Help me guys! The phone is melting! :crying:
My phone heats up when:
1-Connecting to charger
2-Opening the phone and start browsing for anything(apps, games, internet). games are the most cause of this heat.
3-Sometimes when I sleep I put the phone under the pillow(for alarm), then I sleep with 100% battery level, I woke up and the phone is about to melt, battery indicator says 10% or even less.
All of that heat problems causes unreasonably battery draining as well! :crying:
NOTE: When I turn off the phone and connect the charger, it doesn't get any heat or battery draining and the phone charges correctly.
I don't think its hardware or battery problem, cause when I turn off the phone I don't get any problems at all.
Any help would be much appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

have you tried to reflash the software ? or try to go to setting >> battery >> and post a pic of this menu so we can see wich is the mmost app that consum battery and when ur device is overheating go to application >> running and make sure that overheat control app is running !
btw am xperia v owner so do not take my answer 100% correct
Running phones under a pillow are never a good idea. It will prevent the phone cpu from cooling down and will make even minor wakelocks become a serious heat problem.

I'm actually impressed from these results, Google services and Instagram, I actually felt something about Instagram since I installed it, its one of the most apps that heats the phone when I open it.
Overheat control is running.
Now I've installed task manger widget to kill apps, thank god the phone is getting better, heat problem is less now. I used to kill apps with default android task manger by sliding apps. looks like it wasn't really that sufficient.

Unless your task manager widget has root permissions it won't do anything more than swiping apps away in recents.
Try the app Greenify. It will do what you need.

What apps does she have installed which you don't?
For example, if she uses the Facebook/Twitter apps and they're updating themselves every 10 mins as opposed to every hour (or even manually) then her battery will get eaten alive!

how do i do that? in the task manager?
I also turned the sync to her facebook app to 'never' .
Turn GPS off when not needed and WiFi when not needed that usually helps. Also when wifi is on turn off notify me about new networks. Make sure screen brightness is set to automatic also.
if she has live wallpapers thats a bad ideea for a lasting battery, live wallpapers use cpu.. cpu user electricity, and the battery gets empty really fast. i`m runing ~ 40hours with nonstop wifi or data mode activated, depends on my locations, 1 push email runing 24/7 skype 24/7 and i talk for about 10-30 min per day... so... install cpu temp v2 and uncheck the screen timeout (set it to 10 minutes) and let the phone on the table and look at the cpu tempv2 if the cpu drops to 1-5 % @100mhz , if it doesn`t drop below 10 percent @100mhz then you have some nasty apps that are not idle.
if im in an area where i get 5 bars i can get more battery life while using my phone for a while, than I would if I am in an area where i get no connection or an area where my connection is constantly dropping. This is because the phone constantly tries to connect to the service provider and uses up tons of battery doing it.

I have 2 days battery life with medium usage, download a stripped rom and keep it basic on the widget/wallpaper/amount of apps.
Download damiangto 1.2 gold underclock to 800 mhz (or keep it at 1000 mhz, but it doesnt change so much in speed for me)
undervolt by steps. as long as your phone doesnt die in sleepmode you can go lower. Im undervolting at -100 without any problems.
Download superpower or juicedefender. I have good experiences with both, using superpower at the moment and its free and good.
black backgrounds and themes are better for battery life because of the Super AMOLED screen.
You dont have to totally discharge your phone before charging it, charging whenever possible is actually better for long term battery life.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the replies everyone
I'l check all of the information out
I installed
Battery mix (has discharge graph)
Smart battery
Battery eta (has Discharge rate)
I swapped batteries with mine (hers still discharged too fast)
annoyingly it mucked up the battery discharge statistics because my battery was full when i put it in her phone.
She doesn't really muck about with her phone, very few apps or wallpaper etc.
I just go crazy with mine.
my battery discharge (with loads of use see CPU graph)

her battery use (phone was in her bag not used all day at work)
she was in a different location to me. see no CPU activity either
I looked in running services
mapslocationfriendservice (latitude) was 26% mine was about 9
and android system was higher on her phone
I mucked about unnistalled and installing maps using market and titanium backup
also I installed OCLF on her phone (one click lag fix) because it is on my phone. also the battery apps were slowing it down.
In short
her battery is plummeting about 3 hour if its in use and 11 in standby
its not the battery
i think is something to do with the android system.
probably latitude
but i could be wrong
I'll have another crack at it later.
Worst case i could master reset and restore titanium backups of her texts and contacts and stuff. but I like to sort it out
Cheers for the advice, I'll check it all out.
I'll post back if there any change in the situation
quick update
Her phone appears to be running better
I think it was google maps latitude update.
I cant 100% be sure.
but the result of the stuff i tried on the above post seemed to have changed her phone from the poor performance it suddenly started getting.
I am thinking of trying out 'superpower' and or 'juicedefender' on mine and her phones in the future.
Thanks for the tips everyone
Alright so like many other people on this and other forums, I updated to ics 4.0.3 two days ago and been experiencing battery issues since. But my battery issue is a bit different from what I've read about. My note has no problem going into deep sleep, when i go sleep and wake up deep sleep is at 98-99% and my battery drains about 1%. But when I turn on my phone and start using it no matter what I do, the battery drains about 1% every 3-5 minutes.
Phone settings:
- I always have my brightness at 0 and have screen filter on to make it even less bright(even though battery drains about the same with or without this on) (batter settings still show that screen is taking up most of the battery)
- With wifi on or off battery drains just as fast.
- I havnt started my new data plan yet so im always on airplane mode( battery drains the same with this on or off)
- My note was never rooted
- I basicly have no widgets on anymore because i deleted most of them but doesnt help battery life.
- With power savings on or off battery still drains the same amount
- The only apps i have installed after ics are ones from googe play(netflix, chrome, and other simple apps)/ i deleted my emulators and other apps that iv'e downloaded and installed
Can anyone please help me with this issue
bump

Did you perform a hard reset on your device after the update?
if not, then see if you can try it and get back again with your screenshots.. don't forget to do some re-calibration also on your battery. This works on my end before. Not sure if it works on yours, but hey.. there's no harm in trying right? just give it a shot bud...

Turn off the sync. Kill Background applications and See if it works for you...
Also download Battery Calibration from play store... Open it when its fully charged and start calibration... Let your phone battery fully drained and then charge it again to full without pauses...

Wtf are you trying to brick op's phone? You should get a warning..
Op never ever ever ever ever ever do a factory reset from ANY ics stock kernel.. It will get your phone bricked.. Or maybe but just maybe not? Anyways will you take the chance?
I was on 4.0.3 stock and yeah the battery it's horrible.. Don't know why the phone barely goes deep sleep.. Check this with cpu spy free app from market
Since the phone upgraded itself to 4.0.4 I have been able to run 14 hours with 5 hours screen and the phone its always on deep sleep
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
yea i knew theres a huge risk involved =/ , is there anyway i can update to 4.0.4 because it's not showing up on kies
Yeah following the several guides around.. They all lead you to download 4.0.4 and a gingerbread rom from Sammobile, downgrading your phone to gingerbread by flashing it via odin and then flashing ics 4.0.4 via odin also .. So go ahead and read some..
Cheers

Check Android Development Section...
cpuspy and betterbatterystats to check partial wakelocks and whats keeping phone awake. A gazilion threads on that. read them. You need these as Samsungs analytical view state nothing usefull, they need to fire the designer of that.
Next to this I see lot of screen on time, how much time roughly is that in total, you are actually using device?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
my phone doesn't have the deep sleep problem people have. my on screen time is about 6 hours before it drains completely and by on screen time it could be on the home screen with no wifi/net and no apps running with just the screen on, and the battery would still go down 1% every 3-5 min
So ics 4.0.4 came out for the UK version of note so i updated via kies. This didnt fix battery life at all, in addition iit came with another bug where my phone gets hot and drains battery when turn off the screen after playing any media file....So my question now is can i root 4.0.4 if i have the Emmc bug?
Something was draining too much battery when screen was off, so last week I installed BBS.

I have the same wakeups so i guess its normal.
Try using greeenify and use it to put all apps you dont need when the screen is off into dormancy.
You can also use tasker to switch to 2G mode when screen is off, since then you dont need a fast internet connection.
Still your drain does not look that bad, i get around 2-3% drainage per hour with occasional use of the phone. Of course this goes way up when I do something work intensive.
So you could be fine unless you have not been using the phone and still get 4% drainage per hour.

I agree that it isn't a disaster, but I've never had that experience of "2 days battery".
Anyway... Tasker is a good idea!

Jeah the 2 days is only possible if you only ocassionally use the phone for email, whats app , browsing. And then also only because of the outstanding standby mode during night times which is around 0.2%/ h. During the day if you check your phone regularly standby mode will not really kick in hence the higher battery consumption also when the screen is off.

Hmm, may be firmware related?here is my setup.
Im on .98 since .77 screws up my tap2wake.
greenified paid version with everything put to sleep including some system apps i dared to put to rest
Connected to Wifi , no mobile data enabled
stamina mode on, xposed module bootmanager with only the things i need to boot up
Sony enterprise service and my xperia disabled through adb.
Syncing only on for my email and some google functions. messaging apps i sync manually since i dont add contacts every day.
all xperia sharing things frozen, like twitter facebook life log etc. with titanium backup.
no facebook app (i think this one is a terrible battery drainer) and i dont need it.
This basically gives me a straight line in the night with almost no battery usage during standby.
Hope this helps
On .77 i have 0% drain overnight (around 8 hours). I keep wifi off and no stamina settings. I set network mode to GSM only

Yes, it must like that. If that method not working for you can try Amplify module for reducing wakelocks, or you can use MyAndroidTools for disabling service that causing wakelock.
I will give you 3 options to solve android system drain and it will 100% solve un-necessary drains.
1st Method this most probably solve issue
*Don't use fingerprint scanner use Face unlock or pattern
Note: If you will use fingerprint scanner it will give you alot of wakelocks because fingerprint scanner detects very little dust(which barely you can see with eyes) not only fingers. If you have phone in your jeans or trouser pocket it will drain battery 100%. Device will also heat while you get cdfinger wakelocks almost 5000+ in 10 minutes.
2nd Method Re-calibrate battery
Charge to 100% and use untill 0% . Charge while Mobile switch off upto 100 and use again do this 2 times.
3rd Method
Install full firmware from asus site copy this file to root directory and reboot and you will see update notification.
Note:This is for stock recovery and will wipe all data.
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZB601KL/UL-ASUS_X00T-WW-15.2016.1805.318-user.zip
Thanks for reading hope this will help someone. I found this solution my self by detecting wakelock and flashed full firmware i did not get any drain later.

Try this little trick which worked for me real good. After charging the device, restart it and go to Android system app info and trun off background activity (if it is already turned off turn on and off immediately). Do this every time you charge the device. Share your experience if you try it.

It doesn't do anything look at the wakelock detail its the faulty fingerprint scanner and stopping or changing system activity will give you negative effects on overall usability.
Recalibrating the battery may fixed the problem, but to completely fix it you probably want to switch to another ROM completely, plus installing stuff like Amplify + Greenify. You do need to root your phone for this. Don't ask me which ROM though since I'm on stock myself and too lazy to go through that process again for now. Maybe sometimes early next year we'll see.

Its Normal wakelock while using phone or having data connection or wifi connected and only problem is cdfinger wakelock which heats phone and eats a lot of battery and can not be solved by any app. For ex greenify. Ampify etc only can be fixed by asus by making changes in kernel.
Hi. From a while, my note 8 battery life is doing terrible. I tought i had to change the battery (is an year old phone with high usage). But then, after a full day i went to charger with - hear me out - 64% (After a normal day of usage!!) I was very happy then sh!t happend. From some time, the battery draining increased a lot. Like after 12 h with only 2 hrs of screen time i need to charge my phone. Then i found that voice wakeup ( from bixby who is entierly disabled ) used whole 17% of my battery. This **** scared me and i want bixby out of my phone. How an app that is disabled to drain whole 17%? When i saw that my phone was 57% so without that draining i would had 74%!! THAT MAKES ME ANGRY. Is something i can do do get rid of that trash?

I am literally having the same issues. For the past 2 days I get up and after 3 hrs my phone is at 55 percent. I thought it was because I just got a gear s3 frontier, but I dont think it is that. I did get a recent s.w. upgrade a few days after I connected the gear and that's when it appeared a lot worse. What s.w do you have installed?

Same as you. I can't upload photos cause im new. But i have same sw installed. It's pissing me off really hard. I paid $5 for an app disabler and it's doing the work, apps that drained my battery are now indeed disabled, but the battery draining still goes on. It freaks me out. This does not look like a bug for me, looks like they are intentionally trying to spy me or smth, because draining battery apps are using mics and location. Also HY BIXBY. It literally never helped me, only annoyed me. What bug makes an disabled app, uninstalled, denied app, exiled app how bixby is on my phone can still drain my battery? It looks for me like a punishment for not allowing them to collect my info and this is not cool or ethic. Im not even sure if is legal.
Ya. I keep finding my location services turning on without my consent. It that happening to as well. I might just root my phone at this point to have more control over my phone.
Mine is also draining. Its the fault of september update
Before my android usage was max 2% per cycle and now it reaches upto 18% per cycle. I have noticed some lags and perfomance issues also. I feel like its the problem with September update
Also battery drains at night withot using.
May be the october update fixes the problem. Just hope so
Well I hope you all realize that the number you see displayed for the voice wake up is actually the battery drain for the entire Android system. If you click on the battery it will say Android system. So it is not voice wake up (although can include) but all of your system apps together.

I factory reseted and uninstalled all bixby related things from my phone trough ADB and now my batterylife is great again. Before that, something really strange happend. I disabled swipe left for bixby home ever since i got my note 8. And it keept enabling by itself. First time i tought i enabled it by mistake, but happend to many times to be a mistake.
Here is a tutorial for manually uninstalling all bixby related processes via ADB.

I've been getting stupid amounts of drain as well for months now. I've done full wipes, flashed other ROMs and Kernels, but still no luck.
SystemPanel shows the majority of drain as unaccounted for, so I'm having a touch time trying to work out what is actually causing it.

Absolutely brilliant, this made my day... I learnt toady that Bixby was consuming around 20% of my battery each day, even though I had, pretty much, all related functionality disabled.
After reading so many people saying that Bixby doesn't have a negative impact on the battery life I started wondering if perhaps having it fully enabled would solve the issue. That doesn't worry me anymore as I've just unistalled that piece of junk :victory::victory:
Thanks for sharing!
I uninstalled too all Bixby enviroment through ADB, plus a lot of other no longer required system apps but didn't notice relevant changes about the battery life.
Then, I did an hard reset of the phone... this of course restored all Bixby environment and... surprire, surprise, battery life is almost the same.
Honestly, I no longer think that Bixby environment is the main culprit of the so-so battery life of the SM-N950, but I'm also happy to read that someone got advantages by uninstalling it.
In my humble opinion it's always the same old story: Modems are the culprits, being very ofter unfit to the networks, hence asking for an excessive power consumption.
