Flashing Z2 on Z1 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know whether my question is allowed here or not, but it's driving me crazy
Can I flash Z2 Rom on Z1? Maybe it bricks the phone, and I think that's soft brick, right?
Please help me

No, it uses a different chipset.
Edit: just to give some perspective, I used to own a HTC One X and there were two variants of the device - one 4g with different chip, and the other 3g only.
The guys using the 4g variant thought their phone was the same as 3g one and flashed their ROMs, they ended up mostly hard bricking their devices.

mhh they using not completely differnt chipsets...z1 uses the msm8974AA, z2 uses the msm8974AB its just a higher clocked s800 with a pair of extras... but i wouldnt flash a z2 rom on my z1 ...cause z2 have 3gigs of ram and when im right another memory chip

So by this means, I can flash because some software features are near
And you didn't mention whether it can be bricked or not
Is that hard or soft brick?

dont flash a z2 rom..it would definitelly hard brick your device...cause of ram and another memory chip ...hmm ... im going to test something :silly:
or better im not sure if it bricks your device or not cause, most things are near to aur z1 and when im right the z2 uses a bit modified firmware from our z1 so i really want to test it...i think i do this on a friends z1

so now we know: you cant flash z2 stock firmware on our z1 i think shes going to kill me for that not my best idea to use my sisters z1 for that
but the next thing i gonna test is: cm kernel for z1 and a cm based rom for z2 i think it boots ....ps ya all can flash roms for z ultra but ehm -> im not responsible for any hard/soft bricks, atomic explosions, your device explodes or any other things<-
edit: i take that back with the zu 0_o

Ok thanks

[Q]Should i change my Milestone?

Hello guys,I am kinda sick of my milestone,it's a good phone but i hate those 256mb ram,it sometimes freaks me out,and now i consider changing my milestone for a Orange san francisco(the one with OLED display),because of it's 512mb ram.I love the qwerty of the ms,and the overclock posibilities but can't stand the locked bootloader and the ram, what do you think ,should i change it for the san francisco?
Wait for SE Arc
If like me you don't have a budget for that, get your self x10.
It will get official genger, and bootloader will be unlocked for advance developers

I think you should think thoroughly about what it will be like to lose the qwerty keyboard ... if you come to the conclusion: hey, I can type pretty well with the on-screen-keyboard, you will be happy with the orange sf ...

It doesn't look like the X10 will be getting the unlocked bootloader, but SE's new 2011 line of Android phones will have the possibility to unlock their bootloaders.

I am in a period when i cannot afford such an expensive device, and i cannot have it with a new contract because i just resigned my contract witout having a new phone. And desire Z seems like a toy to me,too plastic and vulnerable,i love milestone's build quality and desire z is not really what i would prefer.
Well, keyboard droids are rare nowadays... Word is that Milestone 3 is about to be announced and some ppl say it will have a Dual Core SOC While others say it will have a 1.3GHz Single Core SOC. Either way, it will have at least 512MB of RAM which is the same ammount in Milestone 2, but, I would expect more RAM in it.
If you like keyboards to play emulators (this is the major reason I love my milestone, gamegripper FTW), Xperia Play seems reasonable and has 400MB of free ram (512 total) and also will be able to play Playstation One games...
If the main reason you wanna have a keyboard is to type messages, then, Desire Z seems a reasonable choice.
For now, there aren't any devices with stronge build like milestone and with beter performance (except milestone2...maybe???)

[Q] LG P990 any good?

This is a straight answer and for sure i get different opinions...
Well, i have a chance to buy a P990. But when i see a top phone with low prices i suspect something is very wrong with it... and low prices are not only for the phone i found, is to all P990, so the problem should be with all of them...

If i compare this phone to samsung galaxy ace or ace2 or w, which one to choose?

the P990 is like heaven if you want to try custom roms
Even if you manage to brick it, just install a Stock-Rom with NVflash, and it is back alive in 95% of all brick-situations. The only way to destroy it is the hardware-side, like smacking it with a sledgehammer
Very large user base all over the world, and a wide bandwith of CustomRoms that run stable and nearly bugfree.
The official ICS-Stock-Rom is also running pretty good with it But if you ever used a custom rom, or tried one once, you never want to go back to stock on any device
When I ask about ICS is because I've seen some posts where users say that ICS update for this device comes with some bugs and that was worst than previous version.
But when I see all yours answers I believe that this is good phone and good choice.

Exactly, i think that it is S2=O2X>>>S>>>Ace, too.
Btw rvrosa, ICS is working quite good, CM7 is perfect (but oldie if you had tried JBo ICS xD) and devs are working hard to give us a good experience with 4.2.1 and 4.1.2... and yes, it is very easy to flash any rom, and its really hard to brick this phone (someone said 95% of briks are back alive? Well, i think its 99% of them :'D).

compare to my friend Sony xperia P :
performance is absolutely win... xperia P laggy.... optimus 2x smooth... best for gaming
display : well, xperia P is the winner. because "bright pixel" . but, the optimus 2x display is not bad. for me, its good enought
body : xperia P is win. smaller, thinner . never mind...
ram : xperia P. oh come on... ram expander is everywhere. who's need big ram XD
i choose optimus 2x because its performance and for gaming experience
Well... at the end i didn't bought the LG... found a good deal and decided for HTC ONE X.

If you get a locked phone, regardless of brand or carrier, it is easy to unlock - just identify the original carrier it was locked to, get the IMEI, submit that info plus $8 to cellunlocker.net, then boot the phone with any other SIM inside, and enter the code
Good job on getting the One X, great buy and way better than the P990... I like my P990 but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in 2013, even those on a budget, since the better models from late 2011/early 2012 would be at a decent price by then.

I've bought it very cheap for that reason and for some small scratches. The only ones that i have some scare are in the front of the camera... the worst case scenario is i have to change the phone case, but i don't think this scratches affect pictures as they are in side and not in the middle.
So far very happy with it :victory:
Hi,
I got this phone after i sold my 3GS.I really enjoyed the extra core and the hdmi out(i even sold my htpc as i didnt need it anymore!)
but missed the smoothness and attention to detail of the ios.
Having said that it took me 5 days of reading to jailbreak the iphone and around 10 minutes to root the 2x.
I kept it stock because life is short and i didnt want to loose warranty.
I agree with the friend who said its a galaxy s2 class phone.I was considering the s2 ass well but the lg had a better bang for a buck at the time.
IMHO there is nothing wrong with it except for the never ending progress of technology, its just not top dog anymore.

[Q] Upgrading From Nexus 4

Just a quick one really.
Thinking of upgrading from the nexus 4. Want to be able to use 4G in the uk.
Pros/Cons of upgrading, has anyone else done this?
I did exactly this, loved the Nexus 4 initially but the lack of 4g, limited storage (despite using Google music) and budget looks prompted Mr to upgrade.
Haven't looked back, absolutely loving the xperia z. Beautiful screen and for once a clean simple skin that actually brings useful apps with it.
Battery is good with Stamina mode on as well.

Whats the best ROM/Kernel combo at the moment?
I am actually considering same.. I have been monitoring Z section of xda for a while now.. The Nexus 4 is a great phone.. One of the best phones I have ever used. Just the battery life is a pain. My concern about the Z from what I have read is the screen and the lag.. I experience absolutely zero lag on the nexus 4 and even though it's and the Z use the same chipset my guess is the bigger screen resolution of the Z means the GPU gets to work harder. This might probably be responsible for the much talked about lag.
Is anyone here running their device with cyanogen? How fluid is the device with cm10? Answer to this question might decide whether I get the Z.. Every other thing seem on point with the device.

The smoothest an android phone can get
In the design aspect. The XZ and the HTC one is very elegant. And made from Premium materials the XZ is water proof and HTC one has beats speakers and good screen both are good choices and I will not go for Samsung if I were you its new features is not very useful and its made of plastic and dont look at the benchmark it doesnot Make a diffrence

tbh, I like the stock feel of Sony's android software.
It would just be a custom Kernel id be chasing, and at the moment, there only seems to be one!
I was thinking of changing to the XZ from the nexus 4. But I am worried about developer support is it gonna keep coming for the Z or will it die out when something new comes along? Any input would be helpful.

Check the android development forum for xperia z and determine it ur self.. As far as I can tell, definitely having support from veteran dev..
Nexus 4 - Obviously more development, compact.
XZ- Expandable storage, Water resistant, looks, camera, screen ( I've seen reviews saying its viewing angles are bad and washed out but on one on one comparison it felt way way better than the nexus's screen)
Issues : Wifi strength (already solved by custom ROM/Kernel),
Heating- If ur planning to play heavy games for a long time then put on a pair of gloves cos this thing heats up like a pan.
Lag - Wat ? where ? The lag on the stock launcher when swiping from leftmost page to right is a launcher glitch and it doesn't happen anywhere else. (nexus 7 is also running on the same chipset so no worries)
Sidenotes : Development wise i think its pretty good I've used couple of stock based ROMs (which were great) and almost all of the AOSP based ones (which are awesome)
Kernel for stock is just the Doomlord Kernel but i think he has done a brilliant job with it, lots of tweaks added and by the looks of his to-do list i think he'll cover all possible tweaks and features. So i'm satisfied with that. (his recent kernel were buggy don't know why after 11 versions he got a buggy kernel out, but that would be rectified very soon i'm sure)
Battery life- I get around 3-4 hours an average and standby of a day and a couple of hours, also i haven't let the percentage drop below 20% so if u are willing to let it drop till 2-3 add 40-45 mins more to the screen on.
I'm currently running CArbon 1.7 and Carbon kernel.
I too had the option of One, S4, Nexus 4 then i choose XZ, I don't know why but i just fell in love with the device and never looked back anyway thats just my stupid rant.

[Q] Are you happy with your xperia sp?

Had my xperia sp for a couple of weeks and am very surprised by how dreadful the stock ROM was. I came from a GalaxyS2 that was smooth running stock and amazing with the plethora of custom ROMs. I did a little research before choosing the phone and saw a couple of gripes here and there but a lot more positive reviews. I am very surprised that there are not a lot of threads starting here with "this phone sucks balls"!
The lags around the system are shocking and having to press the touch screen four times for before it eventually responds a second or two later to all four touches! Not good Sony.
Is my phone broke? I don't think so, although crippled by an unlockable boot loader, as the cm10.2 for locked bootloader does fix it.
So are you happy with yours?
Your phone is not broke?
I too came from a Galaxy S2 and changed for the battery life and 4g capability.
Also have a locked bootloader so feel hamstrung as I always had Slimsaber on my phone.
Currently on Existenz which is an improvement over stock.

Eh...sort of. At times I do feel really happy with it, but some days I just want to get rid of it. I constantly plan on switching it for a Moto X, but then I find few features that make me wonder if it's really worth the investment. Right now, I'm quite happy running stock rooted rom with few Xposed tweaks, which I never tried before.
i'm not happy because of update that sony gave was terrible :')
i hope sony will give the kitkat update for SP to fix the sh*t, to to add more sh*t
Not happy. I will probably sell phone under price...
- .254 battery life s#cks
- .266 lag, lag, lag
- .201 still lag but little better than .266
Bad camera, not greatest build quality...
After 5-8 years of using Sony/Sony Ericsson phones this is the worst one! I need to buy something else but i dont know which phone should i buy.
Using custom rom Carbon(kit kat version) and quite happy with it. I think it could be better. Battery life is the ONLY thing that i concern. Already used latest .201 stock and not happy with it. Will use SP at least for a year more. :fingers-crossed:
Sometimes im happy with my phone because it can play more games plus hd screen compared to my previous SE android phonetbut im very much disappointed with the camera and sometimes it lags.

Happy compared to my Old Samsung Galaxy S Plus (horrible device.... but great ROM support better than here with the Xperia SP....).
Sometimes I just dont like the way Sony is handeling this device. Delaying updates and now even rejecting Kitkat? It is lame.. But I get use to it.....

Well, Sony Xperia SP is definitely the BEST phone in its price category. That everybody have to agree.
I know the stock firmware is not well optimised , but... hey I used to own a Samsung Galaxy Y before , so anything is better than that low end smartphone.
It's been a pleasure and pain for me.
When it runs well, it's amazing.
Smooth, good looking, very capable capable hardware .
Other times, it's a dog! Hanging, slow loading with app crashes.
I got mine to replace a Moto G that I destroyed accidentally. Pleased and disappointed with it at the same time.
Come on Sony. Please fix the issues that some people are having with this excellent phone!
Im a lot happier now im on Ultimate PureXSP v2, 201 stock should be as smooth as this ROM!

Well i used SP for like 6 months. I loved my experience. But due to exams approaching, i had to switch to a larger device and ended up getting Z Ultra. Kit Kat is horrendous compared to 4.3 so i'd suggest you guys not to dream about it. Maybe 4.4.3 will be better. But for now i'll stick to 4.3 as it is much smoother and faster. I kinda miss my SP though. It was lovely

[Q] Will Roms for the Z3 work on this phone?

I know sometimes there are variants of phones and ROMs for one variant can work on others, but I'm not sure if this is really a totally different phone. I've pretty much settled on the Z3C being the phone I want, but the root and ROM support seems to be pretty light compared to a lot of other phones, and if it turns out I don't like the stock ROM that can end up being a big deal.
Roms for Z3 will not work here unless they have been ported by someone

damn.
I really need to learn how to do some ROM dev. I can't find a good guide anywhere on how to get started.
