My i9295 has developed a software problem where the sound no longer works.
When switching on my phone the sound plays when the Samsung logo first appears but then never again, either through the phones music speaker, ear piece, headphone socket or blue tooth. When I try to play a video file with any number of programs it fails to play and VLC gives errors all mentioning audio output.
I have tried a number of different ROMS including the latest official samsung firmware but all have the same result.
I've never knowingly flashed a new radio, could this be the cause? If so what is the latest radio that I should use?
My current baseband version is xxucne5.
My phone is obviously useless without sound so any advice on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

I had my speaker changed and that issue seemed to have resolved itself.

hello again everyone!!!
i just got a set of blueant x5i stereo bluetooth headphones yesterday... they look cool and feel cool... call quality is great...
but the mp3 sound through my tmobile wing is HORRIBLE!!! i tried the headphones on my co-worker's t-mobile dash and they sound awesome... i can't figure out why they sound so muddy and crackly on my phone... is there a setting somewhere that i am missing??? perhaps a firmware upgrade for my phone that would solve this issue???
any help or insight would be greatly appreciated...
thanks in advance,
bennie
How does playback sound through the included (if any headset) or through the loud speaker? If it sounds good (normal) through those then its most likely a blue tooth problem. When you sync it up are you around anything that could possibly interfere with it during the sync process? There have been a few times when I am making a call (rare) but it wont get a good connection and everything will sound like I am under water or worse. (more with my old phone having a crappy radio)
If you have sync'd the two a fair ammount of times and its always the same sounding quality might look on the T-Moble Wings forum (this is the HTC s730) and see if other users have had the same problem. I wouldnt see it having a bad HTC driver, but it might not be very compatable with that headset?
its hard to judge sound the the loud speaker... it sounds bad no matter what...
when hard wired through the headphones that came with the unit, the mp3 playback is fine... its not crackly like this headset is... i tried resyncing a few times as far away from everything as i could so there would be no interference... i never sync my music files though bluetooth so i know that the files aren't getting corrupted... they are going through usb...
i think it has something to do with the phone...
Double check the compatability on the headset, if it plays fine through the USB headphones, and the headset sounds perfectly fine on another phone...
What version is the heatset? blue tooth 2 or whatever the newer version is? I know the phone supports it but something else might have changed? Just something to look into.
Aside from a firmware flash or some software bug I cant think of anything else If the compatability show's up that it should work might try calling HTC's support line?
i contacted blueant before purchase and they assured me the headset is compatible... also tmobile claims that its compatible as well... they even have tmobile packaed oem boxes for this particular headset... the hardware protocols also line up... technically, everything should work!!!
i already contacted htc with regards to this issue... this was their reply:
Thank you for your inquiry in regards to Bluetooth headset stereo issue.
Ben, I know how important it is for you to have the bluetooth headset working properly, Unfortunately there is no updates or patch available for the T-mobile wing to fix the issue, although T-mobile might have a ROM upgrade. The reason why the T-mobile dash had no issues with the headset is because it has different drivers for bluetooth support. Look into possibly upgrading the device rom to try and resolve the issue, otherwise you'll need to purchase another headset which is compatible with the device.
i looked into updating the rom and it appears that i have the newest version: 4.10.531.3 WWE from march 15th 07... i wasnt' able to find anything newer... does someone else know of a newer version for the hera110???
Hmm, might be something in T-Mobiles software that is nerfing your set... Not sure of what though...
Hello,
I'm believe i'm currently running Cyanogen Mod 7.1 on the LG 2X.
I've had no problems with the mod, everything was running smoothly then one day, out of the blue, the music was no longer working properly out of the headphones.
The best way I can describe is it as tho you are listening to music under water. The music of the songs play, but when the artist sings, their voice is sort of tinny, and doesn't play properly.
Another strange thing is that when I listen to the radio via an app, it works fine. A little quiet, but it is still clear.
I've had a fiddle with the settings on the music player, but nothing seems to change. I've tried a variety of music players and the problem still occurs.
I've been to 2 technicians and neither of them know what the problem is. They don't believe it is something to do with the hardware, more an internal issue.
I just really want to get this issue sorted, because it's very frustrating when I want to listen to music when travelling etc.
Please help, I'd really appreciate it.
P.S My phone will no longer connect to the computer. When I plug it in via USB, it doesn't pop up on the computer, and only shows a charging icon on the phone. If someone could help fix this i'd also be greatful.
Thanks guys.
For the audio problem, check the DSP manager app.
For the USB problem, check if you have USB debug on. (I think you have to look at Settings->applications->development.)
Have you tried different headphones?
I have a similar problem when using my Sony Ericsson headphones on the LG. It seems the 3.5 mm jack is somehow different. So when I use the SE set, I hear the voice distantly, echoed and so on. And its definitely not from the software.

I also have this problem with my sony ericsson headphones, I have to press real hard on the jack so I can hear properly, so I just use the headphones that came with the LG instead...
I have a problem with my unrooted Xperia Z with a locked bootloader. My main speaker does not work for any media like music games or videos, but works fine for loudspeaker calls. Also the earpiece speaker doesnt work at all. Another problem i found was that my microphone would not work at all unless it was in a call and i was using loudspeaker. The final problem is that when ever i plug in my earphones, google now pops up and sometimes my phone starts playing music automatically throught the earphones, when i remove the earphones, instea of stopping the music continues but the speakers dont work so it just keeps playing them silently. If anyone knows the soultion to this, please respond as ive searched everywhere and i have not found one solution yet.
UPDATE: i used the application soundabout to reroute the audio and the calls are now fine, the only problem is that when i plug in my earphones the google now problem persists. If i plug in earphones with a mic, i dont get any of these problems and everytime i want to use my internal speaker for media, i have to manually re-route the audio to them. Anybody know a solution to these 2 problems?
I do have the exact same problem, I tried different ROMs and Audio Mods (at the moment I've got a stock ROM) without any change.
Did you somehow fix it?
Exact same problem, i run stock android 5.1.1 build 10.7.A.0.222 locked boot loader. Problem suddenly came up last week during vacation, quite some time after I did OTA upgrade to 5.1.1 - so this is not related to ROM updates.
After installing soundabout (thanks for the hint) the rerouting did not work immediately - i had to set phone to earpiece and media to speaker in the app and reboot for it have an effect.
I think the root cause is, the phone thinks there are headphones connected, when there really aren't. If I use the UKW radio app, it starts and shows headphones as output-icon right away - it should actually complain that there is no reception without phones because the antenna (headphone cable) is missing. Since it doesn't complain I guess that's the culprit.
Any hints how to fix that, without using a rerouting app? (kinda stupid, using bluetooth speakers and so on now needs a manual setting change in soundabout).
I have that phone for more than 2 years now and used headphones maybe twice with it, so a busted headphone-jack is out of the question too.
Guys give it a try.
Thanks Ess Arr, that really works!
I know I'm not the only one having this problem, but past solutions don't seem to work anymore.
For some reason my phone does not recognize if I plug a headset into the audio jack, so the audio keeps playing through the speakers. I have to reboot the phone with my headphones plugged in to be able to listen to music using my headphones. I f I want it to switch back to speakers, I need to reboot once again with the headphones unplugged.
In the past the solution was to delete the "alsa" folder, but that folder does not seem to exist anymore. I'm using Omar's rom from August 2014 I think. When installing it I did a factory reset, so I'm not sure what else to try. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I have the same problem and it existed on 4.0.4, 4.1.2 (both stock) and now on 4.4.4. (Hazou's CM11) so I'm not sure it's ROM-related, as like you i did a clean flash.
I also had the same issue with ICS and JB stock. I was convinced it was a software issue because it always started to work when I restarted with the headphones in. I know it sounds crazy but have a dig around in the headphone jack for fluff, I picked a few bits out and I *think* that mostly solved the problem. Also try different headphones, I found some fit tighter than others.
Hello,
I am having the same problem on my RAZR i. I am under Android 4.4.2. I installed this: susomena.headphonesindicator (apps Play store) (in french : Indicateur de Casque)
and everything works perfectly. . I am new user and I can not post outside links.
Currently I'm using my Moto XT1058 as my daily driver, about a month ago I've had a problem with all my audio, recording, and media. I'm not sure if a faulty headphone jack would cause this problem.
About 1 and every 15 boots my speakers and media would work. And the microphone to my (I believe my bottom default microphone works(The one that uses the Google Keyboard Auto typing). My headphone jack wouldn't work, my earpeice, and speakerphone mic won't work. It will remain this way until the next reboot.
However about 14 out of 15 reboots... All my audio will not work. Nor any of my media. When I say that I mean I am not able to play a song without my phone giving an error. I am also not able to play any video (YouTube or any web video) without my phone giving my a playback error (That's why I say I do not believe a faulty headphone jack would cause this problem. I thought it would have something to do with the software, but apparently after a reflash to stock I am still not able to get it to work properly. This issue will continue until I reboot it a whole bunch of times and it decides to work one time again.
Sounds weird doesn't it, not sure if there's any fix, but I post here to give if a try to see if anyome could help. Phone doesn't have an unlocked bootloader and never has. It is SIM unlocked (bought it off of eBay while back) I've already tried rerouting the audio problem with 3rd party apps like SoundAbout.
same
I have the same problem no audio from speaker... Headphones or Bluetooth I also get an error trying to play videos
