Unfortunately you're going to have to do some more reading. I know it's frustrating, but ask the information is there. There are no short steps, it's a long process and takes time to learn.

PS. You need to be on stock unrooted ML2 in order to install the 4.4.2 update.

Also search, search, search before posting and read read read before rooting to avoid making a $700 paperweight.

Wow I feel like a horse's ass for asking this but it's probably been a year since the last update I flashed, and I've googled and googled for info but I'm googled out. I also checked the dev section but I dont see what I'm looking for so forgive my stupid question: I'm getting the incessant 2.3.6 OTA notification so I need to update to 2.3.6, I'm on 2.3.4 I think it's a stock version. I tried flashing the 2.3.6 update zip that i downloaded, that didn't work and from what I think I remember that was a stupid thing to try anyway. I'm pretty sure I'm looking for a full 2.3.6 stock rom/build/zip, but I've had no luck in my search. Basically I just want the latest rooted full stock rom to flash. My bootloader is unlocked or I would honestly just unroot and install the OTA, I've no use for root anymore anyway. Can anyone throw me a bone? Thanks

or
if you want back to stock, flash this (in recovery or in HBOOT as PASSIMG.ZIP, whichever way you want):

All the guides for flashing are in the Wiki, please read before further questions. Thanks.

Awesome, I appreciate your help
Hi guys!
I noticed today that there were a system update for my optimus 2x.
But after it downloaded it said validating software package and returned an error stating that the package was invalid..
Has anyone else bumped into this problem? Is it because my phone is rooted?
It is otherwise stock.
Thank you so much for your help!

Okay.
So can i ask how do i unroot the phone using CWM?
I looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021554&page=2
it talks about installing a recovery.zip using CWM, but will it unroot the phone or not?
Thanks!
The name says it all and it is sticky in dev section...

Hi and thanks for the answer!
you see, my phone is already rooted. I need to unroot it in order to get the latest update from LG installed on my phone.
The reason for this is that when i download the update OTA and try to install it, i get an error message stating that i have a invalid software package.
And the reason for this as i understand, is that the phone is rooted.
i have read the roll up thread you linked to, but it does not state anywhere how to unroot the phone. And thats what i need help to do
Use smartflash and put some older version on it, then update it to current version. It will be unrooted.
Thank you for the answer, will try that!
But im struggling a bit to find the older versions though. The links to them are either down or broken. I need the EUR version.
You can flash stock v20q via cwm. If you said that your phone is rooted, install cwm and then flash this stock v20q.
If you want to downgrade, then update using lg update tool, you need smartflash and some older firmware like Euro v10d.
You need to read and search, really, all is here on the site.
At least press the thanks button if my posts are helping you, it is right here.
Thank you for the reply.
I will flash with the v20q one you mentioned. Its the version im trying to upgrade to anyway, så this seems better instead of downgrading it to stock, then upgrading using OTA!
So i rooted and had custom roms on my Z1 lastyear but had to go back to origional due to network issues i had and left it stock since going through rooting it and the whole process i didnt want to do again.
the problem i am having is the original threads that I looked up ALL the download links for the files required and Nut's .ftf are unavailable...
is there any new links threads that im missing out on? i looked at the thread on the development forum but same deal , dead links
currently sitting at
C6906
4.3
3.4.0-perf-g4f35567
14.2.A.0.290
i believe this is the rom i need to downgrade to hence why i didnt update.
any help would be appreciated. i can use the guides for the process and commands to use inside flashtool, i just need the correct files so i dont have the incorrect network problems i had before, and i dont want to brick my phone either.

Ok so you should first download Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip, just google it, I cant put links up.
Unzip it and execute the install script, make shure you activate USB Debbuging, it will ask you if you are rooted or not, if not it will still install custom recovery and you can root from there, you can also flash custom roms from there.
just a few things i gotta clear up if someone could answer :
Since im on a locked bootloader, which development thread do i use...
do i flash custom kernals or no? (pretty sure this would brick since the bootloader is locked?)
i know how to flash customs i just dont wanna go through the process of soft bricking and getting flashmod and sony to restore it like last time...
Edit:
i can get it rooted, and dual recovery installed... but every rom i try to install (even when it says its compatable) i get a sony logo or nothing at all...
do i have to update to 490 first?
Hi ya'll,
This is my first post! (I actually made an account just for this purpose) Without taking the time to read all of the information available to me on the forums, I, rather stupidly, tried to downgrade my g900a device running lollipop to 4.4.2 kitkat. In that process I managed to soft brick my phone due to the locked bootloader and whatnot. In order to restore my phone to a workable state, what I've gathered is that I need to flash a stock version of the lollipop rom (no root) for the g900a onto my device using odin. This wouldn't be a problem, except that I've spent the last 4 hours or so scouring the internet in search of such a rom. I did find an executable file that looked to be a version of odin with the rom pre-loaded into it, but it failed a hash check leading me to believe that they didn't actually have a lollipop rom loaded into the software. (Link if you're curious: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-s5-lollipop-stock-rom-g900aucu3boc4-t3137519). Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of the stock version of AT&T Lollipop for the g900a?
Many Thanks,
James
Found a fix: You must use odin to flash the partition tables located here: here. Just toss the file into the AP section, ensure that auto reboot and f. Reset Time are the only options checked, and start it up! Hope this helps someone in the future!
Hello. I was hesitant to start a new thread, but there are a lot of threads in this section of the forums, and i keep getting an error when trying to use the "Search this forum" bar. Anyway, I have a rooted 6.0.1 Note 5 (DPG1 update) with TWRP 3.0.2-1 and am trying to flash stock rom back to Lollipop. I am using ODIN with the firmware file named thusly "N920TUVU1BOH6_N920TTMB1BOH6_N920TUVU1BOH6_HOME.tar". I first tried flashing with the .md5 extension on the end, but it failed as well as with the .tar extension. I've looked quite a bit on the forums, as well as on the web, and anything i have found say it is as simple as ODIN flashing stock rom through download mode. any suggestions, or tips? am I going about this totally wrong? need more information from me? please let me know, any feedback is appreciated. thank you.
EDIT: I am looking to completely remove root from my device, including restoring stock recovery; trying to sell device. thanks again.

What firmware did your device ship with? If it didn't come with BOH6 ( which mine didn't ) I don't believe you can flash it, I could be wrong but only flash with the earliest the phone came with. I can't think of any other reason Odin wouldn't work as I flash back and forth all the time between PD1 I can't think of the last 5.1.1, I've been on 6.0 roms for about a month.
I see. It doesn't necessarily have to be lollipop that I use to flash, that is just what the site recommended, could I use the latest marshmallow? Or does it have to be the version that shipped with the device? Because I do not have that information sadly. Perhaps you could link me to something that is sure to work? As long as I am removing root, I am ok with what I end up with. Thanks again!
