I was wondering how I can restore my TA partition.
I already flashed back to the stock rom and relocked my bootloader.
I've searched for it myself for quite a while now, but everyone's just explaining how to backup the TA partition. I haven't come across a single explanation on restoring.
I have the zip file ready, but I have no idea what to do with it.
Anyone who can help me out here?
Thanks

I have read a pile of material now on returning to Stock. I am still confused, and want to turn my One back to stock in order to sell it.
I have a Telus Mobility HTC One
Firmware 1.29.661.17
HBOOT= 1.44
I am rooted
I have S on
Ok, now that this is all out of the way, here is what I want to accomplish:
1. I want to return the HTC one to stock
I learned a valuable lesson. I really should have taken a nandroid backup before jumping into flashing custom roms. My bad. I have never done it. Now I know why.
Can someone please point me in the correct direction?
Things I have done/looked for:
-I have searched for a 1.29.661.17 nandroid backup for TWRP. There was a link for one, it is dead. I have PM'd the original poster in hopes they still have it.
-I have searched for a RUU to download. I haven't had much success, or what I saw confused the heck out of me.
Now, if someone could please assist - What is the correct procedure for me? Can someone point me to the right place, link to go?
I appologize. There are a bundle of posts on returning to stock. I didn't mean to open another one.

Here's a link for 1.29.661.5 TWRP nandroid backup. You should be able to restore this and then take OTA's to get you back to 1.29.661.7 and then 1.29.661.17.

Thank you! So one last question. Do I just flash it like any other ROM in twrp? Or do I have to put it in the twrp backups file then hit restore? Because if that is the case I'm kind of pooched. I downloaded the file and copied to data/twrp/backup. When I go to twrp it doesn't show up.

The file you downloaded is in rar format (kind of like a zip). Get winrar and extract the files it contains (system.ext4.win, etc) and then copy them into the twrp backups folder in same manner as other backups, then use TWRP restore function.
Hi all,
I made a backup of my TA partition some time ago and never took time ti unlock my bootloader.
I had to send my SP for repair, and they changed the "electronic card" (I believe this is the motherboard). The phone was working but it would not charge anymore, so I guess the power circuit was burned.
My question is : will my TA partition backup work on my new hardware ? I don't want to do it again if this is not necessary, I just want to move ahead and unlock my bootloader.
Thanks for your answers !

I would bet that "DRM" keys contained in a TA partition are unique and different for every device. otherwise, we would know what those keys are, and they would not have their said purpose. however, backing up the TA partition takes about few seconds, don't see why you wouldn't make a new backup and be on the safe side. you know, just in case...
I thought I had to be root to backup the TA ? So I have to first root, backup TA, unlock bootloader, re-root...
I think I'll do it, but I'm a bit lazy and I don't like to make unnecessary stuff.

What do you mean ? Maybe YOU should RTFM ?
Quote from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 (backup TA 9.9) :
Q: Do I need root for this?
A: Yes, you do need root for this to work. I would advice to use @DooMLoRD's excellent Easy Rooting Toolkit for this, when not already rooted.
So yes, there are a lot of steps to backup the TA. Since I'm on .254, rooting is not just one click away, I have to flash kernel, root, reflash kernel.
If someone told me "your backup is fine because the key is linked to that stuff or that stuff and not to the motherboard, so go ahead" I would have avoided unnecessary hastle AND many people would have learned something in the process, like what the TA partition keys are linked to.
Nothing unnecessary, except maybe for your post, right ?

Dude THINK!
The post you link to says to ASK questions about backup TA in that thread, I believe it even has been answered before. :victory:
If you would have used your brain logic would have told you the encryption is unique, you can't just copy the TA partition of one device to another come on, its so simple.
Besides that? Why even bother to unlock the bootloader if you dont want to go through the hassle of installing new / other roms? You know what this website is about? Not about being lazy and stupid but about being inventive and curious. And of course people need to share their information, like I said before, people should take the time to READ, not be LAZY.
So don't be lazy. There's enough fat people in the world Enjoy your phone!:highfive:
Okay guys.. As members, both should know better.
First of all. If you go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 and read a bit you would know that making a TA backup is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO!
Also read a bit futher. Root is required to use this tool..
And a extra detail YOU CAN NOT I REPEAT CAN NOT USE THE TA BACKUP OF SOMEONE ELSE TO RESTORE YOURS BECAUSE IT WILL HARD BRICK YOUR DEVICE
As stated in the Q&A of that thread:

It is important to read the entire OP/thread to prevent this kind of questions Also read the replies.. They can answer questions for you
Also as an answer to your question:
NO you have an entire new internal system so the files are diffrent. If you havent unlock your bootloader yet make a backup first before doing so and remove the one you already have. I think you will hardbrick your device when you restore your TA backup from before the repair
I know better ^^
OK take it easy guys, it was a simple question meant to have a simple answer.
I should have asked my question in the "backup TA" thread, that's true, but I don't think it was a stupid question.

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for.
I know TA partitions are unique, the question was whether an electronic card replacement necessarily meant a new TA partition. Does it mean everything changed, from IMEI to hardware keys ? Well, the answer seems to be "yes", but I don't think it was SO obvious.
Thanks again for the answer.
Yes a new motherboard means also a new IMEI..
Hi guys.
New to this forum (well, back after a good 3 years) and I decided to pick up an Xperia Z1 to get back into Android. Did the usual that I do with my Android phones, and quickly went ahead and bootloader unlocked.
Little did I know that there was such a thing as DRM Keys and TA Partitions that required backing up. Yeah, stupid me being all excited on Christmas Eve.
What I'm wondering is, will I be able to use this guide to restore functions of the camera and other hardware/software related bits (BionZ, Noise Cancelling etc) without a valid TA Partition backup and DRM Keys? I've read through a fair amount of that thread looking to see if anyone has done it in the same situation as I'm in, and well, I've found people requesting .FTF with TA Partitions in them (Doesn't that brick your phone?).
If I can possibly restore with a .FTF downloaded off the internet, I'll do so but input would be helpful so I don't go bricking my new device... I'd like to somehow at least restore the camera stuff so that I don't get horrible low light photos, and from there install a custom ROM like iHackers.
If it helps, I'm on build number 14.4.A.0.157 (4.4.4 I think).
Cheers.

using TA partitions from other devices will brick your phone that's what i know.
So I have a backup system.img and could root, but I'm curious if anyone using a Sprint phone has successfully restored their device using a backup system.img. I understand why and know that it should work, but I'm curious if anyone has actually tried it, successful or otherwise.
Sorry to kind of hijack your thread, but how does one go about making a system.img backup? I'll be receiving my G4 today and rooting is the first thing I'd like to do and I'd like to have some sort of backup if I screw it up or things don't work correctly.
Thanks
Edit: Found in this post here. Like Morasta, I'd also like to know if anyone tried restoring their original system image.
Lost my backup image in a wiping incident but thanks to another user here I got an unrooted image and flashed that and didn't have root anymore. So if you know what you are doing then you can flash the unrooted system.img back but dd is a scary command even for those of us who know linux and have used it before.... actually, scratch that. Those of us familiar with it are probably the ones terrified because we know the damage it can cause but everyone else is blissfully unaware.
TOT is up but I don't have time to cover how to flash it.

Hello dear community,
opening bootloader reportedly wipes /data partition on XZ, so can I back it up (TWRP/CWM), then unlock bootloader and then restore it so I don't lose the data?
Second question, if I back up the whole internal storage in a LOCKED state (if a new LineageOS based ROM after unlocking doesn't work properly), can I restore it back so I have my current one back? WIll bootloader stay unlocked?
I apologize, I don't have a clear idea how these things work.
Thank you all!

Regarding first question, yes unlocking bootloader wipes /data partition and I am not sure if you could backup whole firmware before unlocking but to be honest I don't know does it wipe firmware(I think not? if not it your device will be factory reset). So you'd have to backup your data(backup to computer for example) and you could use Titanium backup to backup application data(requires root).Or you could even try to install custom recovery on locked bootloader and back it up that way.
Flashing Sony firmware again locks your device(I think..).
Don't forget to backup TA partition(DRM keys etc).
Sorry if this info didn't help you.It has been a while since I unlocked/rooted my device.

Thanks! I've made a little research so I don't ask fully noobish, and loosing DRM keys means losing Bravie screen Engine and TrackID app ability, right? That doesn't mean that much to me (I don't use Bravia and I can use Shazam).
Using Titanium to backup my apps as well as messages etc. is a sure thing.
Yes, as you say, unlocking does a factory reset on the phone (wiping the /data partition). So, I don't know if I understood you well, backing up /data partition via custom recovery (I have TWRP and CWM Dual Recovery), then unlocking bootloader (which factory resets my phone) and then restoring that /data partition which I backed-up before will work without problems?
Thank you again for your responses

Losing DRM keys also means worser camera image quality.
Flashing recovery without unlocking bootloader is a possibility. Then you could backup data, etc. But I have no experience and I can't guarantee anything.
