated - thank you!

I've just spent the last hour trying to get fastboot working on Windows 10 with no luck (adb was working, but not any more). Is there any other way of getting that information?
I'll keep trying anyway, I'll need it. . .

You could use the 1.29.980.2 CWM backup to restore your phone back to stock and from there you could either attempt to s-off your phone using Revone and do whater you want (like converting your phone to another version) or simply update your phone until you are on the latest version for your phone.

Thanks for this. I'm currently running TWRP, but it looks like there's only a CWM version for this.
So, do I need to S-OFF? If I do this, and don't S-OFF, do I just get all the OTA updates, or is there something else that needs to be done for that to work?
To confirm, I can't just install the latest 5.0.2 ARHD over the top (with full wipe), because of firmware differences?

You need to use CWM recovery to restore CWM backup so you'll need to flash that recovery. You don't need S-OFF to flash the recovery, restore the backup and update your phone but if you want it, better to do it before updating. After restoring the backup, you'll need to flash back the stock recovery over CWM so you can install ota update. The stock recovery can be extracted from the ota update, download it and select "install later". Once downloaded, go to your Downloads folder and copy the zip file starting with "ota" to your computer. Open the zip file and you'll see another zip named "firmware.zip", extract that one to your desktop and finally open the firmware.zip file and extract the recovery.img file from it. This file is the stock recovery to be flashed before trying to install the previously downloaded ota update.
You can't install latest ROM (sense + lollipop) because your firmware is to old. Doesn't matters if its a x.xx.401.x or x.xx.780.x base but it must be 7.xx.xxx.x
Awesome, thanks for the guidance
Again, to clarify - is S-OFF something I need, or do the risks outweigh the benefits, once everything is up to date? Once S-OFF, this will remain S-OFF? Best to do this first while still on a rooted ROM, before loading stock nandroid?
Sorry for all the questions, but your help has been great, thanks!
