Correct Kernal for Wake Gestures Sense 6 Toolbox - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using a Sprint HTC One m7, rooted with stock ROM (Android KitKat 4.4.2) and Xposed Framework, TWRP recovery and paid version of Titanium Backup. I'd like to try out the WakeGestures function in the Sense 6 Toolbox, but it advises me I need ElementalX 14.7 or greater Kernal.
I poked around here at XDA and found that the latest version of ElementalX for the Sprint HTC One m7 is 13.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295596). My question is, if I flash The kernal, will I be able to use wakegestures, or do I need to wait for the kernal developer to update the Sprint version of ElementalX to 14.7 or greater?

The wake gestures work with that kernel "out of the box" without the use of sense toolbox, you will select which ones you want to use during the aroma installer.

One other thing. Does flashing a new kernal result in the loss of any data? Never flashed one before. Is there a way to back up my current kernal using any of the tools I mentioned in my first post?

[Q] Registering custom flashed Hero on Sprint Network

I recently upgraded my phone and gave my trusty Hero to an out of town girlfriend. She went to sprint today to have it activated and was unable to get it done. She tells me they attempted to register it on the network but were unable to do so. They say this is because it is rooted and flashed with a custom Rom.
It has the July 08 ASOP rom by jaybob. If anyone can give me any help, I'd be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if I need to talk her through the process of returning to stock.
Thanks in advance
You need a sense based rom I'm pretty sure.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
If you want her to have a completely stock, unrooted phone, you need to "ruu" it. You will find the ruu file and instructions in the development section.
Other than that, you can flash any sense-based rom (infinite fx's, liquid's), and that will let you activate it also.
If she will be taking it into the sprint store, I recommend ruu, tho.

I had no idea that you needed a sense based rom. I'll talk her through flashing it. Quick related question. I am using clockwork recovery. I am under the impression I may not be able to properly flash a sense based rom with this. Or am I absolutely wrong.
Thanks,

they need epst in the dialer and diag witch is only in stock sense roms.

I may be Wrong but you should be able to Activate it over the phone... I think Sprints number is 1-800-639-6111! Also if I were you I'd probably do what the others Advised and Flash a Sense based Rom, Try LiquidSense, or the Fresh Roms are Also pretty Good!
Good Luck!

This is a Stock Google Play Edition Rom LMY47O.H9. It has no modifications besides being rooted
Devs feel free to use as a base, just give proper credit
Updated 9/17/2015
1. Make sure you do a wipe if coming from another rom
2. Flash in recovery
3. reboot(I suggest TWRP)
4. profit
It seems people on older firmware are having issues with wifi. This is due to your old firmware. If you are not S-off you will have to wait for your carrier to release updated firmware. There is nothing that can be done about it. :-/
If you have problems make sure you do a full wipe.. if you continue to have problems you need to be as detailed as possible.. What version firmware are you running? What ROM are you coming from? Are you bootloader unlocked? you need details.. if you don't give details you're more likely to get a better answer as to why it doesn't work from the fortune teller on the corner.
Also, please do not PM me for support. PM's will not be answered. Post it in the thread. It helps other's having the same issue find a solution. If it's over PM it only benefits you and not everyone else

Hi Graffixnyc, long time after s3. So I have att version and I am unlocking bootloader right now. i will install recovery after that and then, will this run on ATT version like a regular flash from recovery?

seems super laggy to me, even the bootanimation. did a full wipe to.
I'm having issues as well with lots of lag and no camera or wifi.

It didn't seem laggier to me.. But I have since restored my data.. Let me try with a fresh system wipe and play with it for a bit
Seems fine to me.. I wiped and flashed and it doesnt seem laggy to me so far.. I'll keep playing with it but it seems just as good as the cwm back up version for me
Trying to install via PhilZ CWM and getting this:
Creating links and setting perms...
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
Edit: redownloading, checking sums and such.
Yup did a full wipe. Laggy. Lock screen, waking, sleeping and drawer
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Fixed it. Had to specifically format /data for some reason. A full wipe wasn't cutting it.
Running smoothly here. Full wipe using Philz. Well chose the Install new rom option or whatever it's called. No lag!
Though question.. Since this is just the stock GPE ROM, does that include the stock recovery? Philz came up saying that the ROM may try to flash a recovery on boot and whether I want this to happen.. chose no.. but not sure what's going on.

You were correct to chose no. It doesn't flash a recovery. Chainfire uses the install-recovery.sh script file for root purposes. twrp knows about this I believe since chainfire works directly with dees troy..
Build.prop changes?
I feel like my new M8 is almost perfect. Going from AT&T bloatware to a almost Nexus experience! Thank you so much for the hard work! One question and hopefully it isn't a noob question but I always change my LCD density down to 380 as I feel stock is huge! Do we need S-off to be able to change that in build.prop as I can edit it but it doesn't change anything. Thanks in advance for any info.

Newbie but rooted, just a couple of questions :)

Hi, I'm new here and new also to rooting etc.
I have successfully unlocked and rooted my M7 and using TWRP recovery.
I am under the impression you can't update OTA when rooted, I would like a standard ROM with sense 6, but I just have a couple of questions....
1. Could someone supply a link to the best stable Sense 6 ROM suitable for an unlocked UK M7?
2. Could you also explain how to install the ROM using some not too technical language
Thanks for your help

I cant tell you much as I am using Miui rom and i have killed an M7 a while back but Viper ROm is the best I have used and that is Sense 6. Bare in mind I have not used a Sense 6 rom at all but last Viper i used was 5.5 and it was great.
There is Android Revolution HD, im not sure if this is Sense 6 but is is a custom rom as close to stock that you can get.
Just download the ZIP and enter your receovery and flash, it is simple as. Just dont wipe internal SD card..

So I download the zip file on my computer, where do I save it on my phone, bearing in mind it doesn't have an SD card?
Thanks for your help by the way

Just place it on the internal memory of the phone. Don't put it in any folders. Then boot into TWRP, select "Install zip from SD card" (the internal space paritition is labelled as "sdcard" due to the way android works), find the zip and install it.
Awesome, I guess I don't delete the original ROM then?

You would be well advised to make a back up of your original rom first. If something goes wrong you can go back to it, may be hard to find it on the web if you dont.
Best advice. Do a nandroid backup of your Rom now and try a few different ones. Personally I like android revolution hd. If you are going to try that use twrp 2.6.3.3. It doesn't like other versions very much

I know you've asked for sense roms, but I would definitely give some aosp roms a try. I've always liked aosp better. That said, it seems like development for this phone leans more towards sense based roms and definitely sense kernels. Only a couple of aosp kernels to choose from. I'm new to this phone (switched to Tmo a couple months ago and didn't want to buy a new phone on payments), but I was disappointed to see that after being out for a year the aosp development was somewhat lacking.

Since there is no Sprint 4.4.4 update yet what ROM is everyone running?

See thread title.
Too many to list I flash something new every other day. May just stick with CPTB stock odex Rom running xposed modules till 4.4.4 drops. TBH stock just seems so much smoother than all the custom roms even with using xposed.
I'm running ViperRom. I have NO issues at all. So many tweaks that I can set my phone the way I want it.

I saw that too. In their thread it say neither Sprint nor Verizon were supported. I was updating TWRP using MultiROM Manager and accidentally let it install ElementalX, and it booted no problem. I haven't noticed any problems with regular use, but I do think it's weird.
Edit: Even though it was working, I didn't want to risk any stability. I went ahead and flashed flar2's port instead.

The one in MultiROM Manager is built to work on all Carriers. I posted them in the MultiROM thread and stated that, btw. And I'm using them myself, as well.
P.S. My daily ROM is Bad Boyz HK, but I have GPE, CM & my stock rooted also installed via MultiROM.
About to add @sun_dream's 4.4.4 port.

That makes sense. I hadn't noticed any problems, but didn't take the time to read up on why it was working. I saw you mention somewhere else that flar2's port worked fine, so I went ahead and installed that on blind faith.
I was not aware that you could run both a GPE and a Sense ROM with MultiROM. I have some reading to catch up on. That is something that I would very much be interested in. :highfive:

As thick said, most custom kernels do come with double tap to wake, aka dt2w.
I'm assuming you know the procedure for rooting and flashing a ROM.
In order to get dt2w, first flash a ROM of choice. Boot up, and set it up according to your liking. Then, find a compatible kernel (we can help you with that), and flash that. Boot up again, make sure (in your phone's settings) that the kernel flashed successfully, then download a kernel tuning app like TricksterMOD and go into "Screen Wake Settings."
Note: some kernels may use AROMA, which lets you configure dt2w while flashing. The above should still apply if you want to change your settings later on.
Thick's ROM comes with it built in, but most other ROMs don't.
Happy flashing, and remember, ask twice, flash once.
I appreciate it!!
I rooted and played around with different Roms on my previous phones e.g. HTC Hero, NS4g, and Evo4G
but since my HTC one is still being updated via OTA officially I didn't proceed with rooting yet.
I really wanted DT2w feature and I don't think any update would give me that feature so that's why
I am thinking about rooting my phone. I really appreciate your help since you said you can help with
choosing a kernel please go ahead and suggest a good kernel and few feature rich/stable Roms.

I would suggest SD 12 since it's on the latest base (.12, which has some important bug fixes) and it's relatively close to stock.
Along with that, I would suggest using ElementalX 18, which is one of the more easy Kernels to set up. It uses AROMA, so you don't have to download any apps to adjust your settings later. I had a good experience with the battery saving/thermal throttling/undervolting settings (you'll see those come up when you try to flash it). I don't recommend messing with the clock settings, however.
Wipe (default wipe in TWRP), flash ROM, boot, set up, go into recovery, flash kernel, reboot, wait, reboot again. That's the procedure I follow.
I appreciate it!!

Yes you are right I was trying it first on my stock rom which was 4.4.2 if I am not mistaken that was the last official OTA
update for me. I am on SD 12 ROM and EX18 Kernel at the moment and loving it. I tried SlimKat which was not bad but for some reason I couldn't fix the resolution of the screen everything was too small for me (icons, fonts etc). Latest Liquid Smooth didnt recognize my sim card so I had to move away from it. It seems like for now SD12 is going to be my daily driver.
In case if I want to give SlimKat another shot can I use EX18 on it or it's only a sense kernel? also SlimKat is 4.4.4 so what good kernel can you suggest which will give me DT2W option?

In case if I want to give SlimKat another shot can I use EX18 on it or it's only a sense kernel? also SlimKat is 4.4.4 so what good kernel can you suggest which will give me DT2W option?

EX18 is sense only.
And sorry, I don't really know about nonsense stuff.
