Hi there, I am a noob to this forum, so apologies if this thread ends up in the wrong place!
I purchased a Sony Xperia T on Monday (17/12/12) after my HTC Desire broke
So far a great phone, I just get fed up with all the adverts on my games! I want to root it and just get the standard 'apps' for rooted phones ie. AdAway, Titanium Backup etc.
I rooted and installed custom ROMs on the Desire with no problem, but I can't seem to do this on the T. I have scoured the net for tutorials and guides and everything else, but nothing seems to be working.I am trying to use Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v4.
I follow the instructions to the letter- choose phone, insert USB, choose restore, and wait... sometimes it reboots, others it just does nothing. Even when it does reboot, it still doesn't root.
Specs:
Model Number= LT30P
Android Version= 4.0.4
Baseband Version= 8960A-AAAAANAZQ-10015019-19
Kernel Version= 3.0.8+1.0.21100-02477-g0d376f4
Build Number= 7.0.A.3.195
I am on UK Orange/EE
USB Debugging is enabled...
Sorry about the long post, I wanted to give as much info as I could so I can hopefully get this done.
In advance, thanks :fingers-crossed:

you cannot root 7.0.A.3.195 unless you unlock your bootloader.
check Q&A section for all in one thread (sticky), everything in there.
You CAN root .195. Firmware but that needs some work. Just go to the all in one thread in the questions and answer section and read that thread. It has every info you need for rooting.

i think i was pretty clear in answering his question.. and pointed him to Q&A thread.
Welcome to the forum. Please make sure you post in the relevant section to what you're posting about, i.e. all questions belong here in Q&A.
Also the best thing to do is always search first as gregbradley has kindly put together an all in one thread at the top of this section which will help you with most common questions.
Thanks

Hi,
If you want I can help you to root your device with the version you have (.195). I got my Xperia T last week and I directly rooted it and it works perfectly.

If you did it without unlocking the bootloader or without flashing a prerooted stock image through CWM please share because those are the only methods that I am aware of currently working.

There is a method will documented in the q&a, requires flashing. 303 and rooting, installing cwm and then restoring a 195. As mentioned above, check the all in one thread.
The following link gives info, please search first.

Thanks everyone, 'thanks' has been clicked
Before I do this a) is there any way to 'unroot' the phone, as it voids warranty etc? And b) is it a huge improvement on stock, unrooted? Looking at the posts mentioned it appears to be stable, but just want some feedback from you guys.
Thanks guys

I'm with you on this one Spec. If there is a direct way of rooting the phone without the round-about way. I'm all ears.
Hi Guys, I am new in here. I need help for my sony xperia tx handset. My phone was completely ok when it was running on android 4.1.2 jellybean version. There was not a single problem. After the update of jellybean 4.3 version there is some trouble i am facing and the very big trouble is with the battery.
Ok after the update now if i charge my battery to 100% the handset turn off by itself but that is not the big problem. The main problem is when it's charged 100% and i am using my phone with my 3G data connection on, when the charge leve comes to 65-60% if i restart my phone it drops to 20%-25% and if i dosen't restart my phone on that point (65%-60%) and continue using the phone when it comes to 50% or like 45% it shows me Low Battery and turn off. My battery is ok but there is something wrong with the new firmwire i guess. I reinstalled my os using sony SUS but it didn't help.
So can you guys suggest me something to overcome this problem? please i need a solution urgent.
Thanks A Lot

Re: TX battery problem
Most likely it's not your phone, just a software problem. You can downgrade by flashing unbranded TX FW from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648320 and wait for the fix release for .205.
I would also suggest making a ftf from your current firmware before flashing, so if you have connectivity problems due to the regional radio frequences (unlikely) you can flash just a baseband from your .205 ftf.

thank you so much ArtDc, I have read the thread you suggested but I didn't find any unbranded ftf for my country so can you please tell me which ftf I can use on my tx? Honkong or any country else? And also I do not know how to backup my original firmware so it will be very helpful if you can tell me in simple way to do that.
Thank you again bro.

BTW even if downgrading doesn't help (I hope it does) don't rush with a new phone, try replacing the battery. There were similar problems reported for Xperia V due to the battery failure.

Ok...downgrading might not solve the issue. Here are a few things to try.
1) For the phone shutdown issue when charged to 100% install safecharge from playstore. It will prevent the issue from happening.
2) Are you rooted? if yes you can download an app from playstore to clear your battery stats and let it recalibrate....it sure looks like a calibration issue to me
3) Do you have a microsd card in the phone? try without it..microsd cards can cause a lot of issues on this phone
4) Do a complete factory reset....i really mean a complete, that is you need to wipe your internal storage to..Don't forget to backup your stuff first.
Give it a try and let me know

Hey bro,
1) i've already installed Safecharge from play store and yes it does prevent my phone from shutting down when 100% charged.
2) No i'm not rooted so i guess i can't download the battery callibrator app. Is there any other way to do so?
3) yes i've MicroSD card installed. I tried without it once but not for long but it was same behavior.
4) I did a complete factory reset with erase internal memory fully. After that my phone was Really OK for a while but after installing all the apps from my backup maybe 1-2 days later same problem occurs.
If you need to know which apps i am using right now here is the list of my apps
Whatsapp, Viber, Twitter, Flashlight, ESfile manager, Android Assistant, Audio Manager(For hiding image), Google Translator, GoSMS pro, All the default apps Facebook is pre-installed but i don't use facebook And no antivirus.
Can you find the problem bro?
Thanks A Lot.

If you are not routed you cannot recalibrate battery manually. Anyway when you factory reset it should in theory clear battery stats.
Have you tried not restoring apps from backup? try it..
If still no good i suggest you change the battery...Its unlikely to be the phone itself.
Tried flashing an FTF from another region?

Once again, as it has been said many times before, deleting battery stats does not improve battery life, and does not affect the battery in any way whatsoever. If you want to delete the stats, just charge your phone, it'll delete and reset once it gets to a full charge and you unplug it. Basically, if you want to do some sort of calibration, just let your phone discharge all the way until it turns off, then let it charge all the way to 100% without unplugging it.
In the end, as stated here:
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
Deleting it is not going to do anything to make your more device more fantastic and wonderful... well, unless you have some deep hatred for seeing anything shown in the battery usage UI.

Regarding preventing your phone from shutting off when reaching 100%, I think this behavior is controlled by some system app. It's only happened to me once. What I generally do after flashing is freeze all the bloatware, so I think I might also be freezing the app that controls this behavior.
I actually never believed people who said it happened to them until I forgot to freeze the usual apps I freeze, but I still haven't pinpointed which app it is, so I could also be wrong (which doesn't make sense since after two days when my battery runs out I generally leave it charging during the night, and it never turns off).
ArtDc no I haven't flashed any ftf from another region coz the link you gave for ftf there I found one ftf of 4.1.2 which is hongkong and i tried downloading it yesterday but the file is missing. I made my current firmware backup using flash tool last night. So what do you think? Should I try downgrade my os or stay on the current version? For the battery behavior, I am really frustrated even it's showing 45-50% but turns off suddenly. If the battery is draining faster that is not a problem for me but the percentage should show accurately so that I know when it's going to turn off. That is the main problem.

Here's the link to 4.1.2 that seems to be working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333374 Hope that will fix it. If so, and if you want a 4.3, then you can gradually upgrade to the higher versions (.295, 199, .205) from different regions and see which one is good for your phone. If not, I believe you could root the 4.1.2 once you're back on it, and then you will have more options to use different mods/tools to solve your problem. Anyway, I would play with different software available before investing into repairs/battery replacement. FW for some regions was reported to be more stable than others, e.g. .205 CE Skyfall seems to have least issues. You could try it right away. Although, battery issues mostly surfaced with the 4.3 update, but who knows, it might work for you. Good luck!
Edited: please ignore the .205 CE Skyfall above, no such FW for Xperia TX as far as I know. Got confused with .199 CE and .205 IT Skyfall editions, but that's for Xperia T. You can't use it for TX, of course. Once again, I would try downgrading to 4.1.2 and/or different regions/versions of 4.3.

My mistake about .205 CE Skyfall, edited in the previous post. I would first downgrade back to 4.1.2 just to make sure it's a software issue, and then try available TX versions of 4.3, they may be different regarding to various bugs.

so thats why i posted here, i tried a 6906 ftf and it didnt work, figured out gps and mobile network are not working.
great rom tho i like it i just want it to work correctly
After read the posts above, I decided to ask before do anything...
My Z1 is C6943, and I was thinking if this ROM will work if I flash the C6943 kernel after flash the ROM.
They said "We only support c6902 and c6903, you can try it but we give no guarantee". So, here I am... and the question is: It will work??? or I'll have the same problems with mobile data and GPS and possibly other things?
In another scenario, what if I flash via flashtools the C6903 kernel after flash the ROM?
im gonna just wait till they support 6906 , went to the evo black rom so i could get my internet back,
wtb a paranoid android rom for locked bootloaders zz

YES!!! Is there a light!!!
I just Installed the ROM a few minutes ago, and everyhting is working!
That is what I did:
First off all, I wipe the phone under Wipe/Factory reset.
Installed the ROM from external SD Card, and then POWER OFF instead reboot.
Holding volume down, I plug the USB and then flashed the stripped FTF for C6943.
Now I have the ROM working, with GPS, Mobile Data, WIFI, NFC and everything else.
Don't know yet if I have something with misbehavior, because I did it 10 minutes ago.
Well, is it. Thanks!!!
GREAT

Hi gregbradley, first of all, I have to say thank you...
I follow your posts and I see every day your effort to help people like me.
I know your acknowledgement about many many things, and it helps me to clarify a LOT of doubts without even PM you or even ask silly question, even when I know that you can be ironic and a little rude sometime. (I'm saying by me, about my perceptions)
About your comment I want to say 3 things:
1 Yes, I shared how I did it, if you read my posts above, you will see that I was afraid to be on a boot loop after flash the ROM, or don't have mobile data and other functionalities after that.
2 Yes, I basically quote the install instructions to show how easy was the installation for those who want to do the same. Spread the word is what I believe.
And
3 It's not my first android phone that I root, install custom ROMs, flash kernels, etc... I just want to prevent to do something wrong and transform my phone in a beautiful piece of nothing...
Again, thank you for all your support on XDA forums, and I'm sure that you makes this place better and better everyday.

Look for the guide for using flashtool on the page from @flash-
There are great flashtool guides on xda too. Just read them
2nd
Yeah, that's possible too!
To do so, you need to
- Root your phone with Towelroot
- Backup your TA partition
- Unlock your bootloader
- Install a recovery for Stock Rom
- Flash a Rom. I always take Cyanogenmod 12.1 by Mrcl1450 and AdrianDC. You find it in
XperiaSP/Original Android Development
There are other great Roms on
XperiaSP/Original Android Development
and
XperiaSP/Android Development
Just take what you like or try different roms.
Look in
XperiaSP/General/Xperia SP Lollipop Hub
There are great Rom reviews.
You can find guides to all these things here on XDA. Please read these guides. Then you can have Android 5.1.1

Yeah, you can root your phone with Towelroot. The word to google is debloat.
Sorry if I sound rude, but someone has to tell you:
Nobody in here will help you googling a tutorial how to flash a ftf file.
OK, one last time...
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+flash+ftf+xperia+SP+flashtool
As far as I understand it, XDA is a community of people who want to mod their phones. Themselves. This includes that you read before you ask. Oh you didn't find the answer you were looking for on Page 1? Google again with similar keywords.
Let's think about the number of users who have already used flashtool. Millions! How many of them were noobs in the beginning? Millions!
Can you imagine how often your questions have already been asked? I can't...
There are hundreds of tutorials out there for each and every step of whatever related to mod a phone.
Go and read them! And if something goes wrong, there are thousands of tutorials how to get your phone back to life. I've never heard a phone causing a thermonucleal war because a beginner experimented with it.
Again, sorry for the rudeness of my message, but as you OBVIOUSLY didn't read the "READ BEFORE POST" message of the moderators, I had to tell it to you. That way you won't wonder why noone answers your questions.

It's a firmware downloader. You can download any version you want with it. Usage is tricky sometimes, read the thread.
PS: I think you mixed up the words for read and write
PPS: Don't mix up "update firmware with flashtool" and "open bootloader and install custom rom".

OK, I gotta clear up a few things:
Case A:
You want to Update your current old Sony rom to the latest Sony rom.
- Get Flashtool, get your Firmware from Xperifirm.
- Flash it
Yeah, it's that easy
Case B:
You want to have a newer Android that has not been made by Sony. E.g. you want Android 5.1.1 Cyanogenmod. That's what we call "Custom Rom"!
- Root your phone with Towelroot
- Backup your TA partition
- Unlock your bootloader
- Install a recovery for Stock Rom
- Flash a Rom. E.g. Android 5.1.1 Cyanogenmod
These two things are totally diffetent things!
What could have caused the misunderstanding is that you CAN root your phone in Case A. But you don't have to. You CAN add a Recovery Mode in Case A, but you don't have to.
IF you want a Recovery, take Philz Recovery for Xperia SP.

Ok, at what point of Flashtool are you stuck?
I think downloading the ftf isn't a problem anymore.
Getting Flashtool installed shouldn't be a problem too. The drivers for your device are installed on your PC, right?
Then you are at the point where you have to put your phone in flashmode.
Tell me where you're stuck. The exact point what you can't do!

My xperia z c6603 can't upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3 please help me,,!!
first wrong selection, second than easy search on google for an custom rom which has a newer version or search for an factory image or an stock rom and than install it I think if you would try google you will also find a great instruction for you phone. But I think it is for you the easiest way to use the tool from sony which you can download anywhere on there website (sorry I don´t know where, I just know sony had made some thing like that) and with this tool you can easily update you phone if you don´t find any updates...But maybe sony don´t made any update :/ I hope I could help :/

why update to 4.3 when you have 5.1 official lollipop. Anyway if you want to install 4.3 download the right firmware (.ftf) and flash it with FlashTool, but remember that this flashing will delete all your data.
