I used my Xperia V for about a minute underwater to shoot a video of fish with the flashlight on. After taking it out of the water, the screen went dark but the flashlight was still on. I held on the power button to unlock it and the phone vibrated twice. I repeated it again and the light turned on again. After a while I held on the power button and finally the flashlight turned off but I can't turn on the phone after that. I took it back home and rinsed the phone (because it was submerged in a river) while holding the ports tightly closed, dried it with a towel and finally opened it up. There was some water swirling inside the back cover but I don't think it's water damaged. The battery and circuit indicator has turned pink.
It doesn't charge or turn on anymore. Should I just leave it to dry?
It's water resistant as in "it can take some rain or some splashes". It isn't designed to be fully submerged under water. Let it dry for some time and hope for the best

What led to the brick:
Submerged in water with flaps closed for a few seconds, as usual.
- camera showed moist
- removed the device immediately from water, then it switched off a few seconds later while drying it
- none of the button combinations do anything
- if plugged to charger red led comes on for 1 or 2 seconds and goes off
- if plugged to PC; led goes on for 1 or 2 seconds + USB device plugged in sound
- after red led goes on every 15" + USB device not recognized sound
- After some research it became obvious that water came trough the back panel, which is lifted
My biggest concern is to recover my data in the internal memory and of course getting the phone back to life, but all the pictures on there are worth 200 of this not so waterproof phone.
Do you think there is anything that can be done in this sense?

Honestly, I don't think you can do anything.
You can try putting your phone in a bag of rice for at least a week with all flaps open to absorb the moisture.
Most importantly, do not try to turn it on or connect it to a power source again until you have tried to thoroughly dry it with the above method. Water + electricity = bad things for the internal components of your phone. You probably already fried several of them by powering the phone up while water was inside, in which case, your phone is dead and your data gone.

Hi. I have a big problem about my i9295. Today, I cleaned my phone with a bit-wet microfiber towel and dried(Closed back cover and usb rubber correctly) After this I rebooted my phone and it opened safe mode automatically and I saw some fog in rear and front camera. Then I ran to my home and opened back cover. Soaked. Dried and unplugged battery. After 10mins, opened phone but it booted safe mode again and google now opening automatically. So, "options button" self-activating. Now, unplugged battery and SIM and waiting for full dry. I think it's a water damage.
What can I do now? (I will take my phone to technical service tomorrow)
Edit: I waited for 2 hours and phone opened normal mode. But there is fog in front camera.
Rice bath...put your phone in a cup and cover it with rice. Should be fine after twelve hours.

hey guys so my phone was dropped into a water pool "xperia z1"
tho it's supposed to be waterproof but some how water managed to get inside the phone ._.
anyways i've been putting it in rice for almost 2 days trying to turn it on from time to time but it wasn't turning on ._.
i tried putting it on charger tonight and the red charging light appeared but nothing appeared on the screen
i was afraid that something will go wrong if i tried to turn it on so i unplugged it fast and put it bk to rice
what do you think i should do?

I experianced the same, but in the end had to get my screen nd power cord replaced as abnormal functionality of power cord was cycling my phone on off
Leave it in the rice for another day or two. Rice can bring dead phones back, trust me :3
My advice, send it to Sony for official repair.
They will fix it!
open the back and dry it completely even with a hair dryer on warm setting not hot and test it - if working ok then buy the rear seal gasket (ebay) and put the back back on, keep it away from water, I have open a few of these for screen repairs and taking the back off is easy
Just a few hours ago while riding bike Suddenly rain started and My note 5 in a pocked soaked little bit, when I stopped I cleaned it with cloth it was working fine till half hour but when I came home the screen flickered and went Black. Notification LED and sounds are still working, I tried to shut down the phone by pressing and holding power button but it couldn't for some time, it restarted twice in between that, I can tell by sounds but I think it's off for now. I have kept the phone in a rice bowl . Is is possible to my phone and phones screen work properly ? is there any other way ? I saw in one video that we can put it in isopropyl alcohol 99% for half hour but I am unable to get it . Please suggest me if there is any solution ?

(Dont Hold Hair Dryer Much Closer To Device As It Will Probably Damage Internal Circuits, Just Hold It At About Secure Distance From Device)
2)You Can Also Try To Put Your Device Below lightening Electricity Bulb To Dry Off Water
(Especially Orthodox Bulbs Which Lights Yellowish In Colour Which Produces Much Heat After Lightened For Long Duration, Here also Hold/Keep Your Device at secure distance to avoid internal damage to device)

I've kept it in sealed rice bowl for now , I'll keep it for atleast 12 hrs .fingers crossed !!
after keeping phone in rice for 12 hours , phone's display is not coming up but its working i can hear sounds, click pics by double pressing home and via volume buttons. what can i do for display?

Unfortunately you got water into the charging port and it caused a short circuit breaking the screen/LCD.. You're pretty much going to have to replace the entire screen/LCD.. Right now your best bet is to put it back in the rice for at least 2 days and put it in the plastic baggys that you can buy so it sucks the moisture out of the device.. Seems to me like your screen is done for though..

my device started successfully- screen, touch was working but it was flickering a bit in the top side, I immediately power offed device and put it in rice. so I am positive it will work, i have ordered isopropyl alcohol 99.9%, I am goin to put phone for half and hour and then put again in rice for 2 days , what you suggest ? isopropyl alcohol won't damage right? ive seen video on youtube thats why I am thinking about it .

No like I said leave it alone I've done many of these repairs and if you keep powering it on before the water is fully sucked out by the rice you run the chance of poping a capacitor and then it will not be able to even charge and about the alcohol I don't recommend that unless you can find 99% rubbing alcohol because if you buy 50% rubbing alcohol you are going to be adding 50% water in again with the other 50% alcohol.. 99% means 99% alcohol and dry super quickly but there's still that 1% percent water in there! The bag in the rice trick can do the trick if you didn't short circuit nothing on the motherboard but once you short circuit the board it's not easy to fix at that point without proper tools.. Leave the bag of rice like in the sun for a little while too like inside of a car because that will help evaporate the water and the rice will suck it in..

new update - took phone out of the rice again , it booted up well and worked without any issue for a while but again screen went to black . after few attempts , phone started working normally , but this time I powerd off device and kept in rice again. when display was on it didnt flickr , touch was working good.so when its on everything is working perfect but display getting back to black in sometime. what u think , there is still water ? isopropyn alcohol i got is 99% pure , but I am afraid of doing it as my display is working atleast for sometime ,so I dont want to risk anything . my bet is on Rice , and its raining heavyly here , so no sunheat . I thought of drying it by hair dryer but its hot air dryer .
*how long should I keep it in a rice ?its already 36 hours.

Hi Everyone,
I was testing device underwater for 2nd time, first time it went alright with 0 damage and stunning videos. this time I went a little deeper and now phone is foggy and with dead proximity sensor.
After taking sample video for underwater for 15 seconds, I took out the device and dried it straight away, but water of course got inside, and after a few hours I started noticing fog on all lenses, front and back.
first thing I did is put it in plastic bag, device was on with no issues, I started to see slow performance like device went back to 60hz or lower, but was good. while the device was in the rice bag, I started heating the device on a very low temperature to enhance evaporation of moisture in device, and helps rice to absorb faster. which went alright, or as I thought. and I had no more moisture on the lenses.
later, I had to use the phone, so I had a phone call and phone screen was blinking all the time like it was working and not at the same time. then it worked fine. another phone call the device blinked green and turned off, and when I try to test camera app same happens (not all the time, once of 3 tries phone freez for 3 sec's then blink green and turns off). so I put it all night long in rice bag, in the morning I woke up to find more moisture on the lenses, and when I have a phone call, proximity sensor not working.
using CT test, proximity sensor is stuck at 5.0 and doesn't go to 0.0 at all, tried in safe mode, restart, phone calls, nothing helped out. now I got moisture absorber and will leave device in it for days, and see what will happen. hopefully it works back again.
in order to increase process, I am thinking to put device and moisture absorber in oven in a closed container at temperature of 60-70C for a few minutes to help absorbing and speed up process, I am not worried about 70C up to 90C of temperature to damage anything in the phone as long as it is turned off, and turned on after cool down. what do you think?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated, please help me with this stupid mistake.

Time to go to repair center
I've put the device in moisture absorber (calcium chloride) in a plastic bag with nearly vacuumed and opened Sim tray to give a decent air leak. And I put it in the oven at defrost temperature ( that I can leave my hand under without any damage to my self and not feeling burnt) for 15mins, then I turn it off for an hour but I leave the device in the oven, then again and again, and left it in the oven (oven turned off of course, but to hold temperature as long as possible) all night long, woke up with a very dry device (even underwater videos are now without water ) . Proximity sensor still not working. I used device for 3 hours and then suddenly I got a phone call (do you believe it?! ) And violaaaa sensor is working again
Device is working like brand you again, no issues at all, no water marks or dust on camera lenses, no faulty sensors, nothing at all.
Thanks god it went alright, I was losing hope and even contacted dealer and a few repair centres.
Lesson learnt, NEVER TAKE VIDEO SHOOTS UNDERWATER AT DEPTH OF 1.5M,,, JUST 0.5M,,,,,
Kidding!! Above water photos are amazing enough to enjoy with, no more underwater shooting.
