Unable to install ROMs - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an s4 active i537 rooted on NC9 with safestrap 3.71, when I make a ROM slot it says unable to mount system and systemorig. When I flash a ROM it says unable to mount systemorig and the ROM installs successful however it goes black after recovery options during boot. How can I fix this

You're using the wrong version of SafeStrap. Please read and search through the SafeStrap thread, it tells you exactly what version you need to be using.

Can't Flash Roms or Get Into Clockword Recovery

My Tab is rooted and it says I have the correct recovery, yet I can't flash roms/backup current roms/get into Clockwork recovery. Everytime I try to flash something it gets aborted but before that it says Installing MICS failed or something similar. I'm familiar with flashing roms yet I don't know what's going on.

First, download ROM Manager and reflash clockwork mod.

I've done that a few times, still fails.

is you TAB GSM or CDMA? if you TAB is GSM you should use this tutorial . The Kernel it has already the CWM recovery, also will convert your system to Ext4 ..... Did you applied the patch from here . I believe you have a protected bootloader....
Thanks for the info. I'm not by a pc but it seems I don't need the secondary link, it seems I don't need the patch because it already is patched. And I have a gsm tab.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I'm having this problem too. I've rooted using the the proper steps and installed tom manager and downloaded the lastest cwm. I tell it to reboot and I get the aborted, signature cannot be verified blah blah.
I tried everything step over and over again and I always get that error so I cannot get into cwm.
Like the OP I have a t849 tmobile galaxy tab.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I figured it out
OK so this may sound stupid but when I first flashed the recovery rom using the adb push method for the recovery image and tmobile_zImage I did not have a micro-sd card because the SGT-849 has 16GB of built in memory. I just tried it again but this time I popped in a microsd and used adb to push the recovery flash files, ran recovery, rebooted, ran ROM Manager and told it to boot into recovery and ClockWorkRecovery Mod worked
So if you havent used the method if implementing an ADB bridge to push the tmobile flash files you need to do that WITH a microSD apparently.
My boot screen changed from the boring Samsung Logo to a Galaxy Tab + Samsung Logo. Which boot logo do you have?

I dont have knowledge in adb because I'm never on a pc, but I ordered a 32gb sd card so i'll see what happens.

[Q] Unable to perform a nandroid backup - how should I be doing it?

I've tried 2 methods:
From Recovery mode, I select 'backup' and it says there is approx. 13GB space left on my card, which is correct. I then perform a backup - it takes about 5 or 6 minutes, then about 3 minutes into /data it just crashes out with an error.
From ROM Manager in my apps, I select backup (to external sd card) and it reboots into recovery, then fails after about 5 seconds saying it can't find the path.
Can anyone please advise what I might be doing wrong?
I've got about 3.9GB left on my internal card (it's a 16GB phone) and I've got 13GB available on my external card, so I don't think it's a space issue...
what error? what recovery? what file system?

Recovery is CWM-based recovery 5.5.0.4 - cf 1.5
I don't know about file system.
Error while making a backup image of /data!
Update your recovery. I advise using TWRP or PhilZ
Did you use a CF root zip? There's no CF root for i9305

I'm not sure what that is. I rooted my phone via the Toolbox version 7.0 which is stickied at the top of the i9305 forum. I can do everything else in there just fine (delete dalvik cache, install .zips from external or internal card, wipe battery stats, etc).
Ok then that's good.
As Gleburn said try TWRP or PhilZ Recovery.
I would recommend PhilZ as it is the one I am running and I've never had an issue. The last I heard TWRP had issues flashing vrthemes.

Thanks mate, I'll give it a go.
Well, well, well - I do believe it's worked!! (using Philz recovery)
Thanks again.

[Q] (Q) Safestrap and CWM

I have Safestrap downloaded, but I was wondering about CWM. Is safestrap the same thing, or would I need to use CWM in custom ROMS? I've looked but couldn't pull anything up. Just wanna know what the safest rout would be.
Safestrap is for phones with locked bootloaders since we have unlocked bootloaders now Safestrap is no longer needed which is why CMW should be the route you take CMW also saves sapace by only have one rom loaded on your internal sd instead of having a stock rom and a custom rom like safestrap did.
So it seems I am gonna download cwm then. Thank you :3

safestrap nd3 work on aoa1??

says recovry installed, but safe system not active on mine (s5 active/870a)
if I can't use safestrap in 4.4.4 or 5.0, what do i use to nandroid?
If it says safe system not active it just means you aren't using a virtual slot, if you can boot in to it its working.

You need to downgrade the kernel to use it if you're on lollipop, there's an app that does that for you and then a flashable zip to go back to the L kernel once everything is said and done.

You have to be extremely careful because there is a Lollipop and Marshmallow version of this device. I cannot give a link to the correct thread, but there is a thread on XDA that has a Marshmallow guide.
Basically you just flash with Odin, I used TWRP version twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-t350_mm_9816
Before you flash make sure you are in dev mode so Knox does not screw with you. have your SuperSU flash Zip on your SD card, I used UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323
Boot into recovery, select install and chose the file I said above. It will flash and Root your device as a system root.
