My husband has a Sony Xperia TL with stock ROM (4.1.2). About once a month or, his phone simply stops receiving messages (SMS and MMS) for several days at a time. After four or five days, they suddenly all appear in a wave, then the phone goes back to normal behavior for 3-4 weeks.
We have tried the following:
* Rebooting the phone. No effect.
* Removing and replacing SIM card. No effect.
* Resetting the phone to original settings. No effect.
* Trying another messaging app (including Go SMS Pro, SoftCoil Messaging, Hangouts). They seem to work about as well as the stock messaging app, but they don't "reboot" the process of receiving the messages.
* Changing APN settings
I've been trying to talk him into trying a different ROM, but he is really worried about the phone not working at all.
Is this a common problem with this phone? Is there anything else we can try?
TIA.

Hiya All,
I have a Samsung I9000. Sometimes, when I go into messaging, or call log or contacts, after being in there for about a second it will return me to home screen.
It only happens sometimes, and I can get around it by quicky scrolling, and doing a long press. But its very annoying!
I tried replacing phone.apk with CWM and it seemed to help but the problem came back.
I am on:
FW: 2.3.4
I9000XXJVQ
I have a bunch of apps installed. I hope its nothing to do with them but not sure what to do for further diagnosis.
The other problem I have is despite having the correct APN for Vodafone NZ, I cant send MMS. They just sit there saying "sending".
Please help.
Thanks
-Al
I have also had similar crashing issues recently (on stock JVQ with KC1/KG3 modem, rooted)
I had thought it may have been a launcher issue, but no, I have had the issue occur with different launchers. Also, lately I have had dropped calls....regardless of signal strength or whether I dial out or pick up a call. Both are getting to be annoying.
edit: also forgot to add that I have crashed to home screen after entering the dialer and pressing a few numbers (not actually completing the entire phone number; around 4 digits usually).
Hello guys
i just got a LG L90 a few days ago from T-Mobile
But I suspect there is some SMS delay problems with it
somehow i don't get sms for maybe hours,
and suddenly sms just come popping all up at around the same time
I tried with a few friends. some got it normal but one got my sms 2-3 hours late!
However there are times it work just fine with everyone though
Wondering if any has met the same problem and if there is. Have you figured out a solution for this?
I have contacted T-mobile just now and hopefully the assistants clearing cache method will work for me
No you are not the only one, I too have the same problems (although not as extreme).
As for a fix, luckily with KitKat we can choose a default messaging app and I recommend chompSMS or Textra, they seem to eliminate those pesky delay problems, but although it works for me, I can't guarantee it will work for you.

Have you tried a 3rd party SMS app?

Yeah, I've switch to Google hangout, still a delay :crying:
And also my device suddenly wouldn't charge earlier, i had to disconnect and reconnect 4-5 times before it charges
using Google chrome also keep killing background tasks, keyboard wouldn't show up, screen dimmer keeps getting killed
even the whole UI blank out sometimes and I'm forced to restart
I think I should try flashing a custom ROM? would it be something about the custom one? i don't have much apps installed, problems shouldn't be due to a lack of RAM...
Anyone can help?
There are a few Roms available, check out @Quarxs one about cm 11

Or it has something to do with your provider or the network?

Thanks I'll definitely look into the thread
Did you ever resolve your texts not going through? We have an L90 bought from tmobile prepaid but activated with ultra mobile. Sometimes go to send a text and it just says sending and doesn't go through. At this same time I tried to send a text to that phone and it wasn't received. Rebooted the phone and the messages started going through. Using stock messaging app. I haven't tried a different app. It's my daughters phone and she doesn't deal well with changing the apps around so I want to avoid it if possible.
My contacts app keeps crashing randomly. Anyone else facing this issue?
nope not facing that issue. did you use some sort of package disabler?
or installed other contacts or phone apps?
Same here. Can't make any calls via dialer cause Contacts app keeps crashing
Mine freezes as well. Randomly. At least one time a day (two-three max). Only rebooting the phone does help till next time. Tried to uninstall several programs I've been using with no luck. Samsung support suggested to restore to defaults. I'm using two sim cards simultaneously. I do like the phone, but crashing apps wasn't that I was truly looking for.
having the same issue. When receiving calls the icon flashes on the notifications bar but nothing on screen, no app takes over display. Speed dial, contacts and dialing caused all to crash but calls still go through apparently.
Hi everyone. After some water problems with my old Z3C, I replace it with a new one. The first thing I made was flashing it to the last firmware, root, etc. But I've noticed that sometimes, with autosync enable and data traffic enable, Whatsapp message arrives in a bunch and with delay (sometimes even after one hour from the real sending time), and Gmail often won't synchronize. I've replaced simcard with a slightly better result, but the thing still there. Some ideas before reflashing it? Thanks a lot
Any ideas?
Hi all,
my 4X, Miui 9.5.4.0 ROM, will not receive text messages most of the time. I can send texts OK but for the most part I cannot receive a text. I say for the most part because every now and then one seems to sneak through for some reason.
The only messaging app installed is the stock MIUI one that came with the phone. I did try a couple of other messaging apps with the same result. They have since been removed.
Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
TIA
Greg

I can't imagine it's something wrong with MIUI? it never actually happened to me, I'd contact your carrier first, perhaps they have blocked numbers from texting you
I recommend also checking in Settings; System apps > Call settings > Blocklist to see if the phone has blocked incoming test messages from any numbers

I've just placed the SIM into another phone and it works fine, so it's not the carrier. Checked blocklist and nothing there, plus I can miss and intermittently get texts from the same person.
It's got to be a MIUI thing!

Do you notice that you lose signal a lot? It could be a faulty antenna band too, it can be replaced under warranty

No I have a strong signal, so I do not think it's that.
Just did a test:
1. Rebooted phone
2. As soon as the lockscreen appears I sent a text from my wife phone.
3. It is received.
4. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from my wifes phone.
5. None received.
6. Reboot phone.
7. The 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
8. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from wife's phone.
9. None received.
10. Reboot phone
11. 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
It has to be MIUI.

That sounds annoying... If you can, go to developer options, and enable "Show all ANR" and use the phone (especially SMS) for a while to see if the culprit is a system process failing to stay alive, and try to clear all data for that process
You should be able to find the process by going to "Installed apps" and enabling "Show system apps"
Researching more on the problem has no real conclusion at all.. Some people solved the problem by just doing a factory reset, some more gets it fixed after calling their carrier, another gets it fixed (temporarily) by just turning airplane mode on and off

I have found the problem. "Turn on MIUI optimization" in Developer Options was turned OFF. Turning it ON fixed the receiving of texts. Tried several times turning it OFF and then ON and texts stopped everytime it was OFF. Don't know what this setting does but it needs to be ON to receive texts.

That's weird! I have it off all the time, what it does is
1. Closes apps in memory prematurely, this can be bad or good, unused ram is wasted ram anyway
2. Monitor background services and disabled part of it when you're not actually using it, this killed notifications for certain apps for me, at least back in MIUI 8
There's more, but it's really trivial like UI changes it does, happy it's solved though
