I am about 3 weeks into the Flex D959 and on 4.4.2. If I root with Towelroot and decide to jump to a new phone can I remove root from within the SuperSu app alone or do I need to try to use one of the other methods to return to Stock. I am more interested in root at this point and not installing custom roms.
The posts on xda seem to point to many problems getting into download mode after the Kit Kat update and don't want to have that problem down the road.
The best way right there brother

so, there is a update on Tmobile in the last day or 2 that a few of us have gotten notification on; has anyone who is on KitKat, Stock Dfuse's rom with Root taken this update successfully?
My phone is running great now, and I dont want to mess with it if I don't have to, so better to ask first and not regret it later!
Thanks!
I just got the noti just as I was updating my nexus 7 so I didn't know what to think of it but since I just got root only a couple days ago I don't want to lose that so I'm the second person waiting to find out if it's worth it

well, I'm not worried about losing root, since its so easy to get again..
I'm concerned about soft bricking the phone, which I dont want to deal with right now if I dont have to..
plus, I'm getting about 40 down and 12 up on my phone, so not sure if this update can actually improve those speeds in any way..
EDIT:
OK, I ran the update, on a stock, 4.4 Dfuse rom rooted, and it installed just fine.
I lost root, and just ran towel root after that , and got root back, so it should be ok to take the update if you are setup like I am.
after the update, there is now a setting for VOLTE in settings/call....
I was on D-Fuse stock Rom rooted and was able to take the update without any issues as well. I thought we would have to use the LG Tool since we didn't have a recovery but that wasn't the case.
thanks
Ok so many of us have successfully rooted our devices and frozen update and renamed security files to avoid losing our root.
What are the proper steps for Dummies like me to accept the Lollipop OTA in December without losing my data?
Also now 4.4.4 is anounced with Bluetooth fixes that I have noticed while streaming
(My gut tells me keep update frozen until a flashable rooted 5.0.)
It was said in another thread NOT to take the 5.0 update until a root method for it has been established. If you wanna keep root, I'd wait. I'm still running stock rooted AND3 firmware/kernel. I'm looking to get the newest update up to today (I think ANG3 or something of that nature.) I'm just not taking updates yet so I can keep my root. I'm having problems with the phone freezing and restarting though so I'd like an update.

NG3 is smooth

I am stock rooted with ANG3 pre-installed on my purchased S5. It runs smooth as silk if you use the method posted by muniz_ri in general. All I've done is turned off or frozen some bloatware and installed Chainfire SU 2.16.
My question was more geared towards the person who might want to go from rooted to the lastest OTA without losing data etc. I have been diving in pretty deep to the AT&T side of XDA since leaving sprint a week ago and I think the answer might have been posted by shortydoggg with the soft-bricked thread.
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me a non odin 3.09+ way to remove the freeze on my apps in the correct order to take the OTA without tripping KNOX if I wanted to do that knowing I might loose root.
I thought we might be able to follow muniz_ri and odin the one file back towelroot again after.
Basically I like stock always have, but I want root also for AdAway Titanium Backup Etc. and being a truck driver I wanted the 4.4.4 Bluetooth fix for Iheart radio.

It's hard to say what the best approach will be until the update arrives. In the case of 4.4.4, I'm rather confident that a somewhat simple method can be developed to take the update while keeping root. As for 5.0, I have some ideas none ideal but we'll see.
Is Android 4.4.4 for the AT&T version of the Galaxy S5 out? I have a Galaxy S5 AT&T phone but I don't have AT&T service. I am running Android 4.4.2 with build version ND3 is there something newer than this?
Updating to NG3
Het guys, so today I got ahold of Odin 3.09 and the NG3 update, I applied it through Odin in the AP slot and it DID NOT update my phone to NG3. My Baseband still says AND3 and kernel is 3.4.0-2178781
Tue Jul 22 13:58:46 KST 2014. Anybody have any options i can use without having to downgrade to NCE just to upgrade? LOL...Im kinda at a loss,Ive tried it in download mode twice now and no fu go.
Plz disregard my message. I'm good now and running rooted NG3.
Hey all,
As the title aludes to, I'm totally lost with rooting my note 3 running 4.4.4. I've been pokling around this site for a few hours but I'm not really seeing what I need. Basically all I want to do is be able to tether my note 3 (it's SIM unlocked on an african Carrier,. the phone is from at&t originally though). As I understand it, i need to root my phone in order to use this feature (f*ck AT&T). Anyway, I did use the search but I can't find any info on rooting a phone that is already on 4.4.4. Do i need to downgrade or is there an a way to root 4.4.4. In any case could someone give me a full step by step or point me in the right direction? I hate to be that guy posting duplicate threads but I'm kinda stuck. Sorry/thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
No, there's no way to root 4.4.4 that I know of yet, you have to install 4.4.2, root it, flash a 4.4.4 that won't kill your data, then it should be rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/n900aucucnc2-odin-files-t2838117 are the 4.4.2 (NC2) files. I don't have a link to the 4.4.4 files handy, but I'm sure they're in the development subforum. (You want the 4 separate files, not the all-in-one, so your data doesn't get overwritten - in both cases.) Get into 4.4.2, root with https://towelroot.com/ then go back to 4.4.4 (if you want - I'm still running 4.4.2, so I don't have to reflash kernels to get into SafeStrap; Mobile Odin doesn't work on the Note 3 yet, and I don't want to carry a laptop around in my pocket).
I think.
I went round and round with different ROMs all last week, reflashing 4.4.2 after each one, rooting, installing SafeStrap, restoring my data, etc., etc., until I can't remember exactly what the exact steps are, but I think I got it right.
And there are a few threads her on how to root 4.4.4 - with downgrading to 4.4.2, or just flashing the 4.4.2 kernel, or something.
But no, you can't directly root 4.4.4 yet.
As for tethering, see if there's a tethering app that will work without rooting, or just go to Settings/Connections and enable Tethering and see if that works. If it does, there's no reason to go through all the trouble of rooting (which is terrifying the first time you do it - and boring by the 10th).

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try once I get home. Unfortunatly there's no way to tether on an unrooted unless at&t allows it (that I know of). And at&t cant allow it since I don't have them as a carrier right now. I've trid a couple apps from the appstore already and they either try to carrier verify or it's just a widget of the phones tethering function. I don't particularly care about flashing custom roms so if there's a way to tether in my situation then I'd love to try.
Ok so first let me apologize if I overlooked a similar post but I've been having root issues for weeks now and haven't found my exact situation yet.
Here's the background. I have an AT&T Note 3 N900A. When I got the phone I had no issue using towel root to root the device. Worked first try. I'm new to rooting and I was in love with all the new options. I started small playing with xposed and fonts overclocking etc. Then started researching custom Roms. Discovered cwm twrp wouldn't work with my locked boot loader so researched and got safestrap. Did the backup made my new Rom slot and with a guide I attempted my 1st custom Rom flash. FAIL. bootloop. Revert to stock Rom via Odin. Download towel root. Rooted. No problem.
2nd attempt at custom Rom flash with safe strap. fail. Download another stock firmware (at this point I was still dumb to the difference between NL1 NC2 OC2 etc). And in still dumb to oxed and deoxed. But apparently I got out of bootloop with a different firmware version this time around. First I decided to run lollipop 5.0. Towel root said device not suported. Now I'm running 4.4.4 NL1. device not supported. Also can't get kingoroot king root(pc or non pc) cf or anything else I've tried to work. From what I've read I need to go back to the NC2 4.4.2 and run towel root from there.
My current issue is I have no windows pc to run Odin on and my wife's MacBook refuses to install the Mac version correctly nor will it load the Web based version on the casual page.
I just figured out that I can't use safe strap to flasthe nc2 until I'm rooted. And without Odin to revert I'm scared to try any other method without some guidance.
First off... Is there any way to root my current 4.4.4 without going to the nc2 or if I allow my phone to upgrade to 5.o again is there a non pc root method on lollipop yet?
Or would I be able to download a nc2. Zip to my phone save to sd and use the note 3 stock recovery to revert? ?
I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have even if I haven't mentioned it in my post. Hope to get some answers asap and thanks in advance!!
I'm not familiar with the Note 3 for AT&T but Heimdall (in place of Odin on a PC) may work on your mac to flash ROMs.

Yeah I tried that a while back but it was b4 I knew this much. Maybe j can get it working now. I was just hoping there was an easier way.
Any way to root 6.0.1 G920AUCS5DPJ1 yet? Did some research but could not find a way to root for this particular build. Any update?
I've been searching for an easier method to root my phone and I'm shocked at how few options there are to root my s6. I've always been able to come across more than enough information to root all the previous galaxy phones but for some reason there doesn't seem to be an easy method (like ping-pong root or something automated) I'd appreciate if anyone has any feedback on rooting the new build after the November security patch the build number is G925AUCS5DPK1

Feedback is, there is no root for the new builds.

And is there any way to go back to old builds flashing with ODIN an old stock firmware?
I confirm: once you get the phone on a newer version, you can't downgrade it. I tried to go from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 flashing with ODIN. The ODIN process went well, but after the phone took the older load, it got stuck in the ANDROID screen
To get it back to life i had to flash again its original stock version at 6..0.1
So the question is if there will be any developement on S6 ATT 6.0.1 to get it rooted or TWRP. RIght now it seems we are stuck. No root, No custom rom I will keep my S4 that performs like a charm with root and custom roms!

Development has been essentially dead on the ATT version for many months.

Thanks @dandrumheller for the reply
I am debating myself to try something even i know is highly possible i break the phone. I really need a rooted phone and this s6 is a replacement for my s6 given to me by ATT. If i can't get it rooted, it will sit there forever. So probably i will take the risk to try to root/load anything experimental
