[Q] Adding New Contacts to Gmail by Default - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since upgrading to 4.4.2 I have been having this extremely annoying issue. Every time I go to save a contact it is set to save to my phone by default rather than my Gmail account. I have searched all over and found others who have had this issue but there appears to be no fix. You are able to manually change the contact location when creating a new contact but this can be annoying and if you forget to do it initially I have to recreate the entire contact. Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

It's been happening on mine as well. And on my wife's regular S4 that's also on 4.4.2. It's an annoying one, for sure.

Agreed, I just wish I could find a fix!

I'm trying to find a solution to this issue too. I can remember to touch and select my Gmail account every time; however, my 75 year old mother who also has an S4 can't remember to do this. Our phones can do everything else, why is this so difficult?

Google + Mobile issue, wrong account

Hello all...rarely post, been here for years though...since this is a relatively new thing, figured I'd post and see what people have to say or if anyone else has the same issue...
I have multiple gmail accounts...pretty sure most people do...I have been invited to google +..woot! but the mobile version of the program only shows one of my gmail accounts....not the one I have an active google + account with. I do have 2 step verification active with my main account...wondering if anyone else has seen this yet or has fixed it? Thanks in advance!
Ok..so..I found the solution here. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=0b4b96e720c902a8&hl=en
If you have multiple accounts on your phone, remove them, join google +, then re-add the accounts afterwards...
they cant be serious....I have 7 accounts (say nothing!) and not sure if laziness trumps curiosity :3
lol, I hear ya...not quite 7 here...but close..(5..>.>...)..my curiosity always trumps laziness...lol

here's what I did, after I encountered the same issue:
erased everything from the app, uninstalled it, reinstalled it and suddenly I can choose from my (7) accounts
works perfectly fine

Inbox notofications

Hi everybody.
I'm writing this in order to find out if someone else is having the same issue.
I bought a Nexus 6 a month ago coming from an HTC M8 (with GPE 6.0 on board).
When I set the new device I decided to "restore from Google account" all the settings and apps without unlocking or rooting it.
Everything went fine and started using (with great pleasure) the "big boy".
Since ten days (a couple of weeks after) Inbox app decided to give me notifications of new emails just... when it wants to. I have "good days" when everything works smooth and others when I have to open the app to discover I have several unread messages.
I tried uninstalling the app, use GMail instead but the same issue came out. I tried deleting caches and data but nothing: same behavior.
Hoped 6.0.1 (got the OTA) could solve but no, nothing.
Does anybody have some hint to solve this?
It's getting me crazy...
Thx

well, you are asking in the wrong place, so you might not get any responses http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/attention-questions-t3228454
ill adk a mod to move this thread there.
and, do you have inbox and gmail set to sync in your main settings, accounts, google..?
From what I can tell it's caused by doze. I only notice it if I sit my phone on a desk I don't get any email notifications but once I turn it on I immediately get a notification for a bunch of emails. I know theres some apps for fiddling with doze settings but I think you can go and turn inbox's "Battery optimization" off and it should be exempt from doze.

Damn'... Sorry about that. Late night when I posted and I messed up with the subforum. Thank you anyway to make it move to the right place. And yes, I do have sync on settings, otherwise it would never work, not just sometimes

Didn't think about Doze... But if this is the problem everyone should have the issue, am I wrong?
BTW I'm going to check today if it works.
Thank you by now.
Update: Doze disabled for Inbox but problem persists... Any other suggestion?

I am having the same issue in my new Nexus5X (coming from Nexus5). Unlocked, but not rooted.
This is the first page I found while googling for the issue.
Do you have any news regarding it?
Update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...syncing-issues-in-gmail-inbox-and-other-apps/ at least we are not alone :-/
This began happening before doze. I had this on this phone on Lollipop. I had it on my Xperia Z1s.

How to set up my Google account as default for new contacts?

Hello, I feel that Im missing something on my mothers P30, as well as my sister Mate 20 Lite. When they are creating a new contact, the default option to save the contact is the SIM card. What I wsnt is to have the default option for a Google account, but the Huawei shop here un México tella me that there is no way to change the SIM as the default option.
What am I not seeing? I assume that I can (or should be able) to select any account as a default option to save the contact.
I dont have the phone with me now.
Just switch to google when creating a contact and it should choose google for the next time too. I just tried it here and it works.

Really interesting, I tried it that way, and for me it always proposes to store the contact on the phone again.
Is there anything you possibly did what you didn't mention here?

I have the same issue with my huawei, but the phone always wants to save the new contact to the sim card (I can't set the google account as the default destination for new contacts), I've looked everywhere for something, the only thing that solves the issue is to install the official google contacts app, and the google phone app, but a modded one
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Having this annoying problem on the p20 Pro. Accidentally stored many new numbers in phone memory this way when in a hurry. It changes back to phone at some point (when restarting the phone, maybe?)

Blokada breaks FB Messenger calls, but only on this device. Any solutions?

FB Messenger works fine with Blokada on other devices.
On my Pixel 4 XL, during FB Messenger calls it causes cell data to constantly toggle off and on every 5-10 seconds.
Has anyone found a solution for this? (Other than the dELetE fAcEbOoK meme.)

Don’t apologize, internet threads stay around for exactly this reason. I hate people who are bothered by “reviving” “old” threads.
But no, there is no resolution. FB wants to track you so the best thing I’ve come up with is finding your preferred way to toggle blokada off during and then back on after FB calls.

I remember this happening one of the rare times I used messenger calling, but I only use AdAway, so I would think it's due to a blocked DNS/address request. Bout to go to work but when I have time I'll look and see what DNS/address is causing the issue. Idk if you can whitelist in Blockadia tho?

Issues with Google Messages app on Pixel 5!

I just got the Pixel 5 and absolutely love it!
However, I keep having this very odd and reoccurring issue where at least once or twice a day, when I tap on the GM app, I get a blank screen and can't access my messages UNLESS I close out the app and clear the cache as well. Then it's fine. But when this issue occurs, any pics or attachments sent to me are no longer accessible. I tap on them, and it just tells me they're expired even though the person had just sent them like 10 minutes or so ago. The blank screen thing is bad enough, but this is def worse because then I have to ask the person to resend whatever they'd sent.
Does anyone here have ANY clue why this is happening? It's really annoying. I've tried all sorts of things including clearing the data for GM, as well as for the SMS and MMS system apps, uninstalling and then reinstalling GM's updates (since you can't uninstall the app itself because it's a Google phone), etc. But honestly I can't seem to fix the issue.
If anyone here has a resolution for this issue, please reply to this post as I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with this.
Thanks in advance!!!

I didn't have the same issue but did have Google messages issues where conversations would take a while to load up and messages would take minutes to send.
I went to the play store, turned off auto updates for Messages, then hit uninstall, which just uninstalls the updates and rolls back to an earlier version. Back to normal. Everything worked well.
I eventually did a factory reset and am now running on the latest messages fine.

Yeah aside from the factory reset, I did all that. Didn't work for me either.
How do you turn off auto updates for Messages in the Play Store app though??
Thing is, if they put out a fix for this via an update, then turning off auto updates will only postpone resolving the issue too.
I've read that some people have done a factory reset and STILL had the issue though too, so I'm very hesitant to do all that.
Thanks though!

The GM app (I'm not sure what that is, GM Android Auto?) probably has a contact developer link in the G Play listing. Take a bug report/logcat and send them an email with the complaint and attach the log.

Try joining the beta for messages? It's generally slightly newer and you can join, leave without anything being wiped, might help, might not. Outside that, I've got nothing to offer.

No. I was just abbreviating Google Messages. lol
Oh it DOES have that info unholy, but they apparently don't respond to messages it seems. I've sent feedback though to them about it, or well, a bug report with the log attached.

You have the option I believe to either restore all messages or not. But one easy thing you can try is to backup all your messages, they have a free 3rd party app, then delete all of them and try GM again to see if it fixes your issue. There might be one message improperly formatted or something that is hanging up your system. Then you can restore what you need and not everything. Worth a shot.

Go to the app in the play store and on the very top right click on the three dots. You'll get a drop down box where you can toggle automatic updates.
Some of these issues are so finicky when factory resets won't help. Good luck
