I am using xperia zr and after capturing some images underwater I saw that there is water inside my camera lens.Firstly I thought it was only moisture but after the moisture removed I can see there is still water droplets on my camera interface. I am not able to use my camera anymore. What should I Do?? Please help...
search for disassembly videos on youtube. if you find any video and you are confident that you can do it then open the phone n let it dry. use hair dryer from a distance of 1 feet. reassemble n see if camera is working. otherwise go to any local mobile repairer to do the same.
ZR is said to be waterproof but no warranty cover for water damages :silly:

Hey guys, I would like to buy Xperia Z because of the water proof feature. And I read lots of articles about people who has water damaged Xperia Z despite flaps closed. I want Xperia Z because I want to take photos and record videos underwater (just pool not salty water).
Is this possible to get water damaged despite all the flaps closed? Because It is I will head to HTC One.

Some things to consider:
1. The phone is water resistant, not waterproof.
2. Even a pool defeats the phone certification of water resistance. Below 1 meter of depth, water could force its way in into the flaps, even if flaps are properly sealed.
3. Flaps wear out, so getting a dock to charge and bluetooth headset to avoid opening and closing flaps is advisable.
4. Defects in manufacturing could be a cause of water entering the device.

1- Yeah, I know that. Stili t has IP5/7, 1 meter depth and 30 min. duration.
2- I will use it at 30-50 cm's.
3- Yes, I will buy dock and bluetooth headset.
4- If It has manufacturing problem Sony wouldn't change it?

I think most people take photos underwater just below the surface of the water...i don't think anyone would go all the way down to take photo.

If it's manufacturing fault and water went in, Sony will fix it or replace the phone.

Could be water condensing on the inside of the lens. Can you see any water drops in there? If so, they should dry out with time

If you posted some example pictures it would help. No one can give you advice without seeing your issues first hand.

It's probably because you were in colder water that the air.
Lenses now have "fog" inside...
It's the question will it ever dry.
That shouldn't happen but it obviously did.
It wasn't sea? Right?
Seawater, of course, will damage whole device.

After that you should washed the phone under sink. Now who knows? If the lens are clean put the phone into the rise for all night.
Uff...that's not good.
Seawater could really destroy lenses.
Could you see some micro scratches on it?
I'm not sure it's suitable for salt water, not because of the water but because of salt in it...

When I had my Z I did the same thing, and had the same problem you currently have with your Z1.
I put the water on full blast in my sink, as close to "luke arm" as possible, in my attempt to get it to a "room temperature" level. I opened the Camera app and set it to auto-focus, so essentially the lense was moving up and down unable to focus, and turned screen timeout to 10 minutes. I then put the lens of the camera under the stream and left it there for ~3 minutes. Literally left the device in the sink with the plug open
Came back, dried it off, turned the device off, and left it on top of my fireplace covered in a moisture absorbing cloth (from the gym) overnight.
NOTE: My fireplace is an electric fireplace, and doesn't output heat very efficiently. The top of my fireplace is a mantle where I (during xmas) keep chocolates and similar items, which DON'T melt, so that gives you a level of temperature. I can't take any responsibility if you melt your phone or cook the screen or something.
The phone works fine now, however I've since sold it for my Z1.
EDIT: If there's scratches on the lens, go grab some regular, plain white peppermint toothpaste. None of this fancy "tartar control" or "Whitening" crap, just dollar store peppermint flavoured regular toothpaste. Take a small amount on a fiber free swab (note: different from Q-Tips), and rub slightly on the lens. Don't press into it, but do it firmly. The fiber free swab shouldn't be breaking, so use that amount of pressure. Rub for ~1 minute, and then rinse off with water and a microfiber cloth.
Not good man, Z1 is waterproof but NOT against sea water, this can oxidate the entire phone, you know when you leave the ocean and you stay with some salt particle on your body? Your phone should be with the same salt particle on the lens, try to check...
Hi,
I didn't test ZR Earlier. In my first test(under running Tap water) which was for just half of min. After this when i open back panel i see there are 3 drop of water at top (which of course came from Camera) . As i love this phone and don't want to loose it for water test i didn't test further.
If this is normal? any one done water test? also water damage is under warranty?

water damage is not under warranty,
it is normal that water goes into camera side or speakers , but it shouldn't or behind the flaps (usb cover and audio jack cover), also it's very important that water shouldn't go into battery section, where there's protectors, other was going water behind the back door is normal but in battery section is not.
there's an white paper indicator that indicate whether water goes into battery section or not, it is in the bottom of your battery when you pull battery you can see it behind the bottom of the battery! (not sure how to describe it) if it turn red it means that your device got some water inside, which will void your warranty too, if it is white then everything will be ok and you still have your warranty, there's an exact of these papers in behind of the audio jack and usb section which you can't see it unless you open it
Thanks..it is very usefull info..i wonder from where u find it.
I can see white paper benlow battery ...

You could've read the mini manual before doing that. It is stated there that after using the device underwater, do not open the back cover cause the water outside the sealed section might get in the battery section which could destroy your phone. You must let the water inside dry for about 3-4 hours I think
From My Dragon Breathing Fire Underwater - C5503/XDA-App
The same thing happened to my beloved phone, We went night swimming by the pool and there i tested my phone's underwater abilities it worked good under water i tested it for about 2 minutes afterwards i wrapped it in a cloth to dry it out. Removing the backplate did not cross my mind until I woke up in the morning, So i turned it off then removed the backplate I was shocked as everything aside from what's inside the rubber was wet. reading comments from good people in this thread made me feel at ease i also checked the mini manual and it says that exact thing that they talked about in here. Many thanks to you guys, so i should consider those areas outside the rubber as "safe wet". Now it's kind of dicey to use this phone underwater.
I submerged the top half of my phone to shoot some video underwater, after having previously carefully sealed the flaps with medical tape. This was the first time I did this and and only for 3 minutes at most.
Now there is moisture around the camera lens and led flash. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

You do not have a problem
Once you've opened the back cover
Not closed it properly Flash leaking causing a blurry picture
Look Once the cover is closed properly especially at the top where the lens is located
* Picture will be sharp
A similar thing happened to my Z1 after a full submerge. Little water droplets appeared in the lens. Eventually the camera stopped working, and so did the phone screen. I sent the phone into Sony xperia help team and they replaced the main board of the phone and told me that the case had a manufacturer defect in it which allowed water inside even when flaps were all closed. Try putting the phone in rice for a few hours, or applying gentle heat to the lens to remove the trapped water. Hope all goes well.
Again, similar thing, flaps closed but condensation on the lens, might of been from going from a warmish pool to cooler air and then the bathroom with steam, I left the charging and memory card flap open and left it upright(charging port upwards) and it cleared up after half our or so and was fine.
I've been conducting usual Xperia waterproof test by checking the pressure test behaviour. On previous Xperias I've had the pressure grow and then steadily dropped. On XZ3 it is rising but then rapidly drops. Are they using bigger pressure membrane or something or is my phone not waterproof due to some fault of gasket? Can anyone test in on their XZ3? *#*#7378423#*#* -> tests -> pressure sensor and then gently squeeze your phone and hold.
I think that should be normal. If the flap is removed, the pressure should just stay the same regardless if you press or not. I tried the pressure test on my Xperia XZ Premium, same thing.
Hi there, i.ve made a post on sony talk regarding waterproofness .
I think that it will be cool if i have more opinions on this.
Seems i cannot add an url ?
Hello,
As i previously owned a Z and a Z2 which i often used them.for underwater snapshots, i was/am curious about testing xz3 underwater capabilities. I startrd mild splashing it. Then, the next Day put it under the water tap. The following day i dunked him.slowly and put him under the water tap on a higher water flow.
Then i got it out, wiped all the water and got out the sd slot for checking. Seems that it had water droplets on the first step of the rubber cover.
Now, i do not know how to explain it better. At z2, the presence of water drops on the SIDE of the rubber, was normal, as the slots of the phone were having another step, which the bottom.of the rubber protected. But looking inside the xz3 i do not see a step into the inside of the phone, on.which the ruber should be pressed against, for water protection. Anyone knows, or has seen a dissassembled xz3?
