Up top, this isn't a "best ROM" or "what should I run" sort of thread. It's also a topic that can easily provoke rage so please don't think that I'm trying to convince anyone of one thing or another. This is just me being curious.
After starting with Android a few years ago, I've noticed an increasing amount of "flashing fatigue" setting in lately. Sure, I'll root (because I have a lot of utility apps that require root), but the appeal of custom ROMs is fading fast. The Google Edition port was my latest (and longest standing) ROM for my One, and before that I'd tried one or two stock-derivative ROMs (save one bad AOSP experience back when we had sleep of death going on). I'm back to stock now, and trying a "fuller" experience (no launcher replacement, etc.-- minus root, again, for some XPosed tweaks like disabling the NFC icon).
This phone's now been out a while, so I'm curious: how many of you have "settled down" so to speak on one side or the other?
The first Android I owned was an Epic 4G and then Epic 4G Touch. Both left a ton to be deaired from a software standpoint and I easily flashed 3 dozen or more different roms between those two phones.
Flash forward to the HTC One and I've never felt the need to leave the stock ROM. I do use the Google Experience Launcher and have replaces some of the stock apps with better versions from 3rd party devs, but honestly I don't really see a point. Performance, battery life and functionality all seem to have hit a perfect balance with this phone. And like you suggested, the fatigue of flashing is really heavy these days especially since I'm not looking to fix a flaw or add a feature. Although once a working KitKat ROM hits us I will probably root and flash just to get a feel. Though admittedly I've always found the bone stock look of Android to be lacking visually.

The very first phone I flashed over to a custom firmware was the LG G2X from T-Mobile. The android experience on that phone was very tasteless and bloated. Support from LG was less than non-existent. I found that I couldn't really stand using the phone on stock so I flashed a few different roms until I landed on eaglesblood. Although there was a lot broken on eaglesblood, I found it an upgrade to stock. Fast forward like Adam described and I have been on the HTC One for nearly 6 months. In that time I have flashed perhaps a few custom roms. In the end, I reverted back to stock. The One is a solid phone from both a software and hardware stand-point. I find myself checking my BlinkFeed a few times an hour and if I am on a senseless ROM I feel lost without it.
Tl;dr I have no need to ever leave stock. Stock rooted is good enough for me.

I've been running RageOne and have found it to be more than enough from what I need for my HTC one
Same here. I started with Hero, then Evo Shift, Evo 3D, Evo 4G LTE and now The One. I previously always rooted and flashed multiple roms until found one that like and stable enough for daily use. With the One, I honestly haven't done nothing to it. I find it prefect for everyday use. No problem was so ever. At times I feel weird because I never had an HTC or android phone for less than a week without rooting it and etc, but with the One no need since good as is.
I know also pending amount of developers we have currently since most leave to develop in other phones or carrier based phone model is what we can choose from roms available which is less than the other carrier model.

The HTC One is my first non Nexus smartphone, so dealing with all the bloat that comes with Sense and stock has been hard for me. When I was using my Nexus S 4G I used Slim Rom and loved it for its minimal nature and stuck with it. Slim bean 4.3 stable has been a great rom for me, though now that the 4.4 builds are out I've found them more suitable for a daily driver. Slimkat is awesome and I personally cant wait for it to reach stable. Minimal is my cup of tea, add in Google Experience Launcher and I'm one happy guy.
I had a Hero, then a whole bunch of Shift4G's. Rooted all of those because I could make them noticeably faster, increase the battery life, and get rid of apps I didn't use.
With the One, it's already fast enough that I wouldn't notice an increase much. The battery life is great for the way I use it, I recently had a stretch that was nearly 40 hours off the charger (obviously I didn't use it a heck of a lot during that time). And being able to hide the apps I don't want from the app drawer means I forget they're even there. Because of that, I haven't seen a good reason to put a different ROM on this phone...yet
Since official update missing from too long time in latest months I have searching for alternative ROM or MOD since I cannot spend a lot of money for a new smartphone again after only a couple of years and with stock ROM Optimus for some reason is more laggy than smartphone far less powerful.
Unfortunately in all I have found some issue and problems, so now I'm wondering what are the ROM\MODS more used by the P880 community on XDA..
Eventually a list of not-working things (eg missing radio, broken GPS, unusable MHL HDMI out etc.) would be appreciated.

I am using CM 11 nightlies and I am waiting for its final release !
after more than 1 year of flashing many ROMs, I think I've found my best tradeoff with this: omni-4.4.4-20150520-p880-FINAL
No bugs for my use and excellent smothness.
The only drawback is the long time required to turn mobile data ON.

My experience after 2 years using this phone and custom roms:
- phone is s**t (but I do not intend to buy a new one, so here goes..)
- Used some recommended roms laying around, but here are some roms I tested and used for longer period.
- I use phone for everyday use. I want lagfree, fast and good battery life (at least in deep sleep). I mostly use some simple apps, browsing, messages, pdf books, camera and video recording.
1. CM11 (4.2.2.)
Great rom, with some bugs, but nothing serious.
Occasional lags, good battery life - some builds were awsome (less than 0,3%/hour batt consumption).
Maybe little too slow occasionally.
2.CM11 (4.4.4)
Also great rom, with some nice features, much more polished than 4.2.2. At start there were great builds, but after some time it got worse. Probably kernel related.
Quite good speed, some lags, quite good batt (but not so good as 4.2.2).
If you did not restart phone in a while, it got very laggy - at least second period of rom development.
3.MAHDI FINAL
Best rom - is`s features are endless. Great for customising everything, quite good speed, but laggy from time to time - when you most need it! Battery similar to CM11 4.4.4, but better with speed. Quite good, but too much lag for me.
3.MOURTA LS+KERNEL
Best rom I used becouse of smoothness, features and customization of whole rom. Really smooth.
BUT it has a bug with gapps - if you do not google enable update service(s) - it does not go to deep sleep.
And MAJOR DOWNSIDE - worst batt life of all the roms I used. Tried everything, but batt life did not get any better. Especially when you use the phone - batt drains as hell.
So I got a felling that all this speed and other goodies comes with bad batt.
I can do this on my own, with any rom, by putting governor to performance
Too bad for this rom... Goodbye!
4.OMNI 4.4.4. final
So I tried this recommended rom - after reading some forum posts.
It is not so great with features (some of them I miss), but it is almost lagfree, quite fast, good batt life..
Maybe only rom I used, that is stable and fast enough for everyday use..
I miss some functions and LS speed , but for now - I am satisfied.
For the end
- I did not tried any custom kernels, at least for longer period. Had a felling they all got too bad batt life for my taste.
- tried also scripts and tweaks 2.2, but I did not notice any big improvment over my demands (stable, fast, batt).
And it would be great if we all together find the best rom for everyday use ?!
And maybe upload the zips to some cloud, for later generations to use ?
I personally would like to get CM11 4.2.2 builds.
And CM11 unofficial builds to try.
That would be great, if whole LG 4x community could create final ROM for our phone - with everything done, and working as it shoud be.
Personally I use Resurrection Remix 5.4.5 ROM. Pretty good performance and battery life after some tweaks (Power Nap, disabling some wakelocks etc.). But it wasn't updated since May 2015 Sometimes it's going crazy: interface, and system crashes, but that's ocassionally (every day ? - f%#&#).
This phone is S%$t, and sometimes I want to throw it through the window... But i'm poor xD

Some times I get no signal and the phone wont wake up from deep sleep but most of the time it's not bad at all.
Yeah bros, i totally understand you all...Every ROM i used (some for short, other for long periods of time) eventually turned to be ****. I of course dont blame not one dev, as their doing their best to keep alive a crappy smartphone. Right now i use for some time the CM 12.1 i think, as it was the most (at least) usable ROM, whitout huge bugs and a whole lot of lag. There were a lot of times i wanted to burn this useless piece of **** and throw it out the window...But finally the time has come. I ordered a LG G4! Comming next week. I will miss you all out there, as we shared strugle... :crying::crying::highfive:
I want an update to this survey. Still I haven't found a ROM where everything works. In some ROM doesn't work correctly the GPS, in other ROMS I aren't able to scan QR codes. other ROMS have TV out broken, fm radio broken or videocamera not fully functional or with worsened quality... other ROMS are laggy or with freezes.
This is a 1,5 Ghz quad core with 1GB ram, is an outdated device but still far more powerful than many entry levels in the marked that are released with recent Android OS version and are way faster despite their hardware.
What are the most newer ROM fully working for daily use?

The only not-working stuffs, that I know of, are QR code scanning and FM radio. QR code scanning can never be fixed for grouper blobs based ROMs. FM radio is never a critical feature. Most custom ROMs choose to ignore this for most Android phones, not just LG O4X.
If you ever build the ROM from source, then you will appreciate this Lollipop ROM that it is preserving most of the pristine Google AOSP experience as much as possible.
Unfortunately for me that my taste of Android OS has been less than desirable until Lollipop. It is my personal choice that I won't look back on anything lesser than Lollipop on my Android phone. This is also one of the reason I am staying away even from LG stock JB ROM. If we take away issues with OS aging, then we hope to be able to declare that stock ROM should be perfect. But I can tell you that for LG O4X, LG had failed this.
In short, I just want to tell you that it is very rare to find custom ROMs matching the functionalities of stock ROM perfectly. If you had to take the route of custom ROMs, then you need to choose base on features that matter most for your usage.
Is there any rom with sustained performance and stagefright fixes (maybe f2fs for perfomance)?
I don't really care if its 4.3, 4.4 or 5.1
As long as it has halfway decent battery life (I know the tegra3 is power hungry) and it doesn't have seconds of lag in whatsapp like the stock rom, I am happy.

I mean some Rom works for me very well but same rom for another friend dosn't work as it's supposed to be.
Lately I am using Euphoria for daily driver. I like LP features. Jb or Kit Kat doesn't satisfied me. And I decide to buy new phone because like I said before P880 's hardware doesn't enough anymore. I think I will buy Z5.

Yes, I do agree with u on the fact that our devices are somewhat different from one another and we are having somewhat difficult time in coping with the new OS provided that our hardware are a bit outdated. However, I think this phone is really endurable and I am very satisfied with this, I have been using this phone for almost three years and it still function as it is so I have to say I am impressed. Currently I am trying out cm11 and mahdi 4.4., I have to say cm11 is rock stable but I would say mahdi has a lot of customizable features that I like. So it is quite difficult to choose among them. But for LP rom, I think it requires way too much resources that our phone might not be able to cope with.

May I suggest beanstalk. Good battery, lots of optional features like halo etc (only thing that doesnt work is the screen recorder). If there was a lollipop version, then I would run it in heartbeat :good:

I am running Mahdi at the moment.
Works, responsiveness is fine. But sometimes PlayServices go bezerk and cause wakelocks, until the battery dies.
And Whatsapp sometimes get's messed up when the screen rotates.

I am currently using ICS Stock 4.0.3
Also tried custom roms like Cm11 and Cm12.1
For me Stock (ICS) is good as it provide me best battery life for charging,usage,camera,wifi etc

Try to use privacy guard to block the wake-up and keep awake of the google play service, then the drain should be gone.
Not sure if this has been posted or perhaps if this can start a whole thread on 100% working custom roms.
This may come off as a bit of a rant, and i am no begger nor a complainer.. but I have reach my wits end. This isnt some newb who has just been in the scene, I have been around since the G nexus and never ran into so many problem then with this phone. I am so tired of getting updates that hose roms.. or roms that need 3-4 band aides before its even usable. Rom/developers that dont even test for the phone that they are releasing for leaving us dependent on the care of the developer to take the time to fix said issues.. CAF roms that constantly lose LTE connections. NON CAF builds where we are lucky if GPS works and doesnt reboot our phones. I mean come on. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. What does it take for us to just get something that works? Does this mean we HAVE to use stock roms to achieve this or is it safe to say, with all the revisions, models, updates, that the lg g2 has been and will always be a lemon.
What is YOUR opinion on this? No one else feel the same way as I?
It just seems like enough is enough. I cant think of the last custom rom that wasnt stock based that wasnt 100% working for lg g2.
Can anyone recommend some custom roms asop or other that WORK out of the box, no special flashing, no special permission, JUST WORKS?!

I have used Xdabebb's rom and other rom's that are based on stock rom's, they work great, while I had issues with CM/AOSP. The stock rom's are good enough for daily use.
I agree wholeheartedly. It is downright daunting, all the different roms out there and they all seem to have some sort of bug or function that doesn't work. As ECrispy said, there are some that are "good enough", I noted that you said that, rather than "great" or "perfect" or "very good". Is there a rom out there that's a bug-free, no compromise, light weight rom that's better than stock? I have my qualms with stock, but but but, everything works.
Which is the most stable stock rom? I need to reflash mine as I have been running on an old rom for about a year. Any suggestions?
I would be running the cloudy g4 stock rom, for the camera benefits and the fact that its not completely ugly like G2 stock. Except no matter how much I mess with it I cannot get all the verizon networking to function properly.
I'm on and older JackpotClavin cm build, I've been on his builds for a while

I believe this is the issue that that caused the VS980 support to be dropped from CM. The last commit was something along the lines of "let's pull builds until someone figures out the RIL problems". I have been unable to find a CAF rom that will consistently connect to LTE like a stock based rom. I'm currently running GalacticStryder's PA build for VS980, it will keep a data connection (unlike other roms that will lose connectivity when switching from LTE>3g or wifi>LTE). Unfortunately, it doesnt like to switch back to LTE after dropping to 3g in a timely fashion.
Im currently using a g5 ported rom for g2, stock. So far, loving it.

I've been using CM13 for several days and one issue I had was the data not working. The automatic APN settings provided by CM upon connecting to the internet over the cell towers didn't work, so I simply deleted them all, manually input the APN values specific to my mobile provider (China Telecom) and then GSM+WCDMA as the preferred network type. You MUST know what network type and APN settings are required for your phone in order for you to get 3G or 4G data connection. The only small but minor issue is when you listen to music from the speaker, not using headphones, it's very low. Anyone who has a G2 knows that it has ****ty sound quality if you don't use headphones. On that note, WOW, the music player and equalizer on the new CM13 are amazing! This has now boosted the volume by at least 30-35% for me. The base and surround sound while using headphones is clean, crisp and clear. It blows away the sound quality using stock android 5.0.1
I can't stress that enough because I have dirt cheap headphones that now sound like they're moderately high quality because of that. As far as other bugs/issues, they're all very minor things which aren't very noticeable and don't affect the overall working condition of the phone. All-in-all I salute the CyanogenMod team for all of their efforts. Going from Android lollipop 5.0.2 with all of the bloatware apps, fast draining battery, and consistently slow performance of the phone, I can safely say I'm very satisfied with the transition.

Ok, I've had my Z3C since october 2014 and still have several months on the contract.
Other than the battery running less hours, Its pretty much been running great and don't mind keeping it for a while.
Its rooted with KitKat. Has a unlockable bootloader. And I know LP is out there, I wasn't too keen on the look originally, but seen many people using it as standard. I haven't for the year been following the forums, just busy, so.
My question, with all that's happened. There's a lot to sift through over a year, in a nutshell - is a rooted LP stable/smooth to use everyday with xposed? What are the basic hates of LP different to KK?
Is MM ready or still too early? Would it be better to wait, as KK is like windows 7 to me lol. It works lol.
Has the camera improved at all? What happened to RAW implementation?
it seems that other phones that use the same exmor sensor, in my eyes (as a pro photographer) their images handle contrast/colours better and backlighting.
Btw has anybody changed their battery? Is it possible?
Hope it's not a lot to ask. There's way too much forums to search through of 365 days lol.
Sensible or weird answers please lol. Thx

1. The phone runs butter smooth and super stable with LP + root + xposed. I've been running this configuration for... three months now (since 23.4.A.1.232 FW came out). Everything runs great.
2. I think battery is still worse than on KK. I've never got more than 7,5h OST. I don't know how much I got on KitKat because I've never used it for more than a couple days so no comparison. But I've heard the phone was capable of even more than 10h OST. I don't know Anyways the battery lasts for full 2 days of usage for me. And today I'm really light user, the old days of massive gameplay came to an end for now but I always have WiFi, BT and Mobile data active so I think the battery is OK.
3. MM is not ready, still in works. We have beta program but I'd rather wait for a full release AND even a little bit more... until the bugs are solved because Sony's fresh ROM's are like a freaking bug magnet.
4. Camera - no comparison to KK. I think it sometimes behaves like it was confused. Overall it's good, pictures are great but sometimes I miss my old Xperia T. It did incredible photos (https://goo.gl/photos/sGQGy4mmPu7pSfLi8 - enjoy!)...
5. No RAW... "We're cooked"... for now
6. Battery replacement is possible but it is very complex, you have to remove the whole motherboard to change the batery because it's underneath and there is no way to access it other than removing back panel. I'd suggest sending the phone to warranty claiming that there's something wrong with the battery. Maybe they'll replace it
7. Awesome phone, I'm glad I switched from Xperia T to Z3C

Wow. That's exactly what I wanted know.
So the camera not any better and No Raw, typical Sony. Too bad. I don't know how the other phone makers are doing it, using the same sensor as well.
Yeah, I know we've moved on, but my nokia n95 with zeiss lense took amazing images even if a little noisy.
Yeah, sony is determinately a software bug magnet. I remember the headaches with sonicstage minidisc days lol.
I thought the battery would be difficult to change. I thought If I could it, it will act like a new phone again. I did my HTC One x, so may look into it anyway.

I went ahead and installed 5.1.1 STOCK 23.4.A.1.264 SLiM 4.5.
Runs really well. Xposed functions great. And it has new camera libraries from the Z5 (though I haven't tested/compared yet).
Overall a really good rom for locked AND unlocked bootloader phones.

I've been very happy with MM on my N6 and still get great battery life and performance. I'm comfortable with ROMs/mods and my phone is pretty much where I want it in terms of functionality and UI. After months of debate, I'm still unsure if it's worth moving to Nougat (and not impressed with O preview either). I'm so unconvinced that I don't even feel like investing the time in testing 7.x particularly after reading posts of battery or compatibility issues. I'm not trying to be "stuck in the past" but just don't see a convincing reason to update.
The last dedicated thread I saw on MM vs N was from Oct 2016, any new opinions since then?
I'm thinking about moving back to MM because of the terrible battery life and performance on nougat.
In the same boat. MM seems to give me better battery life but Nougat seems a little bit more snappier.
I've only been on 7.0 for a couple of weeks, but no complaints.

Hey... Flashed Pure Nexus with EX Kernel as soon as its nougat iteration appeared and never looked back. Well I can't really compare about battery life as my phone is now 2 years old. Still it performs very well, nothing to complain about. Screen on time is the same and standby is better on Android 7 i think. Of course stock firmware is not as polished as it should, but custom ROMs are here to change that. I don't need that much mods on my phone anymore except theme, ad blocker, theme ready apps and maybe a few other things.
What kind of incompatibility issues are you talking about?
Well, I understand you don't want to waist your time , but it's just a matter of backup/flash/test. You won't loose anything and if you don't like it, you can always revert back to MM anyway. I think a weekend is more than enough to decide if it's worth it for you or not.
I usually prefer testing things myself and not based on people statements. Because everyone has his tastes and they unlikely match mines...

I'm on 7.1.1 stock with Franco Kernel, encryption disabled and F2FS filesystem.
No problems with stability, lags or battery life. In fact, I usually get around 5h+ of screen on time, which is pretty good for a 2 years old phone.
Usually, battery life and stability are user fault. Of course we can't say everything is related to users... But if you configure correctly your apps permissions, don't install anything out of the play store and don't do things like undervolting... You should be good to go.

I'd have to go back and look at the threads I've read, the only thing I recall being a deal-killer was not being able to use net.tethering under Nougat (is that still an issue)? I've been very happy with Pure (MM) with Franco on my other devices but have kept stock on my N6. I agree with testing it out myself, just need to find some time, but generally trust opinions on XDA.
Phone has been solid for years and rooted with Nova, adaway, lightflow, multiwindow, and tethering has met my needs. Maybe I'm just being lazy or in a rut but definitely would like something more revolutionary to encourage the upgrade.

Sadly I can't really help you with net.tethering as I don't use it...
Just make a search in Q/A or open a thread if nothing shows up. I'm sure you'll get an answer... :good:

Couple of days with stock 7.1.1 and so far it's fine, nothing that made me thrilled with the update but nothing that makes me want to roll back. Can't say it's snappier than MM or has better battery life, though. Enabled tethering using the usual net.tethering entry as well as 'settings put global tether_dun_required 0' so nothing lost there. Guess if this is the last, full-point update for my beloved N6 I can live with it (until I find an annoyance I can't stand and flash Pure or something else).

Bought my N6 used back in September. I still have official 7.0 My device has never stuttered or slowed down (outside of extremely low battery and high CPU apps). I have a lot of apps installed, I use it hard, and run some demanding apps (like raw photo conversion) on occasion. And I just clocked 3+ days of battery use with nearly 7 hours of SOT under a variety of uses. I can't imagine not using N on this device.

Curious, what problems do you have in 711? Those issues aside, the OP asked about 7.0 as opposed to 711.
terrible battery life? maybe you need a new battery, I get above 6 SOT hours using Nitrogen ROM

Its all about standby battery life when using a bt device like an android watch. Not going to get into arguements here but have tested and 7.0 doesnt have the bad drain on my unit and 711 absolutely does. Thus cannot be an old battery if the only change i made was OS version and drastic difference in battery drain. 711 has about 2x+ the standby drain with bt on. 7.0 and 6.0 have much better drain
