Hey all, I'm picking up a used note 3 today and I'm sure the person has done on the available AT&T updates. I'm not sure what the latest update version should be, but if he in fact had updated it am I screwed on getting root and putting safestrap on it? I had the note 3 before, but switched to the S5 and I can't take it no more....i need my note 3 again lol.
Thanks in advance and I'm soooo glad to be back on the Note 3 train.
The latest update for the Note 3 is NC2. Go to towelroot.com, download the apk, click on "make it ra1n", wait for you phone to reboot, and you'll be rooted.
Make sure you install busybox before installing Safestrap v3.75 or else it won't work.

Worked like a charm! Thanks a ton for the awesome instructions. I hit your thanks button.

I'm in the process of trying to upgrade my Dynamic Kat 4.3 ROM to the most recent 4.4 version, and saw that I needed to update my Safestrap from 3.71 to 3.75. I downloaded the Safestrap 3.75 apk (as well as made sure I had the most recent Busybox version already installed), and installed it. Everything appeared to install fine with no issues. I rebooted to try to go into Safestrap, but did not get the splash screen with an option to boot in the Safestrap recovery. I noticed on the 3.75 post that not seeing a splash screen is known issue and the suggestion was just to try re-installing the apk. I have since tried uninstalling/reinstalling the 3.75 apk probably about 6-8 times, then I tried uninstalling 3.75 and back-leveling to 3.71... still no splash screen. Then I tried uninstalling and re-installing 3.75.... again, no splash screen. At this point I've uninstalled/reinstalled over 10 times now, and am at a loss as to where to go next. I've spent about an hour looking around on google and in the forum here for people with the same issue but haven't had any real luck. This seems like such a trivial problem that should be able to fixed that I really don't want to have to revert back to Stock through ODIN mode and re-root, re-flash ROM, etc. if at all possible. Is there anything else that can be done to resolve this?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me as if you were on JB and tried to use a KK rom through Safestrap. You can't do that because SS doesn't flash the kernel. You can't run a TouchWiz based KitKat rom on a JellyBean kernel. Your only option is to either Odin back to stock JB and use the setup you had been running, or Odin to stock 4.4.2 KitKat after which you can root, install SS 3.75. Only then will you be able to run the latest DynamiKat rom. All this is assuming you're using an AT&T note 3.

I misread your post thinking you were no longer able to boot at all. If you want to stay on JB, just reinstall SS 3.71. Make sure you're actually installing the recovery and not just the apk. But if you want the latest DynamiKat Kitkat version, you're going to have to upgrade your phone to 4.4.2 first.

Thanks for the reply!!
OK, so maybe I misunderstood what it would take to upgrade to KK... The ROM I'm running now is JB and I had thought that I could just download the APK for Safestrap 3.75, and uninstall the 3.71 version I already had, install 3.75, then go into the 3.75 SafeStrap and install my new KK rom.... it sounds like it isn't that simple.
My phone is booting and working just fine right now on the older Dynamic Kat JB rom I've been running, it just doesn't display the splash screen for Safestrap now when I reboot. You mentioned I need to upgrade my phone to 4.4.2 first in order to use SS 3.75 and install a KK rom, and I thought that just installing the 3.75 Safestrap apk did that. What is the process to upgrade the recovery to 4.4.2 if I can't just install the SS 3.75 APK?
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure SS 3.75 only works if you're on 4.4.2. I think you're misunderstanding though. SS doesn't upgrade your phone. You have to upgrade your phone's firmware yourself to 4.4.2. Then you can use SS 3.75 which is COMPATIBLE with 4.4.2.

What are you running right now Kitkat, Lollipop? If you are on N900AUCUCNC2, you can use Towel root https://towelroot.com/ or Kingo root http://www.kingoapp.com/ The only way to install custom rom is to have Safestrap install as the bootloader is locked.

I'm not the OP, but I have the same question: I have a stock Note 3 with Lollipop (N900AUCUEOC1). I'd love to root it. Is there a step-by-step guide, or better yet a tap-and-go app to achieve root?

You can't root OC1, but you can use Odin to downgrade to NC2 and root it. Odin v.3.10.6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613. Once you Odin back you can use Towel root or Kingo root (links are posted above your post). Then install Supersu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en and run it, install Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en open and install it, then Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216. (You should make a backup once Safestrap is installed before you flash any Roms). Once you're done you can pick a Rom for your Note 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development Now you ever use Odin? http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ (The site only shows flashing the All-In-One file so you know). Use all 4 Odin files, N900AUCUCNC2 ODIN Files, BL https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891602 AP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891890 CP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891603 CSC https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891604
Brilliant! I'm rooted on Lollipop, and loving my Note 3 all over again. Thanks for the easy-to-follow instructions, that made it a breeze!
lil differant way
To shorten the process, I downloaded Chainfires app called FlashFire, Then Downloaded full OC1 odin tar and Full N2 Odin tar. I flashed Note 3 back to N2 with pc odin, I then transferred OC1 to my sd card installed Flashfire and used flash Fire to do a complete flash to OC1 while choosing to inject everroot. Saved tons of time and in my mind a lot cleaner. I also have ROM PRO TOOL BOX and Chainfires CF-Bench after installing all the apps I wanted and setting up my personal settings on the phone all together, I installed BusyBox Pro and did a smart install, then rebooted and performed a benchmark. Then opened Rom Pro Tool box and went to cpu and then the benchmark it recognized the benchmark from chainfires cf-bench app so I choose it and also clicked apply at boot. Rebooted and this Note is fast as light and reliable. FlashFire will make back ups for you if your worried about recovery and always a good Idea to have Helium and or Titanium to make a nandriod and a completed setup back up to store on your pc and cloud just in case. :fingers-crossed:
Does anyone know if Rooting directly from OC1 without a wipe is being worked on? :fingers-crossed: or should I just stop whining and just do one of the above options? :victory:

What was you running before, Lollipop? If you was, you need to do all four files not the All-In-One to change your boot loader back to NC2.
so much simpler
Thanks for making this simpler! If all goes well then you will be donated to good sir! now if you could just get someone on my at&t s5 active!

I have a s5active and just love the hell out of it. I'm still kinda green with the rooting but have done several successful roots, but development is way out of my wheelhouse. Unfortunately I haven't found a developer that had been working on the active. I'm still looking though. Thanks for doing the outstanding organization you did for the note 3. I'm going to be doing it as soon as the laptop comes back from the shop. My wife will like fire cat I think. I just found the thread I needed for my active lol only one rim but better than nothing.
Hey all, I've been away since the Skyrocket days. For ODIN, what state does the phone need to be in. I have USB debugging Enabled, but the ODIN says Failed. I downloaded all 4 files. Nevermind, had to put the phone in download mode.
i used KingoRoot to "root" it said it was sucessful, but when i try SuperSU it said "SuperSu Binary needs to be updated. Continue"? when i click continue, i click on normal and it says "Installing, please wait" then it returns failed.. SuperSu binary is not updating what is the fix for this?

I would install Root Checker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en to see if your root is properly installed. You might have to use KingoRoot again. I usually stick with Towelroot.
i tried superuser and that said it might not have installed properly. I tried flashing the ODIN files again and now it says failed. I think i've bricked my phone and now im really frustrated

Hey Guys, I was wondering if its possible to flash AROMA ROMs with flashfire. I've used flashfire once, I think, but it just came into my mind maybe we could use AROMA installers. Ill see if I'm able to flash an international N3 ROM with AROMA from flashfire in a little bit as I am busy atm.
I can confirm this working. I installed darklord s6 (international) using flashfire

Downgraded to NC2 kitkat, rooted and installed flashfire. But when i attempt install darklord v3.0 using with flashfire, it's failed. Shows me a blackscreen after i see flashfire loading.
Can you tell me which steps did you follow?
Thanks for help.

What was your reason to downgrade? I didn't downgrade or anything, took a nandriod backup, booted into os, went into flashfire, selected OTA/ZIP option, don't edit any options or anything, selected wipe and installed, make sure you have screen timeout set to 10 minutes, give it some time it'll reboot and you'll be on the new rom. I flashed back stock because Darklord was overheating my phone like crazy.
Also, make sure to get Safestrap apk after you install the new rom, I guess it removes Safestrap from the system.
I think you can. @carl1961 would know I want to say he said you could

Yeah I've gotten it to work smoothly. I still prefer stock ATT rom due to stability and battery life. The international roms aren't really meant for our N900A variant, most of them have overheating, battery, and stability issues on the N900A side.

I've gotten a few ROMs to work with FlashFire; just be careful with installers that don't let you keep the stock kernel/boot.img.
I almost bricked my Note 3 because an S6 port forced a different kernel/boot.img while I wasn't paying attention.

@carls1976 OC2 for stability/battery life; @TheDriller AllianceROM for customization are the ways to go atm.

Hi I am new to the Note 3 forum and have a Att Note 3 on NC2 and want to find out the most recent or easiest way to get root? I had a Lg G3 rooted running custom roms but it got destroyed at work so I had to get something quick that is how I ended up with a Note 3. Anyway I am having a hard time figuring out what is the correct way to get root and flash custom roms. Also any recommendations for apps, themes, roms, etc! There is a ton of info but hard to find out the exact method to root and start flashing but I want to make sure it's done right. Thanks!

Hey thanks!
That is Towelroot correct? I am just about to DL and run it but just wanted to be sure that I don't miss any steps. So I just DL and run apk right? Thanks again for the file and anyone who wants to recommend a good ROM for a Note 3 that would be great also!
No root after Towelroot on NC2 and I tried 3 times!
I used Towelroot just as I was supposed to but cant get root or install Busybox. I tried the file that I was given it didnt work and then I seen that there is a new version of Towelroot v3 but it didnt work either. I even tried to disable Knox with SU from play store after Towelroot but it can't not disable Knox. Then I used package disabler to disable Knox and it worked to disable Knox but still can't get root with Towelroot it didn't error or anything it said you should have root now but nope! What the heck am I doing wrong? I am not happy about the future of my Note 3 and I will try something else if someone could help me. My phone is weird cause it does not have a update option at all in about phone settings! Oh boy what have I bought? Seems hard to get help anymore but I guess people are busy these days. Thanks again for any help!
I believe the bootloader is locked which means you can only install tw-based custom ROMs.

I found out its a phone from a rental center that had been paid for but they do some kind of a custom edit to settings. So I will probably be able to get it rooted thru my pc just not around it right now. I am not real happy about the fact it isn't completely stock cause like I said there is no option to update in the settings at all. Anyway I will have to wait until I get back home or find another route to root or at least update to lollipop! Thanks and if you are able to help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated!
Hi all.
So it's been a while that I've rooted a phone (Note 4 years ago).
Getting a refurbished Note 8 very soon (UK).
I just want to root it and install only what's needed, without applying custom roms etc.
Just need it rooted for Titanium Backup, modded Google Play. Stuff like that.
Hope someone can help me in how I should go about it.
Also should I update the phone to 9.0 as soon as I boot it up?
Thanks.
Edit: Got the phone now. It took me to the home screen when first booted up. Looks like already updated to version 9. Does rooting still trigger KNOX?

Yes rooting will trip Knox.
To flash TWRP just follow the steps in this thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-official-3-3-1-x-twrp-for-galaxy-note8-exynos.3832962/ (just use the latest TWRP which is 3.5 I believe)
If you're just going to root stock filmware you will need to flash RMM/KG bypass or you will get locked out of your phone (only official filmware can be flashed error, then you will have to flash stock to fix it) - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ll-twrp-on-exynos-samsung-after-2018.3747535/
If you are going to flash a custom rom they have the RMM state prepatched so this step would not be necessary. To flash a custom rom just follow the steps laid out in the OP of the rom you want to use.
