My new SGS just got delivered today, bought it brand new from ebay, it is unlocked but from orange so there are a few orange bloatware apps like maps etc, not happy with these and want them gone but after trying kies it says my firmware cannot be updated (maybe due to being branded)?
Anyway just wondering which of the unofficial firmwares to flash from the samsung-firmwares website, I understand they come with certain files that may put phone into russian or make it so market does not work properly, some advice on this matter would be appreciated, I'm in UK if that helps. Cheers lads.
Oh and my current versions are
PDA I9000XXJF3
PHONE I9000XXJF3
CSC I9000RAJE5
Hi Davey,
I've just done mine for the first time tonight. I used firmware JG1, but used the CSC file suggested on the main thread firmware thread (cant do a link, forum wont let me).
A couple of notes - I originally tried using a front USB port on my machine and it stuck on file analysis. Worked better when I plugged it in round the back. Secondly, mine showed up on COM5 not 7 as in the guides but it seemed to make no difference.
Good luck!
Cheers pal, jsut wondering have you had any issues with the firmware you used? Russian language? Paid apps not showing up in market? Thanks.
No russian as long as you use the separate CSC firmware (CSC_I9000OXXJF9), and no other issues other than swype crashing the first time I tried to use (restarted the phone, problem solved).
Some apps arent showing up though in market, and I think a root is needed to fix it unfortunately. Not a big deal though - if you're willing to attempt the firmware, than I doubt rooting is a particularly big deal.
I'm in a similar position. T-Mobile UK, galaxy to arrive tomorrow.
I've seen several people complaining about lag on the phone until a firmware upgrade. Could someone point me to a post/website that gives a list of the latest firmwares and a step-by-step guide to installing them on the phone.
Thanks
same here, i have found a few rooting + firmware article from other websites / blogs.
however I only trust the guides from XDAdevelopers

http://www.samsung-firmwares.com (register, login and select "i9000" from the list, the firmware files and guides are on the same page, as are the links to dowload the required tools).
I am on UK T-Mobile and have followed these videos in the order listed and have had no problems doing so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzFE8-jWku0
The above is to update the firmware, the only thing I did that was not on the video was to use a different CSC file (Not the Russian one, I used CSC_I9000OXXJF9), doing it this way, I had no problems with using Swype as some have reported.
I then applied Paul's Custom ROM R2 from Modaco (Great Job) - the update roots the phone so you do not have to. It is all worth it as now my GPS, Wifi and speed all work wonderfully. the video of how to update the Custom Rom is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uakGtQKmHNM
Remember to restart the phone after updating the firmware and also after updating the Custom ROM. Also make sure that you have installed the latest version of Samsung's KIES software which contains the drivers needed for the SGS. Also if you carry out this part, make sure you copy the update.zip file to the internal memory card for update to work as it fails to read from the external one.
I did all this on a Notebook running Vista 32bit without any problems.
Hi,
I've already been through the thread
[30.03.2012][CF-Root 4.4] J-P/S/Q-*,JV-1KBHIOPQRSTAUV,JVU,JW4 - su+bb+2e/CWM-rfs+ext4
which has links to all the ROM files to be used with CWM in recovery mode (and explanations about their names).
I don't have a standard production phone. Mine has a build name of: FROYO.eng.eunju81.hong.201000831.205407 therefore I can't go by the names of the ROM files which are based on build names like FROYO.xxJP (P obviously referring to "Production"). Does the date of that build have any significance to you experts (Aug 31, 2010)? Does this narrow down what ROM file I can download?
Also, my phone is a pretty standard 512MB, ARM processor phone for that era (I'm guessing, since it was given to a journalist for review who gave it to me when she was done reviewing it). Will I have to use ODIN to flash it? I WAS able to root it (the Chinese made Eroot succeeded where all else failed) and install ROM Manager AND CWM but I then downloaded all three ROM types for my phone (the phone part isn't active I only use the WIFI so I tried the Galaxy Tab ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon but they all gave errors when I tried installing them). I read that it's imperative to have the right file, but with my funky build number, that doesn't seem possible. Am I going to be able to do with this without "doorstopping" my phone? (sorry. I like "doorstop" better than "brick" .
Wrong forum, this is S2/I9100 Q&A, not Tab Q&A which is here (we have device specific fora).
I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.
One other thing;
I forgot to mention: Kies updated the firmware to the latest version if that helps you "axe spurts" figure this puzzle out. Thanks in advance!!! :fingers-crossed:

Hello community,
I have actually came across a difficult situation with my Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 (international variant).
In order to give you a high level view of what happened im going to write a few topics of what I have flashed to the phone since I bought it (new) back in March 2012:
1. I'm from Portugal and I bought the phone on an online retailer because I wanted the grey version. So far so good I ordered it on the UK.
2. The phone I received, although being unlocked and sealed/new, had software branding from MDA germany.
3. At the time we were on Android 4.1.2. I went to sammobile and installed the TPH version (Portugal) of 4.1.2 in order to have the full stock experience. Eventually I rooted the device.
4. Later on came the 4.3. At the time I was not aware of the bootloader complications and ended installing the UK or German version (clean) that was on Sammobile. Installation went fine and I immediately rooted the device without issues and disabled Knox in the Rom.
5. Yesterday I had this great idea of flashing 4.4 (still unaware of bootloader issues) and downloaded the spankin new 4.4.4. from the nordic countries from sammobile. This is where it gets interesting.
6. I have tried a zillion combinations and either I get stuck on the samsung logo or I get the error of binary 3 and device 2 (or the other way around). All the flashes via ODIN have been done using the AP/PDA option.
What can I do to unbrick it? I don't remember which ROM I flashed for 4.3 and I have tried to flash the german version of 4.4 (set 2014) and the nordic countries one. Also tried flashing 4.1.2 via CWM recovery directly from SD card but still no go and stuck at bootloop. Have also tried software repair using Kies (manually inserting serial number under the battery) and still no go for my dismay...
Is it recoverable? Is there a way to upgrade it to 4.4? If it helps so far I have been able to fash stuff via ODIN and still have download mode. I dont care about data as I did make a backup before setting off on this "adventure"
Thanks in advance.
Eventually solved using Philz recovery. Turns out that during the flash process for some reason the /data partition could not be formatted.
Now recovered and running the clean 4.4.4. of XDA
Hello, i bought my phone ages ago. No problems what so ever(exept gone through 2 new batteries already, but i assume its my idiocy).
Gone through rooting, CM12 (5.0.0 (LP) i believe?) and then installed original fresh ROM. Now factory settings and not rooted for last 6 months or so.
At Christmas i bought myself a flip cover with fancy little useless window (known as S-View).
Installed it and everything looked good until few hours later, phone started popping back cover warnings, everytime i unlock the phone.
Then got it worse, phone started to woke up itself and pop up the warning, then lock itself again and over and over again.
Removing the cover worked, then i installed it and it worked again. Then i changed SD and it started that sh*t again!
So i bought new SD card hoping it will solve situation (ADATA 64GB, UHS1, Class10) after reading stuff about frying SD cards and error codes that trigger the warning.
Here i am, phone keeps doing that over and over again. Thought i would find help in here, or somewhere else, but no good.
Can someone help me?
Phone is used, last owner "didnt fully ulitized its functions" so he sold it to me. Phone runs on 4.4.2 (KK) which is kinda sad for me, because i keep waiting for official update (im stupid).
Could some custom kernel solve this? I like TouchWiz (bash me again) and i found having native functions (like sensors, ir controller, screensharing and other comfy fat stuff built in) rather usefull than bloatware, so thats why i left CM.
Any help appreciated. And excuse my english.
Same problem, on 4.4.2 without root and waiting for official update. I have tried every advice from the internet to no avail.
I have learned to live with it and hope that with a firmware update it will go away.
So, I don't know why you have this problem (I never bought a flip cover for my phone,I hate it), but you are for the third time (I think) a stupid (no offense) because now there's the CM13 with a bit more feature supported than CM12. However you can try to flash Touchwiz 5.1.1 and see what happen, if you didn't yet. It doesn't matter if the update it isn't released yet for your country, just flash an update for the G800F.
If you are root you can use the link2sd app and freeze a system app called PopupuiReceiver and the back cover warning will dissapear.
I hope this helps you. Sorry for my English.

Ehy man, Youmobile didn't say nothing yet but they are 100% official and you will not lose your data if you download Cyprus 5.1.1 and flash it via Odin. You can find all 5.1.1 release on Sammobile and if you download a Vodafone branded rom you need a PIT file. Try it.

I got T-mobile(sim) but completelly operator-free rom and i would like to make it, like it is.
In another words, can you tell me if the other xxxxBOLx versions will work instead of my xxxxAOlx version?
I'll go for operator free, as i mentioned before, so the "PDA" version as sammobile says is the only one thing that bugs me about flashing my phone.

The only thing that i can say to you is that i flashed the Italy Vodafone rom (with PIT file) and it works well. (I'm from Italy so you can understand). However every G800F rom can be flashed (with PIT file if it's a branded rom like Vodafone). This rom has G800FXXU1BOL4 version and it works with every G800F. So, I recommend you the Cyprus one because is no-branded and it doesn't need the PIT (also the Germany no-branded one but is less updated). However you can install the Vodafone one but you need the PIT file. (and I can give it to you)

Thats what i wanted to hear. Thanks :good:
So today i tried to flash. Successfully. System looks like it has more stability built in, visually, its almost like KK. The popup seems to be gone. Only one thing that surprised me "Google Play Service Error" which tends to stay in loop. Uninstaled and reinstalled, hopefully it will work. Sadly Cyprus is a Vodafone. So gonna find another, less annoying rom - Germany, atleast until my country gets official release.
For those who wanna flash, use AP tab in Odin (if you ever flashed before, the tab was called "PDA" now its AP - "Android Phone") and let the phone deal with itself, i panicked and reflashed twice, just because i was nervous.
Happy Easter.
Another edit: The German ROM has everyday bloatware in, however, it can be uninstalled without much pain, by simply dragging it up -> Uninstall. So far, so good. Cheers.

Nice, however Vodafone's ROMs is more updated than other ROMs.
Hello all.
My S20FE (SM-G780F) has not updated from OneUi 3 and Android 11. It always says that I'm using the latest software. I've tried factory resetting the phone and using Smart Switch to no avail.
I'm in the UK. Never lived anywhere else. I reside here permanently. It's where I bought my phone brand new.
I checked the service provider software version and it says ZT0/ZTO,ZTO/EUX . However, when I use the dialler method to check the same information it says the CSC is BTL3.
I researched and ZTO seems to refer to Brazil. I've never been to Brazil or anywhere in that vicinity so I don't know why it says ZTO as the service provider information.
Could this be why I'm having issues updating? If the phone thinks it's Brazilian then it would stop me updating if I'm in the UK? Is that correct?
Samsung suggested I send it to them to flash the drive but they require a proof of purchase and as I bought the phone over 2 years ago I can't for the life of me find the original order email.
Just for clarification the phone has never been rooted or modded and all software etc is "official." I've looked into flashing the software with Odin. Would I need ro download the update file for the CSC my phone says it is or for the CSC it should be? Do I only download the latest update or would I have to stack them and download all the previous ones my phone missed too?
Please help before I tear my hair out.
flashing the phone yourself with Odin is very easy, there are dozens of YouTube vids to get an idea from. actually downloading the firmware is more difficult.
whoever sold you the phone is who you should be angry at, it obviously wasn't intended for use here. let me know if you want help flashing!
Same thing happened to my Mom's phone (a Galaxy A series device).
Use this guide and manually flash the latest firmware.
